Illinois--flooded_mallard_lake_mhc_pontoon_beach__advantagenews__ted_lohr_creditResidents of the Mallard Lake manufactured home community at Pontoon Beach, Illinois, near Alton, were forced from their homes by a flood. Upon their return, up to a week or more later, some were surprised to find eviction notices taped to their door for late payment, as advantagenews informs MHProNews.

Heavy rain hit the 278-home site community Dec. 26 and people had to leave hurriedly. Community owner RHP Properties quickly recanted on the eviction notices and even offered extra time for residents to make the monthly rental payments, as well as waiving the late fees.

Power was cut to the community on the first day when the flooding began, causing food spoilage in refrigerators and freezers, but Dave Hale, regional vice president of operations for RHP, said he knows of no damage to any of the homes because they are raised off the ground. Not all homes were as threatened as others by the rising waters.

The Village Green and Lakeshore Estates communities were also evacuated.

According to their website, RHP Properties is the nation’s largest (or second largest—their website says both) private owner and operator of manufactured home communities in the country, with 224 communities comprised of 56,349 home sites in 23 states. ##
