Consumer Confidence Receding

May 1st, 2015 Comments off

unhappy face fotosearchThe private research group the Conference Board reports consumers are more worried about the economy as well as the outlook for the future. As the Wall Street Journal tells rvbusiness, its index of consumer confidence dropped to 95.2 in April, from 101.4 in March. Consumers’ assessment of current economic conditions dropped from 109.5 to 106.8. Consumer expectations for the next six months fell nearly nine percent, from 96.0 down to 87.5, MHProNews has learned.

Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at the board, said, “Consumer confidence, which had rebounded in March, gave back all of the gain and more in April. Coupled with waning expectations, there is little to suggest that economic momentum will pick up in the months ahead.” ##

rv mh half of fame in Elkhart INDDuring the Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) 78th annual meeting, Darryl Searer, chairman and president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Barry Cole, president of MH Insurance Services and past chairman of the Hall, urged assistance from the attendees to help retire the Hall’s debt, which has resulted from prior unfulfilled pledges. To that end, Searer unveiled a five year fundraiser to take on the debt, which is less than $2.45 million, having been reduced by $3 million over the last 30 months, as rvbusiness.com informs MHProNews. Cole, noting that Searer has been a volunteer president for the past two-and-one-half years, said the idea resulted from his conversation with Kevin Clayton, CEO of Clayton Homes, who pledged $40,000 a year for the next five years after learning of the Hall’s improved financial position. The fundraiser will be called the “Kevin Clayton Debt Elimination Challenge” in honor of his generosity. Cavco Industries, Inc. Latest Survey Indicates Consumer Sentiment is Rising

September 26th, 2014 Comments off

photobucket_creditConsumer confidence moved to a 14-month high, according to a Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan index. While economists in a Bloomberg survey projected 84.8 for Sept., the actual number came in at 84.6, a jump from 82.5 in August. According to rvbusiness.com, employment is growing at the strongest pace in 15 years, and lower gasoline prices help sweeten the economy for consumers. “The consumer has hardly looked better this cycle,” said Jacob Oubina, senior U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets LLC in New York. “Job growth, income growth and a sharp decline in gasoline prices over the last few months will conspire to keep a pretty decent underpinning on consumer confidence.” As MHProNews understands, consumer purchases comprise 70 percent of the economy. ##
