In Connected World, Oil and More Impacts Factory-Builders, What Does Latest Unrest Mean? Plus More Headline Topics

February 23rd, 2019 Comments off

If you’ve been buying fuel lately, you’ve noticed that prices have been rising in recent weeks.  The tragedy of Venezuela is part of that backstory.  Make no mistake. As one of the top proven oil reserves in the world, that Latin American nation’s political and economic upheaval are impacting the U.S. and beyond.

Fuel costs impacts manufactured home builders, as well as retailers on the delivery-end.

But fuel and energy costs also impact the industry on the supply side, as virtually all products reach a production center via truck.

Once upon a time, there were factory-builders that had active rail lines that brought products to a factory, and sometimes, were used to ship them out too. The historic photo below reflects that reality.

History also reminds factory builders that a producer can go from zero – start up status – to having built and shipped some 60,000 homes, in only 2 years.  Rephrased – as much as Warren Buffett would hate it – one could rival Clayton Homes rapidly. That would require the proper mix of motivation, money, manpower and know-how.  See the related report below, by clicking the text/image graphic.

Rollohome, Creating 60,000 Factory-Built Homes in 2 Years

The CNBC video below focuses on the economic ripples that arise from the growing crisis in Venezuela.

One of our themes on MHProNews is “News through the lens of manufactured homes, and factory-built housing.” © Put differently, that means that ‘other news’ that mainstream media may cover often impacts our industry in ways that the rank and file or others may not consider.

Headline News the White House Wants You to Know

The Trump Administration has demonstrated its interest in manufactured housing in a variety of ways.  Dispatching Pam Danner, JD, from her role over the manufactured housing program is one example.

But regulatory and tax issues are just some of the other ways that’s manifest.  Still more examples are found in the related reports, further below.

While MHProNews can’t at this time produce all of the volume of news that comes to us from federal and other sources, we do curate topics that could be more relevant to investors, owners, strategists, advocates, and others that may only obliquely relate to our industry.  The headlines and one paragraph summaries below are an example of that you may find of interest.

While POTUS Trump often blasts ‘fake news,’ in fact Team Trump routinely produce such summaries of reports from mainstream media that underscore the reality that even the president believes that not all mainstream news is ‘fake.’ He’s said on several occasions, all he wants is a fair shake.  These headlines therefor project issues that will help shape the 2020 races, and thus the political and business environment that you are and will be operating in.

As Sam Zell, Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) founder observed, they discovered that they had a ‘partner’ that had no investment, but could still influence their business. It pays to know more than just the latest shipment numbers.

Trump Vows ‘New Day’ for Venezuela

-NBC News

“The people of Venezuela are standing for freedom and democracy, and the United States of America is standing right by their side,” President Donald J. Trump said on Monday at Florida International University in Miami. The President also addressed the American far left. “To those who want to try to impose socialism on the United States, we again deliver a very simple message: America will never be a socialist country.”

Border Apprehensions Jump 84 Percent, 606,000 Expected This Year

-Washington Examiner

“January saw a surprising surge of 22,000 more apprehensions of illegal immigrants at southwest border crossings over January 2018, prompting a key predictor to suggest that border officers will make over 600,000 apprehensions this year,” Paul Bedard reports. “The year-over-year increase was 84 percent, from 25,975 in January 2018 to 47,893 last January, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.”

An Illegal Immigrant Killed My Daughter. Trump’s Right—We Must Complete the Border Wall.

-USA Today

Retired educator Dan Ferguson writes that his beloved daughter Mandy, a 28-year-old sixth-grade teacher, was killed last year by a criminal who should never have been in the United States. “In his declaration of a national emergency on our southern border, President Trump recognized the Americans who experienced the consequences of that emergency firsthand: angel moms and dads. I never expected I would be one of them.”

Trump Officially Directs Pentagon to Create Space Force Legislation for Congress

“President Donald Trump signed a directive on Tuesday that ordered the Department of Defense create a Space Force as a sixth military branch,” Michael Sheetz and Amanda Macias report. “The directive orders the Pentagon draft legislation for Congress that would create the Space Force as a part of the U.S. Air Force.” This move sets in motion the creation of America’s first new military branch in more than 70 years.

Ivanka Trump Examines UPS Training at Facility in Gwinnett

-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump toured a UPS driver training facility in Duluth, Georgia, with Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) on Wednesday, detailing the Trump Administration’s focus on workforce development. Last year, UPS “signed a pledge in support of President Trump’s workforce development initiative, committing to offer opportunities for career advancement to more than 50,000 employees.”

Opinion: Trump Stays Tough on Socialism

-The Detroit News

“President Trump’s speech Monday afternoon in Miami wasn’t just directed at Nicolas Maduro and the socialists of Venezuela — it was also a stark reminder to left-leaning Americans that socialism’s days are ‘numbered,’” Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer writes. “As Democrats rally around radical proposals such as ‘Medicare-for-all,’ free college tuition, enormous minimum wage increases, and even guaranteed basic income, it was President Trump’s responsibility to remind us that socialism’s sweeping promises are always empty.”

Lower Tax Refunds Show How the Republican Tax Cut is Keeping Money in Your Hands All Year

-USA Today

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) explain that tax refunds are lower today because taxes are lower—keeping more money in Americans’ hands all year long. First, Democrats were wrong that tax cuts would hurt our economy. Now, they are “peddling the scary elixir that ‘lower tax refunds mean higher taxes.’ Wrong again . . . This claim about refunds, as the Washington Post’s fact checker observed, is ‘nonsensical and misleading.’”

The American economy is becoming the envy of the world, says a new report in NewsMax.

While U.S. economic growth is surging, other national economies are reportedly slipping and faltering.

Coincidence? Hardly.

Even left-of-center sources or Democratic supporting political supporters are starting to acknowledge that Trump Administration policies, including regulatory rollbacks, and the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, are fueling economic expansion.

Politically Incorrect Cartoon Commentaries, Lighter Side of Making America and Manufactured Housing Great Again

Jobs that former President Barack Obama said where never coming back to the U.S. – like mining and manufacturing – are roaring back under the Trump Administration’s leadership.

Billionaires Warren Buffett, Chase’s Jaime Dimon Praise U.S. Economy

For those who don’t know, Warren Buffett has been a Trump critic long before his successful run for the Oval Office.

So, it is worth noting that Warren Buffett, who supported Barack Obama and later Secretary Hillary Clinton, recently praised the U.S. economic recovery that has been occurring as a result of President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump’s leadership.

Buffett says you should buy stocks, or make investments, when the long-term outlook in a field or company is good.  Think about that as you ponder Berkshire Hathaway’s moves in the manufactured housing industry space in the last 15 years.

Clayton Homes, Top 25 Manufactured Housing Industry Report, Trend Lines

As regular manufactured home industry Daily Business News readers know, Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway includes numerous brands in and serving the manufactured housing industry.

Longtime, careful readers know Buffett supported policies that are often the opposite of what POTUS Trump is successfully promoting.

Taking each candidate at their word, Secretary Hillary Clinton would not have signed S 2155 into law, but President Trump did.

White House Signing Ceremony on Historic Pro-Growth Financial Regulatory Reform

This Buffett quote is worth pondering in the light of MHI and related controversies.

The DOJ’s Inspector General’s Report

On 6.14.2018, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (IG) Office released an eighteen month report that points to issues with the 2016 election that point to a “Deep State,” and to issues that aren’t based in Russia, but rather are found right here in the U.S.A.

Before diving into elements of the DOJ IG report, let’s set the table with an understanding of the origin of the concept of the Deep State.

What is the “Deep State?”

Wikipedia says that “The term “deep state” was defined in 2014 by Mike Lofgren, a former Republican U.S. congressional aide, as “a hybrid association of elements of government and parts of top-level finance and industry that is effectively able to govern the United States without reference to the consent of the governed as expressed through the formal political process.”

According to whistleblower Edward Snowden, “the deep state is not just the intelligence agencies, it is really a way of referring to the career bureaucracy of government. These are officials who sit in powerful positions, who don’t leave when presidents do, who watch presidents come and go…they influence policy, they influence presidents.”

While some, like the New York Times, dismiss the notion of the Deep State, it is becoming widely discussed across the left-right media divide. The discussion on the so-called deep state is so intense, it’s spawned an upcoming cable TV series on Epix.

Part of the issue of “Deep State” bureaucrats, who are shown as flaunting rules that prohibit them from playing favorites, leaking information to the press, having their own agenda vs. that of an elected administration, and the like.

There are those in MHVille who point to Pam Danner, the prior administrator of the Office if Manufactured Housing Programs at HUD, as an example of the Deep State at work in ways that harmed the manufactured housing industry. Danner did so, they say, until she was finally removed.

Citing sources, the Washington Post report noted that it was MHARR, not MHI, that worked for Danner’s removal.

While he focused on the military-industrial complex, President Dwight D. Eisenhower raised a similar theme to the Deep State over half-a-century ago.  In his 1961 farewell address, POTUS Ike said “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”

The maxim of the proverbial “power behind the throne” makes it clear that various understandings of the Deep State are ancient, not new.

The IG’s Report Points to Deep State Woes

The DOJ’s IG report is a both a political and legal document. It claims that there is no evidence of undue influence or favoritism, before or since the 2016 election, in the FBI or DOJ.

Nevertheless, sources that have read the over 500 page report say it is replete with examples of the opposite.

Attorney, constitutional author, and talk radio firebrand Mark Levin – who at one point was a “never Trump” believer – gives a quick litany of examples. Levin lays out the facts of how the IG report reveals wildly problematic legal issues, with a strongly and illicit anti-Trump bias.

Tucker Carlson, who has an independent, libertarian bent, had several features last night that likewise raised issues with the IG report.

The video below is about what the IG report reveals about the FBI, according to a former FBI Assistant Director.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton on inspector general’s report’s findings in the handling of the Hillary Clinton investigation: Don’t trust mainstream media analysis.

Donald Trump Jr reacts to DOJ IG report.

Rudy Giuliani, attorney for President Trump, speaks out after the release of DOJ inspector general report on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation.

The president’s legal-team point man, former New York Mayor Ruddy Giuliani, said the IG report is proof that the entire special counsel handling has been tainted from the beginning.  He claims it is leading away from clear evidence of illegalities allegedly committed by Secretary Clinton and her supporters.

Meanwhile, with no evidence yet of any direct or illegal ties to Russia by the Trump campaign, there were “spies” (informants) used, electronic, and other surveillance methods used against now President Trump’s team.

The deep state could be viewed through the “Drain the Swamp” lens that helped elect Donald Trump.

When senior FBI agents vowed to keep Mr. Trump from winning, or would cause him to be wrongfully impeached once he won, it is a constitutionally frightening development.

Elections are a peaceful way of selecting representatives of the people in a Republic. Elections create a stake for voters.  But if elections can be rigged by high-level public officials, attempting to work behind the scenes, that’s a problem that will not end well.

But it would be naïve to think that high-level “rigging of the system” was new.

We noted the concern of President Eisenhower.  But other examples exist of the power of the unelected bureaucratic federal officials – including but not limited to, the FBI – during the Vietnam conflict, and during the civil rights movement.

This is why vigilance is necessary.  That’s a basic price of freedom.

Every day, foreign powers seek to influence each other’s politics. That’s nothing new. The U.S. has done it, China and Russia do it, as do other nations too. So the hype – mostly from the left – over “Russia, Russia, Russia” shouldn’t be overlooked, but it must be taken in context.

For Americans to remain free, “We, the People” must be properly informed. President Trump and Bernie Sanders alike were debatably correct when each said that the “system is rigged.”

Day by day, it seems clear that the 45th Chief Executive of the United States means to keep his campaign promises.

Everyone has character foibles and flaws.

James Watt was known for insightful quotes.

But Mr. Trump is demonstrably taking the nation in a better economic direction. The steps he’s taken have been good for business in general, and good for manufactured housing.

Editorially, MHProNews has and continues to support President Trump based upon principles like tax cuts that have worked for past Democratic and Republican presidents alike.

As the midterms are approaching, there is a fight within the Democratic party between moderate and more socialistic Democrats. So say members of the Democratic party.

Doug Schoen, Clinton Adviser, warns – “Democrats must advance an agenda…to create a society of opportunity for all – not guaranteed outcomes achieved through wealth redistribution.”

In the GOP, recent voting indicates that pro-Trump candidates are outperforming so-called moderate or more traditional Republicans.

Time and again, the president has found a way to get things done. That’s why Americans elected him.  Unelected “deep state” actors ought not be permitted to foil the will of the people, expressed in a valid election.  “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Manufactured Housing Supporting VP Mike Pence in Elkhart, Indiana – Highlights

May 11th, 2018 Comments off

Former Indiana Governor Mike Pence knows manufactured housing, sources in the Hoosier state tell MHProNews.

Vice President Pence also knows and uses the correct terminology, and supports the industry, those same sources tell the Daily Business News.

The 58 year old vice president is mentioned by some as a potential successor for President Donald J. Trump.  He spoke Thursday in Elkhart Indiana, as the ‘opening act’ for the 45th president.

Elkhart is a hub for RVs, manufactured housing and several supporting producer businesses tied to the two industries. Elkhart is also where the RV MH Hall of Fame and museum is located.

The theme of Vice President Mike Pence was “Promises Made, Promises Kept.”

He ticked off a list of accomplishments, but among those of interest to manufactured housing industry professionals:

  • 3.1 million new jobs since the election,
  • 33,000 new jobs in Indiana.
  • 315,000 new manufacturing jobs.
  • 8,000 good paying manufacturing jobs” in Elkhart, IN alone.
  • Unemployment “not this low since 2000.”
  • Elkhart County has 5th lowest unemployment rate in America.

Consider the video a preview of the themes for the 2018 midterms.  Some one liners from the video, shown.

Jobs are coming back.”

Confidence is back.”

Under President Trump, America is back, and we are just getting started.”

We will make America prosperous again.”

The vice president focused fire on vulnerable Senator Joe Donnelley (D-IN)

“Time after time, when the president asked” Senator Donnelley to “support the policies Hoosiers need, Joe voted no.

Senator Donnelly is one of 10 Democrats in states that President Trump carried in 2016 that are up for reelection in 2018.

While much of the mainstream media has been saying for months that there is a blue wave coming in November, if the president’s polling is any indicator, that claim is doubtful if the elections were held today.

But the elections are about 6 months out. Much can occur between now and then.  The president’s and vice president’s message to their base? It could be summed up as stay engaged, vote, and keep the economic momentum going. ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

“More Dangerous…Decisions” – Unlocking the Industry Professional’s Potential Power in 2018

January 1st, 2018 Comments off

It’s not about political labels.

It’s about a search for the truth that alone informs and sets people free from the poverty of ignorance.

When you surf to the right-of-center Forbes website, or read your left-of-center New York Times emailed news, they both feature quotable quotes.

Those pithy expressions often capture in a few words or sentences an essential truth that won’t be grasped as clearly any other way. Then, one must apply ethics and reason to those quotes, and see if they are worth applying.

To kick off 2018, MHProNews continues its multi-year tradition of bringing insights, information and inspirational knowledge to the factory-built industry.

Understanding, principles and knowledge properly applied are the only silver bullet that has routinely worked.

Many of these quotes would be politically incorrect. We shared some of these years before, others more recently or for the first time today.

Warren Buffett and Donald Trump share this belief.  You should know all that you can – read, learn and apply – on things impacting your life.

Monday Morning Sales Meeting, What Warren Buffett & President Donald Trump Profitably Agree On

The quote ought to be pondered, and then the lessons applied.

Scientia potentia est potentiale.” = Knowledge is potential power.”

Without a search for understanding, and ways to improve, all that people are left with is whining, the slavery of the rut, and being a victim.

9 years ago, MHProNews launched on the premise found in our original tag line in the logo below.

As this platform matured and grew, so did the tag line, shown in the logo below.

Our new year’s wish begins by thanking our sponsors and those who use our professional services, which makes it possible for us to serve our thousands of daily readers.

Our moral traditions developed concurrently with our reason, not as its product.” – Friedrich A. Hayek.

A claim for equality of material position can be met only by a government with totalitarian powers.” – Friedrich A. Hayek.

There is no market report today.

The same principle that Dr. Thomas Sowell spotlighted in the quote above -prior to ObamaCare going into effect – on why federalized healthcare could not work, applies to other aspects of charitable services operated by government.

Dr. Sowell’s is why private, faith-based charities are routinely proven to be more efficient than government ones.

Troubling New Study Reveals a Millennial Trend, Business, Economic, Political Impact

November 15th, 2017 Comments off

SocialismScreensWomanLookingDailyBusinessNesMHProNewsTruth can be taught and caught.

But so too can error, delusions, deceptions, and lies.

People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it,” said Walter C. Langer, a psychoanalyst.  That observation of Langer’s is very much in keeping with tenants of the propagandists who caused the rise of National Socialists – the Nazis – as well as of communist leaders, like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, and others.

MHProNews periodically hears and receives unsolicited comments about millennials and their attitudes on issues that impact their work, views and voting.

It’s an issue in the minds of many in management, employers and owners.

Also important, how do people who don’t grasp “the American way” discover the American Dream, including home ownership?  How do those who misunderstand concepts such as free enterprise, and private property respond to policies that may oppose that system and those rights?

A new survey performed by YouGov reveals that some 44 percent of Millennials accept socialism, slightly more than those who favor capitalism.

While MHProNews believes that the better term to use is free enterprise as opposed to capitalism – because the term “capitalist” was coined by socialist Karl Marx, and thus plays into their narrative – nevertheless the trend ought to be a concern.

Nor are they alone in holding that or other troubling views.  The study was commissioned by the Victims of Communism, a non-profit group.  It’s called their “Annual Report of U.S. Attitudes Toward Socialism.”

In a release to MHProNews, here are some of that group’s top-line discoveries.

Screen capture from the full survey, a handy download that could be shared at at team meeting, or for individual reading.

Communism was and is still a problem—up 5% from 2016.

Americans still have a lot to learn about communism 5 7 in 10 Americans either don’t know the definition of communism or misidentify it.

The solution to the divide is more opportunity, not less. See video, below.

7 out of 10 underestimate number killed by communism.  It should be noted that a university researcher in Hawaii has published on a related topic, and he found that those that died under godless Nazi or communist systems far outweighed all those that died in so-called religious wars.

Is something happening in Venezuela? 6 in 10 are unfamiliar with Nicolás Maduro.

Communist leaders are cited as heroes to their countries by 10-20% of Americans.

The entire survey can be downloaded at this link here.

Why Should Business or Investment Professionals be Concerned?

Among the elements of concern that should be of concern to business professionals and politicos are points like these.

Millennials, per the YouGov research, while increasingly understanding of ills of communism, have a disconnect between communism and socialism.  More are willing to opt for socialist nation than a free enterprise based economy.  For those who believe that government is the solution for anything, the very issues – such as affordable housing, that free enterprise is proven for centuries is the best solution – will only increase.

Will Various PreFab, Factory Built Homes Become Los Angeles’ Affordable Housing Solution?

Thus, is it any surprise that so many millennials were willing to support Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic race for their presidential nominee?

America, Manufactured Housing & Debate Over Minimum Wage$

While the Donna Brazile book bruhaha has underscored the “rigged’ nature of that contest, perhaps equally troubling for business professionals and investors is this.  With millions of millennials embracing socialistic concepts, and given their growing influence at the ballot, could the day come that they vote ever more socialists into office?

“Hacks” – Explosive 2016 Campaign Claims by Former DNC Chair, Donna Brazile

Considering what took place in Venezuela, which a decade ago was a relatively prosperous nation, could that happen in America?

MHProNews intended to continue to develop the industry’s first and still best professional resource that identifies opportunities, doesn’t ignore problem areas, while promoting common-sense solutions. Still from the video below.

The Republic of California…and a Direct MH Connection

An industry professional with deep ties to the community sector of manufactured homes said this to MHProNews in a recently emailed statement. “California does not believe in property rights, plain and simple. We want your single family home rezoned multifamily, so you can’t rebuild your dream home. What’s yours is mine what’s mine is mine.”

Indeed, others in various parts of the country have told MHProNews something similar about their difficulties with local officials, and not always from so-called blue states.

If the roots of the problem are misinformation, isn’t the only solution good information?

The parent company to MHProNews did a test, by hiring a millennial who was a Bernie Sanders supporter. While that person ultimately didn’t work out as a team member, by providing that person who specific reading and viewing assignments, several mistaken economic and political notions where significantly modified.

That person’s work product also improved as a result.

Just as many employers are finding it necessary to do remedial education and training, perhaps the same needs to be done for those workers who may hold to such demonstrably mistaken views.

MHProNews began a periodic series of reports some time ago that focused on general economic, political and other issues – for example, the minimum wage – and how that actually works in practice.

Only understanding and clear thinking can counteract propaganda and deception. Truth can and should prevail, but it will do so only if it is passed on, person to person. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Economic, Financial Optimism Surges – Trump Effect?

March 17th, 2017 Comments off

A new survey from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shows that a combination of job gains and economic optimism are igniting consumer confidence across the country, particularly in rural and middle America.

The ongoing quarterly Housing Opportunities and Market Experience (HOME) survey from the NAR asked respondents about their confidence in the U.S. economy and various questions about their housing expectations.

According to the survey, during the first three months of this year, the share of households who believe that the economy is improving jumped to it’s highest level in the survey’s history at 62 percent, up from 54 percent last quarter and 48 percent one year ago.

In a reversal from previous quarters, the surge in positive sentiment about the economy comes primarily from respondents living in the Midwest, 67 percent versus 51 percent last quarter, and rural areas, 63 percent versus 43 percent last quarter.

Confidence levels generally rise after a presidential election as the nation hopes for the best. Even though it is a highly polarized country, consumers for the most part have upbeat feelings about the economy right now,” said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun.

Stronger business and consumer morale typically lead to even more hiring and spending, which in turn encourages more households to make big decisions like buying a home. These positive developments would be especially good news for prospective homebuyers in the more affordable Midwest region.

Increased confidence in the economy is also translating to improved feelings about financial situations at home.

The Monthly Personal Financial Outlook Index indicated respondents’ confidence in their financial situation will be better in six months, jumping to its highest reading in the history of the survey as well, climbing to 62.6 in March from 59.8 in December 2016. The index was 58.1 one year ago.

The Trump Effect

As Daily Business News readers are already aware, the election of President Donald Trump has provided a spark to the U.S. economy, including small business optimism being at the highest level in 37 years.

In recent commentary to MHProNews on Gallup’s U.S. Economic Confidence Index, author David Horowitz laid out the potential impacts for the Trump Effect and how it differs from the Obama Administration.

While his first few weeks have certainly been volatile and controversial, Trump will be a demanding leader who applies the best of his negotiating skills to push for U.S. growth,” said Horowitz.

Trump won’t be an ideological purist like Republicans who support free trade but don’t fight for fair trade.

Horowitz also had strong words about President Trump’s predecessor.

We’ve had an anti-business president now for eight years who doesn’t take a hard-nosed attitude towards these deals. Trump is going to get better deals for us, which is still free trade.

Trump will also lead the way in making infrastructure spending to boost the U.S. economy,” said Horowitz.

If the economy grows as it will under Trump, there’s going to be a lot more money to spend.

Zell Speaks on Economic Opportunities

February 24th, 2017 Comments off

Sam Zell, ELS Chair, credit, MHProNews.

Sam Zell, a name familiar to the manufactured housing industry, spoke to TheStreet recently at a conference in Boca Raton, Florida, about the “staggering economic opportunity” for the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

Trump’s vow to cut government regulation could lead to one trillion of (economic) stimulus without spending anything, while Obama added $1 trillion to U.S. debt to prop up the U.S. economy,” said Zell.

The business magnate and chairman of Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) said that eliminating a number of rules that hurt businesses needing help, will cut down on unnecessary expenses and create confidence for entrepreneurs who would otherwise be fearful of the federal government stepping in to suffocate their investment.

If the U.S. just reverses what it stopped during the Obama administration, the stimulative effect will be extraordinary, said Zell.

While Zell tends to agree with Trump on immigration, he’s had strong words regarding  anti-immigration sentiment by some in the U.S.

The United States has been the leader in the world for 200 years because it’s had a very aggressive immigration policy,” said Zell.

I think that this current period of anti-immigration is very dangerous to the future of our country.

But, he’s a staunch opponent of so called “sanctuary cities,” which he believes are a threat.

I’m a rule of law guy. If immigration and other laws aren’t enforced ultimately, you’ll destroy the society,” said Zell.

How does San Francisco justify writing its own version of the constitution?

With his extensive investments both inside and outside of the U.S., Zell remains a fan of free trade, but he supports the Trump Administration moves to renegotiate some of the trade deals.

Many of our free trade agreements are a combination of free trade and foreign policy pacts that don’t optimize economic benefits for the U.S. and instead are designed to improve diplomatic relations with trading partners, said Zell.

Before NAFTA we didn’t have a trade deficit with Mexico, afterwards we have a $60 billion deficit. Mexico, by the way, post-NAFTA has a $60 billion trade deficit with China. The U.S. thus helped Mexico’s trade picture while worsening its own. We are putting a price on the back of free trade.

New agreements must be good for the U.S. and, ultimately, that will be what is good for the free world,” said Zell.

As Daily Business News readers are aware, leaders in business, including Zell, clearly understand the significant business opportunity in manufactured housing.

Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway, which owns Clayton Homes, and independents such as John Bostick with Sunshine Homes are “doubling down” on the industry, with Zell being quoted as saying during this interview “Everyone calls them trailer parks. Pencil head, it’s not a trailer park.

ELS and Berkshire Hathaway are also two of the manufactured home industry connected stocks tracked every business day by the Daily Business News, with the most recent reportlinked here. ##
