What’s Necessary for Creating More Wealth?

Capitalism is not perfect,” said Jordan Rodriguez in response to the video below, “but its the best system we got so far. The attackers of capitalism always fall into the “Nirvana Fallacy”. Just because something doesn’t work 100% of the time, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work at all. But some people wanna blow the whole roof over a leak on it.” The typos are in Rodriguez’s original comments to the video posted below.

Why are some countries rich and some countries poor? Is it access to natural resources? Is it tax policy? A motivated work force?” these are among the questions that Prager University poses on their YouTube page for the video that follows, adding “These are important, but not determinative.”

The answer,” said Prager U, “is deceptively simple – it’s what’s in our heads: knowledge.”

Thus, the surest way to promote economic growth is to cultivate an environment that encourages the spread of knowledge,” which is perhaps their overemphasis to make the point that accurate information matters.

Note the logic of this.  They are not saying that policies or resources aren’t important, they are.  But their use and refinement are aided by knowledge.

Such an environment [that promotes economic growth] requires freedom, which is why the freest societies are the most prosperous. In five minutes, economist George Gilder explains why,” here is that video.

It should be noted that while this is a fine video – which is why we’ve curated it for our MHProNews readers – if you dig deeper into Gilder’s thinking, you may find some popular but historically questionable thinking from him too, such as his notions about the events of 1517.  We all have our strengths and weaknesses, our areas of vision – and our unique blind spots.  That’s why people need others to help them see those blind spots.
