Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

TMHA’s DJ Pendleton on “Retirement of a true MH advocate and ally…”

It comes as a surprise to many, because his seat was not considered to be at risk.

The Texas Manufactured Housing Association (TMHA) Executive Director DJ Pendleton texted MHProNews to say that Congressman Jeb Hensarling’s announced “Retirement of a true MH advocate and ally.”

When asked about possible successor to Hensarling, Pendleton said: “Just typical rumors of state house members and senators. But nothing official…yet. Formal announcements in interest are imminent,” he said to the Daily Business News.

House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling will not run for re-election in 2018, reports CNBC.

Hensarling said in a statement that he decided to time his retirement from Congress with the end of his term as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. The 60-year-old Republican from Texas also said he wanted to spend more time with his family,” per CNBC.

First elected to Congress in 2002, Representative Hensarling said, “I never intended to make it a lifetime commitment, and I have already stayed far longer than I had originally planned.”

He pointed to issues near and dear to the manufactured housing industry, including housing finance reform and deregulation, as still being on his agenda.

Hensarling has been a proponent of rolling back Dodd-Frank, the reform package designed to limit the high-risk practices that triggered the financial crisis,” per CNBC. “The House passed a bill in June that would gut many of the key elements of those banking reforms.”

He said he will be focused on tax reform as well.

Hensarling announcement follows Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, and TN Senator Bob Corker, among others.

But unlike Flake, Hensarling was not in danger of losing his seat,” stated CNBC. “In the 2016 election, the Texas Republican won his House seat handily, with about 81 percent of the vote in his district. That margin is far greater than the 50 percent of ballots cast that won Flake his Senate seat.”
