For the past 200 plus years we have experienced an economic downturn and uncertainty every 8-15 years. I am not a pessimist. I am a realist.
I don't focus on these periods. As a matter of fact, I have experienced 4 major recessions since I started my full-time speaking and training career in 1973. As we go through life we all experience the four seasons and spend more or less time in some of them.
A concept that I latched onto a number of years ago was - think winter all summer.
What do I mean?
It is tempting to relax during the long balmy summer days. Coasting through the summer months enjoying all of the activities, diversions and fun. I am not against this at all. I enjoy time on the water and hiking trail as much as the next person.
But beware! Summer ends and fall and winter are right around the corner.
Summer is a time to plant and yes weed. It is a time for vigilance. Fail to weed the garden and the crop will be small in the fall.
A poor crop in the fall means hard times in the long hard winters of life.
By the way, spring always follows winter. The hard times don't last, so learn to think spring and summer all winter.
Which season of life are you currently in???? ##
