Surrender is letting go of expectations of yourself, others and life in general. Most people find unconditional surrender difficult as they believe it is a sign of weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth. Surrender takes courage, strength, self-belief and faith—in yourself, life and God.
When you fail to surrender to a failure-type sales situation, your ego now kicks in and attempts to control processes, events and outcomes. This is not always possible or even a mature way to look at life and its situations.
Surrender is about trust, confidence and a release of control over your destiny. It is allowing life to unfold as it is meant to be. One of my favorite authors, Eric Butterworth, calls this the simple ability to accept what he refers to as 'God's Law of Adjustment.' I'm not referring here to fate or pre-destination, but that there is a master puzzle and we get to fill in the pieces however, wherever and whenever we want. The quality of the finished puzzle will depend on where we choose to place the various pieces.
No matter what your sales goal, you probably can't get there on your own. Even elite athletes involved in solitary sports need the support of their coach, their family and their sponsors. Who's on your team? Have you assembled one yet? If you have a clear, compelling goal that you believe in passionately, you are definitely able to attract believers and supporters to your team while holding true to yourself.
If you told a so-called friend that you would have a million dollars in five years, would they laugh at you, or would they say, "Great, how can I help?" It's important to share your dream passionately with the people around you.
