MH Sales, Marketing, Management Life Lesson – Plan A, Plan B

November 5th, 2018 No comments

MHSalesMarkjetingManagementLifeLessonPlanAPlanBManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Imagine the following, because the odds are good that it has already happened to you and your business.

Let’s presume for the next few minutes that you are an ethical person, working in an honest business.

Based on that, do you have to have a perfect product or service in order to sell it?

Of course not. If perfection was the standard, there would be NO business. “Excellence” was Apple founder Steve Jobs’ standard.

Coach Lou Holtz standard was doing good, following the principles of the millennia-ageless “golden rule.”

We tell professionals in columns and our clients “don’t over promise, don’t under deliver.”

We did and do that in our MH businesses.

We do that in our publishing work too. Our website isn’t perfect, this writer isn’t perfect, but thousands of manufactured and factory-built housing professionals like yourself will logon today to see something good enough to read, consider, and perhaps do themselves. By the way, thank you, and know that serving you and thousands of others is a responsibility we don’t take lightly.

Back to the headline point, the life lesson that impacts your business or professional routinely. What if someone smeared you personally, and/or smeared your operation.  What would you do?

Before answering the question, let’s clarify the topic.

What is or isn’t “a smear?

The dictionary says that “smear” in this context means: “damage the reputation of [someone, some organization] by false accusations; slander.”

So, a smear is a false accusation, designed to disparage someone or some operation’s reputation.

There are some who confuse a true or evidenced based concern with a smear.  But spotlighting a legitimate issue isn’t a smear at all. A smear is a lie designed to make you or your organization look bad.  If something isn’t a lie, it isn’t a smear.

That clarified, based upon our experiences in MHVille, smears happen routinely. They happen to us, they happen to others.

Before we get into specific smears, let’s make a brief, but related point.  In a very real sense, Manufactured Housing as an industry has been smeared.

So as a professional or business, there must be a strategy to deal with the reality of smears.

I’m writing this on an iPad. That iPad or my iPhone does automatic word completion. It’s a useful feature.  Odds are good you have a smart phone with a similar feature.  Have you ever had an automatic word turn out to be the wrong word? Or have you thought you typed one thing, and autocompletion or autocorrection was wrong?

It happens all the time, right?

It is an example of a good product, that isn’t perfect product. Yet millions of smart phones of all brands have a similar feature.

You have a manufactured home for sale. It isn’t perfect. It’s not the Taj Mahal. But it doesn’t have to be perfect! It only has to do the job it is supposed to do. I’ve personally sold as many as 15 homes in a month – closed, delivered, and funded – with double digits in the month before and after.  This isn’t theory.  We talk facts, experience, and reality here.

The point is simple yet profoundly important to you, your business or location(s).

Solution to Smears?

So long as you don’t over promise, or under deliver, part of the solution to smears are the following:

  • You have to continue to be who you authentically are, honest, responsible, delivering on every promise. Just HONESTLY showing up, day after day, doing the right work with the right words, will over time prove to discerning people that the smear isn’t true.
  • One has to be willing to defend the truth. That’s the truth of our industry, and the truth about you, your firm, your product or service. If your firm is a client of our business development services division, you already know how we do that, successfully. If you want coaching on this and you are the boss, send that message, or pick up that phone and call the number below. If you’re not the boss, then talk to your boss, or send that person this article.
  • The Truth Well Told is Powerful, and NECESSARY. The truth well told is HUGE in debunking a smear.

We’ve paid attention to some companies and associations that have spent sometimes large sums of money with others (and I’m not knocking the others).  A year goes by.  Two years.  What actually changed for those firms or states? If there was only modest growth, was that growth any different than the growth rate of the industry at large?

ManufacturedHomeMHShipments1990-2017DailybusinessNewsManufacturedHousingMHProNews600

We show charts like the one above for good reasons. Thousands of manufactured home industry professionals have not experienced shipment levels 3, 4, or 5 or more times greater than they are today.

A Very Public Example of Beating The Smear

Closing on a very public example, which may sound political, but is in fact an amazingly powerful public example of the smear. Why is President Donald J. Trump controversial?  He’s accused of all sorts of things.  Where is the evidence, beyond the smear?  The Mueller probe has gone mostly quiet.  Many of the attorneys who worked for special counsel Robert Mueller have left.  Everything has leaked out or was made public.

If there was a case against the 45th president, the whole world would know it.  Instead, there is this drum beat of racist, and other slurs – the smear – even though there were no such allegations about this same man before he started to run for the White House.  This president is an amazing example of how to deal with the smear.

  • Book after book came out that tried to paint the president as the devil’s own brother.
  • Third-party research shows that 92 percent of mainstream media coverage of the president is negative.
  • Yet, at this point in his presidency, after years of “the smear,” the president’s approval rating is higher than President Barack Obama at this same point in the two’s presidencies. Yet, former President Obama had an often fawning media.

The point? How did President Trump accomplish what he has, in the face of an onslaught of attacks and smears?

  1. A) POTUS Trump pushes back. He often points out the hypocrisy of the allegations, or shows how they contradict the facts.
  2. B) POTUS Trump rallies and communicates with his base. He tweets. He holds rallies. He is communicating daily to his supporters, and his support has grown.
  3. C) POTUS Trump educates. Have you watched more than one of his rallies?  Have you watched one from start to finish, not just the 30 or 60 second sound bite on the evening news? The president is informing his base.  He is telling them what he promised, and what they’ve done. He uses facts and figures. Sure, he tries to make it entertaining and engaging. Millions love it.

If you hate, love or are somewhere in the middle on the president, you’re getting a life lesson that is absolutely priceless. Pushback against the smear, and showing up and doing your job well are huge.

By this time Wednesday, the odds are excellent that the results of the midterms will be known. But you and we have to get up and go back to work, regardless of the outcome. Whatever the outcome, President Trump will go back to work too.  Ditto folks like you or we too.

One of the president’s slogans is so smart. “Promises Made, Promises Kept.” That works in business. It works in business and life too.

How do you beat the smear?

Frankly, some may never believe the truth. Some will accept the smear.

But if you do the right things, in the right ways, over time, it can be used to benefit you and your business. It’s not easy, but it is doable.  The most obvious example is the 45th President.

Finally, you have to think long-term.  You have to plan your career and your location(s) like you are going to do this, and only this, for the next several decades.  Long-term thinking and “promises made, promises kept” has huge long-term benefits.

“Girls of Steel,” 3 Untold Stories of Job Creation, Growing Opportunities for MHVille

November 1st, 2018 Comments off
GirlsOfSteel3UntoldStoriesJobcreationMIllionsNewOpportunitiesMHVilleWhiteHouseDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Composite of stills from video posted further below.

These three stories of actual Americans are the ones that don’t normally make the evening news.

These three stories in the video below are ones that can make a significant difference to all housing professionals, but particularly to manufactured home professionals.

We’ll set aside for the next few moments the question of why these stories aren’t headline news on all major networks, that can be better understood in some of the related reports, linked further below.

But for the next few minutes, consider some facts that the Daily Business News on MHProNews alone consistently reported in MHVille.

There are stories of significant-to-huge opportunities, when one listens carefully to all the details to discussions on existing laws, and current policies.  This is not pie in the sky, someday, maybe – but current realities, under this new administration.

In the video below, for example, we hear that there are already 3,900 Opportunity Zones between the 50 states.  Odds are good that one or more are near you and your business.

This jobs initiative that Ivanka Trump, Larry Kudlow, three “working class” people on this video and President Donald J. Trump discuss is reality.  This jobs private sector via White House leadership initiative isn’t a theory, it’s a reality.

Are You Connected to or Invested in the Sales of Manufactured Homes?

If you are in any way connected to the sales of manufactured homes, this video and report are important news for you.

Why?

Because typically someone on unemployment, or some other form of welfare or public assistance have a difficult time qualifying for the purchase of housing.

There are systemic problems that the federal government has failed to properly address for over 15 years.  Bipartisan efforts in the mid-1990s gave the U.S. a balanced budget, and a surplus.  It was one of the crowning achievements of the otherwise partisan rancor of the President Bill Clinton(D)-Speaker Newt Gingrich (GA-R) era.

It was also during that era that the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act was passed. There was bipartisan efforts between Democrats and Republicans.  There was also a reach-across-the-aisle between the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), and key business and state association leadership. That topic will be studied in the near term, perhaps after the midterms.  So now, let’s turn back to the White House press release on jobs that follows.

Over 100 companies have committed to this job creating program.

The first roughly 15 minutes of this White House video includes all three of the workers in the featured image, shown at the top.  The “Girls of Steel” is just one of several initiative programs that have launched with no, zero, zippo taxpayer cost.

Keep in mind that more people working, means less money spent on public assistance programs for the unemployed or those in poverty.  Programs like the enterprise zones and initiatives like those discussed will create more jobs, so there will be less unemployed. Last night’s jobs numbers reflects a trend that if properly understood, addresses one of several long-term systemic problems that has gone unaddressed for too many years.  ICYMI, see last night’s report, later for more details.

Who Gets Credit? Latest National Data, Including Wages, Salary Jump Decade’s High-VIDEOS, Plus MH Market Updates

If you:

  • listen and watch the working man and the two women in this video,
  • have a mind and a heart,
  • you will be moved, and impressed.

The White House is using the bully pulpit – plus good policies – to engage businesses in ways that are creating literally millions of job opportunities.

Some may have heard a sound bite on a network where President Trump’s economic adviser, Larry Kudlow says that “This is the blue-collar, middle-class Trump Economy.” That part of the discussion starts at about 16 minutes, and runs to about the 17.30 mark.

Frankly, almost every minute of this is packed with information that is useful, will be surprising to some, and will be eye-opening, practical, and even inspiring to others.

The president has some powerful points, but we will mention only one, before sharing the White House’s full press release to the Daily Business News.

We were letting our country go to hell,” said President Trump under both parties, “…in so many ways, and we can’t do that” any more going forward.

If an open minded, but anti-Trump person watches and reads this, it will at a minimum cause that person to sit back and ask, how could this not be front page news?  How could announcements like this one below not be a lead story on evening newscasts?

The White House statement to MHProNews follows.  Feel free to fact check it, to convince yourself or others, because we don’t publish information on MHProNews that we deem to be inaccurate. The Oval Office statement will be followed by some closing thoughts.

‘This is the blue-collar, middle-class Trump Economy’

As Larry Kudlow sat with President Donald J. Trump and Ivanka Trump in the White House State Dining Room, he revealed a telling fact about the new American economy under the Trump Administration.

“We are looking at blue-collar wage increases [that] are rising faster than white-collars,” said Kudlow, Director of President Trump’s National Economic Council. “Now, I’m not against white collars, but I’m saying this is the blue-collar, middle-class Trump Economy”—one where manufacturing and other industries that fuel prosperity in America’s heartland are thriving once again.

In the past, that wasn’t always the case. Too often, economic growth would concentrate in the hands of a wealthy few rather than lift up all American workers.

Just over three months ago, President Trump made it clear that his Administration wouldn’t let that happen during this economic boom. In July, he unveiled his Pledge to America’s Workers, calling on private companies and associations to expand programs that educate, train, and reskill Americans from high-school age to near-retirement.

Ivanka Trump has helped lead the charge, traveling to more than 14 states to visit job centers and technical education programs across America. She was also instrumental in helping shepherd the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act through Congress this summer, marking the program’s first modernization in more than a decade. Perkins CTE authorizes more than $1 billion in vocational and career-focused education funding for more than 11 million American students.

Since July, more than 160 companies have answered the President’s call to invest in career-development opportunities for our workforce. This summer, Walmart pledged 1,000,000 such opportunities. IBM pledged 100,000. FedEx pledged more than 500,000. And today, President Trump announced that the total number of commitments under the Pledge now exceeds 6 million in just over 3 months.

“The previous Administration said there won’t be any more manufacturing jobs—you’re going to need a magic wand and all of that,” President Trump said today. “Well, we had the magic wand, because we have almost 600,000 manufacturing jobs since the election. And it’s going to go much, much higher than that.”

Answering the pledge: More than 6 MILLION opportunities committed

The other thing that hasn’t been seen much in the mainstream news coverage about this administration compared to prior ones are stories like the one below  The White House held a Halloween event.  An unbiased media would normally cover such matters, so why is so little of it taking place during this administration?

Closing Thoughts on the Meaning for MHVille of this News Item

The following is a comment from a widely known personality in MHVille, who has deep ties to MHI. It’s important food for thought.

The news today has a real illness.  There’s few facts printed.  Mostly what you see is opinion sanctimoniously delivered as fact.  Most of our national media produce stories designed to solicit a response of being appalled by someone’s or some group’s behavior.  With many, mostly on the Left, you can’t even have a civil discussion about a topic.  People likely agree more on certain topics than they do on ultimately conclusions.  For example, are you for reasonable fiscal management?  Most would say yes, but then many would vote for a politician promising unsustainable spending.” – from a mid-sized company owner, only one typo was corrected, the rest is verbatim.

The first video above near the end addressed the issue of spending, after the length discussion of jobs.  There are so many problems that faced the U.S.A., it is difficult to describe them all, but for the moment, let’s say foreign and domestic policy alike were suffering for decades.

Some conservative Republicans feared President Trump, thinking he was liberal, and not a real conservative. Democrats feared him, because they thought he could bridge the gaps between the GOP and some of the groups that Democrats depend upon, like labor and minorities.  Both were right, and wrong.

LawrenceYunNARShort8.3MillionHousingUnitsRisingRentsHousingPricesCuredOnlyByMoreBuilding

Yun and the NAR have pointed out the need for more construction, and underscored the reality of modern manufactured homes.  Why are so few in media picking up that compelling news story?  Collage by MHProNews.

It’s nonsense to say that President Trump is racist, or other similar and numerous slanderous allegations tossed his way.  Repeating a falsehood doesn’t make it true.  There are too many examples of African Americans, Latinos and other minorities that have known the president for years.  They don’t think he’s a racist. So why do such claims persist?

The Daily Business News pivoted from doing ‘straight’ news to doing news and commentary, that’s the responsible and candid thing to do. Each story is labeled as news, analysis, and commentary. That’s the proper disclosure, that much of the mainstream media lacks.

The related reports below indicate in depth how media could be so weaponized, but it could be boiled down to human nature and money.  Those talking heads are paid to say things.  Actors and actresses read lines, and that describes much – though not all – of the mainstream media.

Stifel Investments

Stifel Investments today tied violate stocks to the midterms.

Former CBS News award winner Sharyl Attkisson went independent, because during the Obama era she tried to report on stories that the network would not dive into. She talks about “the smear,” how the media can use character assassination, spin, mislead or false information.

Not every mainstream media story is ‘fake news.’  But some are. Often, what occurs is a mix of accurate information that may be taken out of context and weaponized.

That reminds us of what Brad Lovin said about how the media treats manufactured housing.

The industry has good reasons to vote for candidate that support this president. It makes no sense to vote for candidates that will support the agenda that is creating more jobs, lowering taxes and regulations, and bringing back hundreds of billions of dollars into the U.S.

In less than 2 years, there’s been substantial progress. But the supporters of ‘the left’ fear that measurable progress.  Many policies they believe in have been proven to be false, in less than 2 years.  Manufacturing and other jobs are returning. Wages – it was reported yesterday – are rising at the fastest pace in a decade.

It’s about the return to common sense.

2 years ago, MHProNews projected – based upon a close reading of mainstream polling – how then candidate Trump could win.  The same is true for the midterms. Our publisher has deliberately allowed numerous pollsters to go through their full spiel during this election cycle. “Many polls are subtly designed to push a respondent in a specific direction. After over a dozen polls, some pollsters will hang up, if you give them the ‘wrong’ answer.  Many of these polls are designed to manipulate opinions, not survey them,” said L. A. ‘Tony’ Kovach.

In Florida and several other states, voting by party registration shows Republican ballots are ahead by thousands of votes.  A one of those independent voters, we’re encouraging industry professionals to use their common sense, and avoid emotional and other manipulation.

Manufactured housing professionals should – more than many other professions – recognize that news gets spun, because that has happened to our industry for years.

PublishingHandPickedInformationCanBeWorsefortheImpressionItMakesOnManufacturedHomesandOurIndustryThanStatingEntirelyFalseInfo-BradLovinNCMHA

Elections come down each and every time to turn out and actual votes.  The House is harder to measure, but as many as 10 seats in the Senate could be Republican pickups once balloting next Tuesday, November 6 is complete. That’s what we see, based on numerous indicators we track.  In the House, it could go Democratic by a few seats.  But it could also be a hold of the majority — or even a pickup of a few GOP seats.

We wise. Be informed. Vote for more opportunities and proven results. See the related reports, further below. That’s “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use,” © where “We Provide, You Decide.”  © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

MarketWatch Reports Warren Buffett’s Midterm Campaign Contributions

October 19th, 2018 Comments off

WarrenBuffettKevinClaytonPhotosClaytonHomesBerkshireHathawayBuffettCampaigncontributionsReuterMHProNews

According to research published by MarketWatch, Warren Buffett, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has given 100% of his campaign contributions to Democrats during the 2016 election cycle.  Berkshire has numerous manufactured housing brands, such as Clayton Homes.

Company executives often steer clear of any appearance of partisanship, in large part because they don’t want to alienate customers and investors who back the other side,” said MarketWatch.

WarrenBuffettMarketWatchGivingIn2018CampaignDemocrats

About 100 CEOs whose companies are components of the S&P 500 have been willing to fly a markedly Democratic or Republican flag in their political giving as individuals during the current election cycle,” said that source.

Because of so-called ‘dark money,’ interlocking directorates, and the like, it can be difficult to ‘follow the money’ when it all of the donations that flows from wealthy individuals, and finds their way into campaigns or activist causes.

DarkMoneyDefinedYourDicitionaryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Contrary to what MarketWatch said, Buffett’s political leanings has been rather open for years.  He was a strong supporter of Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton campaigns too. He denounced Donald J. Trump in several campaign events with Secretary Clinton, but toned it down after Mr. Trump became the president elect.

Jim Clayton, founder of Clayton Homes and Clayton Bank, is among those in MHVille who like Buffett, have deep ties or sway over the Manufactured Housing Institute MHI, who are supporting Democratic Senate and other candidates.

“He’s Lying,” Campaign Insider Video – “Don’t Do Politics?” Tell Jim Clayton, Phil Bredesen, and Marsha Blackburn, Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act Supporter

Andy Barr has been called a champion of the industry, and Marsha Blackburn supported MHI’s bills too.  So why were these loyalists apparently betrayed by MHI’s power players? By contrast, President Trump has specifically supported these candidates.  Note that it was POTUS Trump, not then President Obama who signed S 2155, that gave manufactured housing some regulatory relief.  And note too that it was former POTUS Obama, that put Dodd-Frank and the CFPB on the necks of manufactured housing, when realtors and the RV business escaped similar challenges.

Was Manufactured Housing Advocate Congressman Andy Barr Backstabbed?

Note that MHProNews editorially acknowledges the right of any citizen to use their money in any lawful or moral manner. But part of the concerns being spotlighted here is the industry professionals are being told that MHI is supporting lower regulations.  In fact, in various key races, there has been support for those who would vote for higher regulations, or roll backs of tax cuts, or other anti-growth agenda items championed by President Trump.

Rephrased, aren’t MHI’s big money players being duplicitous?  Didn’t Tim Williams say that the biggest threat to the industry was the progressive agenda that Jim Clayton, Warren Buffett, Nathan Smith and others are supporting?

HUD Secretary Carson Visits North Carolina, POTUS to FL, Survey Hurricane Damage, Response Efforts, Federal Funds

On Monday, Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), joined Alex Acosta, Secretary of the Department of Labor , Senator Richard Burr (NC), Senator Thom Tillis (NC), and Congressman David Rouzer (NC-7) in North Carolina to visit areas impacted by Hurricane Florence,” said HUD in a statement to the Daily Business News on MHProNews.

After touring damaged areas, Secretary Carson, Secretary Acosta, Governor Roy Cooper, Congressman David Price (NC-4) and Congressman G.K. Butterfield (NC-1)  received a briefing on the recovery efforts at FEMA’s Joint Field Office,” the federal spokesperson stated.

We work for the people, the people don’t work for us,” Secretary Carson explained. “The best way to actually work for the people is to see what the people are doing, to hear from the people themselves.”

Carson subsequently was interviewed by One America Network News (OANN). Emerald Robinson spoke with HUD Secretary Ben Carson to discuss the department’s work with FEMA, federal loans, and other coordination efforts.

Meanwhile, President Donald J. Trump, the first lady Melania, and GOP Senate hopeful Governor Rick Scott visited Mexico Beach, Florida to tour the devastation left behind by Hurricane Michael.

HUD previously sent a statement to MHProNews that includes potential opportunities for manufactured and modular housing professionals in the wake of Michael, and/or other disasters, such as Florence.

FEC filings and manufactured home (MH) industry sources are telling the Daily Business News on MHProNews that one of the big MH community operators is a large supporter of the campaign of U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI-D).

While it is public record, that community operation’s name will be revealed later, as other industry ties to Stabenow are being explored.  Rephrased, expect more than one tie-in, if sources are correct.

Focused MHProNews readers may recall that Kid Rock, a.k.a. Robert Ritchie, feigned a campaign run for the Stabenow U.S. Senate seat last year. He did so under the cover of a voter registration drive. A Daily Business News report last year is packed with more videos, hilarity, and edgy political insights.

Long-time readers here may recall that in 2016, the Daily Business News reported on the wide support among manufactured home industry professionals of candidate Trump. The margin between manufactured home residents favored Trump too, but by as big a margin as professionals.

Editorially, we backed the candidate in the spring of 2016, in an article that was later posted on Donald J. Trump campaign

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

As discerning manufactured home professional readers of the Daily Business News are discovering, MHI ‘big boy’ backers and their political allies are funding candidates in several key races. See the latest link below. But ICYMI, see the related reports after this writer’s by line.

With the “Kanye effect” – President Trump’s support among blacks and minorities have been steadily rising.  It is now near or at historic highs in the modern era.  It is always all about turnout at the polls. But if that trend holds, it spells the opposite of what many mainstream media pundits suggest is a coming blue wave.

Risk Taking! Kanye West, Jim Brown, POTUS Trump Oval Office Meeting, Plus MH Market Updates

More likely – again, based upon turnout to vote – is a red wave.  Even mainstream media polling shows the shift toward GOP candidates.

The so-called ‘big boys’ in manufactured housing are often, but not always, lining up with the Democrats.  7 of the top 10 U.S. billionaires are supporting Democrats.  The Koch brothers, who are often touted by Democrats as the big donors for the GOP, are not siding with the President Trump on immigration, a top issue for the president and his base.  ICYMI, or need a refresher, see the related report, linked below.

Danny Glover, Presidents Barack Obama & Donald Trump, Promises Kept, and Affordable Manufactured Housing

The bottom line on this topic for now is this.  Unscientific indicators – people who tell MHProNews how they intend to vote – are strongly leaning toward the Trump agenda and the GOP candidates he supports. By contrast, some of the bigger names in the industry are financially supporting heavy regulation Democrats.

Was Manufactured Housing Advocate Congressman Andy Barr Backstabbed?

The good news is that 2016 proved that voters can trump – pardon the pun – the Democratic donor class. These are details that no one else in MHVille are bringing to you – and in some cases, per MHI sources – contradict information that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) has been telling their members.

Midterms and Evangelicals? What’s the Latest Polling, Feedback?

August 31st, 2018 Comments off

MidtermsEvangelicalsWhatsLatestPollingFeedbackDailyBusienssNewsMHproNews

Depending on the radio stations you listen to, or what cable news someone watches, the media coverage of the Trump administration has routinely been withering.

With the midterms about 10 weeks out, and early voting starting sooner than that, what has the seemingly incessant onslaught of salacious reports done to evangelical support of President Donald J. Trump?

Donald Trump is not a perfect Christian, said Pastor Robert Jeffress in the video interview posted below. But the evangelical pastor stresses these are still unproven allegations, and regardless, he and one pastor after another find the president’s policies to be excellent. Jeffress also says that he still preaches every Sunday against the kinds of sins that the president is accused of committing.

Evangelicals – along with blue collar workers, small businesses, and others – will be a key part of the alliance necessary for the GOP to hold the U.S. House and expand their seats in the Senate in the upcoming midterms. The video is also insightful for professionals trying to get a sense of a meeting with evangelicals that got very little mainstream coverage. ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Duty To Serve, “Complete Waste of Time” per Tim Williams, CEO/21st Mortgage; POTUS Trump, Warren Buffett Insight$

December 19th, 2017 Comments off

TimWilliams21stMortgageBerkshireHathawayClaytonHomesManufacturedHousingInstituteMHIDutyToServeFannieMaeFreddieMacLogosThe 45th President of the United States (POTUS), Donald J. Trump, and Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett have very differing political views. But there is an area of agreement that yields a valuable takeaway for any manufactured home professional to grasp, and adopt.

Warren Buffett invests the time, and learns what to do – and avoid – by reading.

That investment by Buffett in the time to study, and then makes informed decisions, are one of his ‘secrets’ of success.

That studious reflection, says Buffett, reduces his risks, and increases his odds of success.

Similarly, President Trump has said that it pays to know as much as you can about something that impacts you, your life, and profession.

IfSomethingIsGoingToAffectYourLifeItsBestToKnowAsMuchasYouCanAboutItDonaldTrumpMHProNews800

Those bookend principles from POTUS Trump and Buffett were noted in the Daily Business News post, linked below.

Monday Morning Sales Meeting, What Warren Buffett & President Donald Trump Profitably Agree On

Buffett, who’s Berkshire Hathaway (BH) units include major players in manufactured housing, stresses the value of history too.

Historical knowledge and understanding, properly applied, are among the key elements – the fundamentals – which yesterday took the shares of Buffett-led BH to its record high of $300,000 each.

Buffett, Baseball, Berkshire 55 Years Ago Today, Plus MH Markets Update$

Trump & Buffett Principles Applied to Manufactured Housing News, Insight$

Those principles of reading, understanding, and then acting accordingly should be routinely applied to the words and deeds in the manufactured home (MH) industry.

WarrenBuffettMostImportantHabitReadingReadMajorityofSuccessfulPeopleRead30MinutesDailyTimeMoneyDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

That obviously includes the influential, and potent prior Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Chairman, Tim Williams.

Williams – as many industry professionals and investors know – is the president and CEO of 21st Mortgage Corp, a Berkshire Hathaway unit, and sister company to Clayton Homes, and Vanderbilt Mortgage.

In 2009, Berkshire Hathaway’s 21st Mortgage Corp President and CEO, Tim Williams urged the industry to contact their Congressional representatives to seek financing relief for manufactured housing.

So stated a document signed by Williams, that was obtained by MHProNews. That 21st document from Williams, provided to the Daily Business News as a tip from a reader, is found as part of a related report, linked from the graphic below.

In 2013, in an exclusive interview with MHProNews, Williams said that pursing the Duty to Serve was a “complete waste of time.”

TimWilliams21stMortgageCorpThenManufacturedHousingInstituteMHIChairmanMHProNewsWhat follows is the full text – and thus the context – for Williams’ reply on DTS, with the entire interview linked here.

I think it is a total waste of time to talk about DTS until Congress reaches a consensus on the GSEs. Will the GSEs exist as we know them? What will be their mission? I think it is a million to one shot that the FHFA and either of the GSEs agree to finance chattel manufactured homes while the larger issues remain unresolved,” Williams said.

Williams would especially be correct in his “a million to one shot” observation, if:

  • the Berkshire-Hathaway (BH) owned manufactured housing lending units fail to give the GSE’s the data that they said the Enterprises need,
  • in order to intelligently enter the MH personal property (chattel, home only) lending arena in a meaningful way.

In other words, if you stack the deck against the GSEs doing something substantive, the odds could indeed go to “a million to one,” observes our publisher.

Disconnects?  Contradictions?

In San Antonio, TX, in a 2017 meeting with a few dozen industry professionals that that are members of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) in the room, Williams stated that 21st had not turned over data requested by the Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs).

So, while a few dozen industry professionals in that room may have heard that statement by Williams – who was then MHI’s chairman – there are thousands of MH professionals who were obviously not present.

Depending on how many read-and-trust only MHI messages – they might have a completely different impression than what Williams said in that meeting room.  After all, MHI claims via their messages, such as those attributed to Leslie Gooch, Ph.D.,  to be working to promote DTS.

The GSEs – or Enterprises – of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, citing a lack of data as a reason, is only lightly putting its toes into the MH industry’s chattel lending markets, as part of a plan published by the Federal Housing Finance Administration (FHFA), linked below.

FHFA Publishes Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s Underserved Markets Plans for Duty to Serve (DTS) Program

Contradicting BH, MHI Claims?

On the one hand, there are apparently contradictory positions between actions, and statements made freely by Williams, and by the Berkshire Hathaway dominated Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), as noted above.

There are also the previously quoted principles of BH Chairman, Warren Buffett.

WarrenBuffettQuotesPeverseEasyThingsDifficultChainsHabitLearnFromHistoryPeopleDontLearnFromHistoryManufacturedHousingMHI-MHProNews-768x342

To rephrase, Buffett – who is a long term player – has stated he believes most don’t pay attention to the lessons of history. The chains of habit (for others?!) are thus an opportunity for his business units, if – and only if – enough others fail to learn from history, and fail to break free of their chains of habit.

“Perverse”–Warren Buffett-Dodd-Frank, CFPB, Manufactured Housing, Loans, Independent Businesses Fact Check$

On the one hand, Mr. Buffett publicly supported Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama before her.  Obama, Clinton, and Buffett all voiced support and/or acted in favor of Dodd-Frank.

So on the other hand, Williams and company at MHI have been pushing the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housingact, even though it seemingly put Williams at odds with Buffett on Dodd-Frank.

It also puts Richard “Dick” Jennison, Lesli Gooch (Ph.D.) at odds with the former MHI VP, who correctly predicted that with President Obama re-elected, it was unlikely that MHI could pass Preserving Access.

Manufactured Housing Institute VP Revealed Important Truths on MHI’s Lobbying, Agenda

Any industry member, investor, or researcher who invests the time – which POTUS Trump, or Buffett’s advice would require – will discover so many disconnects between what is said by Berkshire Hathaway led MHI, and what look to be clear contradictions made by senior staff and/or their executive committee member(s).

No Wonder MHI Ducks Media…

No wonder MHI SVP Rick Robison, refused to take questions from MHProNews, in an verbal admission made in front of dozens of industry members.  How could he intelligently defend the national trade association, when there are so many obvious contradictions and inexplicable behaviors?

People often tend to give those that we know the benefit of the doubt, until proven otherwise,” said L. A. “Tony” Kovach, consultant and publisher of MHLivingNews and MHProNews.

Tim [Williams] is an intelligent, successful, driven professional. Jim Clayton sang Tim’s praises. Most would say, Tim’s a likeable gent. So, is it any wonder that it may be hard to imagine that Tim Williams – or Berkshire Hathaway’s Clayton Homes, Vanderbilt, or their affable billionaire, Warren Buffett – are all to various degrees initially trusted?” Kovach asked.

But there comes a time when one must look at the patterns of verbal claims, the actions that follow, and the outcomes, and then ask the deeper questions,” Kovach said, adding, “That’s where Marty Lavin’s rules must be applied.”

At the San Antonio MHI meeting, Dick Jennison and Lesli Gooch repeatedly made thinly veiled statements, aimed at MHProNews. But when these signs were first introduced, top MHI staff claimed it was aimed at ‘outside’ media, not ‘industry media.’ What caused this change toward a dues paying association member? What message does it send to others in their association? What message does it send to the industry at large? Is MHI trying to create a de facto industry trade media monopoly?

Let’s recap,” said Kovach, “with these bullets.  It could serve as an executive summary.

  • First, Williams says in 2009, ask your Congressmen to get the GSEs involved.
  • Later, Williams says in 2013, it’s a waste of time pursing chattel lending by the GSEs.
  • Then, when the pressure from MHARR and others – including MHI members – for getting the GSEs into the chattel lending space grows, MHI pivots and says it is promoting the Duty to Serve (DTS) by the Enterprises.
  • But how can MHI effectively promote the DTS if Williams and Vanderbilt won’t turn over the data that other manufactured home lenders freely provided?
  • The bottom line is akin to the old Zig Ziglar yarn about tell the fireplace to give you heat, and once it gives the heat, then you’ll give the fireplace wood.’ Williams, VMF, and Berkshire Hathaway surely all knew that not giving that [loan performance] data would slow down the DTS process with the GSEs. How could intelligent, analytical, independent-minded professional think differently?”

WhenYouHaveEliminatedTheImpossibleWhateverRemainsHoweverImprobableMustBeTheTruthSHerlockHolmesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

There comes a time when it is necessary to admit the obvious; that one has been misled, taken in, or whatever allegation and terminology one feels comfortable saying,” Kovach opined.

“Winning!” The Power of Pushback, Lessons for the MH Industry

PushBack!BookCoverStandAgainstGroupThinkAgitatorsProfessionalManipulatorsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews547x368

What is taking place in Washington D.C. and the nation are all parts of a puzzle. To get the complete picture, one must look at every aspect of the puzzle, or there will a lack of clarity as to why tax reform, health care, regulatory reform, or others issues that impact Manufactured Housing Industry, current and potential home owners are stuck in the D.C. swamp.

Jennifer Harper’s thoughtful column “This Is What Pushing Back Looks Likein the Washington Times brought this recent Rush Limbaugh quote below to the attention of the Daily Business News.

Limbaugh’s site reflected the transcript of what Harper referenced in his recent radio show.

The talk-radio celebrity spoke about Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen’s widely reported walk-out after several players ‘took a knee’ during the Pledge of Allegiance at the Colts-49 Sunday game – as follows.

First the Scenario and Example, Then the MH Industry Takeaway

“…This is what the left not getting away with setting the narrative and determining who can and who can’t say anything… This is what it looks like. This is what it looks like when you push back against it. You may find it uncomfortable. You people think… You may buy into this notion, “Gee, I wish the vice president hadn’t gone in there and hijacked the Peyton Manning statue unveiling.”

The So-Called ‘Culture War’ is Something More…

In “Never Let a Serious Crisis Go To Waste,” MHProNews outlined some of the ways that Saul Alinsky’s modern disciples think and behave.  That report quotes Alinsky and his modern followers, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Secretary Hillary Clinton and 44th President Barack Obama.

That Alinsky “playbook” has been fairly effectively used by progressives for decades. Those who seek to limit government’s intrusions and overreaches thus need to learn that playbook, and how to pushback against it.

Notice. One can agree with 21st Mortgage President, CEO and prior MHI Chairman Tim Williams’ presentation – from which the slide above was taken with permission – while still questioning how it came to be that Williams was being intellectually at odds with Berkshire Hathaway Chairman, Warren Buffett. To see all of William’s informative slides, click the graphic above.

But with President Trump, and VP Mike Pence, they are taking their oppositions’ narratives head-on.

That push back, has some pundits saying that the president is winning” on this issue.  That in turn could energize his base, and help move his agenda forward against “the swamp” of Washington, D.C.

Well, Pence and Trump are not taking it anymore, and this is what it looks like. For decades now, we have become conditioned to just accept any and all anti-American displays. We’re supposed to be tolerant,” Limbaugh said.

TakeAKneeNFLProtestsTakeTurnAfterVPPencePOTUSTrumpPushBack

Harper observed that, “Some of the media, however, have suggested that Mr. Trump is emerging as the victor. Donald Trump is now winning the national anthem debate without question, according to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith,” writes Ford Springer, who covers entertainment for the Daily Caller and tracked the analyst’s comments.”

JenniferHarperWashingtonTimesDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The Drudge Report has been reporting for weeks that NFL popularity is dropping.

Millions of people pledge their allegiance to the Constitution and the flag, which represents that allegiance. That allegiance supersedes allegiance to any NFL team or to any cause,” said Limbaugh. “There’s a strong and binding culture that exists among people who don’t live in elitists bubbles. Donald Trump sides with the people because he thinks they’re right. There isn’t any hidden agenda here. There are no double standards.”

It’s just simply about right and wrong,” Limbaugh stated, “It’s the practical exception of patriotism, and it’s being assaulted.”

RushLimbaughNFLTakeKneeControversyFoxDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Who hijacked what? Why is the MH Industry’s agenda in Washington, D.C. stuck? Whichever side someone happens to be on regarding the NFL controversy, the principle that MH Advocate, Rev Donald Tye Jr makes is this. Division is a tool for “the powers that be,” to “divide and rule” Americans. The controversy could be about almost anything. The Vice President had the same rights as those players who took that knee. “This is what push-back looks like.”

The MH Industry Takeaway?

For years, publisher L. A. ‘Tony’ Kovach has promoted the notion that the industry must push-back against false or misleading media, governmental, or other third-party narratives.

Kovach agrees with the state association leader who advised not to defend alleged bad actors who draw negative media.

But when the benefit of the doubt or facts support

  • manufactured homes,
  • a professional, and/or
  • the industry’s home owners,

pushing back is also how winning will be achieved and accomplished, he says.

The reason we have the largest professional audience in the industry’s history is because we strive to fight for what’s right, and won’t lay down for what we believe is wrong,” Kovach asserts.

And in Washington or locally, just as the president, vice-president, Steve Bannon, Larry Kudlow, Sebastian Gorka, NFIB, MHARR, and a host of others are showing by example, the industry needs to stand up and fight for what’s right,” Kovach said.

Failure to stand up for what’s right, allows the opposition to win by default.

Pushback with the truth well told,” Kovach advocates. That’s what will lead to acceptance and winning for our industry, the public and home owners That’s what will lead to increases that will surpass the industry’s heyday.” ## (News, analysis, commentary.)
