UFPI Acquires Distributor of Wood Products for MH

ufpi__creditA subsidiary of Universal Forest Products, Inc. (NASDAQ:UFPI) is acquiring Idaho Western, Inc., a Nampa, ID distributor of products for the manufactured home (MH) and recreational vehicle (RV) industries as well as for building materials retailers.

UFPI’s Caldwell, ID facility, which also supplies wood and wood products to the MH and RV industries, will be consolidated into Idaho Western, supplying customers in the Northwest with products ranging from lumber and siding to doors and plywood. Founded in 1978, its annual net sales are approximately $21 million, according to nasdaq.

This strategic acquisition will allow us to bolster our foothold in the manufactured housing and retail markets by expanding our product offering and our geographic reach,” said Universal Forest Products CEO Matthew J. Missad.

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Mich., UFPI is a component supplier to the MH and RV industries. MHProNews tracks its daily stock report on our Daily Business News website. UFPI’s stock closed up in yesterday’s (June 20) session +1.74 percent at $88.40. ##

Bowersox Takes Vice President Position with Manufactured Housing Institute

mark_bowersox__linked_in__creditMHProNews has learned from the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association-Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council (IMHA-RVIC) that Executive Director Mark Bowersox has resigned his position as of Sept. 5, 2015. With IMHA-RVIC for 12 years, he began as the association’s RV director, added the title of marketing director before being promoted to Executive Director Jan. 1, 2010.

Association President Ken Eckstein said, “Mark became Executive Director in 2010 when both the manufactured housing and RV industries were struggling, and our association reflected the difficulties of the industries. In Mark’s tenure, our organization has increased its membership, financial reserves and impact with lawmakers. We appreciate his efforts and we believe that IMHA-RVIC is well positioned for success moving forward.

Bowersox is taking a position as Vice President of Industry Relations with the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) where he will be working with members and state association executives.

IMHA-RVIC has created a search committee to chose Bowersox’ replacement. Founded in 1945, IMHA-RVIC is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association based in Indianapolis with over 375 members representing all sectors of the MH and RV industries. ##

Drew Industries Makes the Grade

Combining the manufactured housing (MH) and recreational vehicle (RV) industries together, investors.com ranks the combination 19th out of 197 industry groups that Investors Business Daily (IBD) tracks. The group has seven members but only three are significant, MHProNews has learned. Manufactured housing’s sister business Thor Industries (THO) ranks number one, followed by Winnebago Industries (WGO) in the second spot, and Drew Industries (DW) fills out the third position due to its strong earnings growth over the last three years. Through its subsidiaries, Lippert Components, Inc. and Kinro, Inc., Drew supplies components to the MH and RV industries. Drew closed up in today’s trading, +0.32% to end the session at 43.84.

Lippert Acquires 56 Acres for Future Expansion

MHProNews has learned Lippert components, Inc. (LCI) has purchased a 56-acre plot of land outside the Goshen, Indiana city corporate limit, but adjacent to the city corporate lines, for future company use. LCI is a component supplier to the the manufactured housing and RV industries, according to rvbusiness.com, as well as to the cargo/horse trailer industry. The company will be responsible for water and sewer hook-up fees as well as for inspections of those lines. The Goshen City Council approved a request for annexation. LCI, with its sister company Kinro, Inc., are subsidiaries of Drew Industries, Inc. (NYSE:DW).

RV Sales Spike Manufactured Housing Component Suppliers

As sales of manufactured housing’s sister industry, the recreational vehicle (RV) business, began accelerating in mid-2012, it also spurred the sales of several manufactured housing (MH) component suppliers. Shipments of motor homes rose 30 percent through May of this year compared to 2012. Drew Industries, Inc., one of the three largest companies in the Investor’s Business Daily’s (IBD) Building-Mobile/Manufactured Homes group, supplies slide-out mechanisms and other items for the RV industry. Its sales rose 36 percent in Q3 2012, as IBD informs MHProNews. Overall, the group’s ranking as of Friday, July 19 had risen to 58 out of 197 industries from number 171 at the beginning of May. Included in the ranking are modular and MH manufacturer Cavco Industries and Patrick Industries, maker of ceiling and wall panels for the MH and RV industries.

Lippert Seeking Tax Break

RVBusiness informs MHProNews Lippert Components, Inc. has asked the Goshen (Ind.) City Council for a tax break to expand its operations and hire 376 more employees by 2016, spending $10 million for new equipment. A division of Drew Industries, Inc., Lippert is a component supplier to the manufactured housing and RV industries, and currently employs 4,000 workers in Elkhart County, along with its sister industry, Kinro, Inc. Over a seven year period Lippert would save $484,380 in property taxes. The hourly wage of the new employees would average $13/hour.

Lippert has new Boss of Windows

InsideIndianaBusiness informs MHProNews that Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI) of Goshen, IN has hired Frank Perna as vice president of operations for manufactured housing windows. A 25-year veteran of the vinyl and aluminum window industry, Perna has been with Silver Line Building Products LLC, a division of Andersen Windows. He will replace Jim Chamberlain of Kinro, Inc., LCI’s sister company, a veteran of 17 years with the company, who will stay on in an advisory role for a year until his retirement. Lippert and Kinro are subsidiaries of Drew Industries, Inc. (NYSE:DW), providing a variety of components for the manufactured and modular housing, and RV industries.

Elkhart Ind. is Bustling

Lippert Components, Inc., component supplier to the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industries, is part of a strong industrial growth pattern in Elkhart, Ind, as etruth informs MHProNews. Lippert began as a steel fabricating plant in rural Michigan in the 1950’s, and has been fabricating chassis for manufactured housing since the beginning. It now has 34 plants and 5,300 employees. With the uptick in the RV industry, Elkhart is drawing related industries. Genesis Products, Inc. manufactures wood products primarily for the RV industry, and like Lippert, got its start as a small company ten years ago and now has five facilities. Named the eighth fastest growing privately held manufacturing company in the Inc. 500 ranking in 2007, Genesis intends to expand operations and hire an additional 100 employees by 2015. Lippert is a subsidiary of Drew Industries, Inc. (which recently moved its corporate offices to Elkhart from White Pains, NY) and with it’s sister company, Kinro, Inc. provides doors and windows to the MH and RV industries, and together they both manufacture an extensive line of bathroom fixtures.

Drew Set to Release Q4 Results

RVBusiness informs MHProNews Drew Industries, Inc. of White Plains, NY will release its financials for Q4 2012 before the market opens on Wed. Feb. 20, and then host a conference call that same day at 11 AM ET for institutional investors and analysts. Others may listen to a live webcast of the call by contacting the company. Drew is the parent company of Kinro Inc. and Lippert Components, Inc., which supply the MH and RV industries with doors, windows, and other components.

MH Chassis Start-up Starts in Ind.

Wolfpack Chassis of Kendallville, Ind. has received $125,000 in seed money from non-profit Elevate Ventures’ Indiana Angel Network Fund (IANF), according to what insideindianabusiness tells MHProNews. Starting this winter, Wolfpack, located in northern Ind. near other MH and RV-related firms, will manufacture chassis and chassis components for the manufactured home and RV industries. Private investors from northeast Ind. have put in $630,000 seed money as well. The company will hire 20 welders and frame builders for the first two assembly lines. Eventually Wolfpack intends to expand manufacturing to include trailers and class A chassis. Elevate Ventures provides professional advisory services to start-ups and entrepreneurs and connects them with other resources in the state.
