Unique Partnership to Build Modular Home in Ontario

Mohawk OntarioMHPronews.com has learned the Correctional Service of Canada announced a new partnership with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte in Ontario to build a modular home for residents of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The modular housing unit will be designed and constructed by offenders in the CORCAN employment program at Frontenac Institution in Kingston, Ontario, with materials provided by MBQ. The 1,200 square-foot, three-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow will be then transported to the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for a family in need. It is anticipated that the housing unit will be delivered by this spring. “The Correctional Service of Canada is continuing to take action to provide employment and employ-ability skills training to offenders, while at the same time providing affordable housing to residents of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in the Bay of Quinte,” says CSC Commissioner Don Head. “Creating partnerships with communities such as the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte is critical in order to support local housing initiatives and enhance the programs for rehabilitation we offer to offenders.”
