“Greatest…Journey in Human History,” Presidential Salute to America, Videos, Report

Videos posted further below.

President Donald Trump celebrated “the greatest political journey in human history” Thursday in a Fourth of July commemoration before a soggy, cheering crowd of spectators,” said left-of-center Time Magazine.

With jets roaring overhead and a poncho-clad crowd before him, President Donald Trump implored Americans to come together Thursday in a show of national pride — a rare unifying message…” began a report by left-of-center CNN.

The New York Times, which like CNN and Time are known for being anti-Trump, had this headline this morning: “With Flyovers and Flags, Trump Plays M.C. for the Fourth.” NY Times writer Michael D. Shear opened with, “The president began with a rare call for unity in his 45-minute speech, but mostly spent time recounting the history of the armed forces, planes punctuating his message.”

Right-of-center Breitbart’s top headline this morning proclaimed: “Yuge: President Trump Notes ‘Great Crowd’ at Salute to America.”

DonaldJTrumpRetweetGrahamLedgerSalutetoAmericaCrowdsizenationalMallWashingtonDCMHProNews

Right-of-center Fox News posted this video of the “Salute to America” July 4th event.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owned, left-of-center Washington Post, posted this video of the national fireworks in Washington, D.C. last night.

The president had a career that included media, and he has rightly been called a showman. The NY Times reference to the president as the master of ceremonies, M.C., is balanced by the ubiquitous Drudge report reminder this morning that prior presidents have used the backdrop of the 4th of July in various ceremonies, although not this elaborate.

While there have been and will be digs against the event, the sampling above reflects that notion that it was largely free of partisanship.  It was a call to national unity. It specifically mentioned historical figures that included Democrats, Republicans and those with no known major political affiliation.

ICYMI, it was spectacular. One can rightly call it the antidote for what Gallup called sliding patriotism. It was a reminder of American exceptionalism and sacrifice that advanced the march toward what the founders saw as the struggle toward “a more perfect Union” of the states, knowing it wasn’t perfect, but was better than other such efforts in world history.  “We Provide, You Decide.” © (News, analysis, and commentary.)

“California Dreaming” – TB, Disease Exploding – KOMO Spotlights Tragic Spread of Homelessness in City of Angeles

July 2nd, 2019 No comments

There are an estimated one million rats in Los Angeles – L.A. – the largest city in the “Golden State” of California.

Diseases not common in modern times are coming back with a vengeance.

In the modern version being played out today on the streets of Los Angeles and almost every other major city in the state, tens of thousands of the homeless are desperate for shelter, services and of course, drugs,” says KOMO’s YouTube page.

KOMO was the news station which produced the viral “Seattle is Dying” video report.

There are “Lots and lots of drugs. Eric Johnson reports on Paradise Lost: Homeless in Los Angeles.”

There are some 36,000 homeless in LA, about 59,000 in the county, per KOMO’s report.

The video shows you the result of what $620,000,000 spent by LA to ‘fight’ homelessness. $620 million. Where did that much money go, when there are so many homeless? That’s about $17,222 per homeless person.

Earlier today, the Daily Business News on MHProNews spotlighted President Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson, and part of that interview focused on this explosion of homelessness on the streets of major cities, such as L.A., NY City, San Francisco, Seattle, and other metros.  The president says that a common denominator is that these are cities run by Democrats, a liberal “establishment.”

President Trump Mulls Federal Action Intervening on Homeless Crisis in U.S. Cities

During the recent Democratic debates, housing was brought up by a few of the candidates, but not all. In their defense, it wasn’t a question that NBC News asked, and given short times for an answer, it is perhaps not surprising that more didn’t speak out.

But what sources suggest is that housing will be a serious topic in the 2020 campaigns.  The president and the GOP is clearly laying the foundation for their case.  Democratic hopefuls have spoken outside of the debate arena about some huge proposed programs, but some in the industry say those plans could prove harmful to the interests of manufactured housing.

This will be a topic that MHProNews will monitor and report on. Until next time, while opportunity knocks, tragedy seems to be thumping much louder.

HUD Secretary Ben Carson Sounds Off on Housing Market, Opportunity Zones, More

March 14th, 2019 Comments off

HUDSecretaryBenCarsonOnHousingMarketDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

There is discussion of the 2020 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Budget, and its impact on housing.

There talk about opportunity zones, something that could prove useful for manufactured home producers, among others.

Then there is discussion by Secretary Carson on homelessness and more.

This week, Secretary Ben Carson appeared on CNBC to discuss how HUD is promoting economic opportunity through the Opportunity Zones initiative, among other tools for revitalizing distressed communities around the country and creating more affordable housing for American families.

With Opportunity Zones – which MHProNews spotlighted earlier this week – Carson said, “you are taking dollars that are going to be invested in something somewhere, and you are directing them to the areas that have been most neglected economically, historically,” Secretary Carson said. We have “a chance to revitalize those areas and to provide jobs and opportunities for the people there so they can climb the ladders [of opportunity] and become part of the American dream.”

Secretary Carson serves as Chair of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. The Council’s 13 Federal member agencies will engage with governments at all levels to identify ways to effectively use taxpayer dollars to revitalize low-income communities.  The video also discussed the 2020 HUD Budget, some facts about the manufactured housing component of that topic are in the report linked below the byline, email headline news sign-up, and notices.

Game On: “Socialism is About Power, not Equality,” Space Force, and Battle for Manufactured Housing Independence

February 21st, 2019 Comments off

GameOnSocialsmIsAboutPowerNotEqualitySpaceForceBattleForManufacturedHousingIndependenceDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The manufactured housing industry has to a significant degree been conquered. Who will be the leaders and the voices that liberate our industry, it’s millions of home owners, and the millions more who could benefit from manufactured home living?

That’s a tough but pertinent question, as the battle for 2020 is well underway.

There are capital, communications, and legal battles ahead for the manufactured home industry.

And the industry’s professionals and home owners must realize that the potential voting block is one worth fighting for by political rivals.

On the left, there are figures like House Financial Services Committed Chair Maxine Waters. She’s on record opposing several business practices of Clayton Homes and their affiliated lenders. There are reports in mainstream media about her call to both the Department of Justice and HUD to investigate Clayton and their lenders.

Also on the left, is Senator Elizabeth Warren. She laid out a legal case for using existing laws to break up various monopolistic forces.  MHProNews and MHLivingNews has covered those events as hopeful opportunities, while critiquing other political positions held by those same Democratic lawmakers.

Then, there’s Democrat turned Republican, President Donald J. Trump. Some call him a populist. His policies are arguably a blend of positions held by leaders of both major parties. That’s why he was and is battled from within the ranks of the GOP, not just the Democratic political machine.

Each side of the political aisle has points of attraction, and ideally affordable quality living is a non-partisan issue.

Several Democratic leaders, including 2020 presidential hopefuls, have publicly supported the Green New Deal.  It’s come under fire from with the ranks of Democrats, and from Republicans, but does have support too.

There are several Democratic leaders who routinely call on taxing the rich. Senator Warren is pushing for a wealth tax. We would question the constitutionality of some of those proposals. But is there a different path? Is there a lawful way to bring forces on the left and right together for the sake of the country, wealth-building affordable housing, and manufactured homes role in that emerging vision?

Socialism is about power, not equality

A crowd of Venezuelan Americans stood before President Donald J. Trump in Miami yesterday, cheering as he put America squarely on the side of those fighting for freedom. “We’re here to proclaim a new day is coming in Latin America,” he said. “In Venezuela and across the western hemisphere, socialism is dying and liberty, prosperity, and democracy are being reborn.”

His message to Nicolas Maduro: “Let your people go.”

American leadership is making the difference. The United States and more than 50 countries across the world have recognized the rightful government of Venezuela. “Within 30 minutes, the United States was proud to be the first nation in the world to recognize President [Juan] Guaido” as the country’s interim leader, President Trump said.

Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua offer a lesson to the world: Socialism always promises unity but delivers division and hatred. It promises a better future—and inevitably returns to the darkest chapters of the past. Not long ago, Venezuela was the richest country in South America. Today, after its tyrannical government nationalized industries and took over private business, nearly 90 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty.

Americans know this history well, having witnessed socialism destroy countries throughout the 20th century. Nearly three-fifths of Americans have an unfavorable view of socialism; a majority have a favorable view of capitalism. Support for far-left schemes such as Medicare-for-All has plummeted as voters learn more about what’s in it. The extremist “Green New Deal” is beginning to suffer the same fate.

“We know that socialism is not about justice. It’s not about equality; it’s not about lifting up the poor,” President Trump said yesterday. “Socialism is about one thing only: power for the ruling class. And the more power they get, the more they crave . . . All of us here today know that there is nothing less democratic than socialism.”

Watch: “The United States of America is standing right by their side.”

Worth sharing: “We are born free, and we will stay free—now and forever.”

The Space Force is here

President Trump signed Space Policy Directive-4 this afternoon, marking a bold step toward American space dominance by setting in motion the process of creating a U.S. Space Force as the sixth branch of our Armed Forces.

The Directive calls on the Secretary of Defense to develop a legislative proposal for the Space Force, embodying President Trump’s vision for keeping Americans safe:

•          Strengthen America’s ability to compete—and win—in an increasingly contested domain

•          Organize, train, and equip our space warfighters with next-generation capabilities

•          Maximize successful warfighting capability while minimizing bureaucracy

Peace through strength has been President Trump’s foreign policy since day one, and this newest frontier is no exception. The United States is the best in space, and our adversaries know it. They want to restrict our access there to undermine our strategic advantage. With the U.S. Space Force up and running, that won’t happen.

Get the facts: America’s destiny in space is secure.

Watch: President Trump signs the Space Force directive

— End of White House Release —

Democrats are laying out their vision for the nation in the run-up to 2020.  One of those popular visions is linked further below.

President Donald J. Trump is laying out his vision, via White House statements like the one above.

LATonyKovachGoodBipartisanshipShouldalwaysBepredicatedBenefitallhonestindustrymembersnotslectfewquote

The comment above was said with respect to another recent topic, but relates to this issue too.

Editorially, MHProNews has noted previously that there are some positions that Democrats hold – on issues like antitrust enforcement, or possible reforms of the GSEs – that could be useful for manufactured housing.

At the same time, President Trump’s Administration has rolled back more regulations than any other president’s administration in modern times.  Some of those rollbacks have proven useful for the manufactured housing industry.  The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has generated numerous actual and potential boosts to manufactured housing and factory-builders.

So, there will be a tug-of-war, as in every election cycle, between the various claims and track records of the two major parties.  Plus, there will be possible independent runs for the White House, like the one postured by Starbucks founder, billionaire, and Democrat Howard Schultz.

Track records – actual results – plus the prudence of the platforms should guide the industry’s pros in their support and votes. Democratic and Republican Policy Dilemmas, Affordable Housing, Economic Growth, and Manufactured Homes

February 18th, 2019 Comments off

DemocraticRepublicanPolilcyDilemmasAffordableHousingManufacturedHomesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Let’s be clear. The publishers of MHProNews are political independents. We believe that affordable housing is a non-partisan issue.

A new report stresses the notion that Democratic and Republican lawmakers can and are working across the partisan political divide to promote manufactured homes as an important part of the solution for the affordable housing crisis.  That’s an encouraging example that Washington, D.C. could successfully embrace.  See that report by clicking on the linked text/image box below.

Democrats, Republicans Agree – “Manufactured Homes Can Play a Vital Role in Easing” the Affordable Housing Shortage

Ideally, bipartisan efforts to advance affordable housing could spell job plus household wealth creation.  The right policy supports and/or changes will either make common sense cures easier, or harder.  See the report below to learn more.

While MHProNews’ questions the practicality and constitutionality of many parts of the so-called Green New Deal, there are some stated positions taken by Democrats that we editorially believe makes sense. For example, Senator Elizabeth Warren has previously laid out a good case for antitrust action based upon existing law. We applaud her on that score, but more important, would encourage and celebrate its ASAP adoption.

Who Will Act? Will Senator Elizabeth Warren, and/or the Trump Administration Act to Restore Open Markets, Thereby Supporting Affordable Manufactured Homes?

House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters and some of her colleagues raised a warning a few years ago about Clayton Homes and their lending/businesses practices. That should be pressed by Waters and all on the House Financial Services Committee (FSC).

President Trump and some Republican lawmakers are similarly raising concerns about monopolistic practices that can unjustly twist the political process.  That goes beyond manufactured homes, and focuses on the tech giants known by the acronym #FAANG. While we believe in free enterprise, we oppose warped forms of rigged capitalism.  Free enterprise has rejected the trusts – monopolies – for decades.  That’s a position that Democrats and Republicans could agree upon. Beyond FAANG, Berkshire Hathaway and Microsoft (#BM) arguably should arguably be broken up under antitrust laws.  Doing so would achieve what Professor Scott Galloways said in the quotation below about the big four, but could be applied beyond those 4 to #DeFaangBM.

Put differently, there is a broad consensus that could be forged to advance not unconstitutional wealth redistribution, but rather enforcement of laws that may fine or punish some who have broken various laws.  That could also give more opportunities for new businesses and existing ones to emerge.

There is no logic or need to jettison what made America the wealthiest nation on earth. Rather, what is necessary is to apply the “American Way” principles of equal justice under the law that Democrats, Republicans, and Independents have effectively achieved at various points in times past.

Draft EO for Trump Administration AntiTrust Order Obtained by MHProNews

Breaking up monopolies is good public policy. Advancing affordable housing – including, but not limited to – the liberal use of manufactured housing just makes good sense too.

It’s a disgrace that America is not in the top 20, 30, or even 40 nations on earth in the rate of home ownership.

Home ownership, as HUD Secretary Ben Carson often said during his first year in office makes a significant difference in growing the personal wealth of Americans.  Renting households, said Carson, have an average household net worth of $5,000.  The average home owner, by contrast, has a net worth of some $200,000.  The most proven form of affordable housing has been manufactured homes.

Citizens can’t easily stop political posturing or game playing.  But what voters can do is encourage their elected representatives to promote the proven solutions now that routinely don’t even require new legislation.   What is needed is enforcement of existing laws.

MHVille Exclusive – Democrats Senators Sign Anti-Competitive Practices Letter to DoJ, Plus MH Market Updates

Democrats and Republicans each have billionaire supporters.  Money won’t be taken out of politics anytime soon.  The FAANG and BM have armies of lobbyists.  They will want more regulation, not an antitrust breakup.  But only an antitrust breakup will achieve what is needed for the American people.

Brad Says POTUS Trump is Right: More than Facebook & Twitter, Google Threatens Democracy, Online Freedom

Implementing an agenda that is non-partisan and can give each side ‘political victories’ by using existing laws is a simple notion whose time has come. Polls reveal that the public wants bipartisanship, and they are also catching onto the serious levels of ‘fake news’ that exists.

Capital, financing, regulatory and other internal or external hurdles have hampered the recovery of manufactured housing (MH) for some 15 (+/-) years.

Certainly, jobs and the general economy are also factors in selling more manufactured homes, as publicly traded companies in manufactured housing often tell their shareholders or potential investors.

marty-lavin-jd-manufacturedhomefinanceexpert-DailyBusinessNews-mhpronews

Marty Lavin, JD.

Areas in America that lost factories have ripple economic consequences, said noted manufactured home industry finance, retail, and communities veteran, Marty Lavin, J.D.

Some places were as devastated by years of trade questionable U.S. trade policies as if they had been war zones, said Lavin, in his analysis linked below.

Free Trade or Economic War?

While there are plenty on Wall Street types that fret and disagree with the Trump Administration agenda, some are now seeing it as Lavin expressed exclusively to MHProNews weeks ago.

There are plenty of naysayers across the left-right political, economic, and media divide on the issue of trade.

I actually think he’s (Trump’s) right on the big picture on trade,” Eric Lonergan, macro fund manager at M&G, said.

Lonergan doesn’t necessarily agree with the administration’s rhetoric, but he is confident that the principles are sound, he told CNBC on Wednesday.

Lonergan added, Europe is free-riding global demand, running huge trade surpluses and nobody has really stood up credibly to that ideology until Trump.”

CNBC’s accompanying take is that “Trade relations between the U.S. and some of its biggest trading partners — Europe, China, Canada and Mexico — are at rock bottom several months after Trump first threatened to slap import tariffs on steel and aluminum imports after alleging trade abuses.”

As if to confirm Lavin’s and Lonergan’s thoughts, enter Arancha Gonzalez.  Gonzalez is the executive director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), and said that Europe and the Trump Administration could be closing the gap on trade talks.

The EU is saying two things. The first thing… is we will not negotiate under a threat, we will not negotiate with a gun to our head. But the second thing the EU is saying (is) that, alright, if there is a particular sector causing difficulties to the U.S. like vehicles, let’s sit down and discuss,” Gonzalez told CNBC’s Joumanna Bercetche on Wednesday.

In the video interview that follows, the president teases with a smile that the various nations in the trade feuds are calling routinely.  He confidently expects new, better trade deals for America.

If so, that would further fuel economic growth, which should benefit workers, and the MH industry’s continuing recovery.

White House Official Statement on Artificial Intelligence – Industry and Business Summit

Long before others in manufactured housing raised the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and automation as a concern for workers and independent businesses, the Daily Business News on MHProNews has led the charge on raising the industry’s awareness of the many nuances to this disruptive challenge.

With giants like Clayton Homes, directly and via surrogates, touting their edge in this field, the presidential initiative on AI is timely (see related reports, at the end of this post, below).  Part of the discussion needs to be how can the playing field be kept level between huge companies and smaller firms, down to the mom-and-pop level company?

We’re presenting the White House’s official statement to the Daily Business News on the issue in its entirety, below.

We’ve paired the Oval Office briefing with a video overview, courtesy of Special Report.

We’re on the verge of new technological revolutions that could improve virtually every aspect of our lives, create vast new wealth for American workers and families, and open up bold, new frontiers in science, medicine, and communication.”

      President Donald J. Trump

PRIORITIZING FUNDING FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (R&D): The Trump Administration has prioritized funding for fundamental AI research and computing infrastructure, machine learning, and autonomous systems.

  • The Federal Government’s investment in unclassified R&D for AI and related technologies has grownby over 40% since 2015, in addition to substantial classified investments across the defense and intelligence communities.
  • In the annual guidanceto heads of executive departments and agencies, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the White House Office Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) directed agencies to focus on emerging technologies including machine learning and autonomous systems.
  • President Trump’s FY2019 Budget Request was the first in history to designate artificial intelligence and autonomous and unmanned systems as Administration R&D priorities.

REMOVING BARRIERS TO AI INNOVATION: The Trump Administration is enabling the creation of new American industries by removing regulatory barriers to the deployment of AI-powered technologies.

  • Last September, the Department of Transportation released an updateto the 2016 Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, providing non-regulatory guidance to automated vehicle developers to enable the safe integration of driverless cars onto American roadways.
  • In October, President Trump signed a Presidential Memorandumto permit States and localities to conduct innovative commercial and public drone operations currently prohibited under FAA regulations.

TRAINING THE FUTURE AMERICAN WORKFORCE: President Trump has taken Executive action to give the American worker the skills to succeed in the 21st century economy.

ACHIEVING STRATEGIC MILITARY ADVANTAGE: The Trump Administration’s National Security Strategy recognizes the need to lead in artificial intelligence, and the Department of Defense is investing accordingly.

  • President Trump’s National Security Strategywas the first in history to specifically call out the importance of AI for the future of the American military.
  • The National Defense Strategycommitted to investing broadly in military applications of autonomy, AI, and machine learning.

LEVERAGING AI FOR GOVERNMENT SERVICES: Executive departments and agencies are applying AI to improve the provision of government services to the American people.

  • The President’s Management Agendacalls for using automation software to improve efficiency of government services and maximizing Federal data sharing with the American public, which will support non-Federal AI research applications.
  • The General Services Administration is conducting pilot programsthat leverage AI, including a tool to predict regulatory compliance that is scheduled for production in cloud.gov this year.

LEADING INTERNATIONAL AI NEGOTIATIONS: White House OSTP led U.S. delegations to the 2017 and 2018 G7 Innovation and Technology Ministerials, and is working with our allies to recognize the potential benefits of AI and promote AI R&D.

————- end of White House’s brief to MHProNews ————-

Technological advances have served humanity for centuries.  Will this time be different?  The challenges include the fact that other nations are pushing robotics, AI and automation in their military, cyberwarfare and in business too. It’s a complex issue, one that we’ll continue to report on.  ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Kanye Controversy, Universal Income, Venezuela, President Trump, Manufactured Housing, First Principles, and You

May 4th, 2018 Comments off

KanyeControversyUniversalIncomeVenezulaPresidentTrumpManufacturedHousingFirstPrinciplesYouDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews520

What could all of those individual topics in the headline possibly have in common? What could each of those current events mean to manufactured housing professionals, owners, investors and advocates?

Plenty.

Here’s the quick rundown. The glue for each are the two words, “first principles.”  Let’s look…

The Kanye Controversy

Kanye West and Candace Owens where highlighted just days ago on the Daily Business News. One week after West’s remarks lit up mainstream news and social media, a new poll reveals that black male support for President Donald J. Trump has doubled.

That African American support doubled in a single week.

Black support is still low, but that doubling is enough to put the 2018 midterms back into play as a jump ball.

Remember that the Daily Business News used the internals of a New York Times poll in 2016 to predict that the small drift of blacks they noted toward the Trump campaign would be enough in states like North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Recall how that turned out?

Universal Income

Last year, the Daily Business News did several reports on universal income, each making the point that it will not work. Finland announced recently it will suspend its test trials in Universal Income. They didn’t work.

That was entirely predictable.

Yet there are still some powerful American voices promoting the failed and flawed universal income concept. If results facts and results matter, why should you listen to them on this topic?

Certain Voices are Pushing It – Would Universal Income Help or Hurting Americans?

Venezuela

The Daily Business News has periodically mentioned the meltdown of socialist Venezuela. A headline in Drudge today says that inflation in Venezuela has now quadrupled to 18,000 percent, in just two months.  By contrast, “The current inflation rate for the United States is 2.4% for the 12 months ended March 2018,” per U.S. Inflation Calculator.

Venezuela voted in socialists spouting utopian promises about a decade ago. That proud land has gone from one of the stronger South American economies, turning into a basket-case where people are starving, and are now being politically oppressed.

The Daily Business News has also reported on the rising poll numbers of socialists in the U.S.

Troubling New Study Reveals a Millennial Trend, Business, Economic, Political Impact

Socialistic economics has not worked in Venezuela. It didn’t work in Greece, which the European Union bailed out. China is still communist but has turned to a more market economic system with less regulations.

Do you see the pattern?

No matter how much you like someone who is a preaching a socialistic economic approach, why trust or listen to them, when the clear pattern is one of repeated failure?

President Donald J. Trump

Keep in mind, editorially we are about principles over party labels. There is no doubt that the president has said and done things that get people across the spectrum stirred up.  MHProNews hears from those voices who complain about some tweet or remark about a controversial issue regularly.

A caller into a talk radio show observed that President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump is both “Democratic and Republican.” That’s truer that it may seem at first blush.

POTUS Trump has a position in common with Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) – trade and job protectionism.

POTUS is concerned over monopolistic impact over America’s economy and jobs. On that, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and right leaning Steve Bannon and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and the president all hold common ground.

Breakup “Massive Power” of Giants, “Subvert Our Democratic Process” Says Senator Cruz, & MH CEO’s Call for “Fully Competitive Housing Access”

On the southern border, former AZ sheriff Joe Arpaio and the president find common ground.  On peace through strength, the president looks like a Republican hawk; but he wants out of the Middle East as quickly as possible, a point he shares with libertarian leaning Senator Rand Paul (R-KY).

About 2 years ago, this independent MH industry writer and publication promoted President Trump for the White House. It was picked up by thousands of sites, including the Trump for President campaign site.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

The takeaway or principle involved?  Turn down the noise and the drama, focus on the goal and results over the style. MHProNews predicted that based upon Mr. Trump’s stated platform, he would be good for business, the economy, jobs, wages, and manufactured housing.

The results?

Based upon survey after survey and reams of economic data, so far, so good.

Like Kanye, it’s about looking at what works instead of being distracted by what may be politically incorrect. Even Kanye’s wife – Kim Kardashian – has provided some distance between herself and her mate on the POTUS Trump question. Hmmm…

But results matter.

Black, and Hispanic unemployment are at historic lows. And female unemployment is near a two-decade low.

One principle involved is this, and everyone’s heard it.  The popular definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things the same way, and expect a different result.  To H-E double LL with following that pattern any longer, within or beyond of MHVille.

From Presidents Clinton, both Bushes, or Obama, there have been some common – and flawed – stances. It was time for a new approach, based upon sound first principles.

First Principles

Curating principles from clear-thinkers like Thomas Sowell, we’ve promoted what will work for the vast majority of the industry and millions of our potential and actual customers.  We reject controversy for its own sake, but we do nut shun a controversial stance, if it is based upon reason and facts over emotion and rhetoric.

First principles matter. Principles like, G. K. Chesterton’s pithy, “What’s wrong is that we don’t ask what’s right.”  Or that the lessons of history, faith and reason matter. Of course they count.

Promises Made, Promises Kept

What may have seemed like madness two years ago in our campaign coverage and support is part of our pledge to carefully curate news topics that matter.  The manufactured home (MH) industry slid from a 1998 high of 372,000+ shipments to a low eleven years later of under 50,000 shipments.

MobileHomeShipmentsManufacturedHomeShipmentChartMHIAShipmentsMHIndustryChampionSkylineHUDCodeDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The last twenty years have included most of the worst years of MH industry performance, even though manufactured housing quality is widely seen as the best ever. Those facts clearly point to unresolved problems that must be addressed.

As an industry, manufactured home professionals and investors can’t afford to make more big mistakes.

The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) has time and again talked a great game.  But counting emails, Facebook likes, or waving their hands high with “razzle dazzle” doesn’t change how often they have factually gotten it wrong time and again.  If they were so right, why are shipments still so historically low?

Manufactured Housing Institute “Walk Out,” “Cover Up,” and Shock at their Vegas Event

Do you want positive results, or do you want style with no delivery?  Take your pick.

Prominent MHI leadership promoted Secretary Hillary Clinton over candidate Donald Trump. Clinton wanted heavy regulations, President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence promised – and are delivering – one prudent regulatory rollbacks.  There are more and more who see that’s a clear disconnect, how about you?

As the president and VP have both said, “Promises Made, Promises Kept.”  The Heritage Foundation score sounds high, but that organization said that the Trump Administration has already fulfilled over 60 percent of its campaign promises in just 15 months.  If Heritage is right, that means the less than 40 percent of those campaign promises are left to go.

  • GDP is rising
  • Unemployment is falling
  • Peace through strength is underway, and seems to be moving in a positive way by largely defeating ISIS in Syria and Iraq, and in tough stances and actions with North Korea. Is Iran next?  Time will tell.  But history reminds us that Nevil Chamberlin, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama’s efforts at appeasement have all failed. By contrast, Ronald Reagan’s peace through strength with the former USSR worked.  Appeasement or strength.  Take your pick.
  • Presidents Kennedy (D) and Reagan (R) cut taxes, and spurred the economy.  High taxes and sluggish growth, or lower taxes and more common sense regulations that yields more opportunities and jobs.  Take your pick.
  • There’s plenty of good, but there are also storm clouds. Too much automation, and robotics – notably by monopolistic companies – are destroying jobs.  Right now, more are being created than are being lost.  But if the monopolies aren’t broken up, then new business and new job creation will be stifled and will eventually stall out.

So the good work is underway, but the fight for a brighter future is far from over.

Winners and Losers

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) – which includes hundreds of manufactured housing businesses – and the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) have a much better track record that MHI on picking winning positions good for business and consumers alike.

Why?

Because they are operating under several proven “first principles.”

Among them?

  • Limited government,
  • with sound but limited regulation and
  • lower taxes will work better than;

heavy taxes, and heavy regulation both of which kills jobs, because it will drive businesses overseas. Giant Amazon just announced they are de facto working to force its will on Seattle on their latest tax to create housing proposal.  Monopolistic power forcing its will on a proven failure, another socialistic concept. It’s a classic case where both parties are wrong.

FristPrinciplesReasoningByAnalogyReasoningByFirstPrinciplesPinterestDailyBsuienssNewsMHProNews

A correct use

Dr. Carson praised the industry for building “amazing” homes, while blasting the regulatory regime under Pam Danner as “ridiculous.”

MHI’s EVP Lesli Gooch is quoted by the Washington Post as saying they did nothing about Pam Danner.  Proof once more that MHProNews was on the right path in our reports a year or more ago.  That’s not bragging, its a fact shared with an important point for manufactured housing professionals and investors in mind.

First principles matter. Investing the time to learn them, and apply them, and you’ll save years of wasted effort, and make more money, rather than let millions slip through your firms fingers.

Some of this may sound harsh to those who love MHI networking and mixers.  Sorry, but facts are what they are.

It’s not personal, its professional. It’s not a personal attack – that’s what our sources say that they do behind the scenes. Rather, what we do is analyze and critique, and give others a chance before or after to respond. There’s a difference.

Some – a minority – say they don’t want to read about concerns regarding monopolistic allegations, or who don’t want to read about weaponized MHI news delivered directly or through their surrogates. We understand that those are uncomfortable topics.  But when operations or third parties outside of MHVille – from across the political spectrum – point to the same problems and issues, why should we as trade publishers ignore it?

So as a first principles analogy, cancer is uncomfortable too, and sometimes the doctor has to tell the patient bad news. Hopefully, a troubling diagnosis is followed by a treatment plan that is proven to work.

Our site statistics prove that those ‘controversial stories’ about MHI and Berkshire Hathaway, et al, are at or near the top among the most read.

Speaking of site statistics, in case you missed it (ICYMI), check out the related report, linked below.  The third-party data proves that MHI is dropping, and MHProNews is growing.  Hint.  We’re winning.

Former WH Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon Blistered by President Trump, Manfort Suing DOJ; Impacts on Agenda, Nation?

January 3rd, 2018 Comments off

TrumpWPostBannonLostJobLostHisMindDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Let’s break the rule of news and analysis of hooking readers first, and then slowly giving out the key facts.

The Guardian’s report on excerpts from the upcoming book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff claim that generally pro-Trump, right-of-center Breitbart’s Steve Bannon’s called the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as “treasonous,” “sh-t,” and “unpatriotic.”  It’s salacious, and already being used by anti-Trumpers to once more derail his pro-growth agenda.

The White House has called the book, trashy tabloid fiction.

Stocks rose today, even in the wake of this bombshell and cross fire.

The Fire and Fury quotes are contradicted by prior Bannon quotes last year, that the Russia collusion is “a total farce.”  There’s more than enough conflicting claims between what the book teasers allege, and what some have previously said to cast doubts.

StatementPresidentUSPOTUSDonaldJTrumpTownhallDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But since the market’s today weren’t shaken, the majority of Americans – including Trump supporters – can rest easy.  Had this happened before the passage of the tax cuts and jobs bill?  That might have been a different story.

Celebration, Fact Check$, Plus Small Biz Nuts and Bolts on 2018 Tax Changes

Why Isn’t This a Bigger Deal?  The Details

For those who need a reminder, Democratic Harvard Law emeritus attorney, Alan Dershowitz, has said several times in 2017 that even if the allegations in so-called ‘Russia-gate’ were true, they would not be illegal.

The legal scholar has said, it would look bad, but isn’t illegal.

That’s why the ABC News’ Bryan Ross report – that was later retracted/corrected, and led to that reporter’s suspension – should never have roiled the markets in the first place.  ‘There is no there, there’ in so-called Russiagate, as the Daily Business News has reported for most of 2017.

DonaldJTrumpTweetSueABCOverBrianRossFalseReport

What may have there, there is Clinton campaign collusion with federal officials, a British intelligence operative, and Russians.

That doesn’t mean that the Muller team won’t attempt to use this saucy claim against the president’s son in the president’s tower.  Ditto Democrats, and the anti-Trump media.  Left of center CNN, CNBC and others are already on this issue, ‘big league.’

The official White House press briefing today on this topic, is below.

2017 Bi-Partisan Political Cartoons in Review (Note: Insightful, Satire, Tragic, Humor…)

Paul Manafort Strikes Back, Sues Mueller, DOJ

  • The actions of DOJ and Mr. Rosenstein in issuing the Appointment Order, and Mr. Mueller’s actions pursuant to the authority the Order granted him, were arbitrary, capricious, and not in accordance with the law,” the suit reads, per CNBC.
  • The actions of DOJ and Mr. Rosenstein in issuing the Appointment Order, and Mr. Mueller’s actions pursuant to the authority the Order granted him, were arbitrary, capricious, and not in accordance with the law,” the suit reads, the left-of-center outlet reported.

Paul Manafort, per left-of-center video report from Bloomberg.

Paul Manafort, from right of center, Fox Business.

Tainted?

Alan Dershowitz is among those who’ve cast doubts about the integrity of the Mueller investigation.

So while one can easily dispute left-of-center CBS’ claim that ‘Democrats and Republicans agree’ that special counsel Mueller is ‘beyond reproach,’ their video spotlights just one of several issues that have cast doubt about his objectivity and leanings.

Bottom Lines?

There are reasons to believe that this could linger for a time.  But based upon the initial reports, the non-reactions of the markets, and experts like Alan Dershowitz who’ve consistently said there is no there there on the ‘Russia-gate’ narrative, while inconvenient, this may not have much impact on the Trump agenda.

That said, stay tuned for developments on the administration’s ongoing efforts to free the economy for a more robust 2018. ## (News, analysis, commentary.)

Ladies – Love, Lunacy, Leadership, and those “Laddies”

December 23rd, 2017 Comments off

Ladies, you recall the following expression. The only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys.

Ladies, you know the time we gals invest in picking out the right outfit to ‘suit’ the occasion. In making sure that our hair, and makeup are just so.

You know that the men, the “laddies” in our lives, may do things out of love that may look to an outsider, a little…looney. But their ‘lunacy’ may be quiet, messy, leadership.

Christmas2017LadiesLoveLunacyLeadershipLaddiesPresidentFirstLadyDonaldJMelaniaTrumpDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

It may not be politically correct to say so, but as the video of the White House Christmas, and the VIce President’s Residence we posted last night, it was easy to reflect on this truth. There are decidedly feminine forms of leadership.

By the way, the First Lady outpolls her husband. 😉 Melania has been a model of class in a White House under constant fire since the 45th President, Donald J. Trump, took up residence.

These are examples of what lady and laddie leadership look like.

Ivanka

There are those that say that Ivanka is becoming quite the power player in D.C. Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, are successful in their own right.

They are also successful as family team players.

They are another pair of examples of what leadership looks like. The same could be said for the Trump sons, daughters, their families and all those whose team effort – last year and this – made “a big, beautiful Christmas gift” for Americans possible.

Presidential Leadership

Speaking as someone who earned her degree as an MD, its an understated medical fact. A woman and man fit together, and ideally complement each other.

It was as I studied medicine that all those medical marvels made me realize that humanity is too complex to be an accident. God is real, our Designer, and eternal. A freedom-loving Creator alone explains so much. So why have some tried for years to sideline God in society, business, ethics, or everyday speech?

It’s leadership by the President and First Family thats making Merry Christmascool, and proper to say again.

MerryChristmasPackageCardRibbonSoftLights2017DailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsPixabay

It’s also presidential leadership to take on a bold agenda, using politically incorrect methods.

The President of the United States (POTUS) has flown in the teeth of the messy resistance of his opponents, and has accomplished so much for “We, the People” in his first year in office.

Leadership isnt putting a finger in the air, and seeing which way the wind is blowing.

Leadership is setting sail with a great destination in mind, and not panicking when turbulent winds buck, billow, and blow.

We are living in an extraordinary time.

Giving Birth, Then and Now

Ladies, if youre a mom, you know that giving birth is typically a messy – but ever so beautiful – business.

Now we might ask why God, as Creator, made birth so messy, yet beautiful?

But it is so. It’s like opposites attracting, it’s just true.

JesusChristMaryJosephShepardsCowClassicPaintingPrintPixabayDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

The humble, and wise, princes and paupers, all still seek Him.

For about 2.5 billion people, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The King of the Universe, who came humbly into this world. That time in Bethlehem was a messy political and economic time, and a surprising way to bring heaven to earth.

It’s hard to say no to the outstretched arms of a humble, lovely, infant baby king.

We wish the President, Vice President Mike Pence, Dr. Ben Carson, the Trump Cabinet, their families, and amazing team a Merry Christmas.

Our son is much shorter than yours and Melania’s son, Mr. President. But our son Tamas leads our daily prayer, which includes a call for Presidential health, safety, Thanksgiving for the election victory, and much success for you and your cabinet on behalf of the American people.

The Trump Family are a fine example of what leadership under non-stop fire looks like. Collaborative, calm, cool, and classy.

WhiteHouseNationalChristmasTree2017DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

What Leadership Looks Like

Leadership is keeping promises.

Leadership is not letting opinion polls slow or cower you.

Leadership is speaking often unpopular realities, doing the unexpected, all to accomplish as much and as rapidly a bold agenda as one can. Then to wake up, and go back into battle to make the moves and deals needed to keep the progress coming.

It was obvious to tens of millions of us that the business man as president would be a fine leader. That he could shake up the rigged system. One who would show us as Americans what winning looks like again. What honest, if messy, work looks like.  The president’s humor pops up at the very start of the prayer from Dr. Ben Carson, in the video below.

Our industry and nation has a need for more leadership like yours, Mr. President, First Families, and HUD Secretary Carson.

Personal

Ladies, some of you have a husband thats not quite as meticulous about appearances as you are.

Ladies, some of you have a man that may get dirty doing his work, or whose work causes him to fly into the face of terrific odds, not unlike the president has. Some are from that never, ever, quit mentality that made America the greatest nation on earth.

If so, recall what everyday leadership looks like.

Honest, sound leadership can take surprising forms from unlikely people.

God plays no favorites. The Creator loves us all.

But some take their God-given talents and use them as best as they can, in ways that are often – like birth – messy looking.

American greatness is being reborn. The incentives to tap our unique talents are being revived. Of course, it’s messy!

That persistent, and to many surprising, theme of God and Country are part of this First Familys example to the rest of us.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6 (Bible Hub)
