Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Hans Olsen, Stifel on Economy, Markets. 18 to 24 months, POTUS’ Heritage Remarks, Videos 10YearTNoteReducingBalanceSheetofFedCNBCDailyBUsinessNewsMHProNews

The never Trump voices in the media, and those who are afraid to give the president and his policies credit for the record growth, business and consumer confidence, have a problem.

It’s the numbers.

The economy is moving in a healthy direction.  So says Stifel’s Hans Olsen, who gives his 18 to 24 month market projections and insights.

Here on the Daily Business News market report our take is nuanced.  Growth is a natural result of the right policies, and other conditions. If meaningful tax reform gets passed, the market recovery can be sustained, or may accelerate.  Without that, even voices in the Trump Administration admit the markets could turn if the anti-tax reform segments win the battle now underway.

The following from CNBC.

CNBCLogoDailyBusinessNewsMHproNewsPeople make bad decisions when they go to cash,” said Scott Bishop, head of financial planning at Houston-based STA Wealth Management. “Their guts are usually wrong.”

Investment flows show that investors typically get it wrong when they try to predict which direction the market will head, said Cory Clark, director at Dalbar, a Boston-based market research firm.

In 2016, investors guessed wrong about the market’s direction — such as by selling shares, in aggregate, right before a winning month — in seven months out of the year, according to Dalbar. Over the past 20 years through 2016, after accounting for poor timing of fund flows, the average equity investor has earned 4.79 percent annualized, or almost 3 percentage points fewer than the Standard & Poor’s 500 index each year, on average, according to Dalbar.

“A year ago there was a lot of uncertainty and fear, and concerns over a potential market top,” Clark said. “And we just saw the markets keep on keeping on.”

Investors who sell now risk missing a “melt-up,” such as if stocks quickly notch additional double-digit gains, said Thomas Yorke, managing director of Oceanic Capital Management in Red Bank, New Jersey.

If the market does top out soon, investors who sell run the risk of not getting back into stocks at the right time.

“Most investors do very poorly when selling in anticipation of a correction,” said Bishop. “It never feels ‘right’ to buy back in.”

One of Bishop’s clients went to cash in the summer of 2008 — successfully dodging the market collapse that followed Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy — but still hasn’t gotten back into the market, he said.

Investors generally experience their worst underperformance, compared with the market, during times of market turmoil for just that reason, Clark said. They pull their money out of stocks and fail to get back in as the market recovers.

Even missing out on a few days of market gains can have devastating effects on an investor’s long-term performance.”

President Donald J. Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tax Reform in 2017

 MajorityLeaderSenatorMitchMcConnelPOTUS-DonaldJTrumpLiveStreamTVNewsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

It’s amazing what some heat will do under the right – or wrong? – people.

It’s equally amazing that unnamed sources or empty talking heads are trying to paint the president as ready for 25th Amendment removal. The president routinely appears cool, confident, and in command – even when the situation he is speaking about may be fraught with political peril.

Here’s CNBC’s bullets below.

·        President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterate that they want a tax bill passed this year.

·        Tax-writing committees still have not drafted a concrete plan. The leaders also try to quash talk about a rocky relationship, saying they are united in their agenda.

·        Regarding this second video, below, of the ‘entire’ press conference you can skip to about the 10:30 time mark to catch the actual start of this conference.

The first video is considered by many Oval Office watchers as the key snippet.

The second video is of the ‘full’ press conference, and you can skip to about the 10:30 time mark to see where the conference actually opens, as President Trump, and U.S. Senate Majority Leader McConnell make their appearance for the press.

President Donald J. Trump took aim at both “obstructionist” Democrats, and members of his own Republican Party, as he acted twice this week via fiat, per executive authority he posses.

TrumpEnding7BillionObamaCareSubsidiesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The Bloomberg video shows the reply the president gave to the press on some questions regarding healthcare.

Repealing and replacing ObamaCare has been a cost-saving/job killing priority for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which represents hundreds of manufactured home industry companies.  Most of the GOP campaigned on that pledge.  While this move falls short of that goal, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has said that the moves undertaken this week were steps in the right direction, that he supported.

Several media outlets say that the steps taken by the president could nudge both parties to the bargaining table, to create “a deal” that would save taxpayers and insured money, while providing good coverage.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

We’ve spotlighted Skyline many times over the years.  Some of today’s headlines are highlighted in the snapshot below.

SkylineCorpAnalystNewsHeadlinesTodayDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

This report by CMLVIZ caught our eyes, so we thought we’d share their review of the technicals with the industry’s readers and investors.

Price Alert: Skyline Corporation (AMEX:SKY) Stock Nears Resistance — Technicals Hit Strength

Skyline Corporation technical rating as of 2017-10-12
(SKY Price of Stock at Publication: $11.2)

Price Alert: Skyline Corporation (AMEX:SKY) has now crossed into technical strength — watch the technical oscillators for momentum gaps. The company has not quite broken out to extreme strength, but rather sits at a four bull momentum rating — that is strength but not yet through technical resistance.

The risk here is that the stock cannot break through the approaching technical resistance which could mean the current strength could flip. But for now, the stock price is moving slightly higher and does have room to the upside before it hits a potential wall of resistance and an overbought momentum rating of five bulls.

SkylineStockReturnsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

SKY is up +82.1% over the last three months and up +31.8% over the last six months. The stock has returned -7.1% over the last year. The current stock price is $11.2.

SKY Stock Returns

The technical rating goes from a rating of one, the weakest upside technical, to a rating of five, the highest upside technical. This is strictly focusing on price and technical — that means we focus on real-time stock price movement and then position it relative to the simple moving averages. To make the technical rating meaningful, the moving averages are also compared to each other. (## End of the quotes from their report.)

Fed Plans on Rates

 FEDDividedOnInflationJanetYellenFedReserveChairPhotoDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The majority of Fed officials are worried that core inflation might not rebound quickly, but that isn’t going to stop them from continuing to normalize interest rates, particularly not when the unemployment rate is getting so low,” said Paul Ashworth, an economist at Capital Economics, per Fox Business.

Policymakers felt that another rate increase this year “was likely to be warranted,” the Fed said.

Fed Chair Janet Yellen has repeatedly acknowledged since the meeting that there is rising uncertainty on the path of inflation, which has been retreating from the Fed’s 2 percent target rate over the past few months,” said the Fox report.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Some ways that Obama era EPA roll-back will boost manufactured housing.

The Daily Business News on MHProNews has spent some time this year laying out the foundational principles of pro-growth economics.  One of the costs for production is energy.  It is one reason why this market report added the oil component to this business daily market report.  As transport and energy costs decline, more money is left in the hands of consumers, worker, and businesses.

EPARuleRollbackDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Rich Lowry wasn’t considered to be a pro-Trump fan, to put it politely.

TrumpRichLowryNeverTrumpersDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But his column in the New York Post caused the White House press room to share it with media outlets, like this one.

Here’s the Oval Office’s spotlighted segment from Lowry’s column.

TRUMP IS OVERWRITING OBAMA’S UNLAWFUL GREEN SCHEMES”

– Rich Lowry, New York Post

Rich Lowry in the New York Post writes on President Trump’s effort to roll back the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan, which was imposed with “tendentious readings of the law and sweeping bureaucratic actions.”

Lowry comments President Trump “has operated within constitutional lines better than his technocratic predecessor,” and the real problem with President Obama’s environmental plan is that it must not be instituted by “strained legal interpretations alone,” which it originally was, enough so that the Supreme Court blocked “its implementation pending all the lawsuits against it.”

Furthermore, although President Obama’s Climate Action Plan was designed to have an impact on global warming, Lowry reports the most it would do is “reduce the global temperature by 15 one-thousands of a degree by 2100.” Lowry concludes that President Obama’s “impatience with Congress and his administrative imperiousness,” led to presumptuous polices, and “what he imposed unilaterally is subject to unilateral reversal.”

Hurricane Season, JP Morgan Report Spotlights ETFs with Promise.

As regular readers know, the Daily Business News and the Masthead have been carefully tracking the reports coming from hurricane impacted areas of the U.S.

While their photo is a bit dated, Fox Business shared a snapshot of a report from J.P. Morgan on the outlook for sectors that can benefit from the tragedies of this year’s hurricane season.

HurricanSeasonsHelpBoostThesesSectorsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The rebuilding could help boost a number of market sectors, such as home construction, transportation and the broader materials segment. According to JP Morgan analysts, the combined costs of damages and infrastructure repair of the two hurricanes will reach a record-breaking estimated $260 billion,” said Fox Business.

As communities begin to rebuild in the coming months, demand in the infrastructure and construction markets will see positive trends,” Fox reported. “The damages are likely to create a greater need to rebuild bridges, homes, office, roads and others, fueling demand for all types of equipment. This means growth within construction ETFs, like the SPDR S&P Homebuilders ETF (NYSEArca: XHB ) and iShares U.S. Home Construction ETF (BATS: ITB ), are to be expected. As people head to stores like Lowe’s (LOW) and Home Depot (HD), companies covered in these ETFs, the companies will likely see positive results as demand for building materials increases.”

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

 ControversialVMFVanderbiltMortgageFinanceBerkshireHathawayCompanyLogoLaunchesMHCommunityCommericalLendingProgramDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

In a media release, Berkshire Hathaway, and Clayton Homes’ long-time “captive” controversial lending unit, Vanderbilt Mortgage has dived into a competition with the industry’s commercial mortgage brokers.

The national home lender previously originated loans exclusively for consumer manufactured housing,” said the VMF release on Markets Insider, but now it is expanding its operations to include lending to land-lease communities (manufactured housing communities and parks). Vanderbilt will offer commercial financing in select states, with a focus on making loans in the $1 million to $5 million range.”

That would put them in direct competition with other industry commercial loan originators and brokers, several of which are Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) members.

Congressional and Non-Profit Allegations, CFPB Investigation

As was reported recently at this link here, VMF has been accused by congressional lawmakers of “near monopoly” practices, along with:

  • Racism,
  • Steering, and
  • Predatory Lending practices.

MHProNews reached out again today to VMF President, Eric Hamilton, asking him to confirm or deny claims of current and pending fines against their firm, as well as giving him an opportunity to denounce all racism.

Once more, as of this publishing, Hamilton declined comment.

MHProNews readers will be advised if Hamilton, MHI or other Berkshire Hathaway units will make a statement on these thorny issues.

MHI has been scrutinized for allegedly tilting towards Berkshire Hathaway in its operation, and for engaging in controversial practices questioned by some of its own members. Three of several examples that involve lending are linked here, here, and here.

Which begs the question.  Will MHI now tilt towards VMF in matters relating to commercial finance, to the detriment of other industry members?

For more examples, click this link here.

Their release notes that they’ve been “In business for more than 40 years, the company currently services more than 180,000 home loans…”

Consumer Affairs website gives an overall positive review of the firm, but they include a posted statement that says, “Vanderbilt Mortgage pays a monthly fee to participate in the Consumer Affairs accreditation program and may also pay a referral fee for links on our site.”  The screen capture below reflects the other side of VMF’s public reviews.
