Still from the MHLivingNews video, posted further below.

There’s an ongoing drum beat of news media coverage that reflects on manufactured homes and their owners.

In part because of the principle of significant numbers of editors – “If it Bleeds, if Leads” – many hard news media, stations, and news channels tend to focus on problems, as opposed to ‘good news.’  Simple Google searches demonstrate that reality when it comes to manufactured homes, as the report linked below reveals. To be fair, its not universally true.  There are arguably some mitigating circumstances, for example, when a writer is rushed and relies on stereotypes instead of in depth research.  But the fact remains that a survey of most news coverage about manufactured homes tend to be negative, rather than positive.

Media Bias, Ignorance, Manufactured Homes, Agenda Journalism, the Truth About “Fake News”

Given the affordable housing crisis, the general pattern of media coverage is a problem for millions of home seekers, who are kept in the dark due to in part to a general lack of understanding of what the realities are today.

There are exceptions to that pattern of media bias or ignorance, as the report linked below reflects.  As other Daily Business News reports have indicated, public officials also play a role in this challenge of misinformation.  The same could be said about some significant forces within the ranks of the industry, who fail to routinely defend the industry which they are supposed to promote.

Bloomberg, HousingWire, Realtor and Fox all suggest Manufactured Homes as Important Solution for Affordable Housing in America

Third Party and University Level Research Often Favorable Towards Manufactured Housing

While you may not learn it from the bulk of media reports, for at least two decades, federal and third-party researched published reports often debunked prejudiced or ignorant view of modern manufactured homes, and their owners.

At the time Belsky made this prediction, manufactured homes were selling over 250,000 new units per year. This year, MH won’t reach 40 percent of that total. What happened?

But for a variety of reasons previously outlined, the voices of manufactured home professionals and owners are often depicted as negative.

Meanwhile – in an ironic twist, federal data, plus third party surveys and research – routinely reveal widespread manufactured home owner satisfaction.

What the brief review above reveals is that the authentic voices of manufactured homes owners are often lost in the bulk of affordable housing discussions in America.

Easter Sunday Morning Weekly Recap – Manufactured Housing Industry Headline News 3.25.2018 to 4.1.2018

April 1st, 2018 Comments off

HeLivesEasterSunday412018DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The celebration of Easter comes around once a year, but Sunday is a weekly occurrence.

As one scans national news, millions with a cause, effect and solutions mindset are seeing the connection between social and political ills and a loss of the sacred in society.

It’s all about the truth, and acting upon the truth. As Dr Keith Ablow has observed, not following the truth has consequences. That applies to our industry and related issues, and to all of the other challenges in our world.

Manufactured Housing and the Truth

Manufactured housing is plagued by a simple yet complex issue. It could be summed up with what Pontius Pilate asked Jesus at trial on a “Friday paradoxically called Good.

What is truth?”

Jesus stood silently for that question from Pilate.  Millions of believers down through the centuries understood that the Christ is Truth Personified. His Real Presence spoke Truth.

Manufactured housing pros come from a full range of beliefs, including some agnostics and atheists.  But all should find the question of truth compelling.  Without truth, no substantial good can be achieved long term.  Engineers, builders, bankers, janitors and parents — numerous professions and vocations — rely upon objective reality – the truth – in order to properly their work.

The truth can make some uncomfortable at times. That’s normal, even useful. It’s called conscience.

Some want to pick and choose ‘their truth.’ It’s as old as the story of Adam and Eve, justifying breaking the one rule that they were given — don’t eat the fruit of that one tree.

What makes manufactured housing a compelling opportunity for buyers, sellers, and others involved in housing is that the value is real. The heart of our story is based upon the truth of the needs, and the truth of our product and services.

Homes don’t have to be perfect to be good, any more than a car, truck or SUV doesn’t have to be perfect to be useful, or a meal has to be perfect to give nutrition.

Next week or early the following, barring the unforeseen, the Daily Business News plans a first quarter of 2018 review of the state of the manufactured housing industry.

There is obviously good news in rising new home shipments. But we won’t sugar coat the fact that manufactured homes are still near historic lows.

To solve a problem, one needs to search for the cause, the effects, and then apply the truthful solution.

On this Easter Sunday, we thank God for the blessings of faith, flag, family and the good fortune that we are working with thousands of fine folks like you in a great and must needed industry, manufactured housing. With no further adieu, let’s dive into the headlines and links to the week that was.

Affordable Housing Focus Group, Comparing Housing Options, Rent, Conventional, Condos, Manufactured Homes

March 6th, 2018 Comments off
AffordableHousingFocusGroupzManufacturedHomes550x400DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews550x458

The video is near the end of this post.

Even during ‘boom times,’ the manufactured home industry struggled with certain issues.  Experts and advocates often point to regulatory or financing challenges.

Beyond the ‘lending and legal,’  the core challenge goes under many different labels or monikers.

  • Stigma.
  • Image.
  • Once true, but now outdated realities.
  • Outright myths.
  • Prejudice.
  • Lack of proper understanding.
  • Need for education.

The best information in the world must still be accepted or at a minimum, and considered by those who hear, see, or read it.

The industry doesn’t need hype or exaggeration.

What manufactured housing needs is to have reality be properly presented by credible voices.

The Daily Business News will preview today part one of a multiple episode video captured near Fairhope, AL, in the appealing Gulf Shores/Pensacola area.

You don’t have to be told that these are not paid actors.

Nor where the participants given anything, other than a good meal and gas money for the drive to the restaurant where this focus group was conducted.

WelcomeToRealityDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Manufactured home professionals, individually must look reality in the eye. If everyone else ignores reality, the ones who grasp it are logically best able to advance.

Affordable Housing Focus Group, Episode (Part) 1

The entire focus group session lasted for about an hour, but this first part  – episode 1 – below is about 5 minutes and 5 seconds.

This isn’t about rah-rah. Rather, it’s about helping open minds.

It’s about education, through questions and answers in a group setting from those who know. That means, viewers discover credibility.

You can see glitzy productions in manufactured and modular housing.

If pretty pictures or great videos were all that it would take to sell more manufactured homes, then manufactured housing shipments would be somewhere between 500,000 and a million new homes a year.

But the industry finished 2017 with some 92,900 shipments.

Obviously, fancy videos and great looking websites alone clearly aren’t doing the job the industry needs.

By contrast, Inside MH has done videos with residents, experts and industry professionals that when they are shared as we suggest, result in a big increase in business.

Why?

Because what well qualified home shopping viewers are watching the video for is insight. When they find authenticity, they’re loving it.

IdeaManufacturedHomeDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Pre-Louisville, the Inside MH Road Show team traveled to Key Allegro Villas in Fairhope, AL between Mobile, Pensacola and near Gulf Shores, where a 55 plus community is growing near the warm winds and waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The purpose of many of our Inside MH videos is get people who know to reveal what is.

It’s about information, and it can at times be entertaining.

But the goal is opening minds and providing accurate insights.

People sense authentic, genuine people and what’s real in interviews.

That in turn results in opening more minds.

This isn’t something you can do for yourself.  Experience and third party research alike tell us that for this to be effective, it must be done by a well-informed, third party media. The by-product of such educational videos routinely is, that more people buy.  For an example of how it works, see the report and video interview, linked below.

Manufactured Housing’s “Duh!” Monday Morning Sales Meeting

Let’s nail down a key point for this focus group, or any of our video interviews.  Given reality, consistently told in an authentic way, and professional, ethical service the industry can be revived and grow to new record highs, and do it in a sustainable fashion.

To rephrase, these are not ads.  They’re educational.

That’s what moves our operation. Opening minds to reality in ways that can advance the industry for good.

Every thing we do has the goal to address and reveal the cures for the issues that keep manufactured housing far below its potential.

We will soon post a version of this on MHLivingNews.com.

With no further adieu, here’s the video.

When several clients report 200 to 500 percent or more growth rates, and do so with happy new customers, that says it all.  “We Provide, You Decide.” (News, announcements, analysis, commentary.)

Manufactured Housing Industry Headline News 1.21.2018 to 1.28.2018 Sunday Morning Weekly Review

January 28th, 2018 Comments off

ManufacturedHousingIndustryHeadlineNews1212018to1282018DailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsw

January has been one hopping month for news.

The past few days have brought there share of headlines and topics that are significant for the manufactured housing industry, and for all other kinds of factory builders too.

We expect two new stories to break this week.

The first will be about a focus group connected to manufactured housing, set in the context of the broader affordable housing crisis.

The next is an exclusive story about tornadoes and manufactured homes.  It could shake up the discussion for the industry in a variety of ways.  There are other developments we are tracking that we can’t yet mention at this time…

Our popular and ever-growing list of thousands of readers of emailed headline news updates will carry those and all other new stories we spotlight, analyze and publish.  If you and your team are not yet on that read=hot list, you can sign up at this à link here in seconds.  Third party MailChimp stats tell us our engagement is through the roof compared to all others in media and publishing.

Also, as we look ahead to the final days of January, and the first days of February, there’s a rumor floating about that the MHI initiative, and how questions may arise at their upcoming winter meeting. As regular Daily Business News readers recall, Richard “Dick” Jennison cancelledat the last minute” on his own presentation at Louisville.

It seems unlikely Jennison and Drucker will cancel at their own event.

Stay tuned…

There’s more talk floating out of D.C. and elsewhere in MHVille, but now, let’s look at the headline news, in review…

“Mobile Home Fires,” “Free Smoke Detectors,” 1 of 1000s of Examples Why Terminology, Informed Media Important to Manufactured Home Industry Professionals

November 7th, 2017 Comments off

ChampaignIllionoisFireDepartmentMobileHomeFireDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsIn Champaign Illinois, there have been what’s described as “two mobile home fires” recently, and as a result, the local fire department is going to the local Shadowwood manufactured home community to give away and install smoke detectors.

WANDTV said that, “They’re calling Saturday a “Smoke Detector Blitz” and say they hope to visit 220 homes from 1 to 4PM.”

The goal is noble.  Certainly every home should have them, and make sure they are operational.

But the way the story, facts, and terminology are presented by the local media and fire department are flawed.

As a new introduction to manufactured home living report revealed just days ago, manufactured homes are safer than conventional housing, and are about 3 times safer than pre-HUD Code mobile homes (see link above).

Because of how the U.S. Census Bureau housing, National Association of Realtors © (NAR), and other statistics, and terminology is, was, and will be reported – this is an issue that can continue for years to come.

Wishing it were different won’t make it so. Only pro-active steps will make a difference.

Fire safety records. Wind storms, weather safety records. Appreciation. Financing. The host of issues that cause heartburn to manufactured home pros are spotlighted at this linked article, with educating the general public in mind. Pros are encouraged to link up, and thereby share the information with residents and home shoppers.

The solution takes some effort, but it’s simple. Education. That education must start with industry professionals, and the manufactured home industry’s current home owners.

More conventional housing burns – and more die in those homes – than in HUD Code manufactured homes. Also, fire deaths dwarf the loss of lie in a tornado. https://www.manufacturedhomelivingnews.com/keeping-the-home-fires-from-burning-fire-safety-and-the-modern-manufactured-home/

In Response To Tragedy, A Principle Based Message of Hope, Solidarity, Subsidiarity

Over the past few weeks the nation has experienced a lot of tragedy.

First, there was the sad events in Charlottesville, which raised the ugly specter of racism among a tiny group of Americans again.

Then, there is the more recent Hurricane Harvey’s devastation in Texas, which has shown an example of people of all backgrounds pulling together. But the sheer scope of the tragedy can’t be measured in the cost in dollars alone.

In response to Charlottesville, manufactured housing advocate, the Reverend Donald Tye, Jr. and MHLivingNews/MHProNews publisher L. A. ‘Tony’ Kovach prepared a statement of “healing and hope.”

Citing sources, Tye and Kovach point to principles of Christianity and morality as foundational in America.   Not to declare a national religion, but to encourage the best of people, the duo say.

As people from a variety of walks of life come together to help those devastated by Charlottesville, Texas, Florida and now Louisiana, the reminder they shared is that we are all part of one human race, one nation, and one earth.

Among their quotes, “United we stand, divided we fall.”

Steve Bannon, White House Chief Strategist, Wants Google, Facebook Treated Like Monopolies

Bannon is one of the driving forces behind Breitbart, and is widely seen as having played an important role in President Donald J. Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Google has been online for almost 19 years now.

Facebook has been for 13 years.

During that timeframe, both companies have become dominating giants.

In 2017, Google is the top ranking website in the United States, and the world.  It’s closely followed by YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet, Google’s parent company.

Facebook is ranked number three world wide, per WeForum, which cites data from Alexa.

Google, YouTube and Facebook are all routinely used marketing tools in manufactured housing — and all other kinds of marketing too.

Besides having the world’s top 3 visited websites, Alphabet/Google and Facebook account for 99 percent of revenue growth in digital advertising in the U.S. in 2016, according to the analysis of IAB estimates.

Overall the U.S. digital advertising industry grew 21.8 percent in 2016, says Pivotal Research.

The big point is that if Google and Facebook are the primary interfaces to buyers, over the long-run they own the relationships and the related data,” Pivotal Research Senior Analyst Bill Wieser told Business Insider via email. “Every partner they work with is subservient.”

Internet Utilities, Advertising, and Monopolies

Wieser isn’t the only one who sees potential problems. White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, has long been saying that the internet giants need to be regulated like utilities, and treated like monopolies.

In fact, as The Intercept points out, Facebook’s founder even Mark Zuckerberg called Facebook a “social utility” for the longest time.

I think there’s confusion around what the point of social networks is. A lot of different companies characterized as social networks have different goals — some serve the function of business networking, some are media portals. What we’re trying to do is just make it really efficient for people to communicate, get information and share information. We always try to emphasize the utility component.” – Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg told Time in a 2007 interview.

However, as they also point out Zuckerberg appears to have taken away that slogan in recent years, likely at the advice of legal council, hoping to avoid just what Bannon and others are considering.

Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is already a force in manufactured housing marketing, could be poised to enter the factory built housing space, and is widely rumored to be running for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. Image credit as shown.

When Bannon says he believes there should be laws put in place to help regulate these things he does not mean by letting the  government take complete control. Rather, they could cap advertising fees and prices, since many see it as an essential place for people to advertise their businesses (see disclosure, second image, above).

Rumors have it that Zuckerberg, who announced a road trip back in January, might be gearing up to run for the White House. Is part of Bannon’s strategy to head off a potential POTUS Trump 2020 rival?

POTUSDefinedManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsThe trip the Facebook founder spoke if is supposed to be for personal growth, “meeting regular folk”, and to “understand America.”  That sounds like an exploration of a campaign, further supported by the fact that Zuckerberg has hired Clinton campaign team members (more on that in a future report).

Bannon is known for edgy, controversial positions – and for being brilliant in his work. The tweet above is one example of some of his more controversial statements. It may also shed light on the Zuckerberg, Facebook, Google strategy. Image credit, Twitter.

Google and Facebook Are Growing Offline As Well

Regular Daily Business News readers will know that Google and Facebook both have physical stakes in the market as well. Google is planning to build 300 units of modular housing that will be used for temporary employee housing; and Facebook – although their building method has yet to be confirmed – is planning to build a whole “village” or town called Willow Campus.
