“California Dreaming” – TB, Disease Exploding – KOMO Spotlights Tragic Spread of Homelessness in City of Angeles

July 2nd, 2019 Comments off

There are an estimated one million rats in Los Angeles – L.A. – the largest city in the “Golden State” of California.

Diseases not common in modern times are coming back with a vengeance.

In the modern version being played out today on the streets of Los Angeles and almost every other major city in the state, tens of thousands of the homeless are desperate for shelter, services and of course, drugs,” says KOMO’s YouTube page.

KOMO was the news station which produced the viral “Seattle is Dying” video report.

There are “Lots and lots of drugs. Eric Johnson reports on Paradise Lost: Homeless in Los Angeles.”

There are some 36,000 homeless in LA, about 59,000 in the county, per KOMO’s report.

The video shows you the result of what $620,000,000 spent by LA to ‘fight’ homelessness. $620 million. Where did that much money go, when there are so many homeless? That’s about $17,222 per homeless person.

Earlier today, the Daily Business News on MHProNews spotlighted President Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson, and part of that interview focused on this explosion of homelessness on the streets of major cities, such as L.A., NY City, San Francisco, Seattle, and other metros.  The president says that a common denominator is that these are cities run by Democrats, a liberal “establishment.”

President Trump Mulls Federal Action Intervening on Homeless Crisis in U.S. Cities

During the recent Democratic debates, housing was brought up by a few of the candidates, but not all. In their defense, it wasn’t a question that NBC News asked, and given short times for an answer, it is perhaps not surprising that more didn’t speak out.

But what sources suggest is that housing will be a serious topic in the 2020 campaigns.  The president and the GOP is clearly laying the foundation for their case.  Democratic hopefuls have spoken outside of the debate arena about some huge proposed programs, but some in the industry say those plans could prove harmful to the interests of manufactured housing.

This will be a topic that MHProNews will monitor and report on. Until next time, while opportunity knocks, tragedy seems to be thumping much louder.

President Trump Mulls Federal Action Intervening on Homeless Crisis in U.S. Cities

July 2nd, 2019 Comments off

PresidentTrumpMullsFederalActionInterveningHomelessCrisisInUSCitiesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Still from the first video, posted below.

Tucker Carlson Tonight (TCT) had an exclusive interview with President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump that was aired on 7.1.2019.  It covered foreign and domestic affairs. It included concerns over antitrust or monopolistic related issues, but also on the growing problems of homelessness in America.

The first segment of part two of that interview begins with questions about the power of big tech over the marketplace.  From that, is this POTUS Trump pull-quote: “A lot of people want us to take [federal antitrust, other legal] action against Facebook, Twitter and frankly against Amazon.”

When asked by Carlson if the Trump Administration will take action, the 45th president demurred, saying “I can’t say,” meaning he is not able to comment.

About halfway through this video below on right-of-center Fox News, Carlson pivots to a comparison of the cleanliness of Japanese cities compared to many in the United States.

Carlson named New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles as examples of cities with a homeless problem.  These are among the places that MHProNews and our sister site have reported on or mentioned previously.

The president said, “Its disgraceful…We are looking at it very seriously. You can’t do that,” meaning allow such problems to occur.

The president said that people and police officers are getting sick just from walking the streets were human waste and other troubling issues are occurring routinely, as was dramatically documented in the viral “Seattle is Dying” video report.

SeattleisDyingAreCitiesNearYouDyingTooHighCostsCorruptedSystemsManufacturedHousingPotentialSilverLiningMHProNEws

“…You can’t do that, you can’t ruin our cities,” the president told Carlson. He said it is the “liberal Establishment” that runs those cities. “It’s a terrible thing that is taking place.”

The president said that shortly after he took office, that he addressed similar issues that were occurring in “certain places in Washington, D.C. where that was starting to happen.”

POTUS Trump said he ended it “very quickly” because you can’t have world leaders coming and witnessing that in the nation’s capital.

After putting it in the context of the prior beauty of San Francisco, where Trump branded companies have business interests, he said, “We are looking at that very seriously.

Do these governors or mayors” where these troubling issues are occurring “really think this is a positive?” rhetorically asked the president. He said the problems with homelessness wasn’t okay, and “It’s destroying a whole way of life.”

The first part of the same interview is posted below.  It dealt more with trade and foreign affairs.

How Does This Homeless Issue Relate to Affordable Housing, and Manufactured Homes?

That too is a rhetorical question, because the connection should be obvious. The recent White House announcement of an executive order that established a council to address the barriers to affordable housing is arguably a predicate to whatever the Trump Administration is preparing to do.

YIMBY Action, Extreme Housing Shortage, and Manufactured Homes

April 24th, 2019 Comments off

YimbyActionExtremeHousingShortageAndManufacturedHomesMHProNews

The San Francisco Bay Area, and California generally, has an extreme housing shortage.” So says YIMBY Action. The video posted further below by John Stossel for Reason makes their point in sobering terms.

Unlike NIMBY, YIMBY means, Yes In My Back Yard.

NIMByNotInMyBackYardDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

YIMBY Action says, “This housing shortage is causing unacceptably high home prices and rents. These costs kneecap our ability to save money, force us into crowded conditions, and trap us in jobs and housing conditions that are inadequate.”

That’s in part an economic argument, and it is supported by the law of supply and demand.

Our housing crisis forces us to commute long hours, increasing carbon emissions and robbing us of time with our families. We must build housing everywhere in the Bay Area to end this shortage. Build housing now!” is their mantra. The video below is featured on their home page.

The forces they describe, “…increase displacement and gentrification, and make it impossible for San Francisco to be an engine of opportunity or social mobility.” That’s a familiar argument but lacks some of the added details found in the report linked below.

Several newspapers in Florida ran a letter by our publisher, L. A. ‘Tony’ Kovach. That letter explains that the common link to problems that spark misunderstanding about manufactured housing are often connected to Berkshire Hathaway brands and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).  Pick a link, take a look, and share it with others.

There are a variety of organizations and non-profits, businesses, faith-based, and governmental organizations that are natural allies for a robust application of manufactured homes. YIMBY Action could be one of them. The laws are already on the industry’s side.  The facts – properly understood – favor manufactured homes.

Has MHI reached out to YIMBY Action?

We’ll plan to ask them, plus others in the days ahead, and will let you know.  One way or another, let’s see if MHI can become engaged in doing their job to help robust industry growth, not just more consolidation because of low or negative growth.

The need for affordable housing is vast.  The lack of affordable housing hasn’t just hurt Seattle, it is hurting cities like San Francisco.

Hard to Overstate the Needs

According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Annual Homeless Assessment Report, as of 2017 there were around 554,000 homeless people in the United States on a given night,” says Wikipedia.

The most proven form of permeant affordable housing are manufactured homes. Yet, MHI and their big-boy brands appears to be okay with low sales levels, or they have a proven ability to meet, talk and take photos with public officials without purportedly accomplishing their stated goals.

It is better to light one candle, than curse the darkness.  Our industry can and should be measuring new HUD Code manufactured home sales in the millions every decade, not just the hundreds of thousands. Seattle Is Dying, Are Cities Near You Dying Too? High Costs, Corrupted Systems, Manufactured Housing’s Potential Silver Lining

April 7th, 2019 Comments off

SeattleisDyingAreCitiesNearYouDyingTooHighCostsCorruptedSystemsManufacturedHousingPotentialSilverLiningMHProNEws

Thwarting what is natural has its costs.

Manipulation of people, their healthy aspirations toward ownership, and their legitimate choices are arguably at or near the root causes the unfolding tragedies spotlighted by KOMO’s viral report, Seattle is Dying

Let’s set aside for a few moments whatever Warren Buffett led Berkshire Hathaway and his coterie had in mind. For whatever reasons, they’ve clearly failed at tapping into the kinds of opportunities that stories such as Seattle is Dying should bring to manufactured home retailers, communities, developers, producers, and others.

The proof is found in the latest shipment numbers, which are among the reports liked below in this week’s Sunday morning headline news recap.

The balance of the nuances, legal disclaimers, and particulars are found in the reports that follow below.

Tomorrow there will be a report about one of the industry’s ‘solution’ efforts underway in Washington, D.C. Don’t miss it.

Properly understood, manufactured housing could position itself as a hero for cites and towns across America. We should be a celebrated industry, not a denigrated one. So why is our housing type being pushed out of places like Bryan, TX instead?

Watch the two videos in the MHLivingNews report below, If you do, you’ll begin to understand that affordable housing is necessary, compassionate, and smart.  Law enforcement, and intervention on social issues related to drug abuse are smart too. The opportunities for our industry are immense, but they won’t be tapped by repeating the missteps of recent years.

With no further adieu, let’s dive into the reports for the week that was from 3.31.2019 to 4.7.2019. Click the linked image-text boxes to access that report.
