RV/MH Hall of Fame staff projects they will triple the available space, to take advantage of the lucrative event-planning market.

Darryl Searer, President of the museums operator, RV/MH Heritage Foundation, expressed missed opportunities in upwards of $100,000 for the year, due to current limitations.

In addition to taking advantage of future prospects, the center will also provide a tourism boost for the region and local economy.

Searer further explained the internal benefits specific to the industry:

These plans will allow us to grow with the RV and Manufactured Housing Industries, as well as the greater Elkhart community to service the event center needs, office needs and the long-awaited Scoular Manufactured Housing Museum. These plans will also insure a positive cash flow to make certain the Hall will be here forever.”

Searer expressed that fundraising efforts will play a major role in financing the $8 to $10 million expansion budget, while outlining the optimistic goal of a 2020 opening.

HUD Coders Outpace the RVers in Hall Campaign Challenge

March 28th, 2016 Comments off

rv_mh_hall_of_fame_and_useum__their_creditThe ongoing campaign challenge to eliminate the remaining $2 million debt of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum, pitting the MH industry against the RV industry, with a goal of $1 million each, reveals the manufactured home industry is way ahead, $674,750 to $132,500.

Chairman and president of the Hall Darryl Searer announced the updated totals from the campaign that began 18 months ago, when Clayton Homes CEO Kevin Clayton proposed the challenge with a contribution of $200,000 over five years. He asked others in the MH industry to pitch in, and many responded, including Joseph Stegmayer, CEO of Cavco Industries who donated $50,000.

Searer’s efforts during his four years as volunteer head of the Hall has resulted in the reduction of the organization’s debt from $5.5 million to $1.2 million, taking up the challenge when few thought the Hall could survive.

Noting that the RV industry has fully recovered from the Recession and now “the RV business is booming,” Searer said, “I believe that the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum is a shining light for our two industries and belongs to everyone related to these two industries. We each should be proud of our beautiful facility, our history and heritage that it represents–proud enough to financially contribute to its continuing legacy.”

Thanking the board of directors, volunteers and others in the industry for their support, Searer stated when the final $1,192,750 is paid, the Hall will be self sufficient. “Income from museum admissions, gift shop sales and hosting many events at our Northern Indiana Event Center will provide the funds to operate in the black. In addition, the board of directors passed a resolution that requires any new major project or addition to our facilities will not begin until it is fully funded.”

He added, “”What we need is for a few more ‘angels’ on the RV side to step up.” ##

RV/MH Leaders Applaud Darryl Searer’s Fourth Year Leading the Hall

March 9th, 2016 Comments off

darryl searer rv mh hall of fame president rv mh creditWhen Darryl Searer agreed to a one-year commitment to volunteer as president of the RV/MH Heritage Foundation and the RV/MH Hall of Fame (Hall), little did he know his passion for the position would grow to four years—and counting. Little did industry leaders realize the extent to which he would be able to raise the profile of the non-profit, significantly reduce its debt and increase its revenue.

As MHProNews has learned from the RV/MH Hall of Fame, the list of his accomplishments include reducing the debt from $5.5 million to $1.2 million, adding a manufactured home to the museum, adding several historic RVs to the collection, and developing the Northern Indiana Event Center (NIEC) into an entertainment facility that covers over 50 percent of the Hall’s operating expenses each year, among others.

He has been lauded by industry leaders for his selfless devotion to his position. RVDA President Phil Ingrassia said, “Darryl has done an outstanding job uniting the industry behind the RV/MH Heritage Foundation and the RV/MH Hall of Fame. As a volunteer, it’s amazing the amount of work he has done to improve the visitor experience, make the hall more inclusive of all industry segments, and diversify foundation revenue.”

Cavco’s President and CEO, Joe Stegmayer, said “Darryl, a successful businessman in his own right, offered to be president and chief staff person of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum. Darryl took on these responsibilities as a true volunteer–no salary, no incentive bonus, no compensation of any sort, no perks, no benefits!”

Barry Cole, former chairman of the board, said, “The RV/MH Hall of Fame is thriving and the building will be debt free shortly because of Darryl Searer. Not bad for a guy who would not accept any salary compensation in the four years since he took over.”

Stegmayer added, “I believe we owe a special debt of gratitude to Darryl Searer for taking the helm at a particularly tough and challenging time for the Foundation. The Foundation was mired in debt and was generating operating losses each year. Now, after four years of his volunteer service, the Hall operates in the black.” ##

Reservations for RV/MH Hall of Fame Ceremony nearing Record

July 22nd, 2014 Comments off

MHProNews has learned from the RV/MH Hall of Fame that the 400 reservations for this year’s Hall of Fame Induction Dinner Aug. 4, 2014 have already surpassed the 311 who attended last year, and Darryl Searer, president of the Hall of Fame, expects to exceed the 434 record high. The induction ceremony for the five Class of 2014 inductees will follow the dinner at the Hall of Fame’s Event Center in Elkhart, Indiana. The 2014 RV/MH Hall of Fame Golf Classic has also surpassed last year’s participation. Says Searer: “I think the enthusiasm for participating in honoring these inductees says a couple of things. First, the Hall of Fame selection committee made excellent recommendations for the Class of 2014, and also, members of the RV and manufactured housing communities have a renewed interest and confidence in the long term viability of the hall of fame, museum and its programs.” ##
