Wishful Thinking vs Facts, Evidence, Reason, and Manufactured Housing

WishfulThinkingVsFactsEvidenceReasonManufacturedHousingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Two nights ago, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Office took the unusual step of publishing a denial of a mainstream media report by BuzzFeed News that had the talking heads on TV, radio, and in print astir for 24 hours.

Harvard law professor emeritus, Alan Dershowitz – a Democrat and civil libertarian – once more explained Friday night on Sean Hannity’s show why these fake news accounts are grounded in nothing of substance.  It goes back to the need for discernment.  That’s a point which independent, award-winning journalist Sharyl Attkisson has preached and is reported on at the link here.

MediaBiasChartSharylAttkissonLeftRightPostedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Full Measure’s Sharyl Attiksson’s media bias chart is useful in sorting out the agendas behind various headlines and news sources.  See a recent report and Ted Talk video, linked here.

That Fox video embed code with Democratic-supporter Dershowitz is not yet available.  But another one from attorney Mark Levin – who was anti-Trump for quite some time – also discusses the same issues, references Dershowitz’s comments, and is posted below. This latest episode started by BuzzFeed raise issues that have and will continue to impact the manufactured home industry, all other professions, and society at large.

As important as that is, it is not the focus of this commentary that tees up our Sunday Morning weekly headline news report recaps.  Manufactured housing specific reporting is our emphasis again today.

As If…Wishful Thinking and Fake News vs,

Fact, Evidence, and Reason

As If?

As if George F. (F?) Allen would be the best tool in the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) shed to defend the Arlington, VA based trade group – as well as some of their largest members – was laughable.  But give “F” Allen credit.  At least he tried, and did so publicly.  As weak as “F” Allen’s effort may be, it is provided in full among the reports linked below, so you can decide for yourself how effective it is at defending Clayton, Cavco, MHI, et al from the mounting evidence of scandals.

Both Allen and the BuzzFeed stoked dramas have a few thinks in common. An arguable lack of objectivity, standards, or even common sense. Both rely upon an audience that may wish or hope that what the source says is true. Both cases involve the vast difference between evidence and reason, and everything else a matter of wishful thinking or a denial of reality.

Neither Kevin Clayton, nor Tim Williams, or Warren Buffett have disputed their own words or documents that have recently been reported at this link here. No conspiracy theories, evidence, documents, and direct quotes taken in context.  The sources have been given repeated opportunities to debunk or explain away the evidence.  Silence. That’s their 5th Amendment right.

So, having “F” Allen, MHI, or certain state association surrogates attempt any red herrings or head-fakes just reveals that they have no valid explanation, which implies that the linked evidence above is compelling.

Evidence, concerns, and allegations of market manipulation aren’t just in the past. They are in the here and now, and more are planned and underway for the days ahead. MHI – and some state associations – are part of that purported collusion. They are doing so despite MHI’s own published antitrust guidelines, linked here.

It’s been about a year since Richard ‘Dick’ Jennison, MHI President and CEO, cancelled at the Louisville Show “at the last minute” his presentation on the Trojan Horse of the so-called “new class of homes” and related. Jennison apparently didn’t want to be publicly questioned by MHProNews, or by anyone else in the audience that read MHProNews, and were provided a list of questions to ask during the Q&A.

They can hide, but only for so long. Because the trend lines, truth, and evidence keep drip, drip, dripping out.

You can trust George F. (F?) Allen, or not, when he says there are no conspiracies to find. But who beside aptly named “F” Allen spoke about conspiracy? We re-published evidence from the sources in question. Let people like Allen – who continues to ducks from his own controversial practices that created negative news in the mainstream media for the industry, see the linked report on the Masthead below – use head fakes. If Allen, MHI or their surrogates had a real, logical argument, why don’t they make it? Why don’t they do so in public, at Louisville?

What are they afraid of? What are they hiding from?  Do they fear the reaction of the crowd, if they realize that they’ve been duped by people they count on to represent their interests?

The Evolution of these Issues

In fairness to the current power structure behind MHI, this is not a new phenomenon.  Rather, sources suggest it has arguably taken on new twists and turns.

Danny Ghorbani, photo credit, the Journal.

Danny Ghorbani, a structural and civil engineer, is a former Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Vice President and the Founding President and CEO of the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR).  He is a 51-year veteran of the manufactured housing industry, who has represented all aspects of the industry in Washington, D.C., including, but not limited to, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, communities and developers, and has managed two national manufactured housing industry trade shows.  He is currently the Senior Advisor to MHARR.

Reached by MHProNews, Mr. Ghorbani stated on the record that:

From my personal experience, at any given time, the largest manufacturers tend to dominate that Association — i.e., the Manufactured Housing Institute. The same principal may well apply at the state association level.”

Literally from the biggest to the mid-sized or ‘mom and pop’ operations flock here to get the news and analysis no one else in MHTrade media has the guts to cover. That’s why friends, foes, and all others are on our site by the thousands, daily.  Meanwhile the manifestly pro-MHI, pro-Berkshire propaganda and related fluff go unread.

George F (F?) Allen is one of the contributors to the MHInsider. Really? The photo above is from the last day of the Tunica Show, and the other racks looked the same.  Competition is healthy, because it allows people to compare. We might expect the MHVillage sponsored MHInsider – after the above and similar embarrassments at the Louisville Show last year – might learn their lesson, and pick up some of their own magazines, or perhaps pay some people to pick them up for them.

See why we are #1.  Share what you read here with others, because that is among the ways that this pro-growth platform – which is fighting for honest independents and professionals like you – is growing.

Did MHProNews Miss This? MHI Insider News Tip – Following Evidence, Money

October 24th, 2018 Comments off

What a message that arrived at MHProNews HQ.

It said this.

Tony [MHProNews’ publisher], I’m wondering if you missed it.  You’ve [MHProNews] done articles lately on billionaires, Democrats, and of course on MHI [Manufactured Housing Institute]. I’m conservative [said the message], but my colleagues and I give to Democrats.  We are members of MHI too. Think of Democrats and MHI as protection rackets. That’s the bottom line.”

Wow.  And ouch.

Sources in California have pointed to something similar.

Per those sources, manufactured home industry professionals are giving to Democratic candidates there, not because they necessarily believe in them or their policies.  Rather, it is because they want access, after an election.

Manufactured Home Resident Group President Cautions Against MHAction, Surprising Background Reveal to Manufactured Housing Action

Publisher L. A. ‘Tony’ Kovach said, “We value feedback, input, and news-tips – especially those tips that come with documentation or evidence of a claim. That said, while we [MHProNews] could have expressed it differently, MHProNews has published similar points to those of the professional who sent the message.  Nevertheless, it is a useful insight – and appreciated – as it underscores concerns we’ve been publishing, and gives us an opportunity to clarify the concerns that pro raised.”

There are certainly various reasons why some company or person gives to a certain PAC, and/or candidates.  The following graphic is from NBC News.

For example, MarketWatch did a run-down of how certain CEOs – including Warren Buffett – have used their campaign donations, to support candidates from this or that – or both – political parties.

PartisanBigSpendersDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsMarketWatch

The two charts above reflect why MHProNews curates from a variety of sources. MarketWatch apparently wanted to use select data to make it appear that Republicans are getting more donations, but in fact the majority of campaign contributions are going to Democrats.

MarketWatchBigCompanyGivingByPartyDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

As MHProNews revealed recently, resident community group members often mistakenly believe that Democrats are the party of and for the poor.  But the data reflects what is shown on this page, and from the linked related reports.  Democrats have become the party of big money.  They are also often the party of purported monopolistic ‘moat builders.’

7 of the top 10 billionaires lean Democratic, per published data.

As MHProNews exclusively reported, key MHI members have backed Democrats in opposition to candidates that carried water for MHI on Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing. Attracting and Retaining Sales Talent – Evidence and Data-Driven Potential in Manufactured Housing

October 8th, 2018 Comments off

AttractingRetainingSalesTalentEvidenceDatDrivenPotentialManufacturedHousingMondayMorningSalesMeeting

At this moment, the potential opportunity to achieve more in manufactured housing by independents may be greater than at any time in decades. But tapping those opportunities requires an openness to new facts, evidence, and ideas.

By definition, doing more of the ‘same old, same old,’ yields more of the same. One reaps what is sown.

In business and in public discourse, mental and physical habits set in. The right habits are good, the wrong ones are self-limiting.

When competing ideas exist, some want to discuss or debate them. That’s ok.  It can even be good, when done properly. But that ought to be done based upon a genuine, healthy discussion.

Some enter into a discussion with a closed mind, trying to prove ‘their’ point. The ego gets invested. Pride sets in. Such a person is less likely to ‘change their mind’ – at least at that time – regardless of the facts or evidence.  But the discussion may still be useful to those who are observing.

That’s human nature at work. The real geniuses are those who create the discipline of proven systems and processes that every sound business requires, and marries them with a willingness to test other ways to see if improvements can be profitably achieved.

At the core of this is the need for objectivity combined with discipline.

Discipline is good, but it’s enhanced by a healthy motivation.

There are great thinkers who were also doers. They found the way to motivate others to be the best version of themselves.

The lazy, ego-invested or honest skeptics can use all kinds of methods to block healthy or even necessary change.

The point?

An Emerging New MHVille and American Reality

A new economic reality is emerging in the U.S. Love, like, or hate his style, but President Trump is getting things done that make America a better place for small- to mid-sized businesses. Businesses are opening and expanding.  Wages are rising, as more jobs are opening.

As the economy improves, the need to retain and attract good talent will only grow. With unemployment officially at 3.7 percent, and with over 6 million job openings, people have more career and job options.

EducationTrainingDailyBUsinessNewsMHProNews40PercentLeaveFirstYear

Research has proven that training – education done well – motivates workers. Good training also improves performance and retention.

When a sales pro in retail, at the factory, or in communities can learn more to earn more, they are more likely to stay. It also makes for a better workplace.

And at the core of every marketing and sales article on MHProNews is the belief that the customer deserves to be treated honestly, ethically, and with a respect for their long-term interests.

Sellers win, when customers win. By the way, savvy customers know you have to make a profit.

In this emerging economy, the need to think in terms of mutual victories – where everyone in the mix wins – is essential. It’s a good thing, but it may require healthy changes in how business is done.

The day may come in manufactured housing when well qualified retail buyers will go to retailers or communities intending to purchase. The only question is who they will do business with.

That kind of qualified customer won’t respond well to many of the marketing and sales methods they see.

In that projected future – then and now – truly skilled, informed, disciplined sales people will be needed.

Biblical “Talents,” Words, Ideas, Evidence, and Practical Impact on Manufactured Housing, Sunday Morning Recap, MHProNews Headlines Aug 26 to Sept 2, 2018

September 2nd, 2018 Comments off

SundayMorningManufacturedHousingINdustryRecapDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsAug26toSept9-2-2018The word “Talent” has a modern and a biblical meaning, both of which matter to professionals.

The meaning of words, ideas, and their practical impact or track record all have significance to the manufactured housing industry, along with every other profession, and field of endeavor.

BiblicalTalentsWordsIdeasPracticalImpactManufacturedHosuingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

Talents has at least two meaning. In the Roman era, a talent was a large sum of money.  For modern Americans, the word also means gifts or abilities that may or may not be properly put to use by those who have a certain “talent.”

The power of ‘big government’ impacts manufactured housing daily in America. The rise of a belief in socialism is a driving force for some who believe – right or wrong – in big government.

The obvious solution to misinformation is proper information. That’s in large part educational or learning.  Ideally that education is done in useful, informative, accurate, and hopefully compelling ways.

Arguably among the pressures that have harmed manufactured housing for the last two decades is misinformation plus how local, state, and federal officials or others can use – or abuse – information in ways to support policies or programs that are bad for the interests of the industry, and are demonstrably harmful to Americans at large.

One of the driving forces in American politics from the founding of our nation until today has been faith and religious beliefs.

How do the ideas of ‘big government’ or rising socialism in America line up with classic Jewish or Christian thinking? Let’s look at the evidence.

The Ten Commandments are a common belief for Jews and Christians alike. Bible Hub says that Leviticus 19:11 in the NET Bible is transliterated this way, “You must not steal, you must not tell lies, and you must not deal falsely with your fellow citizen.”

Most honest people would agree with those ideals.

These Scripture readings for the first day of the Labor Day weekend in the September issue of Magnificat speaks to similar issues. Above and below –  as we’ve done for years – brown and bold text is provided by MHProNews to emphasize a quote. The red below is from the Magnificat.

Ready? Listen up…

  • God chose the weak of the world…”

A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 1:26-31.

Consider your own calling, brothers and sisters. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, so that no human being might boast before God. It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, so that, as it is written, Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.”

In the ancient Greek, the word “fear” can be understood as “reverential respect,” the type of reverence that a person gives to their Creator. The R is a response or refrain from the people who speak the R phrase, following those sung, chanted or read by the cantor or reader.

Psalm 33

R/ (12) Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Blessed the nation whose God is the Lord,

the people he has chosen for his own inheritance.

From heaven the Lord looks down;

he sees all mankind. R/

But see, the eyes of the Lord are upon those

who fear him,

upon those who hope for his kindness,

To deliver them from death

and preserve them in spite of famine. R/

Our soul waits for the Lord,

who is our help and our shield,

For in him our hearts rejoice;

in his holy name we trust. R/

I give you a new commandment:/ love one another as I have loved you.”

  • Since you have been faithful in small matters, come, share your master’s joy.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 25:14-30:

Jesus told his disciples this parable: “A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one—to each according to his ability. Then he went away.

Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master’s money.

After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’

Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.’

His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.

For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’” [Source: Magnificat, 9.1.2018]

Pretty blunt, isn’t it?

Among the articles below are ones that deal with the troubling rise of socialism in America. Another reflects the sentiment of evangelicals and the upcoming midterms.

Trends, facts, and evidence are ignored by industry professionals, advocates, and investors at their own peril. Properly understanding the thinking and beliefs that drives or influences policies can be practical and compelling to millions.

The latest on the people, events, and stories that influence our industry are found below.

With no further adieu, consider what follows in the light of the above. Happy Sunday, and enjoy your Labor Day weekend.
