Overall, MHCV tracked stocks went down -3.31%. Only a few had even a slight increase.  These included TAVFX 1.34% (Jan.16), AMG 1.23%, DW 1.16%, and KMP 0.38%.

The bad news today is that crude oil prices continued to drop. As a result, USA Today tells MHProNews that Baker Hughes (BHI) said Tuesday it plans to lay off about 7,000 employees, or about 11% of its workforce.  This comes in the wake of a nearly 60% drop in the price of crude.

On the other hand, there is some positive news.  MarketWatch tells MHProNews that long-term investors are getting a rare signal suggesting that now might be a great time to buy stocks, that is, if they are willing to risk a potential rough patch in the near term.

For just the fourth time in more than 50 years, the S&P 500’s dividend yield last week moved above the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note. If history is any guide, this means that 2015 could be a very good year for the stock market.
