Danny Glover, Presidents Barack Obama & Donald Trump, Promises Kept, and Affordable Manufactured Housing

October 3rd, 2018 Comments off

It’s almost axiomatic.

Promises made during a campaign are not always promises kept.

But there is a promise that then Senator Barack H. Obama (IL-D) made during his successful 2008 campaign for the presidency that ought to stand out for all thinking people of independent thought and good will.

Then Senator Obama promised to fundamentally transform America. After 8 years, the U.S.A. was indeed a different place.

Donald J. Trump had never run for any office, but had periodically considering running for the presidency for decades. Like Mr. Obama, Mr. Trump made many campaign-promises.

Every time an investor or professional in manufactured housing – or any other profession – interviews a job applicant, or considers a possible investment, facts are gathered. Those facts are found in resumes, references, and job applications.

In investing, it’s the data and track record about the business or property that are carefully examined. P&Ls, sales, occupancy levels, and other aspects of due diligence aim to give a buyer or investor as close to a real-time and historic snapshot of what is reality.

Reality – the truth – matters in business. Reality can create more certainty, which successful investors crave.

No serious investor wants to put his or her money down blindfolded. Thus, facts and history matter. No smart manager, owner, or executive wants to hire someone without understanding that person’s background, accomplishments, and motivations.

When facts matter so much to hire a candidate for work, or to invest money, why do millions of Americans rely on mere feelings – emotions – or impressions before they vote for someone that could fundamentally change the way their business operates?

Yet that is true for tens of millions who voted in 2016, or in 2008 and 2012. Emotions and impressions mattered more for millions than facts did.  A farmer, and voters, reap what they first sowed.

Barack Obama – Remember Hope and Change We Can Believe In?

The list below by Doug Ross at the Journal is only a partial snapshot, but it was largely ignored at the time. Why? Because of what we will call the Danny Glover effect.

Recall what actor Danny Glover said in the highly-awarded documentary movie, Shadows of Liberty.

Danny Grover quote from the fascinating video documentary, Shadows of Liberty, posted on the linked page above.

What needed to be added to Glover’s comment, quoted above, are the techniques of manipulation and how much of the mainstream media favored Senator Obama, and then later, President Obama.  Here’s Doug Ross’ fact-based infographic.

The national debt and historically high deficits soared during the Obama years. Frankly, the George W. Bush Administration added to it too, but nothing like the record-holder, Barack Obama.  Perhaps the best known broken promise is the one on ObamaCare, documented by it’s own designers as having been based upon lies.  They said so, on video, see the article and details below.

ObamaCare Architect Jonathan Gruber – Lack of Transparency needed to pass ACA

Ross’ data-points are only a partial list, but serves to make the point. President Obama favored government “investments” vs. private investing. That historically is a recipe for corruption and failure, regardless of party label.

Some of the New Manufactured Housing Builders

Jessup, Hamilton, and New Vision are just three of the new builders of HUD Code manufactured homes that have emerged since President Donald J. Trump took over the White House.

Look at fairly recent newcomer, Legacy Housing, which is roughly tied with American HomeStar, per the data below. They came into being during the Bush Administration.

One of the driving forces that are growing in the next tier after Clayton, Skyline Champion and Cavco is Legacy Housing. They’ve grown rapidly in Texas, and are now doing the same in GA. Part of their success? Its financing, as well as other price point and specialized products.

By contrast, what happened in manufactured housing during the Obama years? We’ll turn to the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) data to see.

How is it possible that so many HUD Code home builders vanished or where absorbed by larger firms during a growing affordable housing crisis? Recall an expert that MHI used to cite, before the Clayton Homes takeover by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway?

Why did Belsky miss his predicted date? Because it came before Buffett’s entry into MH? See Smoking Gun 3.

Smoking Gun 3 – Warren Buffett, Kevin Clayton, Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corp Tim Williams – Manufactured Home Lending, Sales Grab?

When Harvard’s Belsky said that, manufactured housing production was far greater than it is today.

How did the destruction of so many factory builders occur?

In part, the evidence and reflect that capital and lending were choked off for independents. That forced closures and under-value sales. Recall this tip from a MHProNews reader below, which was signed by Tim Williams, of 21st Mortgage, a Berkshire Hathaway Company.

This document was provided as a news tip to MHProNews. See Smoking Gun 3.

MHProNews looks at the facts, considers the sources, and follows the evidence. MHI earlier last year, and for years before, MHI routinely replied promptly to all inquiries. But since we’ve spotlighted the problems and concerns, MHI and their ‘big boy backers’ have gone silent. Why? If the facts are on their side, why not make offer a cogent explanation?

Fresh Facts, Figures, Future of Affordable Housing -Comparisons- Conventional Site-Built v Mobile/Manufactured Home Industry Data

Marty Lavin is a multiple decades successful manufactured home professional, and a keen observer who very must strives to stay abreast of what is happening in MHVille. We’ll share some of his better known quotes in this context. The reason is because his quotes arguably fit.

The logic of this statement can be applied to a variety of cases. Discourage lending, and you discourage sales.  Cut off financing to independent operations, and you kill off independent companies.

See the former MHI president’s farewell article, at this link here.

Lavin, an MHI award-winner is an expert in lending and finance, pointed to former MHI President Chris Steinbert’s last article in the now defunct Journal of Manufactured and Modular Housing. Steinbert used it to polite slap at his own Arlington, VA based trade association for failing to get to root issues, like financing. Lack of lending and other capital options were choking off businesses that debatably caused the failure of so many retailers, and thus builders, of HUD Code homes. Thousands of communities were impacted by harmful regulatory barriers too.

One or Lavin’s businesses became what was known as Mountainside Financial. That was later absorbed by what today is known as Credit Human Federal Credit Union. Lavin has professionally advised GSEs. MHI awarded him for a reason.

No quote is used to imply that everything else said or done by a person is perfect. Normal people know that. Not this writer, nor any other mortal today, could live up to a standard of perfection. Quotes and facts are used on MHProNews when relevant to a discussion, following a biblical maxim of the separating the “wheat and chaff.”

Barack Obama had the support of most, but not all, of the billionaires on the chart below. Why? His economic principles were demonstrably wrong. Mr. Obama either made promises in ignorance, or knowing they could not be kept.  Either way, the result was the same, terrible for thousands of businesses in our industry.  That pattern was repeated by other industries and professions.  So millions of Americans were harmed by demonstrably bad policies.  But most of the top billionaires backed Mr. Obama, including Warren Buffett.

Tech Billionaires, “Moral Cowardice,” MH Industry, and National Impact

Thousands of independent communities, and retailers vanished during the waning part of the Bush and all of the Obama years. The Daily Business News on MHProNews explored the causes of the 2008 financial meltdown.  Warren Buffett knew the fall of the GSEs was coming, he sold all of that stock.

Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Berkshire Hathaway Backstory

It was policies that dated back to the Clinton era, or even Carter Administration years, that led to that 2008 housing/financial collapse. President Bush failed to head it off, in part because people like Barney Frank and their supportive PACs, unions, etc. were getting big campaign donations from the GSEs.

Today, the GSEs of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are co-sponsoring MHI events. Why? To NOT make many loans on manufactured housing?

Marty Lavin advises, “Follow the Money” and “Pay More Attention to What People Do Than What They Say.” The GSEs are praising manufactured home quality, but then created a special class of manufactured homes, with key MHI member input, that is aimed at funneling that lending, per informed sources.

By choking off lending, as described in Smoking Gun 3, Clayton Homes grew rapidly, as numerous independents failed or sold out for less than their real value. The pie charts help illustrate and tell the tale.  Isn’t what is occurring with the GSEs now just a variation on that same theme?

Do you see a pattern?  Can you spell, “rigged system?”

Graphic by MHProNews, using information provided by each corporation, or named entities.

The 45th President of the United States (POTUS), Donald J. Trump, is keeping his campaign promises. Who says?  People like industry veteran Eddie Hicks.

President Trump’s opponents errantly call him a racist and misogynistic, but he’s created more jobs for blacks, women, and minorities. The same people who once praised Trump as a media or business personality, now slur and slander him. Why?

Facts and history matter. Evidence matters. The degree of emotional manipulation that is taking place in our nation is breathtakingly bold, but easy to spot for those who are willing to look with an open mind.

The Great Manufactured Housing Debate

The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) is in the palms of several larger operations, but most notably, Berkshire Hathaway owned brands. We’ve offered to debate these and other issues with them publicly and via video, so all could see it. MHI has ducked it, while arguably trying to undermine our pro-growth industry work. Why?  Why would MHI’s president say the industry should grow slowly, so that Berkshire Hathaway and others could consolidate greater pieces of it?

For a time in 2017, MHI attorneys, or surrogates for MHI, threatened us with various forms of litigation for publishing information that was accurate and supplied to us. MHProNews called their bluff.  Their response to our slowly evolving questions or concerns was to first remove this writer from an elected board position in the Suppliers Division, and later to eject the parent company of MHProNews from membership for the spurious reason that we were “News.”  By doing so, they ignored the fact that we did consulting and other business development services, just as other MHI members publish news or commentary and do other things too.

With each step, MHI created questions. What are they doing? Why? How? For how much?

The former MHI Chairman, Nathan Smith, supported Barack Obama. Smith and others involved with MHI support today several of the candidates that oppose President Trump’s tax cuts and regulatory rollbacks which allowed some new businesses to emerge since Donald Trump came to office.

Nathan Smith, SSK Communities, From Mobile Home Resident to Manufactured Home Communities Owner, & Manufactured Housing Institute Leader

MHI is a nonprofit. Kevin Clayton said in the video below that nonprofits are part of the Berkshire/Clayton plan.

It’s nearly an hour long, but the references and his own words spell out “the Moat” that they used to consolidate so much of the industry.  That video, and linked articles, explains in detail how that consolidation of manufactured housing was accomplished.

The midterms are mere weeks away. Monopolistic-minded backers knowingly support Democrats that former President Barack Obama or Secretary Hillary Clinton are endorsing or supporting.

President Trump campaigned on several promises. Some have already been kept, like redoing NAFTA, bringing back manufacturing, repatriation of capital, cutting taxes and regulations. Others have been stymied by Democrats who resist and obstruct. The GOP margins in Congress are narrow.

As we did in 2016, as an independent, we once more gladly support the candidates that back the Trump Agenda.

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the manufactured home industry, small business of all kinds, and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

This president is doing more for our industry, and other professions, than anyone else in decades.

Facts are facts. There is a monopolistic pattern of powerful people that have been using the Democratic Party for years. It is not the party that it was during the Kennedy years, when President John F. Kennedy cut taxes and spurred economic growth.

We said in 2016 that Donald J. Trump could win, in spite of the barrage of anti-Trump media. Trump backed candidates can win again this year. As we track key Senate and other races, several pro-Trump Republicans are ahead in recent polls, others trail narrowly. It can all change by election night, on November 6.  It call comes down to turnout and voting.

MHI, people like Warren Buffett, Nathan Smith, Barack Obama, The Clintons or others will be supporting the opposition of President Trump.

There are thousands who believe as Eddie Hicks does, sometimes quietly, at other times, publicly.  When was the last time a president did what President Trump has done for our industry?

President Donald J. Trump Visit to Manufactured Home Community, Video, Hurricane Florence Update

We proudly stand for the President and his America First agenda.

  • American jobs.
  • American steel.
  • American oil.
  • American coal.
  • Smarter immigration.
  • Finishing the Wall.
  • Making tax and regulatory cuts permanent.
  • Rising wages.
  • More capital creation.
  • More free market competition.

We’ll close for this morning by saying that we expect a successful GOP and President Trump to take serious aim at housing barriers and monopolies. HUD Secretary Ben Carson has already sent those signals. They mirror what our regulatory comments said to HUD, and what the YIMBY vs. NIMBY article below indicated.

YIMBY vs. NIMBY, Obama Admin Concept Could Unlock $1.95 Trillion Annually, HUD & MH Impact

Should pro-Trump Congressional representatives and Senators win by enough margins, before President Trump leaves office after 2024, expect Berkshire Hathaway, Clayton Homes, and other big-tech monopolistic forces to be broken up by federal action.

Should that happens, expect more Rollohomes to emerge. One new producer, building some 60,000 new homes, because the demand was there, and the regulatory environment wasn’t insane.

Rollohome, Creating 60,000 Factory-Built Homes in 2 Years

People like Judge Brett Kavanaugh are being smeared for political purposes. President Trump has taken the smear tactics head on. An army of deplorables of all races, religions, and genders has formed.  People like Kanye West are breaking the stereotypes.

The Importance for Businesses and Investors in Manufactured Housing for Selecting the Next Supreme Court Justice

The result of a red wave election could make the Americans Dream more real than it has been in decades. It can upset the socialistic minded candidates, who made and make false promises that they can never fulfill.

The alternative?  Venezuela, where a once prosperous nation a decade ago has been turned into a basket case economy, where some 2 million have fled, and the average person remaining has lost about 19 pounds due to hunger.

An avoidable socialistic tragedy, that they voted in, due to false promises.

Collage by MHProNews.

There is no free lunch.  Democrats can promise things that they can’t pay for, just as has occurred in Venezuela.  Look at Detroit under Democratic rule and bad trade policies.

Free Trade or Economic War?

The choices are increasingly clear.

But one must look beyond emotional manipulations, to the facts and evidence. In about 20 months, much has been accomplished.  Give the 45th president the Congress and Supreme Court Justice he needs to finish the job he has started so well.

Stunning Degree of Corruption, Collusion, Manipulation, and Ignorance Threatens MHVille

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie.” – Joseph Goebbels, Adolf Hitler’s minster of propaganda, per the Jewish Virtual Library, and citing ThinkExist.

Earlier this week, after the news of the Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen verdict and guilty pleas, The Drudge Report noted that the mainstream media had used the word “impeach” over 200 times in 24 hours.

There is no degree in medicine or psychology needed to realize that when something is repeated that often, in so short a time span, it has an impact on a significant part of the population.

There is no need to buy into a ‘conspiracy theory,’ because facts are facts. It’s about looking at the evidence dispassionately, not emotionally, because emotions are what’s often manipulated. Understanding the truth of an issue in doubt or controversy is about considering the evidence about an issue from several angles.  That’s how the truth is discovered in turbulent times.

The odds of impeaching Donald J. Trump are arguably low, because the constitutional requirements sets a two tier process, neither one of which is easy to meet. “At the federal level, Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 of the Constitution grants to the House of Representatives “the sole power of impeachment”, and Article I, Section 3, Clause 6 grants to the Senate “the sole Power to try all Impeachments,” per Wikipedia.

So in this case, the phrase “impeachment” is more about its usefulness as a political narrative tool. It is a rallying cry for those who lost the last election. Democrats, Republicans and all others are being asked to respond to the notion of impeachment in the upcoming midterms.

Facts are facts no matter how often lies are repeated. The byline writer is an MD by training, and thus had to take psychology as part of the courses needed to obtain a medical degree. With that understanding, it is stunning to note that several notable attorneys, including Democratic supporter Alan Dershowitz, has cast doubt that any crime has been committed by the Donald J. Trump in the alleged payments – even if those payments to porn stars took place.

Attorney, author, radio and TV talker Mark Levin has said that an abuse of power has taken place. Why?  Because former Trump attorney Michael Cohen plead guilty to a crime that is in fact no crime at all.  That being so, it would directly reflect on high levels of the Department of Justice (DoJ) too. Those are views held by other attorneys, and of course, the other side has their taking heads too.

So, to discern reality, one must step back and reflect on the evidence and competing claims.

It was so-called “Russian collusion” that was the supposed predicate for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe. Why did that fall into the background?  Simply put, no evidence exists for it.  All that exists are often repeated allegations, with no proof offered, other than a dicey dossier paid for in part by the Clinton campaign.

A juror in the Paul Manafort case, who admits she voted for Donald Trump, said Manafort was guilty of the tax related crimes he was accused of, but said she believed the matter only came to light because President Trump is the target. They want to get him any way that they can.

The mostly progressive voices on the compelling documentary video Shadows of Liberty, linked below, stressed the high degree of control of the news media in America by 6 major conglomerates. They decide what is news, said former CBS anchor Dan Rather and a host of others cited in the documentary video have said.

“Shadows of Liberty” Movie Introduction, Affordable Housing, and You

President Trump doesn’t say that all news in America is corrupted. But the president – and the White House press room, which supplies MHProNews with numerous daily updates – do say that significant portions of the media reflect a strong bias against him.

As if to prove the point, the Boston Globe organized over 300 newspapers to do editorials that say that the news media is not the “enemy of the people.” But what the president has clarified is that it is fake news that’s the enemy, and not all news is fake.

Deepa Kumar quote from from the thought-provoking video documenatary, Shadows of Liberty, posted on the page linked here.

No Choir Boy

The Access Hollywood/Billy Bush video in 2016 made it abundantly clear to Americans that candidate Donald J. Trump was not a choir boy. Evangelicals, blue collar, and others nevertheless turned out to vote for him by the tens of millions. Normally blue states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania flipped for Donald Trump, knowing about allegations very much in keeping with what porn star Stormy Daniels or others like her have more recently allege.

People voted to make Donald Trump President based upon his policies, and/or to oppose the policies of Secretary Hillary Clinton.

A massive smear campaign is clearly underway. It is not unlike the Billy Bush video of Donald Trump in 2016, hoping to separate the president from his supporters.  It is insignificant if the claims of Daniels – or if an army of hookers – stepped forward and proved their ‘relationships’ with candidate or citizen Trump.  Legal experts say that it is not illegal to pay someone to be quiet. All else is routinely a repeated smoke screen, advanced by those who have an anti-Trump agenda.

Note, this advice holds for MHVille trade media readers too. Thanks for more than doubling our already industry- leading readership in the last 12 months. Our thanks too for our supporters, who make this platform possible.

MHVille and Why it Matters

For MHVille:

  • S 2155 would never have taken place under Hillary Clinton, if she held true to her promises to defend Dodd-Frank and the CFPB.
  • Secretary Clinton would not have done the tax cuts.  Virtually every manufactured home industry business has benefited from that, as have the majority of workers.
  • It was candidate Trump who pledged – and has kept his word – that he would massively roll back regulations.  There was no such pledge by Clinton.  As Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and others are proving, if the GOP lost control of Congress, regulations could come roaring back with a vengeance.
  • Jobs in mining, energy, and manufacturing are returning under President Trump.  Then President Barack Obama mocked Mr. Trump about during the campaign, that those jobs and industries would never come back. Secretary Clinton doubled down on comments like “the deplorables.” She too spoke about jobs that would never come back, which are now, due to the 45th president’s leadership.

Certainly, even many Trump supporters are not comfortable with certain tweets and tactics.

But in spite of a historic blizzard of news coverage that is some 90 percent against him, POTUS Trump’s approval has been rising nationally. Black and other minority support has nearly doubled since he took office. Among the clear reasons why is the lowest unemployment levels in decades.  Business and consumer confidence alike have soared during his time in office.

Mr. Trump is a businessman, who comes from the housing and construction fields.  What more needs be said, is reflected by the MHARR video interview, shown below.  It must be emphasized for clarity, that MHARR takes no sides in political campaigns. They have no PAC, as MHI does.  So when prior MHARR President, now senior advisor, Danny Ghorbani speaks about the president and his administration in this short interview, that must be kept in mind.

The midterms are racing up. Congressional voting is just over two months away. The agenda-driven voices in the media apparently hope to smear the president, and suppress turnout among his supporters.

Dan Rather quote from the compelling video, Shadows of Liberty, posted on the page linked here.

Would MHVille be helped or harmed by a GOP loss of the House, or the Senate?

Full Measure’s Sharyl Attiksson’s media bias chart is useful in sorting out the agendas behind various headlines and news sources. Learn more, with the Shadows of Liberty video, linked here.

That’s a critical issue – what’s best for MHVille and the nation – that you and your peers must answer. That is what you and your circle of influence must decide before you vote, or sit on your buns come midterm Election Day.

Repeating a lie, or using an exaggerated narrative for an agenda, doesn’t make it true.

Facts can be nettlesome things.

For decades, numerous people have postured being the friend of minorities, while falsely claiming their opponents where bigots, racists, or some other slur.

This video shows Donald Trump being praised for a lifetime of achievement in providing minorities with opportunities.

The man praising him in more than one clip in this short video montage is Democratic backer, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

As the Daily Business News reported last week, Hershel Walker is but one of several black and Latino personalities and leaders who say that Donald Trump is a “great man.” Those who know him say he isn’t racist, anti-Semitic or anti-immigration.

That some would say otherwise is clearly disproven by these third-party witnesses. His own daughter Ivanka is Jewish. His wife Melania has a heavy accent, because she is an immigrant.

Previous historic videos of the builder/businessman Donald Trump show him saying Oprah Winfrey could be a good running mate. That ways years before Senator Barack Obama became president. On the clip from Oprah featuring Trump, from some 30 years ago, he lays out thinking very similar to what he has today.

Over the years, now President Trump changed on issues like abortion, and moved from being a Democrat to a Republican. But on race, for decades, there was the opposite of outrage, he was seen as inclusive to women, minorities, and others.

Then why the faked, ignorant or phony outrage?

Manufactured Housing and President Trump

Those who have an agenda are clearly willing to use the tool of the big lie, repeated often enough, to divide and control enough people in order to ‘rule over’ them.

While there is a division on President Trump within the industry, as there is across America, his-policies have been widely hailed as good for the industry, and good for business. That’s been reflected in numerous ways.

So why would Warren Buffett promote people, positions, and politicians that on the surface are arguably harmful to his own business interests?

There are several ways that the industry can survive and thrive in this era of billionaires battling.

But first, one must understand that manufactured housing is the future, not the past.  That their are billionaires who get it, and want what MH has to offer.

Then, one must look at what the wise are doing, that are causing them to thrive with honor, and deliver not only homes, but happy customers.

The GOP is watching as veteran senators and congressional representatives are announcing they will not seek reelection.

With a mostly left-tilting mainstream media, per third party research such as what’s shown linked here, it’s the GOP splits that tend to make more headlines.

But on the Democratic side, there are fractures too.  They can’t be over-emphasized, as in both the Senate and House, Democrats tend to hang together on the partisan issues.

Yet, it’s the growing scandals coming out of the 2016 race that threatens to upend some big names in Democratic politics.

The four videos shown – two from left-of-center media outlets, and two from right-of-center Fox Business – provide snapshots on issues raised last week on the Daily Business News on the Donna Brazile revelations, as well as some insights from MSNBC on how the so-called Russian dossier was bought and paid for mostly by the Clinton campaign, and the DNC.

With voting tomorrow, 2018 and 2020 on political insiders minds, these developments could shake up the Democratic landscape as much as Donald Trump has shaken up the Republican Establishment.

“Season of War” Against “Establishment,” Manufactured Housing, and You

October 16th, 2017 Comments off

ASeasonofWarPixabayDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsI am certainly not one of those who need to be prodded.
In fact, if anything, I am the prod
.” – Winston Churchill.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…
a time of war, and a time of peace
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, and the lyrics for the pop song, Turn, Turn, Turn.

The manufactured housing industry in several ways tends to mirror the nation.  So, there are individuals working in the industry across the political and economic spectrum.

But as the pre-election surveys by the NYTimes MHLivingNews and MHProNews reflected, a clear majority of the industry’s professionals voted for Donald Trump – and for what Jim Clayton called the 45th president’s “disruptor” agenda.

It’s not a news flash, but it should be.  Manufactured housing is misunderstood, as are some of the causes for the industry not advancing more quickly.

But almost as misunderstood is clarity – or the lack thereof – of some pundits and media when it comes to Donald J. Trump and how he operates.  The same might be said of POTUS Trump’s former White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon.

Steve’s been a friend of mine for a long time,” said the president today, per a report by CNN.  Others in media spanning the left-right divide reported the same.  CNN’s narrative seemed to paint Bannon and Trump as being at odds after his departure from the West Wing.

But the president is apparently playing all sides, as part of his “art of the deal” to advance tax reform and other items in his agenda.

Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump, Salon.

Many on the left – and right – appear to be confused.

Many in the media, left and right, are seemingly misreading the Trump/Bannon relationship, and strategies.

But for those who’ve closely followed the unorthodox methods that now POTUS Trump launched some 27 months ago may have missed what the Daily Business News previously reported regarding Dr. Keith Ablow insights on the president.

Ablow, a FOX News contributor, mentioned early in the Trump Administration that the president is playing the media, allowing some controversy to distract their attention, as he advances his agenda.

RC Williams observed with Ablow, that it was political and media chess,” like the “epic Ali-Foreman,” “Rope a Dope” – could President Trump be zigging, while everyone else is zagging?”

“A Season of War…”

Bannon told the Value Voters Summit just days ago that he would be backing insurgent candidates against every Republican Senate incumbent, save Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Bannon made it plain there was plenty of time to later regroup and focus on Democrats.

But for now, it was time to defeat those who were failing the president and the agenda that moved voters to deliver the White House, Senate and House to the GOP.

It’s a takeover of the Republican Party that Bannon has in mind.

President Trump, just hours before saying how well he was getting along with Mitch McConnell, said that he understood Bannon’s objectives.  See Trump/McConnell in the report, linked here.

It was reminiscent of what MHProNews previously reported as the “head fake” that gave Trump a win-win in the Alabama primary last month, when Luther Strange was upended by Bannon-supported Judge Roy Moore.

Bannon is leading his flagship web-publication Breitbart – which Harvard and others on the left have after analysis decided is “not alt right” – in his war to purify the GOP, to become more loyal to the president’s America First agenda.

Bannon was a key player in the strategy that helped craft a Reagan-like coalition of “working class” Democrats in states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

That delivered the White House to President Trump, and gave the GOP a surprising, if narrow, majority in the Senate.

Part of their strategy has been a:

  • strong on borders,
  • tougher on trade,
  • policies that are good for labor,
  • the working class,
  • to foster rising wages,
  • and ending what economist Larry Kudlow called the governments “war on business.”

An in depth look at the cost of regulations, how it harms smaller businesses more than larger ones, and how MH industry state and national associations compare. Some surprising facts await.

POTUS Trump’s and Bannon’s concerns over monopolies ought to raise eyebrows in the manufactured housing space.

So instead of chasing tweaks like Preserving Access, or the like, Trump/Bannon are serious about their bolder promises to roll back Dodd-Frank, ObamaCare, get tax reform, accomplish entitlement reform, and liberate the economy from other parts of the Obama/left agenda completely.

For those objectively following developments, the president, Bannon, Kudlow and others are likely triangulating.  The president has himself stated his “never quit” attitude.

Will this effort to replace decades of GOP and Democratic policies that the Team Trump believe have harmed business, and millions of American workers succeed?

Only 9 months into this administration, much has already been accomplished. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, commentary.)

Zell Speaks on Economic Opportunities

February 24th, 2017 Comments off

Sam Zell, ELS Chair, credit, MHProNews.

Sam Zell, a name familiar to the manufactured housing industry, spoke to TheStreet recently at a conference in Boca Raton, Florida, about the “staggering economic opportunity” for the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

Trump’s vow to cut government regulation could lead to one trillion of (economic) stimulus without spending anything, while Obama added $1 trillion to U.S. debt to prop up the U.S. economy,” said Zell.

The business magnate and chairman of Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) said that eliminating a number of rules that hurt businesses needing help, will cut down on unnecessary expenses and create confidence for entrepreneurs who would otherwise be fearful of the federal government stepping in to suffocate their investment.

If the U.S. just reverses what it stopped during the Obama administration, the stimulative effect will be extraordinary, said Zell.

While Zell tends to agree with Trump on immigration, he’s had strong words regarding  anti-immigration sentiment by some in the U.S.

The United States has been the leader in the world for 200 years because it’s had a very aggressive immigration policy,” said Zell.

Credit: Seeking Alpha.

I think that this current period of anti-immigration is very dangerous to the future of our country.

But, he’s a staunch opponent of so called “sanctuary cities,” which he believes are a threat.

I’m a rule of law guy. If immigration and other laws aren’t enforced ultimately, you’ll destroy the society,” said Zell.

How does San Francisco justify writing its own version of the constitution?

With his extensive investments both inside and outside of the U.S., Zell remains a fan of free trade, but he supports the Trump Administration moves to renegotiate some of the trade deals.

Many of our free trade agreements are a combination of free trade and foreign policy pacts that don’t optimize economic benefits for the U.S. and instead are designed to improve diplomatic relations with trading partners, said Zell.

Before NAFTA we didn’t have a trade deficit with Mexico, afterwards we have a $60 billion deficit. Mexico, by the way, post-NAFTA has a $60 billion trade deficit with China. The U.S. thus helped Mexico’s trade picture while worsening its own. We are putting a price on the back of free trade.

New agreements must be good for the U.S. and, ultimately, that will be what is good for the free world,” said Zell.

As Daily Business News readers are aware, leaders in business, including Zell, clearly understand the significant business opportunity in manufactured housing.

Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway, which owns Clayton Homes, and independents such as John Bostick with Sunshine Homes are “doubling down” on the industry, with Zell being quoted as saying during this interview “Everyone calls them trailer parks. Pencil head, it’s not a trailer park.

Small Business Optimism Index: January Results

February 17th, 2017 Comments off

Credit: Oprah.

Almost one month into the Donald Trump administration, things continue to look up.

According to the National Federal of Independent Business (NFIB) survey, small business confidence, which saw the largest month-over-month increase in the survey’s history in December, has now reached its highest point in more than a decade.

The stunning climb in optimism after the election was significantly improved in

December and confirmed in January,” said NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan.

Small business owners like what they see so far from Washington.

The Index reached 105.9 in January, an increase of 0.1 points, the highest point since December 2004.

The continued surge in optimism is a welcome sign that economic growth is coming,” said NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg.

The very positive expectations that we see in our data have already begun translating into hiring and spending in the small business sector.

Credit: NFIB.

The NFIB survey is a monthly snapshot of small businesses in the U.S., which account for most private-sector jobs and about half of the country’s economic output. Economists look to the report for a read on domestic demand and to extrapolate hiring and wage trends in the broader economy.

Credit: NFIB.

The January jobs report surprised pundits and disappointed critics, coming in strong and well ahead of ‘consensus,” said Dunkelberg.

NFIB survey results anticipated the strong showing as their optimism gets translated into hiring action. Gains in expected sales require more workers to produce output and handle sales. The increase in labor force participation was a welcome sign, suggesting that labor markets are not as tight as the unemployment rate indicates which went up, and that, as opportunities materialize and compensation rises, more workers will re-enter the labor force.

The report from the NFIB is based on a survey of 1,874 small business owners. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), small companies represent 99 percent of all U.S. Employers.

We’ve had very low growth for years, mainly because small businesses have been tied down by regulations, taxes, and spiraling health insurance costs,” said Duggan.

Now they can see relief on the horizon, and they are much more optimistic about the future.

NAHB Commentary On Dodd-Frank Rollback

February 9th, 2017 Comments off

Trump signs the Dodd-Frank Executive Order. Credits: NBC News, NAHB.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has expressed support of President Donald Trump’s actions to roll back the Dodd-Frank Act.

As Daily Business News readers are aware, President Trump signed an Executive Order to begin the rollback process that will direct the Treasury secretary to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial oversight law, which reshaped financial regulation after the 2008-09 financial crisis.

Dodd-Frank is a disaster, said Trump, during a meeting last week with small business owners, including NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan

We’re going to do a big number on Dodd-Frank.

NAHB commends President Trump on his announcement to reform regulations in the Dodd-Frank Act that have hampered our nation’s housing recovery and slowed economic growth,” said NAHB Chairman Granger MacDonald.

Granger MacDonald. Credit: Builder Magazine.

We support common-sense regulations to protect American consumers and preserve our nation’s banking system, however, the tight lending conditions created by Dodd-Frank are preventing too many home builders from receiving loans and restricting mortgage financing to credit-worthy borrowers.

The Daily Business News, MHProNews and MHLivingNews have covered Dodd-Frank and its impact on the manufactured housing industry extensively, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Their impact on affordable housing has, in essence, created a “Renter’s Nation”.

Don Glisson, CEO of Triad Financial Services, has a very intimate understanding of the impacts both agencies have on the industry.

Our compliance costs have quadrupled in the past three years alone,” said Glisson.

We are the answer to the country’s affordable housing issues, but we don’t get fair treatment at the federal level. There are no MH dwellers inside the Beltway, so we must not be a good housing choice in their eyes. Government is taking sides and it’s harming the very middle-class they profess to want to help.

MacDonald has a similar line of thinking.

Regulatory relief for mortgage lenders and small and mid-sized banks that serve their communities is critical for the nation’s housing recovery,” said MacDonald.

NAHB has been calling for reduced regulatory burden on real estate lending since Dodd-Frank’s passage in 2010.” ##
