Doctor’s don’t serve their patient if they ignore troubling test results or health symptoms.  A good physician candidly shares the good, the bad, and the problematic honestly with their patients.

An analogous principle from medicine holds true for good trade media.

While big companies have several resources available to them to inform them of trends, and allows them to prepare, smaller to mid-sized companies often don’t have that same luxury.

Data forwarded from a Manufactured Housing Association of Oklahoma (MHAO) member for analysis and commentary.

According to data provided by a source that is a member of the Manufactured Housing Association of Oklahoma (MHAO), two states in their region are down year-over-year.

One of those states is Louisiana.  According to data compiled by the independent HUD Code home producers trade group – the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) – Louisiana has been the number 2 state in recent years.

Louisiana is the number 2 state in HUD Code manufactured home shipments for the past 7 years. For that state to be sliding, in addition to others in the U.S., is a significant development.

Yesterday, the Daily Business News on MHProNews once more led national manufactured housing trade media in reporting that another top 10 state is sliding, as are several other states.

New Shipment Data, Top Manufactured Home State, Other MH States Continue Slide

During the growing affordable housing crisis, this is a warning sign.  So why hasn’t the umbrella association the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) addressing this persistent problem, when MHProNews has been spotlighted the troubling trend for years?

Why does MHI ignore the clear warning signs?

Keep in mind that while there is an emerging new national manufactured home community association – one that Nathan Smith and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) are trying to embarrass and purportedly hope to kill-in-their-crib – the only national post-production association is MHI.

MHARR’s focus is on production related regulatory issues.  MHARR only began to take up finance issues – a post-production concern – because sources say that MHI has demonstrably failed their own members in that and other areas.

Past and current MHI members like Kenny Lipschutz, Marty Lavin, Frank Rolfe, the states that have broken away from MHI, are among the signals that no matter how pleasant their mixers or networking may be, they are ‘not getting their job done’ on behalf of the majority of their members.

The above from MHAO is from August data. The new MHARR September 2018 shipment data is found at their report linked below.

Notices

This report is being drafted prior to the close of polling on November 6, at 3:25 PM ET.  MHProNews will begin to unpack the midterm outcomes later Wednesday, and in the days ahead.

Another forward-looking notice is that MHProNews contacted:

  • Kevin Clayton, Clayton Homes,
  • Tom Hodges, JD, Clayton Homes,
  • Tim Williams, 21st Mortgage,
  • Richard ‘Dick’ Jennison, MHI President,
  • Rick Robinson, JD, MHI General Counsel,

among others in manufactured housing industry leadership.  They’ve been asked about specific HUD Code manufactured home industry related issues and reports. As of this time, they have not yet responded. Keep in mind these same sources used to reply promptly.  Why are they hiding from the industry’s leading media?

Whatever their response – or failure to respond – will be likewise be part of upcoming reports.

Other factory-built home industry publishers arguably have their hands tied on what they publish, which is routinely fluff and just cheerleading. If that is the only media you’d read, you might be led to think that everything is all good. But in fairness to them, it often due to who those other publisher are being paid by – follow the money.

MHProNews prides itself on being the most independent, analytical, and essentially the sole fact-checking national trade publisher in our industry.

Those are among the reasons why MHProNews leads all others by a country mile in professional readership, from companies of all sizes, including those noted herein. MHProNews routinely have more readers in a day than others do in one or more months, per third-party data.
