Threats Shut Down Modular Home Site

dublin_site_for_mods_at_ballymun__rte_dot_ie_creditFollowing the continuing saga of modular homes being built in Ballymun in Dublin, Ireland to house the growing homeless population, the Dublin City Council said, “the contractor’s security staff was threatened by persons unknown wearing balaclavas (ski masks). They were told to go back to the north or their machinery would be burned out. Due to health and safety concerns the contractors removed staff from the site. The contractor, Western Building System Ltd said threats were also made the next day.

Protesters who allege the site for the 22 modular homes is supposed to be for social (low-income) housing had created a work stoppage on the project for one week, and heavy rains interrupted the work another 3-4 days, according to rte.ie.

As MHProNews posted last on Dec. 10, 2015, the 22 modular units scheduled to be ready in Ballymun by Christmas will now be finished by mid January. The council said plans continue to move forward on 131 modular homes at other sites. ##
