RV/MH Hall of Fame Challenge Advances

RV-MH-Hall-of-Fame-posted-on-mhpronews-comDarryl Searer, chairman and president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame tells MHProNews he’s encouraged by early support of the “Kevin Clayton Debt Elimination Challenge” fund raising campaign.  The money being raised and/or pledged is to eliminate remain debts on the Hall.

Searer said, “Our goal is to raise $1 million in this campaign over the next 3 to 5 years.  These new pledges, plus Kevin Clayton’s initial pledge of $200,000, means that we are more than 35% there in only a few weeks since the campaign was announced.”  

Kevin Clayton’s $200,000 in pledges, plus others made by Gary McDaniel of Yes! Communities, Joe Stegmayer of Cavco Industries, Barry Cole, MH Insurance Services, Debra Pizer of Zeman Homes, Senco Brands and Fairmont Homes round out the top initial pledges. State Manufactured Housing Association Reveals Honors Bestowed

arkansas mfg housing assocThe Arkansas Manufactured Housing Association (AMHA) recognized leaders in the industry at its 43rd Annual Convention in Little Rock recently, MHProNews  learned from AMHA Executive Director,  J. D. Harper.

Kevin Hawks of Hawks Enterprises was inducted into AMHA’s Hall of Fame, which is the highest honor bestowed upon any individual for a lifetime of achievement. A ten year board member of the AMHA, he was recently re-appointed as an industry representative by Gov. Mike Beebee to the state agency that regulates the factory-built housing industry. Hawks Enterprises has received the “Retailer of the Year” award three times.

Putnam Homes of Fort Smith named 2014 “Sales Center of the Year.”

Lexington Homes, Inc. named “Manufacturer of the Year.”

Nominations open for 2015 RV/MH Hall of Fame

The RV/MH Hall of Fame Selection Committee has announced nominations for the class of 2015 are now open. Nominees must have a minimum of 25 years active experience in the manufactured housing, recreational vehicle or campground industries, as the tells Nominations must be submitted by Oct. 31, 2014 to be considered for the 2015 class, and the selection committee will choose up to ten inductees who will be honored at the annual induction dinner in Aug. 2015.

Shirley Checca, of Stafford, Virginia, wife of Laurence Checca, Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA) past president and Hall of Fame member, passed away Jan. 2, 2014. Former teacher, United Airlines flight attendant and beauty consultant, she passed away peacefully at her home. MHProNews extends its deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Nominations for RV/MH Hall of Fame Due

The Recreational Vehicle (RV)/Manufactured Housing (MH) Hall of Fame (Hall) Selection Committee is actively seeking nominations for the class of 2014. Darryl Searer, Hall president, said, “The Hall welcomes nominations from all RV and manufactured housing sectors — manufacturers, dealers, campgrounds, housing communities, suppliers, user groups, trade media, associations, etc.” The nominee must have been involved in either industry for at least 25 years. Hall Chairman Barry Cole said, “Time is running out for nominations to the Hall’s Class of 2014, so I urge my colleagues to honor their friends and co-workers by submitting their nominations before the October 31 deadline.” MHProNews understands the nomination process has been streamlined by the Board of Directors. Emergency Quadruple Bypass Surgery for RV/MH Hall of Fame President Darryl Searer

darryl-searer-rv-mh-hall-fame-president-posted-manufactured-housing-daily-business-news-mhpronews-com-Darryl Searer, president, RV/MH Hall of Fame is progressing well today after undergoing a successful emergency quadruple bypass surgery yesterday morning at the Memorial Hospital in South Bend, according to Barry Cole, Hall chairman of the board. Cole said, “Over the past weekend Darryl suffered what he considered possibly symptoms of a heart attack and contacted his cardiologist.  An examination on Monday proved inconclusive so more extensive tests, including an exploratory heart procedure, were conducted on Tuesday.  His doctor concluded that Searer, in fact, had suffered a mild heart attack and his condition serious enough that he should undergo immediate emergency quadruple bypass surgery.” In addition to his duties at the Hall, Searer is also the semi-retired chairman of the board of Ultra-Fab Products, Inc., an Elkhart-based supplier of OEM and aftermarket RV products. Cole concluded, “He is blessed by catching this in time, and please join me in sending a prayer his way as he continues his recovery.” MHProNews publisher, L. A. “Tony” Kovach said, “We all want to extend our heartfelt prayers and best wishes to Searer, his family and associates for his speedy recovery.” ##

RV/MH Hall of Fame Elects New Board Members

Seven new members have been elected to the RV/MH Hall of Fame Board of Directors at their recent board meeting, according to Board Chairman Barry Cole. The new members are: Dick Jennison, Manufactured Housing Institute; Joe Stegmayer, Cavco Industries; Mark Wasson, Bluelinx Corp.; Mick Ferkey, Greenway RV; Dana Nelson, RV Pro Magazine; Beverly Gardner, RVBusiness Magazine; and Raymond Padgett, Blue Ox. Additionally, fifteen members remain on the board and two others have retired. Says Cole, “These new board members will join the existing board members in helping us meet the challenges as we move forward and take the Hall of Fame to new levels of success.” As MHProNews knows, the Hall of Fame is located in Elkhart, Indiana.

The CEO and owner of Harold’s Easy Livin’ Homes in Abingdon, Vir., William Harold Stapleton, 83, passed away at his home July 24, 2013. Called a “Living Legend of the factory-built home industry,” Mr. Stapleton earned numerous awards as the number one dealer of the companies he represented, and always ranked among the top ten independent dealers. He was a Hall of Fame member of the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA), of Clayton Homes, and of R-Anell Housing Group. MHProNews extends its deepest sympathies to his wife and family upon his passing.

Hall of Fame Hires Event Promoter

The RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind. announces the selection of Jeff White as sales and marketing manager for the Northern Indiana Event Center (NIEC) plus other obligations within the Hall. His responsibilities focus primarily on promoting events at NIEC and booth sales in the Halls’ Supplier Hall. MHProNews has learned he has over 20 years experience in market development, sales and training. He began his new position July 22.
