Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

The decision will very much send a signal as to what to expect from the DOJ in the future,” Judge Andrew Napolitano said on Fox Business Monday morning.

The AT&T- Time Warner merger ruling could set the precedent for other media “M&A” deals in the works, Judge Andrew Napolitano said on Monday.

Court-watchers will be looking for clues in the ruling as to what this might mean for others, including, perhaps manufactured housing.

The president has indicated hinted at times an interest in taking on Amazon.

If so, that may be a parallel to action in the currently lower-profile manufactured housing industry.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Manufactured homes are transported – so it is obvious that fuel prices matter to the industry.

Energy drilling is often a cause for demand of modular and manufactured housing, so that too is a reason to consider the oil outlook.

This evening’s summary is from CNBC.

Some bullets, quotes and a video.

  • Oil prices are heading for a downturn later this year and will sink even lower in 2019 as the fundamentals of supply and demand weaken, J.P. Morgan forecasts.
  • Crude futures could have one last “hurrah” if OPEC eases its production caps, but the rally would likely be short-lived, the bank says.
  • Growth in oil consumption looks weaker than anticipated due to softer-than-expected economic growth in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
  • Oil prices are heading for a downturn later this year and will sink even lower in 2019 as the fundamentals of supply and demand weaken, J.P. Morgan forecast in a research note on Friday.
  • While geopolitical tensions and lingering risks of large supply disruptions remain an upside risk throughout 2H18, we think that prices will be corrected downwards towards end of the year and remain capped in 2019,” J.P. Morgan analyst Abhishek Deshpande wrote in the note.
  • Despite oil prices recently rising to 3½-year highs, the investment bank left its forecast for international benchmark Brent crude unchanged at $69.30 a barrel. On Friday, Brent was trading at just under $77 a barrel, off its recent high of $80.50.
  • J.P. Morgan now sees U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude averaging $62.20 a barrel, down $3 from its last estimate. WTI was trading at nearly $66 a barrel Friday, after nearly touching $73 a barrel two weeks ago.
  • The bank knocked down its 2019 Brent forecast by $1, to $63 a barrel. It lowered its outlook for WTI slightly to $58.25 a barrel.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

CNBC provided the following bullets on concerns over a new plan advanced by Warren Buffett, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, the parent company for the manufactured housing industry’s largest conglomerate.  Their video interview with Buffett and Dimon are also shown, for balance.

  • A proposal by Jamie Dimon and Warren Buffett to end quarterly earnings guidance drew considerable acclaim but also scattered criticism, including a sharp rebuke from an analyst who’s been in the business for more than half a century.
  • The idea is “misguided” in that it would increase market volatility by reducing information and actually increasing speculation, said Dick Bove, a strategist at Hilton Capital Management, who has been a widely followed and sometimes contrarian voice in the financial markets since 1965.
  • We’re driving the market on rumor and innuendo, we’re driving the market to high-velocity trading, we’re driving it in all these directions that say knowledge has no value,” Bove said in an interview. “These two guys are at the top of the list saying knowledge has no value, therefore we don’t want to give it to you.
  • Dimon, who runs the largest bank in the U.S. as J.P. Morgan Chase CEO, and Buffett, the legendary head of industrial conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, rocked Wall Street with their suggestion that corporate executives should stop providing future profit estimates during quarterly earnings presentations.
  • In a Wall Street Journal op-ed Thursday, and a joint CNBC interview, the duo bemoaned the short-term thinking plaguing market activity.
  • In our experience, quarterly earnings guidance often leads to an unhealthy focus on short-term profits at the expense of long-term strategy, growth and sustainability,” they wrote.
  • J.P. Morgan representatives did not respond to a request for further comment on Bove’s remarks. A Berkshire spokesman pointed to a portion of the op-ed noting that “transparency about financial and operating results is an essential aspect of U.S. markets” and advocates for quarterly reporting to continue, minus the forward-looking aspect.

June 6th, 2018 Comments off

CNNmoney6.6.2018ManufacturedHomeStocksMarketsReportsMHProNewsThe first look at last night’s primaries continue to indicate that the blue wave from 6 months ago, has vanished.  It’s a jump ball.  With about 2 out of 3 Americans giving President Donald J. Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

It’s a problem many in MHVille are talking about.  Labor shortages.

Two points before diving into the CNBC data.

First, on the face of it, the data is not correct in an absolute sense.  Under Democratic and Republican administrations alike, Labor Department statistics skew the actual numbers, which the so-called U6 data reflects.

That said, CNBC is – as Sharyl Attkisson’s insightful chart has noted – tilted left.  This network doesn’t tend to give President Trump and his administration props for much of anything.

MediaBiasChartSharylAttkissonLeftRightPostedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Full Measure’s Sharyl Attiksson’s media bias chart is useful in sorting out the agendas behind various headlines and news sources. http://www.mhmarketingsalesmanagement.com/blogs/daily-business-news/no-fire-just-smoke-and-democratic-clinton-supporter-says-enough/

That said, without naming the president, this video reflects the top line data that are commonly cited by public officials, and its clearly a glowing report.

On the point of wage growth, what CNBC and others are not addressing much is the impact of undocumented – meaning, non-citizens that are in the U.S. illegally – labor, robotics, and automation. For example, a recent report says that Amazon has an estimated 100,000 robots working in their warehouses.

Job training, and other administration plans are necessary to address the remaining issues that are still holding even faster wage growth back. But the trajectory is good for workers, as the video makes plain.

Koch Brothers Battling POTUS Trump Tariffs, Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow Defends, Stocks Jump, plus MH Market Updates

June 4th, 2018 Comments off

CNNmoney6.1.2018ManufacturedHomeStocksMarketsReportsMHProNewsWhen you find the person opposed by the elites of both major political parties, then you’ve found your presidential candidate.”  That won’t turn up a search result for who first said that, but it’s a close paraphrase from a meme that was circulated during the 2016 political campaign. It’s a phrase that sums up why the GOP leaning Koch brothers are opposing the tariffs that have sparked fears of a so-called trade war.  But as several Trump Administration officials and surrogates have said, the U.S. has been in a trade war for over twenty years, and the U.S. has been losing.  As markets rose today, two videos plus commentary on the debate over tariffs are our market focus tonight.

If you’re new, already hooked on our new spotlight feature – or are ready to get the MH professional fever – our headline reports are found further below, just beyond the Manufactured Housing Composite Value for today.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Disclosure: based upon the stated platforms of both major party candidates, this author supported President Trump in 2016.  This publication supported the Trump candidacy well before the outcome in the primaries was certain, and that support was published on the Trump Campaign website (see graphic, further below). The reasons for that support by MHProNews?  Because if candidate Trump did as president what he said he would do – and as a business person, that seemed likely – MHProNews’  analysis projected it would be good for the vast majority of Americans, good for business, and good for manufactured housing industry.

The publishers are political independents. The publishers support the Trump Administration’s policies to date. Why?

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family and this publication supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business, and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

There are standard policy positions held by both major parties that include problematic items,

from the:

  • industry’s perspective,
  • that of the interests of most American businesses,
  • and from the vantage point of virtually all other Americans.

The GOP tends to be more pro-business, while Democrats tend to be more in favor of socialistic leaning policies.

That said, the GOP’s trade positions, and a tendency to get involved in avoidable overseas adventurism, are among the arguably flawed stance in that party for decades.  So neither major party is perfect.

The Lesson of China, and the U.S…

There are very few ‘talking heads’ that seem to understand that China’s economy has soared for years, in part due to their protectionist policies. Protectionism – in part, in the form of tariffs – was central to U.S. economic and foreign policy for decades; one might argue that was true for well over a century.

So, both major parties have had certain policy positions that were debatably in conflict with the interests of over 95 percent of the American people.

Forget the hyperventilation over the latest presidential tweet, or the latest scare story over the “nothing burger” about phony “Russian collusion.”

When thoughtful investors, business owners, management, and professionals look at the facts in the light of history, the president’s policies make good sense.  He’s not the radical some on both sides of the Democratic Republican aisles paint, but rather he’s a pragmatic moderate.

Against that backdrop, here are some bullets from CNBC and Fox.

  • Billionaire Koch brothers’ political network will spend millions to oppose Trump’s tariffs – the group’s biggest split with the president so far
  • The Koch political network unveils a multiyear, multimillion-dollar campaign opposing the tariffs implemented by President Donald Trump’s administration.
  • The campaign will include media buys, activist education, grass-roots mobilization, lobbying and policy analysis.
  • The network calls on the president to lift the recent steel and aluminum tariffs and the proposed levies on Chinese imports.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

There’s a two part report tonight with two videos, both courtesy of CNBC.  Note that their now saying what the Daily Business News has been noting for months.

The May jobs report is great news for everyone — except Democrats running for office

·        Friday’s monthly employment report was great news for anyone looking for a job in America – unless you happen to be a Democrat running for Congress.

·        That’s because voters who are employed are historically more likely to favor incumbents than those who are out of work.

·        With the jobless rate now down to 3.8 percent, Democrats in 435 House districts and 35 Senate races face a major challenge as they try to unseat Republican majorities in both chambers.

The US economy suddenly looks like it’s unstoppable

·        Friday’s economic data provided evidence the U.S. economy is heading into the second half of 2018 with strong momentum.

·        Nonfarm payrolls beat expectations while manufacturing and construction indexes both showed accelerated growth.

·        Economists are slowly ratcheting up expectations for growth through the end of the year, with widely followed measures putting the second quarter at between 3.6 percent and 4.8 percent.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Some give the president credit for the sun rising. Others pummel the president for every drop of rain, or perceived bad news. The truth lies between those two poles.

Donald J. Trump is a deal maker, and a showman. His personal net worth – per Bloomberg – has dropped $100 million in a year.  He clearly didn’t take the Oval Office job because everyone loves him.  He took it because he thought he could make a difference.

Oppenheimer Funds CIO Krishna Memani said this U.S. market is a safe bet for those with a longer term horizon.  On issue after issue, he praised the Trump administration’s policies.

The economy is stronger, job growth and wage growth are real.  The National Association of Realtors ™ (NAR) Lawrence Yun laid out a strong case for why the economy is strong. He also obliquely made the case why manufactured homes should be doing much better.
