It’s Your Money, Future – Snapshot of Leading 2020 Democratic Contenders for Oval Office

April 1st, 2019 Comments off

2020DemocraticContendersOvalOfficeYourMoneyFutureSnapshotDaliyBusinessNEwsMHProNews

We’ve curated tonight’s report from 3 different sources that cover the left-right media divide. It will be laced – of course – with our own Daily Business News on MHProNews manufactured home industry focused analysis.

By way of disclosure, our plan for this campaign season is to do something different.  As we track and digest the candidates, we will focus more on three different ‘ones to watch’ for 2020.  Mindful that we are political independents, here’s the working plan for our coverage in the race for 2020.

  • One will be from the GOP, which at this stage seems to be President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump.
  • Another will be those Democrats – narrowing it down to one – who espouse policy positions that may, at some level, have a benefit for our part of the affordable housing industry.
  • Finally, we will look at independents and minor party candidates. At this point, our eyes are on Howard Schultz, who is carving a unique path for a Democrat floating the possibility of a third-party run for the White House.

Among Democrats, our early look was at Elizabeth Warren, due to one primary issue – her strongly stated antitrust stance. Frankly, some of her policy positions are otherwise harmful for our industry and the nation. Pete Buttigieg looks like he may be getting some fundraising O2 as well, and we will reach out at some point to his campaign if this trajectory continues. Coming from South Bend, Indiana – near the birthplace of manufactured housing – Buttigieg could in theory offer some pluses that other declared Democrats don’t.

What follows are pull-quotes from right-of-center Fox Business, that are complimented by videos from left of center Bloomberg and CBS News.  We’ll conclude this early campaign snapshot with some points for industry pros and investors to consider.

The latest polling, per Bloomberg, of top possible and accounted candidates are as follows.

BidenSandersBetoTop3DemocraticPOTUSCandidatesBloombergDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Pete Buttigieg

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg said on Monday that his campaign raised more than $7 million in the first quarter of 2019.”  Buttigieg is reportedly an openly homosexual candidate. That’s a non-factor to MHProNews politically, but it may be a major party first that could benefit him with segments of the Democratic base.

Francis Beto” O’Rourke

Former congressman and 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s campaign raised a record-breaking amount in the first 24 hours after his candidacy was announced…O’Rourke received $6.1 million in online contributions, according to his campaign…” He reportedly also has cash on hand from his failed 2018 campaign for the U.S. Senate against Republican Ted Cruz.

Bernie Sanders

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders raised more than $5.9 million in the first full day after he launched his campaign. In less than a week after the declaration of his candidacy, his team said he raised $10 million…” Sanders has perhaps the biggest organizational advantage, given his failed run for the Oval office in 2016 as a Democratic contender.

Kamala Harris

California Sen. Kamala Harris, who declared her candidacy earlier this year, raised $1.5 million in the 24 hours following her announcement. That included $1 million in the first 12 hours. The average donation was about $37, among 38,000 donors. Harris will not be accepting donations from PACs. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar raised more than $1 million within the first 48 hours after she launched her campaign, far less than the totals of some of her colleagues.”

Amy Klobuchar

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar raised more than $1 million within the first 48 hours after she launched her campaign, far less than the totals of some of her colleagues. Klobuchar will also not accept donations from PACs.”

Elizabeth Warren

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign did not publicly disclose how much it raised in the first 24 hours after she declared her candidacy, but according to filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), she raised more than $299,000 after announcing that she was forming an exploratory committee. According to Politico, that included more than 8,000 donations on the day that she announced the committee – with an average donation amount of about $37.”

The U.S. is Too Far Down the List Among Nation’s With the Highest Percentage of Home Ownership

Once more, our focus will be what’s best for citizens, current mobile/manufactured home owners, and the nation.  The graphic below is an indictment of both major parties in the last few decades on this issue.  The American Dream includes home ownership, not merely affordable renting.

Manufactured housing is the most proven form of affordable housing. It offers consumer safeguards that far more expensive conventional housing does not offer.

The Industry Rundown at this Time?

Frankly, most of the Democratic field has tended too far left.  Many are pushing unrealistic plans, such as the Green New Deal, or “Medicare for All,” which some GOP types of nick-named, “Medicare for None” – because they believe it will rapidly bankrupt the nation.

Warren and Buttigieg will be interesting to watch, but both will need to do something to break out.  Will they pivot to a more business savvy position?  Time will tell.

Among Democrats, the one who is pushing more centrist concepts is Howard Schultz, as he tests the waters for a possible independent run for the White House.  He is uniquely talking more about the dollars and cents of various policies, more so than anyone on the Democratic side.

In 2016, we formally endorsed Donald J. Trump, and overall his blend of typically Democratic and GOP policies that created what in some ways is a unique blend that could well propel him to reelection in 2020. Again, as a disclosure for new readers, this writer had an article published here on MHProNews spotlighted on the Trump 2016 campaign website.

Team Trump clearly valued our trade media’s support.  No one else in MHVille trade media even came close to trying, much less being nationally recognized.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business, and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative, centrist, and pro-Trump websites.

That said, as noted above, we will plan to narrow our picks down to 3 in 2020 as we being to approach the conventions.

  • The GOP contender we believe has the best policies for the nation and our industry,
  • A Democrat, with the same criteria, who will offer the best MH and national policies,
  • And an independent/minor party candidate with the same criteria.

Once the nominees are known, we’ll make a final recommendation to our readers at that time.  Will it stay POTUS Trump?  Will it be a third party or Democrat this time around?  You’ll know shortly after we decide who looks best – and why – for policy, track record, and other reasons.

Among the issues that we think matter most to the industry? Or to manufactured home owners?  To investors?

  • Business friendly policies that will grow the economy. The rising tide should float the most boats, especially with the second bullet below taken into account.
  • Strong anti-trust policies, noting what the top candidates have or plan to do with respect to the FAANGs, Berkshire Hathaway, and Microsoft (#DeFaangBM, #OpenMarkets). For reasons MHProNews and MHLivingNews has outlined before, we believe that it is better for the economy and the industry if the FaangBM companies are broken up under antitrust laws.
  • Candidates who will enforce good existing laws. Much of what manufactured housing needs are already federal law.  Be it the Duty to Serve (DTS), Enhanced Preemption under the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000, antitrust, or RICO laws, etc. – they should be enforced.

We’ll track the more likely presidential candidates, and later to a lesser extent, some House and Senate races too.

That’s how we plan to help you protect your money and interests, as we provide “News through the lens of manufactured homes, and factory-built housing,” © where “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

In Connected World, Oil and More Impacts Factory-Builders, What Does Latest Unrest Mean? Plus More Headline Topics

February 23rd, 2019 Comments off

ConnectedWorldOilImpactsVenezualanUnrestDailyBusinessNEwsMHProNews

If you’ve been buying fuel lately, you’ve noticed that prices have been rising in recent weeks.  The tragedy of Venezuela is part of that backstory.  Make no mistake. As one of the top proven oil reserves in the world, that Latin American nation’s political and economic upheaval are impacting the U.S. and beyond.

Fuel costs impacts manufactured home builders, as well as retailers on the delivery-end.

But fuel and energy costs also impact the industry on the supply side, as virtually all products reach a production center via truck.

Once upon a time, there were factory-builders that had active rail lines that brought products to a factory, and sometimes, were used to ship them out too. The historic photo below reflects that reality.

85'flatcarsSooLineRailroadMobileHomesShippedbyRailManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

History also reminds factory builders that a producer can go from zero – start up status – to having built and shipped some 60,000 homes, in only 2 years.  Rephrased – as much as Warren Buffett would hate it – one could rival Clayton Homes rapidly. That would require the proper mix of motivation, money, manpower and know-how.  See the related report below, by clicking the text/image graphic.

Rollohome, Creating 60,000 Factory-Built Homes in 2 Years

The CNBC video below focuses on the economic ripples that arise from the growing crisis in Venezuela.

One of our themes on MHProNews is “News through the lens of manufactured homes, and factory-built housing.” © Put differently, that means that ‘other news’ that mainstream media may cover often impacts our industry in ways that the rank and file or others may not consider.

Headline News the White House Wants You to Know

The Trump Administration has demonstrated its interest in manufactured housing in a variety of ways.  Dispatching Pam Danner, JD, from her role over the manufactured housing program is one example.

But regulatory and tax issues are just some of the other ways that’s manifest.  Still more examples are found in the related reports, further below.

While MHProNews can’t at this time produce all of the volume of news that comes to us from federal and other sources, we do curate topics that could be more relevant to investors, owners, strategists, advocates, and others that may only obliquely relate to our industry.  The headlines and one paragraph summaries below are an example of that you may find of interest.

While POTUS Trump often blasts ‘fake news,’ in fact Team Trump routinely produce such summaries of reports from mainstream media that underscore the reality that even the president believes that not all mainstream news is ‘fake.’ He’s said on several occasions, all he wants is a fair shake.  These headlines therefor project issues that will help shape the 2020 races, and thus the political and business environment that you are and will be operating in.

As Sam Zell, Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) founder observed, they discovered that they had a ‘partner’ that had no investment, but could still influence their business. It pays to know more than just the latest shipment numbers.

-The Detroit News

Col. Tony Shaffer writes. “As Democrats rally around radical proposals such as ‘Medicare-for-all,’ free college tuition, enormous minimum wage increases, and even guaranteed basic income, it was President Trump’s responsibility to remind us that socialism’s sweeping promises are always empty.”

Lower Tax Refunds Show How the Republican Tax Cut is Keeping Money in Your Hands All Year

-USA Today

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) explain that tax refunds are lower today because taxes are lower—keeping more money in Americans’ hands all year long. First, Democrats were wrong that tax cuts would hurt our economy. Now, they are “peddling the scary elixir that ‘lower tax refunds mean higher taxes.’ Wrong again . . . This claim about refunds, as the Washington Post’s fact checker observed, is ‘nonsensical and misleading.’”

Can Close Reading of Facts Bring Left & Right Together for MHVille, Nation?

February 3rd, 2019 Comments off

BrightIdeaLightBulbSenatorElizabethWarrenPotusDonaldTrumpCloseReadingFactsBringLEftRightTogetherforMHVilleNation

Among the featured reports below is a surprising look at possible points of agreement between Senator Elizabeth Warren – a 2020 Democratic Presidential hopeful – and President Donald J. Trump (GOP).

If so, it’s arguably a big plus for our industry, consumers, and nation.  See that on What’s New on MHLivingNews.

There are several reports connected to Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage, and a bold new effort alleged by numerous sources of Clayton trying to rig the marketplace.  Names are named, facts are cited.  Clayton has not yet denied it. It’s hot.

There is also developments on past and new issues regarding 21st, wholesale and other practices. See that report, further below.

There’s a new infographic packed report.  It spotlights at-a-glance housing data, including manufactured home insights.

Then there are exclusive insights on NPR, PBS, and the dark money behind them, which for whatever reasons periodically target manufactured housing.

On the Masthead is a look at why no one can truly understand the macro-picture of modern manufactured homes – including why we are still at historically low production levels – without understanding Warren Buffett’s concept of the strategic, economic moat.

There are new reports last week about Cavco, their controversy – and legal maneuvers – at play there.  There are surprisingly useful comments from George Soros, see that report too.

New reports from HUD Secretary Ben Carson and other HUD related issues are likewise linked below.

Fannie Mae and manufactured housing, political, economic, market news, and much more follow.

With no further adieu, here are the headlines from the week that was January 27, 2019 to February 3, 2019.

Criminal Justice Reform – Fact$ & Why it Matters to Manufactured Housing Professionals, Investors, and America

November 15th, 2018 Comments off

CriminalJusticeReformFactsWhyItmattersManufacturedHousingProfessionalsInvestorsAmericaDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Let’s start with some facts.

There’s a shortage of construction and other workers.

That worker shortage impacts manufactured housing, and other builders too.  There is also the cost and consequences of incarceration.

USCriminalJusticeInfographicCollageDataDailyBusinessNewsMHPronews

According to Wikipedia,In October 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world’s population, it houses around 22 percent of the world’s prisoners.”

IncarceratedAmericansPrisonJailpopulationJuvenileDetentionDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

When did that surge in incarcerations begin?

According to Reason in a 2015 post, “…neoconservative academic John J. DiIulio Jr. warned Weekly Standard readers [in the 1990s] that “These monsters weren’t entirely inhuman. “Under some conditions,” DiIulio allowed, “they are affectionate and loyal to fellow gang members or relatives.” Though “not even moms or grandmoms are sacred to them.”

All this fear-mongering would eventually be debunked. Over the next two decades juvenile crime, like crime in general, would sharply fall instead of surging. DiIulio himself eventually recanted the superpredator theory. But not before it was adopted by a number of prominent and powerful Americans, such as this woman,” said the libertarian-leaning Reason, which posted the following video.

Rephrased, then First Lady Hillary Clinton made the remarks reflect in the video along with others in support of President Bill Clinton’s sentencing guidelines program.

BillClintonsCrimeBill4MediaheadlinesCriminalJusticeReformDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

It was a Democratic administration that led the U.S. into the highest percentage of inmates in the world.  While there were voices on both sides of the aisle that wanted that, why is it that some Democrats try to make it sound like this was a conservative-created issue? That’s simply untrue. Without President Clinton’s buy-in and Hillary Clinton’s leadership and support for that cause, it would likely have died in Congress.

SentencingReformTrumpCostIncarcirationUS$1TrillionAnnuallyDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Closed Minds?

There are regrettably millions of Americans who are reflexively anti-Trump.  But the 45th President’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has worked with a bipartisan group to craft legislation that may well cross the finish line.  Who says?

Another left-of-center media outlet, USA Today.

President Trump Embraces Bipartisan Criminal Justice Reform Legislation

The ‘First Step Act,’ developed by [Jared] Kushner and a bipartisan group of lawmakers, is designed to improve rehabilitation programs for former prisoners and give judges more discretion in sentencing offenders for nonviolent crime, particularly drug offenders,” David Jackson, Deborah Barfield Berry, and John Fritze report,” said the USA Today.

The industry and the nation can benefit from the right type of bill.

MHProNews is not taking a position on the specifics of this legislation.  Rather, we are spotlighting it as one of several topics that a good post-production national association should be objectively paying attention to, and so should savvy manufactured housing professionals, owners, investors, and all others who care about people and justice. We also applaud those businesses that provide prudential second chances to those who want to start over after incarceration.

Key Clayton/MHI/BO Bets Spanked, First Look at Winners & Losers

November 7th, 2018 Comments off

KeyClaytonMHIBOBetsSpankedFirstLookAtWinnersLoser2018MidtermsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

There’s work to do.

There are still undecided midterm races.  Some may be headed to possible recounts, or an upcoming special election.

First, we will look at the facts, then we will take a glance at what this could mean for manufactured housing (MH) and the industry’s investors.

HouseOfRep2018MidtermsABCGoDailyBusinessNEwsMHproNews

While details are still outstanding, the broad brushes are now known.

  • Democrats picked up enough seats to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, but not as many as the GOP waves during the Clinton or Obama administration midterms.
  • The Republicans or GOP (Grand Old Party) have increased their hold on the U.S. Senate.
  • Democrats won some hard fought gubernatorial races, and will have a net gain in state houses, but Dems also lost some high-profile states.

It’s a mixed bag, with plenty of data to unpack for weeks or even months by political experts and analysts.

Some interesting and troubling factoids include, but are not limited to:

  • Former president Barack Obama campaigned in places like Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Nevada, California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
  • The Netflix-contract beneficiaries -Barack and Michelle Obama’s will earn millions from Netflix millions for years – had results that were decidedly mixed.

Mr. Obama campaigned for Democrats like:

  • Mayor Andrew Gillum, who conceded his race to now Governor-Elect, Ron DeSantis.
  • Stacey Abrams, in Georgia – a higher volume MH state – had stars like Oprah Winfrey came for her too. Abrams has yet to concede the gubernatorial race as this is being written, but trails.
  • Former CFPB director Richard Cordray went down in Ohio to a relative unknown POTUS Trump backed Republican for the governor to replace never-Trump Kasich.
  • Former president Obama embraced Senator Joe Donnelly (IN-D), who lost to relative unknown Mike Braun, who was strongly backed by President Donald J. Trump.
  • Bottom line, in several battle ground (tossup) states, key candidates the 44th president campaigned for, lost. In some states that are strongly Democratic, or are tilting more blue, candidates Mr. Obama backed won.
  • It has to be said that some of Mr. Obama’s campaign events were small to tiny compared to those of President Trump. That has to be a point of concern for Democratic strategists, and by contrast is a bright spot for POTUS Trump, who is his party’s single biggest draw.
  • Some polling was clearly off, while others performed better.

President Donald J. Trump expanded his lead by several seats in the Senate.  These were also other victories in key states he personally campaigned in.

USSenate2018MidtermsABCGoDailyBusinessNEwsMHproNews

For example, in Florida, Ron DeSantis is the Governor-elect there. In the primaries, POTUS Trump backed DeSantis over popular Adam Putnam. That bet paid off.

In states like Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas, GOP candidates that faced huge fundraising disadvantages that Democratic billionaires wanted, the D’s fell short.  That includes Beto O’Rourke (D) in Texas, which was highlighted for months by the left-of-center media. O’Rourke could still end up as part of a packed field for 2020 among Democratic presidential hopefuls.

GovernorsRaces2018MidtermsABCGoDailyBusinessNEwsMHproNews

By the way, the political race across the board for 2020 is underway.

Spanked! Clayton/Buffett/MHI/Billionaires Beaten in Other Key Races

The Clayton-MHI and Buffett-Billionaire Democratic donor class bet on unseating:

  • Andy Barr in KY 6, they lost in a race that President Donald Trump personally campaigned for in the midterm run-up.
  • Now Senator-Elect Marsha Blackburn, who was opposed by the Claytons, even though she and Barr had both carried water for them and MHI in Congress for Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing.
  • Joe Donnelly (IN-D), who was a long-time beneficiary of MHI and their allies largess.

There are several candidates that MHI backed candidates, like Secretary Hillary Clinton’s VP, Tim Kaine, that won. But he won in a reliably blue district.

Perhaps among the more important reveals in this past few months, thanks to MHProNews fact-checks and “Follow the Money” Research is this. MHI, the Clayton’s, Warren Buffett and his fellow Democratic billionaires have been exposed for their arguably duplicitous behavior.

Was Manufactured Housing Advocate Congressman Andy Barr Backstabbed?

For examples, see the links above and below.

“He’s Lying,” Campaign Insider Video – “Don’t Do Politics?” Tell Jim Clayton, Phil Bredesen, and Marsha Blackburn, Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act Supporter

Keep in mind, ex-and current MHI members or former Clayton team members have said to MHProNews that this kind of behavior isn’t just reserved for politics.  As but one example, ICYMI or need a refresher, is the example below.

Expose! Why Has Warren Buffett/BH Funded Anti-MHC Activists, MHAction? Why Fund Attacks on ELS, Frank Rolfe, Blackstone Group?

Some Other Midterm Issues of Interest to MHVille

Some ballot propositions that bear some closer looks for the future are:

  • Prop 10 in California goes down.
  • Prop 4 in FL giving former felons the vote passed.

Another interesting factoid is this. In West Virginia, Joe Manchin (D) vote for Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, and held his seat. Several battleground state Democrats in the Senate who voted against Kavanaugh, lost.

Representative Mia Love, a conservative Black Republican in conservative stronghold Utah is undecided.  She trails her Democratic challenger, Ben McAdams, that may take days to sort out, per the Salt Lake City Tribune.

Another wildcard?  Mitt Romney, who blasted President Trump during the 2016 campaign, publicly made up as he was considered for Secretary of State by then President-Elect Trump won his race in UT.  Will he be the next John McCain/Jeff Flake Republican? Time will tell.

An estimated 113 million voted, per ABC News.  But only some 13 percent of 18 to 39 year olds voted. That often-played card – that the youth vote would pour out this time – was once more elusive, a drag more on the Democrats who court that block.

We surfed between Fox, CNN, and MSNBC last night.  CNN talking heads, for example, admitted that this was not a “blue wave,” though they were clearly thrilled at the victories in the House.

There were states where far left candidates won, like Vermont or Maryland, but so did GOP gubernatorial candidates in those same states. Interesting? You bet.

Overall, It’s a Mixed Bag, With Possible Silver Linings

What is certain is that the Team Trump, with far fewer dollars than the Democrats, stopped those who claimed that the Senate would be lost, where the GOP picked up seats.  From the perspective of the Oval Office, if you must have a divided Congress, holding the Senate was the more important win for the Trump Agenda.  POTUS Trump can now more easily get his nominees for the courts and his cabinet.

An underreported point among almost all media is that several of the Democrats positioned themselves as moderates, or even embracing some of the Trump agenda. That’s arguably a ruse, but it worked for some candidates, while it failed for others.  For example, outgoing Senator Claire McCaskill (MO-D) literally called some of her fellow candidates “those crazy Democrats,” while saying she would support the president on border issues.

It ended up pretty-close to what MHProNews projected, with the GOP Senate lead expanding.  It appears as of this time that 9 of the 11 candidates that President Trump campaigned for in the last week before the midterms saw the GOP candidate win. That’s a history-bucking trend.

Lee Carter’s Insights

We will look in the days ahead at Lee Carter’s insights on the how differently Democrats, Republicans and Independents can “hear” exactly the same thing.  This played a role in the midterms, indeed, in every election for some years.

But it is also an insight for manufactured housing professionals.  Those are among the reasons we will look at that, because it one of the keys to better understanding how more votes – and more customers – can be obtained.

Enough for now to say that messages have to be crafted that break-through the noise that opposition or years of misinformation.

Wins and Losses, Lessons and Initial Look Ahead

Each side has interesting or troubling victories and losses. Some quick takes are as follows, each of which has significant meaning for manufactured housing industry professionals. We’ll bullet these for now.

  • Education can work. Those who followed the Trump Rallies should know they were informative for those who attended and tuned in. He also kept them interesting, often using humor, and kept the crowds engaged.
  • Track records are helpful, but are sadly not bullet proof.
  • President Trump does have coattails, but there are limits.
  • The lack of full unity among the GOP cost some seats that may have been won or held. While there are exceptions, some losses in Congress were by lukewarm Trump supporters.  For example, it is questionable if Ted Cruz would have won absent the 45th President’s support.  Why in still red Texas?  One read is that Cruz’s track record with POTUS Trump was problematic.
  • Money, deception, lies, and propaganda can work, but they are not omnipotent. This bullet deserves several stars by it.
  • That facts and education can still defeat propaganda and money, and are hopeful signs.

What MHProNews spotlighted for months was that freebies still hold appeal to tens of millions of voters. Some openly socialist candidates won, while others lost.  Some who backed single-payer healthcare or what some dub “Medicare for all” – socialized medicine – worked often enough for Democrats to expect that to continue to be a theme for their party.

Thomas Sowell, Ph.D. Economist, Thinker,

Collage credit, Wikipedia and MHProNews.com.

Education has to be ongoing. Otherwise, endless propaganda, billionaires and big money can win out.  Another takeaway was the relevance of the related report, linked further below.

The Upcoming Lame Duck Session?

What will be something important to watch is what happens in the lame duck session, before the new Congress is seated.  Can President Trump get any legislation he wants through during the next few weeks?  While recent history would suggest that is a challenge, the president is a fighter. Stay tuned.

What Lies Ahead for America, and MHVille?

As this is being written, markets are up.  A split Congress means that Democrats can’t impeach the president, thought several of their candidates promised to make his life miserable for the next two years. Hearings of all kinds could follow in the House.  Will it slow or stop the America First agenda?

Will there be any bipartisanship on issues like infrastructure?

What will happen on hot topics like the FHFA and the GSEs? This is an issue that will impact MHVille, see the related report, linked below.

Conflict of Interests? MHI’s, MHARR’s Most Recent Statements on Controversial GSE Lending, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Weighs In

There are several items we will be unpacking in the days ahead.  For example, it is an open question as to the impact of hundreds of billions of investing dollars that were flowing into the U.S. this year as a result of the Trump tax cuts and regulation agenda.  Democrats can’t undo that agenda, those laws are in place and are, for now, safe.  But are they threatened in the foreseeable future?

Markets and investors will be sorting that out, as they look at the tea-leaves.

The Trump-Republican economic platform has been performing.  That message didn’t entirely break through. And therein lies a challenge for manufactured housing and the nation.

The rule of law was essentially on the ballot. The rule of law, arguably benefits our industry, while a lack of it harms it. Socialist ideals, picking and choosing which laws and private property rights are enforced all matter to MHVille professionals.

It is also misinformation that lies at the heart of several of the victories for Democrats. It is misinformation, Capital/lending manipulation, and failure to enforce existing laws that have harmed manufactured housing.

POTUS’ tweets post-election are a riot.  For those who lack a sense of humor, don’t bother looking, but he’s clearly just begun to fight.

We put our boots back on this morning, because the split-decision lays a potential framework for future victories.

We’ll examine some note of those opportunities for the industry, as we continue to unpack this midterm in the days ahead. Of course, that will come along with our continuing industry-leading coverage of other  issues and news that impact manufactured housing.

The president will address the nation shortly. That’s “News through the lens of manufactured homes, and factory-built housing,” © where “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Ending Rigged, Corrupted Systems, & Manufactured Housing Advancement

There’s a swamp in Washington, D.C. But let’s be clear, there are swampy, rigged, and corrupted stuff occurring in states and local jurisdictions too.  Each of these impact manufactured home owners and professionals, day be day.

CashHandsEndingRiggedcrruptedSystemsManufacturedHousingAdvancementWithSundayMorningMHIndustryHeadlineRecapDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

It may seem odd at first to name them both in the same paragraph, but both Senator Bernie Sanders and President Donald J. Trump share this in common. They’ve tapped into the millions who believe that the systems been rigged and corrupted.

That’s almost where their similarities end. Senator Sanders (I-VT) is openly promoting a socialist agenda that’s failed almost everywhere in the world that its ever been tried.

By contrast, President Donald J. Trump – a former Democrat turned Republican – promotes an agenda that shares similar items what worked for Democratic President John “Jack” F. Kennedy and former democrat turned GOP President Ronald R. Reagan.

There are many reasons why Donald Trump captured 1/3 of the counties that previously voted for Senator (D-IL) turned President, Barack Hussein Obama.

Manufactured Housing and The Swamp

Manufactured housing could be roughly 10 times larger than it is today. So why isn’t it bigger? Several reasons. We explore those on a periodic basis, while spotlighting the factors that should result in more manufactured home sales.

The industry needs an independent voice – like this platform, and our publicly focused sister-site, MHLivingNews.com – that use a factual, evidence-based, and common sense ways of evaluating the realities and possibilities for manufactured homes in America today.

One of many things are certain. Like hate or no-opinion on President Donald J. Trump’s style, the future of his initial and planned reforms will depend on GOP victories from coast to coast.

Don’t dismiss – not buy-into – the so-called ‘blue wave.’ Keep in mind the same sources that say that anti-Trump candidates will win in November are those who crowned Secretary Hillary Queen… – err, excuse me, ‘president’ – in 2016.

There’s energized Democratic, Independent, and GOP voters. It’s always about who shows up.

PresidentDonaldJTrumpFirstLadyMelaniaTrumpPhotoLATonyKovachDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews505

We don’t hide who we support, and we proudly supported him in 2016 too. We proved correct then, and it can be so once again.  It’s all up to everyday people, like you, us, and others…by the millions.  The system can still work, but it means getting up and going to vote wisely.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the one we believed would be best for the manufactured home industry, independent businesses, and hundreds of millions of Americans. As the screen capture above proves, one of those pro-Trump stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

One Big Difference Between 2016 and 2018

The biggest difference between 2016 and 2018 are results. President Trump has proven he can do what Secretary Clinton and former President Barack Obama’s said he couldn’t and wouldn’t do.

That’s the reason you should start talking up President Trump’s record vs the false claims and smoke-screen distractions of his opponents.

Love or hate POTUS Trump’s style, he’s getting results he promised. If the House is held, and the margins in the Senate and House grow, we bet he’ll give us more victories for business and income growth in the future.

We’ll review the headlines on the week in review, starting with MHLivingNews, then the Masthead, and finally, the stories on the week that was etched into history on the Daily Business News on MHProNews.

Epic Battle for MHVille Mainstay Looms, With “Not the Most Popular Guy” and His Rival

August 29th, 2018 Comments off
CongRonDesantisMayorAndrewGillumManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Official photos, Ron DeSantis left, and Andrew Gillum right..

Florida is a top state for manufactured housing (MH). Battles like this one will define the business climate for years to come. Don’t be surprised if some resident group, like MHAction, gets involved.

Don’t let past habits or lethargy lull you into complacence, because what happens in this looming Florida contest matters to business owners, MH industry professionals, residents, and investors.

Congressman Ron DeSantis beat Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in the Florida Primary. Putnam received some digital ink from the Florida Manufactured Housing Association (FMHA) earlier this year, when he visited the Cavco production center in Plant City, FL.

Ag Commissioner, Gubernatorial Candidate Adam Putnam Tours Palm Harbor Plant

DeSantis modestly say in this first video that he’s “not the most popular guy” in D.C., due in part to his role in opposing the Congressional slush fund for paying off claims of sexual improprieties. So that race, in a state where about one in ten live in a pre-HUD Code mobile home, or a post Code manufactured home is an important one.

Both winners in the Florida gubernatorial primaries last night are big news.

Why?

Because the Democratic winner was endorsed by self-declared socialistic Senator Bernie Sanders. Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum Is the first black American who could become the governor of the Sunshine State. Gillum beat a rival with greater name recognition, and more money.

Gillum, like Senator Sanders, is also a self-declared socialist. Democrats will watch this development with mixed feelings.

Gillum’s GOP rival DeSantis trailed Putnam, up until President Donald J. Trump tweeted his support.

AdamPutnamVsRonDeSantisDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

After years of mostly anti-Trump media coverage – per third party studies, as much as 90 percent against the president – POTUS Donald J. Trump’s support still clearly matters. Mr. Trump’s approval has risen, in spite of the onslaught, a strong lesson for manufactured housing thinkers and doers.

More recently, President Trump held a rally in Florida, and gave his full-throated endorsement. Putnam has pledged his support to DeSantis.

So yesterday’s winners have this in common. Each received the support of a “big name” – POTUS Trump and Senator Sanders. Each man won after they were initially expected to lose.

The business environment in Florida has been good under Governor Rick Scott, who also won, and will face off against incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in November.  That too will be a tough fight, but the edge may be toward Rick Scott, who also enjoys the 45th president’s support. There are concerns in the Democratic camp about how Nelson has been doing in the polls.

Florida is one of the top states for manufactured housing in the nation. Factories for the majors and independents, and thousands of communities are here.  The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform’s list of top states is below, and lists Florida behind #1 Texas, and #2 Louisiana.

The Takeaways

The Daily Business News for several months has been reporting on the trend of rising support among millennials and others for socialism. This trade media platform has also been periodically reporting the meltdown in Venezuela, which matters because that’s socialism in action after just ten years.

There’s corruption around the globe, but it exists in socialist countries too. While socialist leaders dine well, Venezuelans are slowly starving. Over two million have fled the country.

It’s the subject that Bernie Sanders, who once praised Venezuela’s move to socialism, now wants to avoid.

The socialist Gillum will be pitted against the POTUS Trump supporting – and supported – Congressman Ron DeSantis.

For manufactured housing, it’s the question of someone who is pro-business and pro-growth, vs. someone who will try to tap the rising tide of socialist thinking among Democrats.

It’s serious. While DeSantis should win, as always, it will depend on turnout and avoiding stumbles.  Expect President Trump to be here during the campaign.

With a socialist on the ballot facing off against a pro-Trump wingman, it could be a spirited debate. It should be an epic contest, one important for business leaders and investors to get engaged in.  See the related reports, further below, for more details. “We Provide, You Decide.” ##

Steel and other metals are part of every manufactured home.  It would be unlikely that someone would find a long list of HUD Code manufactured home builders getting excited about the first word on tariffs.

Publicly traded companies involved in manufactured housing watched their stocks lose ground in most cases. Only 3 of the tracked stocks rose, the others either held or fell. To see the full market recap, click here.

Controversial Trump Tariff$ Announcement, Century Aluminum CEO Explains the Facts, Plus MH Market UPdate$

Agree or disagree – this is one of those candidate Donald J. Trump campaign promises that President Trump is now beginning to implement.

Even normal POTUS Trump supporters are questioning, even blasting the move.

Steve Forbes, and Larry Kudlow are among those Trump supporters who are howling on this move…

…but some who jeer are met by others who cheer.

Nucor President and CEO John Ferriola explains why President Trump’s plan to impose a tariff on steel and aluminum would affect the price of cars, but that on a average car price of $36,000, the price hike would be about $160 if steel prices rose 20 percent. That’s less than ½ of 1 percent, says Ferriola.

So there are two sides to this issue, which the Fox Business videos posted above and below reflects. “The Coming Collapse of China” author Gordon Chang explains this is a national security issue, as well as a shrewd business move.

Dems Love it, Says Bloomberg…

This welcome action is long overdue for shuttered steel plants across Ohio and steelworkers who live in fear that their jobs will be the next victims of Chinese cheating,” said Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, per Bloomberg.

Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said, “The American steel industry has been under pressure for decades from unfairly traded products from China and elsewhere, as well as global overcapacity. I am pleased that the president recognizes the importance of addressing these challenges and finally intends to take action.”

The Daily Business News take?

Expect some roller coasters, until the markets grasp the bottom line data.  Example, the solar panel tariff move resulted in overseas companies quickly opting to move some production to the U.S.

So among the cooler analyst heads, odds are that the markets will smooth out.  Are there other reasons why?  Because the mammoth U.S. trade deficit with China gives the U.S. some leverage, as expert Chang explains.  It may also give the U.S. move leverage with China over the North Korean issue.

With the markets already roiled by FED related concerns in February, there are several tactical and strategic reasons to believe this could prove to be another presidential gamble, that could pay off. Time will tell. ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)
