President Trump Mulls Federal Action Intervening on Homeless Crisis in U.S. Cities

Still from the first video, posted below.

Tucker Carlson Tonight (TCT) had an exclusive interview with President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump that was aired on 7.1.2019.  It covered foreign and domestic affairs. It included concerns over antitrust or monopolistic related issues, but also on the growing problems of homelessness in America.

The first segment of part two of that interview begins with questions about the power of big tech over the marketplace.  From that, is this POTUS Trump pull-quote: “A lot of people want us to take [federal antitrust, other legal] action against Facebook, Twitter and frankly against Amazon.”

When asked by Carlson if the Trump Administration will take action, the 45th president demurred, saying “I can’t say,” meaning he is not able to comment.

About halfway through this video below on right-of-center Fox News, Carlson pivots to a comparison of the cleanliness of Japanese cities compared to many in the United States.

Carlson named New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles as examples of cities with a homeless problem.  These are among the places that MHProNews and our sister site have reported on or mentioned previously.

The president said, “Its disgraceful…We are looking at it very seriously. You can’t do that,” meaning allow such problems to occur.

The president said that people and police officers are getting sick just from walking the streets were human waste and other troubling issues are occurring routinely, as was dramatically documented in the viral “Seattle is Dying” video report.

SeattleisDyingAreCitiesNearYouDyingTooHighCostsCorruptedSystemsManufacturedHousingPotentialSilverLiningMHProNEws

“…You can’t do that, you can’t ruin our cities,” the president told Carlson. He said it is the “liberal Establishment” that runs those cities. “It’s a terrible thing that is taking place.”

The president said that shortly after he took office, that he addressed similar issues that were occurring in “certain places in Washington, D.C. where that was starting to happen.”

POTUS Trump said he ended it “very quickly” because you can’t have world leaders coming and witnessing that in the nation’s capital.

After putting it in the context of the prior beauty of San Francisco, where Trump branded companies have business interests, he said, “We are looking at that very seriously.

Do these governors or mayors” where these troubling issues are occurring “really think this is a positive?” rhetorically asked the president. He said the problems with homelessness wasn’t okay, and “It’s destroying a whole way of life.”

The first part of the same interview is posted below.  It dealt more with trade and foreign affairs.

How Does This Homeless Issue Relate to Affordable Housing, and Manufactured Homes?

That too is a rhetorical question, because the connection should be obvious. The recent White House announcement of an executive order that established a council to address the barriers to affordable housing is arguably a predicate to whatever the Trump Administration is preparing to do.

“…the Water’s Edge”

June 29th, 2019 Comments off

TheWatersEdgeFrmrPresidentJimmyCarterPresidentDonaldJTrumpDailyBusinessNewsManufacturedHousingIndustryMHProNews

The 1980s was the first full decade that HUD Code manufactured housing – as distinguished from pre-code mobile homes – existed.

It was during the early 1980s that manufactured housing – even with interest rates often as high as 21 percent on an adjustable rate loan – that new HUD Code manufactured home sales were more than double the rate nationally that occur today.

The 1980s witnessed the S&L crisis.  They were the years of the Reagan Administration. And in those years the brother of the prior president – Jimmy Carter’s sibling Billy Carter – became a professional promoter of manufactured homes.  Imagine the stir that would occur if the brother of Barack Obama were promoting manufactured housing?

SamScottJudyCazelPresidentJimmyCarterBrotherBillyCarterJimCazelManufacturedHousingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

Photo taken while Billy Carter was working for a manufactured home industry producer to promote their brand.  Learn more, at this link here. What’s noteworthy in the recent Democratic presidential debates is that very little was said about affordable housing, much less, manufactured homes.  See the report linked here. By contrast, the Trump Administration has specifically included manufactured homes in their recent executive order, see that, linked here.

One could go further to identify other direct and indirect impacts and connections between former President Carter, affordable housing, and manufactured homes. One example that should leap to mind is the Habitat for Humanity program.

But none of those are the focus today. Rather, they are the backdrop to the latest example of the erosion of yet another long-standing American principle that politics stopped at “the water’s edge.”

WhenItComestoForeignPolicyItisImportToRememberthatPolticsstopsAttheWater'sEdgeHillaryClintonAZQuotesMHProNews

Hillary Clinton wasn’t the first to say it, but AZ Quotes cites her, which is fine. Presidents William Taft and George W. Bush are among others who have said similarly.

What the expression of ‘politics stopping at the waters edge’ meant in part was that when the American president was overseas, there were no cheap shots or efforts to undermine his – or potentially, her – administration. Years before Donald J. Trump said “America First,” Democrats and Republicans largely agreed that each must put the national interest over partisan gameplaying.

That mantra of politics stopping at the waters edge largely held for decades between Democrats and Republicans. Even news media toned it down when a president of either party was overseas.  Why?  Because it was in the best interests of the country to do so. To do otherwise would give fodder to political and economic opponents overseas.

Much has happened since those somewhat more collegial days in our industry and others, or in American politics.

While President Donald J. Trump is in Japan for the G20 Summit meetings, former President Carter alleged on 6.28.2019 that the 45th president is in the Oval Office because of election interference by the Russians. The video clip is below.

Jimmy Carter suggesting that President Trump is somehow illegitimate because of Russian election meddling is absurd on several levels. Not the least of which was Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s recent findings to the contrary. There was no collusion, said Mueller’s investigation and others in Congress.  They reflected a total lack of evidence that Russian interference changed any votes. Russians were indicted in 2016 election meddling, but not one American was indicted for that cause.  But the issue begs a larger question.  How common is election meddling historically?

Election Meddling U.S. Politics, and Policy

The idea of interfering in the foreign affairs of other nations is hardly new. The U.S. and Russia – including the old Soviet Union – have each ‘interfered’ in the internal affairs of each other’s and numerous other country’s internal affairs for decades. Right or wrong, that’s part of what a given nation’s spy services do.

There was U.S. involvement in Russian elections. One example?  Per Wikipedia,The first Russian president Boris Yeltsin won his second term in the 1996 presidential elections.

A team of private US citizens, campaign experts organized by Felix Braynin, provided assistance to the Yeltsin campaign.[40] The team consisted of Steven Moore, Joe Shumate, George Gorton and Richard Dresner, who worked in Russia four months and received $250,000, plus payment of all costs and unlimited budget to conduct surveys and other activities.[41]

Simultaneously the US administration ensured a US$10.2 billion IMF loan to Russia[42] as it was drowning in the economic and social disaster, to keep the national economy and pro-Western liberal government afloat.[43] The loan funds were fraudulently misused by Yeltsin’s inner circle, and the IMF knowingly turned a blind eye to these facts.[44] Although the aggressive pro-Yeltsin campaign boosted his approval rate from an initial 6%[45] to the 35% that he got during the first round of elections, and later made him win the second round against the left-wing competitor with 54% to 40%, there were wide speculations that the official results were rigged.”[46]

Former President Barack Obama’s Administration allegedly interfered with Israel’s election in 2016, notes Wikipedia.

During the administration of President Barack Obama, the U.S. State Department sent $350,000 to an Israeli organization, OneVoice, which used the funds to try to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”[28]

The overview of how Wikipedia introduces the notion of electoral interference in the elections of foreign nations is even more sobering, and therefore, more important to be aware of on this hot-button topic.

Theoretical and empirical research on the effect of foreign electoral intervention had been characterized as weak overall as late as 2011; however, since then a number of such studies have been conducted.[1] One study indicated that the country intervening in most foreign elections is the United States with 81 interventions, followed by Russia (including the former Soviet Union) with 36 interventions from 1946 to 2000—an average of once in every nine competitive elections.”[2][3][4][5]

The bottom line is that none of this election tampering concerns are new. Are millions in this nation going to be so naïve as to believe that the Chinese or other nations aren’t doing the same as the Russians?

The 2016 instance of Russian ‘election meddling’ has been arguably overblown because one political party and their media allies didn’t like the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Then President Barack Obama Said It

Left-of-center Poltifact, in it’s narrative about voter fraud, cited this quote from former President Obama in the weeks before the 2016 election: “But the larger point that I want to emphasize here is that there is no serious person out there who would suggest somehow that you could even rig America’s elections, in part because they’re so decentralized and the numbers of votes involved. There’s no evidence that that has happened in the past, or that there are instances in which that will happen this time. And so I’d advise Mr. Trump to stop whining and go try to make his case to get votes.”

Frankly, while the first phrase has some merit, what followed in that quote from former President Obama claim is obviously dubious, as the election interference study referenced by Wikipedia cited above reveals.

Richard Nixon was convinced that there was domestic election cheating in key states in 1960 that gave the White House to John F. Kenney. Nixon, right or wrong, kept largely silent about the matter.

Thus, what former President Carter did yesterday was just the latest example of a more openly polarized political climate. Carter’s was a political claim, demonstrably misleading, and not worthy of an elder statesman who has debatably done more outside of the Oval Office than during his years in it.

Former Democrat turned Republican President Ronald Reagan was able to get legislation passed during a Democratic dominated Congress. Similarly, House Speaker Newt Gingrich (GOP) likewise found common ground with former President Bill Clinton (D).  Bipartisan bills were passed even as impeachment hearings for Clinton’s lying under oath occurred. For those lies, Clinton was disbarred, not just impeached. Indeed, the First Step Act is but one of several examples of bipartisanship that is occurring even in the current political climate.

Follow the facts, follow the evidence, and follow the money. Ask, who benefits?

It was during the waning days of the Clinton administration that the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000 (MHIA) was passed into law. These historic lessons are reminders to us today of reality vs. spin and narratives.  Spin or deception occur with a desire to influence people.  Ironically, those who claim that Russia – which by all accounts did meddle, only their vote-changing efforts were unsuccessful – interfered with the 2016 election are guilty of attempting to manipulate people and their votes too. Put differently, Russian meddling – while real enough – is in it practical impact largely a head fake.

That’s why fact-checks and historic context are useful gauges to see who is being accurate, and who is spinning a web of deception. Which then begs the question, why? Why the ongoing lies and deceit?

The 45th President Donald J. Trump won the 2016 election because he campaigned in key states that Secretary Hillary Clinton largely or completely ignored. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania went Republican for the first time in years as a result. There are those who disagree with President Trump’s style, sense of humor, negotiating tactics, and policy perspectives. Failure to admit reality betrays an impression of weakness by Democrats and their allies, whose policies the Trump Administration are challenging day-by-day. Rephrased, there apparently are Democratic strategists who believe that it is safer to lie or attempt to deceive in order win votes than it is to debate issues on actual historic outcomes and the merits.

There is an ongoing effort by some to obscure history.

There are several factors that should be understood to explain the rises and falls in the sales, production, and shipments of new factory-built homes during the varied mobile home and manufactured home eras. One should not be overly simplistic. That said, the historic trend was far higher before Berkshire Hathaway acquired Clayton Homes and their affiliated lenders. Political and other factors enter into the mix as well.

Still from video, posted further below.

Love him.

Hate him.

The unsure and uncertain.

Whatever your view of the president, there is one thing that is certain.  A single tweet from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – or wherever the 45th president happens to be – can change the course of the top news story for the day.

Democratic front-runner Joe Biden, per a mainstream media source, said the president’s name some 86 times in a recent public appearance. As the head of the Republican Party, whose symbol is the elephant, the headline is an apt reference to President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump.

The Democrats will have their first debates on June 26 and 27 in Miami, per CNN.

While there are rumblings of a challenge of President Trump among Republicans, there is nothing serious at this time. Last night, in a packed Amway Center arena in Orlando, FL, POTUS Trump formally launched his reelection bid.

President Trump’s campaign slogan this time? “Keep America Great.”

“A Rigged System…”

There are several things in the United States that fits President Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders’ description of a ‘rigged system.’

Senator Sanders, VT-I, who is running as a self-styled Democratic Socialist for the Democratic Party nomination for president got the short end of the stick in 2016 in his race against Secretary Hillary Clinton. Former DNC Chair Donna Brazile, who has become a Fox News contributor, stressed several times during her book tour for Hacks that she found clear evidence that the Democratic Party and tilted the scales against Sanders.

The United States is a republic with democratic elements to the system. But for decades, there has been what Senator Rand Paul (KY-R) has called an “unholy alliance” between the two major parties. In dozens of states, ‘ballot access’ is not an easy process. That’s no accident. That’s designed to create a duopoly between Democrats and Republicans.

As political independents, we are believers that ballot access should be far more easy for third parties to achieve. At present, while it is up in the air if billionaire Howard Schultz, of Starbucks fame, will in fact follow through with his threat for a serious independent campaign for the presidency, it is worth mentioning that the last serious such effort was by another billionaire, Ross Perot.

Monopolization takes on many forms, and political monopolization is one of them.  While it is not technically a monopoly, duopoly and oligopoly are variations on the theme. As the definitions below reflect, collusion between such parties can create thinly veiled forms of control over large numbers of people.

There are certainly distinctions between Democrats and Republicans, so MHProNews does not fall into the camp that claims that there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the two major parties.  Of course, there are differences.

But the uber rich, their corporations, their nonprofits, and political action committees (PACs) can provide funding to candidates on both sides of an issue in a variety of ways that masks what is occurring to all but a few who pay close attention to the details.

DuopolyOligopyMonopolyWikiDefinitionManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Warren Buffett, the Manufactured Housing Institute, and Politics

Warren Buffett is the well-known chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. He’s routinely cited as the third richest man on earth.  He is buddies with the other uber-wealthy, such as mega-billionaires Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates. With Bezos, Buffett’s Berkshire now has clear ties through roughly a billion dollars’ worth of stock in Bezos-led Amazon. With Microsoft founder Gates, Buffett has long had ties too.  Among them are Buffett’s contributions in billions of dollars’ worth of Berkshire stock to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, of which the Gates foundation website says Buffett is a trustee.

Bezos, Gates and Buffett are among those billionaires who routinely support Democrats. That is, within the norms of the law and morality, their right, just as some give to Republicans or others.

But there is clear and compelling evidence – publicly undisputed at this time by those in question – that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) is dominated by a few power players.  Chief among those are Berkshire subsidiaries, including Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corporation, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, and a range of other firms, including Shaw, various brokerage firms and companies like Wells Fargo that isn’t owned by Berkshire, yet Berkshire routinely has nearly the legal limit in Wells Fargo stock holdings.

There are several paths that money – including for political campaigns – can easily flow through with relative difficult to detect.

By de facto controlling MHI, the Berkshire brands have effective control over their MHI PAC. There are prominent Democrats, such as former MHI Nathan Smith of SSK Communities, who are involved in the MHI PAC. Smith chairs the MHI PAC on this date, per the MHI website.

MHIPacManufacturedHousingInstitutePAC6192019DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Our recent exclusive and data-driven report linked below reflects that the MHI PAC tends to donate more to Republicans than Democrats, but give to both. That means, they are buying influence with politicians in both major parties, who in turn tend to do what they want.

Democrats? Republicans? Political Campaigns Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) PAC Supported

That must be kept in mind when issues such as the failed Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act come up for votes. For years, there was Buffett backing President Obama and candidate Hillary Clinton, which pledged to pass and protect from change the Dodd-Frank legislation. Meanwhile, the MHI PAC and MHI itself were lobbying to ‘pass’ Preserving Access. But Buffett’s and Berkshire’s fingerprints are also on organizations such as Prosperity Now.

Prosperity Now, Nonprofits Sustain John Oliver’s “Mobile Homes” Video in Their Reports

Rephrased, Buffett and his money are on both sides of key issues to the industry.  The reports linked above and below outline how this can veil artificial headwinds used by Berkshire as ‘sharks in the water’ in their ‘strategic moat.

This is how monopolistic style power over the marketplace is forged.

President Trump, and presidential hopefuls like Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, can claim that they are to a degree immune from being ‘bought and paid for’ by major donors.

But there are so many nuanced ways that money and influence flow that it is not easy to affirm such assertions with certainty. Should Warren become her party’s nominee, for example, at that point she is certainly going to be subject to all the influence groups that exert power over the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

We Provide, You Decide

MHProNews led the way in prior election cycles in providing political coverage and analysis in manufactured housing.  Few things have more influence over business than politics does, because the laws are made and enforced by politicos and their allies.

We will provide fair and balanced coverage of President Trump’s reelection effort, as well as coverage of serious independents and of the Democratic field too.

The President’s kick off rally last night was carried by a CSPAN channel, but there was a glitch during part of their broadcast.  So, both the Fox News and the CBS versions of the president’s kickoff rally are posted below.

Note that Major Garrett, with CBS News shared some fascinating insights from Brad Parscale, who heads up the Trump 2020 campaign effort.  It is worth watching, as it goes into the issue of public polling and its accuracy. The Fox News video below includes Vice President Mike Pence, who introduced President Trump and First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) Melania Trump, who also briefly addressed the packed Amway Center.

The past roughly 2½ years has revealed that America can attract back capital that fled overseas.  Jobs once thought lost, can be recovered. This is a matter of policy and law.

  • Complex and higher taxes,
  • complex regulations,
  • access to capital and credit,
  • meaningful access to the political system,
  • media access and influence

are all arguably tilted in the favor of larger companies and conglomerates. As a pro-manufactured housing industry publisher that is also pro-consumer, we believe there is a clear trail of evidence that Berkshire brands, working at times in concert with a relatively small group of other major players, has de facto rigged the system in manufactured housing.

The result of that is an industry has fewer shipments today than the year that Buffett led Berkshire entered the industry in 2003. At the same time, the market share of Clayton Homes has grown dramatically.  Are these coincidences?

Or is it a coincidence that Berkshire’s strong influence over manufactured home lending has arguably been exerted to redirect the efforts of the GSEs away from the majority of manufactured homes, as the law intended, to only a small select number of a ‘new class’ of far more costly manufactured homes that was and is supported by Clayton Homes and MHI?

These are matters that merit congressional and other investigations. Indeed, Clayton is being investigated by several federal agencies, some of which is covered in the mainstream news video below.

Here on MHProNews, our slogan has long been, “We Provide, You Decide.” © We share the evidence, the money trail, and the facts in a way that others can follow, step-by-step.  That makes your ability to plan – especially as an independent business or investor – that much easier.

DearTonySoheylaNoGreaterResourceSpeakstoIssuesOpportunitiesWeFaceAsIndependentRetailersGusRodriguezTejasHomesTX

Gus’ message came in response to a series of exposes on issues within manufactured housing, as well as tips, strategies and opportunities.

But it isn’t easy.

For years, we’ve been peeling the onion of an arguably rigged system in manufactured housing back, one layer at a time.  We’ve given Clayton, 21st, MHI and their outside attorney a chance to respond to such concerns and allegations.  Up until 2¼ years ago, they routinely responded readily and promptly.  But since that time, they’ve been largely mute. It was during that last 2+ years that MHProNews got closer to the various methods and ways that the system has been rigged in favor of certain major players.  Is it a coincidence that they’ve taken the 5th as we revealed more information?

Nor should the published scandals surrounding the various most recent MHI Executive Committee leaders be ignored.

Our reports, fact-checks and analysis has perhaps resulted in a loss of ad revenues from MHI, Clayton, 21st and others that used to financially support this website. That is what it is, but it also meaningfully demonstrates that we are not swayed in our reports and analysis by advertising.

It is ‘fearless’ coverage that is based upon evidence, not mere opinion, that has made and kept us the runaway #1 trade media in all of manufactured housing. Buckle up, because there is more to come.

Whatever your views on the 45th president, the fact remains that he attracted enough Obama-Biden era voters to his cause in 2016 to crack the ‘blue wall,’ winning Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Battleground states of Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida went for candidate Trump too.

While their styles are obviously different, the Democrat turned Republican Ronald Reagan, and the Democrat turned Republican Donald J. Trump have both tapped into blue collar appeal. With a field of Democratic candidates that hovers around 2 dozen candidates, the possibility for some third-party candidacies, this promises to be a memorable electoral season.

Using mainstream polls, but adjusting for their ‘internals,’ MHProNews in 2016 predicted the upset win of Donald J. Trump as well as the GOP victories in the House and Senate.  Meanwhile, MHI and their team had two pro-Hillary Clinton speakers on their stage in Chicago mere days before the famous upset. Their high-dollar predictions proved wrong on several levels.

This is therefore demonstrably the manufactured housing industry’s best coverage. Sign up for our industry leading emailed headline news at the link above or further below the byline.

Patrick Caddell, pollster to Former President Jimmy Carter, Dies at 68

February 18th, 2019 Comments off

PatrickCaddellPollsterFormerPresidentJimmyCarterDies68DailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

The left-of-center New York Times dubbed Patrick Caddell as the self-taught pollster who helped propel an obscure Georgia peanut farmer – Jimmy Carter – onto the White House.

Right-of-center Townhall said, “Carter Pollster Turned MAGA Supporter” Pat Caddell “Has Passed Away.”  As MHProNews examines the emerging politics of the 2020 campaign, Caddell is an example of a man who adapted based upon circumstances.  He wasn’t a pure ideologue, as those who followed his colorful career know.

The AP gave a balanced perspective of the late Caddell, who died in Charleston, SC as a result of a stroke.  Consider the following pointers and pull quotes, which are timely for the topic of bipartisanship here on the Daily Business News in several ways.

As Daily Business News on MHProNews readers may recall, President Carter and his brother Billy played interesting roles with respect to the evolution of manufactured homes from the mobile homes of the past.

Quoting Caddell on his support for the upset win of Governor Jimmy Carter (GA-D), “In order to win, he had to articulate a sense of what had happened to the country through Vietnam and Watergate. If you go back and look at those speeches that he gave early in the campaign, he would talk about the damage to the country, its psychology,” Caddell stated as part of an oral history. “Essentially, what he [Carter] was running on in the campaign was that the country had been psychologically devastated by the previous decade of events. He was offering himself as a healer…”

PatrickCaddellConsultantPollsterWikiDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

To explain his split over the years from Democrats, Caddell said they party were no longer “a party of the people.”  He said they had been hijacked by elites, the well-educated, Wall Street and special interest groups.

Caddell said, per the AP, in a 2016 speech to students at Michigan’s Hillsdale College that he was offended when the Democratic national convention would not allow Pennsylvania Gov. Bob Casey Sr. to speak.  Casey Sr. was against abortion, and he was not allowed to deliver a convention speech. Carter’s former pollster considered the Democrats of being guilty of “the stifling of dissent.”

He explained his support for candidate Donald J. Trump for reaching out to those Democrats and others the party he once served were not effective in reaching.  Caddell said he admired now President Trump’s  willingness to take on “the political class.”

Stewart said Caddell died early Saturday at the hospital and had not been ill, so it was a surprise to those who knew him.

According to Professor Kendra Stewart, Caddell was a guest lecturer at the College of Charleston and the Citadel.

After escaping Washington, he sought refuge in L.A., where he was a writer and producer on ‘West Wing’ with Aaron Sorkin and consulted on other films such as ‘Outbreak,’ ‘Air Force One’ and ‘In the Line of Fire,’” Stewart told the AP.

These past years he has been consulting, conducting research and writing on the state of voter unrest and dissatisfaction with the political system. I worked with him through his company, Caddell Associates, on many of these projects,” Stewart stated. “He was a passionate man who wanted nothing more than to leave his grandchildren a better country.”

Take One – Data Driven U.S. Outlook in 2019 and MHVille

November 23rd, 2018 Comments off

TakeOneDataDrivenUSOutlook201MHVilleDailyBusinessNewsManufacturedHousingIndustryMHProNews

Propaganda works, but facts matter. In this take one on the 2019 outlook, we will focus on facts and evidence.

There are talking heads on cable news, in print or digital mainstream news media, who for some months have ‘talked down’ the U.S. economic forecast. Among their false claims is that the economic surge is a “sugar high” following the tax cuts, and that the high is about to play out.

The crash – a recession, they wrongly claim – is just ahead.

But what some call TrumpOnomics is actually American Economics 101. Prior presidents from each major political party, working with Congress, have enacted similar measures to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. The prior performance was good, just as it is this time too.

In the first 2 graphics below, are the latest numbers from the U.S. Treasury Department. After the tax cuts, there was an initial drop in federal revenues, which are part of the historic norm.

FedsCollectRecordTaxesOct2018CNSManufacturedHOusingIndustryDailyBusinessNEwsMHpronews

Note that now, less than a year after the tax cut went into effect, we already have more federal tax revenue than at any time in the nation’s history.

USDeptTreasuryOct2018TaxRevenues

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, coupled with prudent deregulation, have already produced an economic boom. It is hiking taxes that creates a short term surge in dollars into federal coffers, followed by a dip in government revenues. Why? Because businesses that can, will move to a lower tax state or nation. Capital can be fluid, or to pardon the pun, Capital is Mobile.

The U.S. stock markets have been in flux for reasons that are too detailed for this report, but headlines are among the factors that have always had some measure of influence on investors. False headlines – misleading or ‘fake news’ – can and does move investors and thus the markets.

For example, headlines about Cavco Industries has contributed to a sharp drop in that company’s stock’s value. ICYMI, see that report linked below.

Hedge Fund’s Cavco Move, and More from Inside MHVille

The federal deficit is high, but has been since former President George W. Bush (R) helped create a new entitlement in his so-called “compassionate conservatism. ”  The 43rd president for whatever reasons also plunged the nation into Middle Eastern conflicts which are now the longest U.S, overseas foreign wars. Then President Barack H. Obama (D) kept those costly foreign wars going, and while reducing troop commitments in certain zones, the 44th president actually expanded military action into Libya and other nations too.  Poor strategic policy in the Obama years in Iraq helped spawn the rise of ISIS, and the war over the ‘caliphate’ in Syria was on.

Furthermore, Mr. Obama spilled trillions of dollars in red ink, the most of any U.S. President in American history. ObamaCare, various economic stimulus programs, and tax hikes – all led by Democrats – doubled the national debt in only 8 years. These are nonpartisan facts, and are among the reasons this publication is fundamentally not aligned with either major party.

It is entirely possible that if enough talking heads and negative news are accepted or ‘bought into’ by enough business and investment professionals, that the U.S. economy could slip in 2019. The forecast for the final quarter of 2018 may already reflect that potential. But the simple facts are that the initiatives of President Donald J. Trump, under the able advice or experts like former President Reagan official, Larry Kudlow and others, are working.

As the Daily Business News on MHProNews has noted previously, Democratic President John F. Kennedy and Republican President Ronald Reagan, a Republican who was previously a Democrat, each cut taxes during their administrations. In each case, revenue initially dipped, but then surged in their wake.

TaxReformKennedyJohnsonReagan1Reagan2economistManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

HeritageKennedyReaganTaxCutsWorkedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The reasons are American Economics 101. The best way to grow the economy is demonstrably to allow a maximum level of economic activity in the hands of individuals and business. There are exceptions to the rule, which includes the harmful economic impact of monopolies on business and the nation.

President Donald J. Trump ordered his cabinet to return to him planned cuts in their respective budgets. That is the other side or the ‘tax and spend’ equation. If a divided Congress cooperates enough, the prior harmful policies in the past 16 years can continue to have necessary adjustments that could continue the natural economic boom that the nation is experiencing.

The Takeaways for the U.S. and MHVille

It is absolutely possible that an ongoing flow of negative media, from either or both sides of the left-right media divide, could cause economic confidence among consumers and businesses to fall. That’s not unlike misinformation about manufactured housing being a harmful drag on our industry. In a similar way, repeated misinformation about the federal budget and the economy could in time harm consumer confidence, and thus economic activity.

It is also possible for a Democratic House to throw a monkey-wrench into the gears. Time will tell what happens.

So while there is no knowing with certainty how harm much negative media or politically harmful economic moves in the House may cause the U.S., the normal economic trends would be good from the Trump Administration Tax Cuts and Regulatory Rollbacks. But manipulation in the form of bad news, and bad policies – if widely believed – could spook investors, owners, and consumers.

Finally, the correct moves in local markets by individual manufactured home companies can still produce record growth, given the strong and growing needs for affordable housing. But as UMH President and CEO Sam Landy has said, those marketing efforts going will have to be done by individual businesses. That means, at the local market level(s). Why?

Because the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) and Clayton Homes have both demonstrably failed in their efforts on their respective manufactured home industry image related ‘campaigns.’

Clayton Homes “New” Image Campaign, Surprising Facts Behind Have it Made Stigma Attacking Video

The race for 2020 in the U.S, is already underway. And sadly, the attempts to manipulate facts by various interest groups has been and will continue to be a strategy deployed against everyday Americans. That’s why a questioning mind, one ground in facts and that seeks the truth over emotionally manipulatable habits, are so crucial in the days ahead.

That’s also why our growing audience of pro-growth industry professionals craves news with analysis that helps cuts through the noise of agenda-driven special interests.

Manufactured Housing Institute Insider Insight, Pulling Back the Curtain on How Things Are Done at MHI

November 1st, 2018 Comments off

ManufacturedHousingInstituteLogoPullingBackCurtainInsiderInsightMHIlogoMHProNews

For those of you who have sent news tips that have not yet been addressed, take heart.

Some tips are addressed rapidly, once verified.  Others ae held for an appropriate time to tackle an issue.  This is more of the latter category.

How does the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) create or devise some of its various reports?

In some cases, that work is farmed out to their parties, like Porterfield, Fettig & Sears, LLC.

Here is a specific example.  For simplicity, this will look at only the first two paragraphs of the report as shown.

Memorandum

To: CLIENT DISTRIBUTION
From: Porterfield, Fettig & Sears, LLC
Re: Summary of Election Results and the Financial Services Outlook for the 115th Congress
Date: November 9, 2016

Donald J. Trump (R) shocked the world and defeated Hillary Clinton (D) with an electoral college vote of at least 290-228 to become the 45th President of the U.S.1 Secretary Clinton is likely to win the popular vote. Voters turned out en masse to vote against the establishment in favor of ending the status quo. This “populist right” movement does not subscribe to traditional Republican ideology, but it helped keep Republican majorities in the House (238-193) and Senate (52-47).2 For the first time since 2001, an election provided Republicans with control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.

These election results will slow down, if not stop, a range of regulatory efforts across all sectors. The “populist right” movement believes in free enterprise, but is not blindly pro-business which they believe is rife with crony capitalism. Tax “loopholes” and special interest “benefits” are suspect. While Trump will support a pro-growth agenda of lower taxes, less regulation, energy independence and infrastructure spending, he will also frustrate Republicans with “fair trade” policies, immigration policy, and nationalism.”

That’s who this was addressed to from Porterfield, Fettig & Sears, LLC, so it wasn’t just MHI.

What follows are the first two paragraphs of what MHI published, 5 days later, and distributed to their members.

MHI NEWS & UPDATES
Nov. 14, 2016
The 2016 Election’s Expected Impact on Manufactured Housing

Last Tuesday, voters elected Donald J. Trump (R) as the 45th President of the United States. Voters turned out to vote against the establishment in favor of ending the status quo. This “populist right” movement does not subscribe to traditional Republican ideology, but it helped keep Republican majorities in the House and Senate. It is the first time since 2004 that Republicans will control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

The election results are expected to slow down, if not stop, a range of regulatory efforts across all sectors. The “populist right” movement believes in free enterprise, but is not blindly pro-business, which they believe is rife with crony capitalism. President-Elect Trump is expected to support a progrowth agenda of lower taxes, less regulation, energy independence and infrastructure spending. He will also focus on “fair trade” policies and immigration policy.”

  • Notice that much of what MHI shared is word-for-word, including the grammatical glitches, from Porterfield, Fettig & Sears, LLC (PFS)?
  • Note too that MHI doesn’t cite the source of their quotes and close paraphrases?
  • Let’s be clear. This is not illegal, because they paid for it. But isn’t it misleading, to their own members?  MHI had several highly paid staff members, then and now. In 2016, beyond rephrasing part of what PFS first published, what exactly did MHI staffers – specifically, Lesli Gooch, Ph.D. do? Because an MHI insider called precisely Gooch’s lack of transparency in this matter into question.

Porterfield_FettigSearsManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Was this money well spent? Where is the transparency?  Accountability?

The two different reports are linked on their names, PFS’s at this link here, and MHI’s at this link here.

Keep in mind the principle of transparency that ELS’ late Vice Chairman, Howard Walker said was important.

HowardWalkerPhotoELSViceChairmanManufacturedHomeCOmmunitiesManufacturedHousingInstituteExecCommitteeMemberQuoteTransparencyMHProNews

Thoughtful words, worth pondering. See the story, linked below.

Howard Walker, Mensch – Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS), Manufactured Homes Retrospective

Why do some staffers at MHI, as well as a number of MHI members, complain about a lack of transparency?  There are complaints about the MHI ‘inner circle,’ that is kept in the loop, with the bulk of their own members being kept in the dark, or per sources, are misled by top MHI staff?

This PFS example above isn’t a one-off instance of this, per our sources at MHI.

While this arguably isn’t the biggest issue facing manufactured housing, what this report does is tee up some future facts that point to a pattern identified by reports like those, linked above and further below under the related reports. MHI’s leaders, per sources, are ‘nervous’ about ‘the next shoe to drop,’ as revelations like yesterdays and others linked below pile up.  Note that to date, MHI has not even tried to publicly debunk a single such MHProNews report.  It’s a funny thing about facts, they are not easily changed.

Nathan Smith, SSK Communities, and Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Slam New National Manufactured Home Communities Group in Written Statement

Keep in mind too that MHI leaders and ‘big boys’ are backing anti-Trump candidates in key midterm battleground states. So, while the posture with industry officials at HUD and elsewhere that they embrace the Trump agenda, doesn’t their financial backing of pro-Trump candidates in key states suggest otherwise?

Markets, Money, Medicinal, Madness, and Manufactured Housing

October 30th, 2018 Comments off

MarketsMoneyMedicineMadnessManufacturedHousingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The markets have been sliding in recent days. But why? The fundamentals of the economy and most companies on the exchanges are good.

If you are over 35, and think back, you’ve seen this rodeo market-madness before. A few people already have – or soon will – benefit from this so-called “market correction.”  Those blanks can be filled in later.

A man guns down worshipers in a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. Why? That isn’t relative, it isn’t a matter of opinion. It tragically happened last weekend. One can flashback to a madman walking into a church in South Carolina, or another who did something sadly similar in Texas. The common point for all three is that the shooters justified their own misguided behavior.

A woman, man, or child is diagnosed with an illness. It’s real, that illness isn’t an matter of opinion. Be it temporary or incurable, changes occur in someone’s life, perhaps the lives of several people.

Medicine exists because of science. Medicine and science are predicated on the understanding that reality can be known. Houses stand – or fall – due to science. Manufactured homes are built based upon principles of engineering. One can recognize the behavior of a ‘madman,’ because there is at some level a deeper knowledge of ‘what is right and what is wrong.’

When people lament the lack of civil discourse in politics, part of the challenge is that two world-views are clashing. Are there absolute truths? Or is all truth ‘relative?’

The notion of relativism is a sad fallacy, and the examples above disprove the fundamental underpinnings of relativism. The markets have fallen. People lost money. People died in those places of worship. It would be delusional to think otherwise. Truth is what is real.

The video on relativism below isn’t perfect, but it is useful. It uses stark examples to shake people into realizing that there is a moral right and wrong. That moral truth comes from a Creator of all things. Millions have watched it, and it’s well rated.

The universe exists. Why? What existed before the universe? There is a simple principle found in science, mathematics or philosophy. Here it is. “From nothing, nothing comes.”

There is cause and effect. Nothing comes from nothing. You don’t ask a fireplace for heat, until you first put in wood, kindling, and light the flammable material to start fire. You don’t write a check for more money than is in your bank account, or your overdraft limit. From nothing, nothing comes.

The universe exists because an all-powerful Cause brought it into existence. That First Cause established a moral universe. People are free to choose between right and wrong.  But there are clear consequences to choosing what is wrong. America’s founders weren’t perfect, but they understood this principle very well. They understood too that a just society had to be founded on a lived faith that inspires morality.

Reality is what is. Right and wrong are real. Right and wrong are not ‘relative.’ Personal taste is relative – for example, you like this food but not that one. But there are absolute right and wrong. Ideally, the concepts of right and wrong are what laws are based upon. Then good laws should be justly enforced.

We may learn in time that the so-called market correction we’ve seen in recent days is perhaps an ‘October surprise.’ The strongest argument for the 45th president and his party is a strong economy. Shaking that belief in a sound economy, some voters still on the fence could decide to vote Democratic instead of Republican. Keep in mind that this writer is a political independent, but a pragmatic one.

If it sounds sinister to think that markets can be manipulated, haven’t those over the age of 35 lived through some things that are similar before?  For example, the causes of the crash of 2008 were not mysterious.  They were known to several, but not all, in advance. Those who knew and kept on going weren’t stopped by those who warned against it.  How where the guilty punished?  Yet, trillions in assets were lost by millions, and they were later regained by others. That is a matter of history only a decade ago, and we better learn from it.

The video above was published on Sept 24, 2008.  Note our prior Daily Business News report linked below the timeframe when Warren Buffett sold his interests in the GSEs?

Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Berkshire Hathaway Backstory

You don’t normally blame the victim of a crime. You look for the criminal instead. One doesn’t blame the ill patient. Rather, you look for the cause of the illness, and with the patient’s cooperation, determine the cause and best treatment options. America is infected by several false notions.  Only steady doses of the truth – of reality – will set more people free.

Moral relativism isn’t the only problem that faces America, along with much of the world. But moral relativism is a real problem. The solution?  It is better to light one candle – by sharing an article and video like this he – than it is to curse the darkness.  It is better to enlighten some, than to do nothing.

We’ve reported for some time how manufactured housing is a victim, to a certain degree, of manipulation of people’s perceptions of reality. Realty and truth matter.

Manufactured housing is also a victim of a manipulation of forces beyond the means of most everyone in this industry to impact. That is why ‘causes and effects’ must be understood in the light of fact-checks. Then, based upon reason, prudent planning and action can occur.

ChuckSchumerDNYApril62005GSEsDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

Still from the short but insightful video report, posted above. That video was from Sept of 2008.

About one week from today, the masters of most U.S. media, the major players in tech, the internet, and the richest people in America will find out – along with the rest of us – the result of most races in the House and Senate. Fear is being used to motivate the voters of both major parties. But common sense is being called for consistently by one political leader, and that would be the outsider that successfully challenged the political math of Washington, D.C. in 2016. That same leader has been tirelessly working to reset and improve the economic course of the nation, from years of a ‘rigged system’ madness.

JohnMcCainGSEs2008MeltdownMay252006ManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

Still from the short but insightful video from Fox News, posted above. That Special Report video was from Sept of 2008.

One man is leading the charge to bring back to the USA once lost jobs, lost businesses, and once lost industries.  He’s succeeded at doing what his predecessor said could not be done. Given years of dirt thrown his way, the accomplishments are astonishing.

Millions of ballots have already been cast for the 2018 midterms. In several states, early voting as measured by party registrations has favored the GOP.  That’s a fact that sadly is being under-reported.  But we hunt for facts like that, and share them so that the illusions some paint don’t become reality.

The outcome of the election isn’t certain. Both major parties are giving it their all. For example, Netflix gave former President Barack Obama a huge contract. The former president is now out campaigning for Democrats, including Andrew Gillum, who openly says he is a socialist. Socialism doesn’t work, but one party is asking Americans to believe what is proven not to be true. This too is about absolute truths, and the struggle over relativism.  Note that Netflix, part of FAANG – is one of those monopolistic brands that could be facing antitrust action in 2019.

Is it a coincidence that Netflix hired former President Obama, who is now campaigning against President Donald J. Trump’s agenda?  Follow the agendas, follow the money, follow your common sense.

Because lies told well can cause people to want to believe what isn’t true.  Before ObamaCare ever went into effect, Thomas Sowell used common sense to explain why it wouldn’t work.  Truth is black and white, but when it comes to who speaks the truth or deception– that can come from people of any background.

There is a need for America to return to objective reality. There is a need to reject moral relativism, and to reject the manipulative methods of a few who strain for socialism or crony capitalism over free markets. There is a need to reject the methods of those who dominate tech, and most media. One must reject the manipulations of the uber rich’s power over markets, because logically only a few are capable of manipulating the markets in the ways that are being witnessed in the past week.

That’s the principle of Occam’s Razor.

OccamsRazorDefinedManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

That the clarity of reason. Occam’s Razor explains that the most likely explanation is usually the correct one.

OccamsRazorSimplestExplanationIsTheCorrectOneDailyBusinessNewsMHPronews

But to buy into reason, one must believe in absolute truth. That means one must buy into objective reality, and objective morality – that it is wrong to manipulate markets, money, and minds – and for that, one must believe in our God-given common sense.

With objective reality, the truth of manufactured homes potential to ease the affordable housing crisis may break through. Absent objective reason and morality, that truth can be obscured.

That wasn’t Terry Decio, who is a Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) member. But Terry Decio told MHProNews, “I’m tried of being the best kept secret. I’m ready to help house America.”

What all of the above sources agreed upon is that manufactured housing is misunderstood.

That misunderstanding is demonstrably costing the industry billions a year in additional sales.

That misunderstanding is an information or educational issue. James McGee at Deer Valley Homes, with Chet Murphree stating his agreement, said that the core issue facing manufactured housing could be boiled down to education.

Hold those thoughts.

The statistics have shifted slightly upward since this infographic was produced, but the principles remain the same. There’s billions annually in additional opportunities available for manufactured housing, but it will clearly require new methods.

Why is education, communication, ad information so important? Because how does one break through to others on issues that may be strongly believed, but that millions are nevertheless wrong about?

God doesn’t make mistakes, but people do. Everyone makes mistakes, so there is a level of mercy and openness to forgive errors that is useful, necessary, and wise.

But there is also a need to discern the truth, be that truth about manufactured housing, or a topic that impacts manufactured homes, or anything else.

God gives humans emotion and reason to complement each other. Reason helps guide the will, but emotion and reason combined creates energy behind what reason discovers.

Whenever information is in opposition, use logic.”

  • It is possible that competing claims can both be false,
  • but it is not possible for competing claims to both be true.

In medical school, one is taught to search for the truth, using the methods of reason and science.

In law school, people are taught to test the truth with logic. That said, an attorney represents clients that may or may not be acting in accordance with what is true, right, or just.

For the purposes of this column, only one point need be made that virtually everyone in manufactured housing agrees upon. That manufactured homes are widely misunderstood.

So discovering the methods of discerning the truth are what several of the charts, graphs, quotes, and videos on this post focus upon.

Ideally, journalism is also about a search for truth. Regrettably, we know from experience today that there are broad camps in journalism. News is a business. The product is information. Is that information trustworthy?

Warren Buffett is largely right about this next statement. “Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken,” cited by BrainyQuote. Rephrased, people can be enslaved by habits and thinking. Sad, but largely true.

One can’t, nor should, deny the success of Mr. Buffett. But one can and should ask, question, and probe his impact on manufactured housing, and our nation.

Mr. Buffett has been cited as one of the 100 most influential people in America in 2012 by Time Magazine. The vast majority of manufactured housing bloggers, writers, and publications will not question Mr. Buffett in public. Why not? Is he the creator? Hardly. He was born, lives, and will die someday. He’s successful, but himself admits he’s made mistakes.

Mr. Buffett is highly intelligent. Shrewd might be a good word to describe him.

So why has Buffett:

  • a man with so much money,
  • influence,
  • and power
  • not use that influence or resources to advance the manufactured housing industry?
  • Why has he failed to routinely use his numerous Berkshire Hathaway owned media outlets to set the record straight on manufactured homes?

BerkshireHathawayOwnedNewsmpapersWarrenBuffettsMediaEmpireInvestopediaGoogleDailyBusinessNewsMHProNEws

Why did Kevin Clayton say 7 years ago that they were ready then to do an image and education campaign? Why didn’t he and Warren Buffett do it back then?  Why did Kevin Clayton say that Warren Buffett told him that Berkshire Hathaway would be okay if Clayton Homes lost money for years?  You can see the video, documentary evidence, and several details, later in the link below.

Warren Buffett Would be Okay With Clayton Homes Losing Money, Says Kevin Clayton – But Why?

We’ll let the reader search for the truth of those questions. But make no mistake, they are among the most important questions our industry faces. See the related reports, further below.

Finally, let’s turn to one of the most vilified men in America today, President Donald J. Trump. Thomas Friedman in the New York Times said the stock market would crash if Mr. Trump became president. Numerous voices on the left, including Secretary Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Hussein Obama, also predicted doom and gloom for America if Mr. Trump became president.  Mr. Buffett took numerous public shots aimed at Donald J. Trump over the years.

But would the economic and regulatory improvements that occurred for manufactured housing in the last 20 months have taken place under Secretary Clinton?  After all, Ms. Clinton pledged more of the same policies as former President Barack Obama – so logically – wouldn’t her results be like his? Why did Warren Buffett support heavy regulations? Who benefited from those high tax and high regulation policies?

Millions love him, and believe President Trump is making the lives of tens of millions in America better.  The economy has advanced more in 20 months since Mr. Trump became president than it did under 8 years of former Presidents George W. Bush or 8 years of Barack Obama.

See the related reports, which can be read later, at the link below.

Mind opening is a necessary skill for our industry, especially in marketing, sales, investing, and management.  Conditioning – habits – can cause someone to see the same things differently.  Habits can cause people to miss obvious, beneficial truths.

Manufactured housing will only advance to its potential when the “infowars” – the battle for the truth about our industry, and what’s kept it from achieving its potential – are understood, and then acted upon.  Those infowars are arguably taking place within manufactured housing, as well as outside of the industry.

There are millions who find the truth to be uncomfortable.

Millions are misinformed about manufactured housing. The obvious answer is education.

Millions don’t know, so they don’t understand just how failed many public policies have been. Millions don’t understand how public policy impacts business and jobs, including those in our industry.

The obvious answer is education.

Hundreds of billions of dollars are pouring back into America.  It is the result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, combined with regulatory rollbacks.

Those business thwarting, job killing forces of higher taxes and regulations have been tolerated for decades. Presidents John F. “Jack” Kennedy (D) and Ronald Reagan (R) demonstrated the principle that taxes could be dramatically lowered, and business and jobs would be spurred.

That isn’t partisan. Rather, it’s a law, like gravity.

Or as industry success story Marty Lavin succinctly put it in his article on trade, “You get more of what you encourage, and less of what you discourage.”

Factory-built housing industry veterans Tim Connor, and our publisher L. A. “Tony” Kovach have both said similar points to Lavin’s insight.

The point? Once more, education is the key.  A new generation of manufactured housing industry professionals and Americans must be taught what works, and why.

Lessons from Seattle’s Head Tax

Higher taxes or higher regulations are business and job killers. These are truths that the Daily Business News has promoted for years, and are being proven – right before the nation’s and our industry’s eyes.

Recently, giant Amazon pushed back hard on Seattle’s head tax, which was passed to pay for homeless programs. Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man and founder of Seattle based Amazon, did not want to pay that tax, even though he can clearly afford it.  Yet, Bezos favors progressive policies? How does contradiction work in practice?

Warren Buffett and Chase’s Jaime Dimon recently praised on  CNBC the U.S. economic boom as strong. But both are Democratic supporters. Buffett has pointedly put down President Trump for years before he ran for the White House.  Buffett strongly supported Mr. Trump’s opponent, Secretary Hillary Clinton. How does that contradiction work?

Make no mistake.  The evidence is there that billionaires like Buffet, Bezos, Dimon, Soros or others who support so-called progressive or leftist causes know the truth about high taxes and heavy regulations.  It isn’t that Marty Lavin, Tim Connor, or Tony Kovach are smarter or richer than they are.

Some modest level of taxes and regulations are arguably necessary in society.  But excessive taxes and regulations are proven by experience to be destructive. That’s been known for centuries.  So, why do some favor high taxes and high regulations? In a phrase, it’s “political and economic power over their competition.”  Big business can better sustain high taxes and high regulations.

NAMCostForComplianceDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The Approaching Midterms

Democratic strategists like long-time Clinton adviser Doug Schoen have said that opposition to President Trump can’t be a winning strategy for them.  The evidence of the success of the president’s policies are increasingly strong.

Doug Schoen, Clinton Adviser, warns – “Democrats must advance an agenda…to create a society of opportunity for all – not guaranteed outcomes achieved through wealth redistribution.”

Keep in mind the lessons of the facts above.  This isn’t about a cult of personality, or party, as some narratives would have you believe.

Rather, it’s about policy principles that are as proven as gravity.  Rephrased, its about education about reality vs. flawed opinions.

Presidents Then…

Yesterday, the Daily Business News spotlighted then President Gerald Ford’s speech praising what was then the mobile home industry.  The mobile home industry has evolved into the modern manufactured home (MH) industry. There were some principles that were practiced during the Nixon-Ford era, such as wage price controls, that were proven to be public policy failures. The point isn’t that President Ford was great because he was Republican (note: as pro-industry trade publishers, we are political independents).  It isn’t that President Ford was just being nice to our industry.

Rather, it is that President Ford was correct then on some specifically focused items that apply today to manufactured homes.  Those specific principles are as true today as they were back then.  If you missed it, please circle back to the article linked below once you finish this column.  Because the lessons are true, then and now.

U.S. President Praised “The Mobile Home Industry,” Manufactured Homes are “Here to Stay”

Some Key Themes, Quotes from POTUS Trump’s Duluth Rally

We will never give in.  We will never give up. And we will never, ever stop fighting for our country,” said President Donald J. Trump near the end of his rally last night. “Or for our flag. Or for our freedom,” he said to cheers and applause. Like President Reagan, our 45th president holds different views than he once did on some issues. He evolved over time from some beliefs into America First economic nationalism.

It should be noted that President Trump’s call for “a space force” is in some ways an echo of Reagan’s call for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), which was mocked then.  SDI was part of what brought the old Soviet Union to the table, and what ended up bringing the Berlin Wall, and the Communist Iron Curtain to a close.

President of the United States (POTUS) Trump seems to have a knack for getting at the heart of an issue. Freedom and peace through strength. He believes that his ‘tariff’ skirmish will result in better trade deals for America. Several of his economic principles are already proving themselves.

As long as we are proud of who we are and what we are fighting for, we will never, ever fail. There is no place like our place,” he said of the U.S.A. With your help, and with your voice, and with your vote,” the 45th president said his reform version of the GOP party “can keep on winning. We will keep on winning.”

We are Americans.  And our hearts bleed red, white, and blue,” said the “America First” president.

We are one people. One family, and one glorious nation under God. And together, we will make America wealthy again. We will make America strong again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again. Thank you, thank you Minnesota.”   The president is hoping some of his political supporters will win congressional races in the state, and perhaps flip a U.S. Senate seat or two.

The president narrowly lost Minnesota in 2016, which is a state that has been deep blue for decades.

Proven, Pragmatic, Pro-Business and Individual Prosperity Principles

MHProNews has and will continue to stand for proven principles, not spin, hype or political posturing.

This writer editorially supported President Trump, and the presidential campaign site carried my full column for months. Those who came late to the dance are welcome, but the point is that we discerned who the best candidate was for our industry and for our nation – Donald J. Trump – and we backed him during the primaries, after the convention, and have supported his policies since.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, while MHProNews and the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

Our support for President Trump was and is based upon those principles and sound policies.  Those principles work in spite of how someone may feel about this or that presidential tweet, or this or that hyperbolic expression. Proven principles are paying off.

We at MHProNews are pragmatic and practical.  We strive to get facts and principles correct, so that professional readers and investors can have a reliable source of independent information.

This is demonstrably the most pro-industry, pro-sustainable growth publication in manufactured housing history. We are also the runaway #1 publications in our niche.  Those are bold claims.  But third-party data helps proves it. Beyond reader feedback, which of course crosses the spectrum of pro-and-con, traffic or email data tell us that most of our audience respects what we provide. By the way, it was a competitor who asked us to do the report, linked below.

What are the FACTS about Manufactured Housing Industry Traffic vs. Real Estate? MHVillage, MHProNews, Manufactured Housing Institute Data

We at MHProNews are pro-business, and we celebrate success.

That said, there are monopolies that harm our industry.  We believe in principle that those monopolies need to be legally challenged and broken up.  That includes the alleged Berkshire Hathaway monopoly over manufactured housing; but it isn’t limited to them.  Our position is based upon principles.  Other monopolies that need to be addressed are found in the article, linked below.  Each one poses a risk to our industry and the nation.

Facebook, Marketing & News – Manufactured Housing Pros, Sarah Miller, ‘Citizens Against Monopoly’ Sound the Alarm

NY Stern professor Scott Galloway is arguably correct when he says that breaking up the monopolies would create more millionaires.  A few billionaires may lose some of their vast wealth in the process. But if they are proven guilty of violating antitrust or other laws – as even non-industry sources and MHProNews has alleged – then don’t they deserve what they get?

If you are a first time reader, please see Smoking Gun 3 once you’ve finished this article for documents and videos that demonstrate just how manufactured housing has been arguably derailed.  See how choking off capital debatably harmed thousands of industry businesses, and potentially millions of more manufactured home owners.  That in turn costs taxpayers billions.

Smoking Gun 3 – Warren Buffett, Kevin Clayton, Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corp Tim Williams – Manufactured Home Lending, Sales Grab?

As we’ve ratcheted up that theme of breaking up the monopolies, the Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) ‘big boy’ backers have demonstrably provided more ads and financial support to the other MH industry trade sources. We’ve had sponsors tell us that they’ve been pressured to back off supporting us.

Thanks to the support of a few, we are still standing. We stand for principles, vs. those who are apparently short-term sellouts.  The industry can only achieve its potential by breaking free of the factors that have artificially suppressed our MH Industry’s growth.

What was accomplished previously in sustainable shipment levels, can clearly be done again.

Our publisher personally knows each other ‘serious’ non-association trade publisher or blogger active in manufactured housing today. He respects some-to-many of their qualities.  We advocate a separating the “wheat from the chaff” approach. But the sad reality is that each of those other MH bloggers and writers has to various degrees debatably ‘sold out’ to the big money interests. Their articles and writing are often – not always – that of a sycophant.

It is President Donald J. Trump and his supporters that made S 2155 possible.

White House Signing Ceremony on Historic Pro-Growth Financial Regulatory Reform

The National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) are among those trade groups which have consistently supported tax cutting and/or regulatory reform polices that are good for America, and are good for independent manufactured housing industry businesses.

The president’s rally in Duluth, Minnesota last night hit all of the themes and topics that are hot in the news recently.  Several of the major cable networks did not carry the full address.  The CBS video above covers the President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump’s talk.

For those who are:

  • realists, open minded, and sustainable growth oriented,
  • for those that don’t already support the president’s plans,
  • those owe it to themselves to take another look.

The truth and applying the truth will alone set people free.

For those who already agree with the above, you get it.  For those who don’t, the growth after just 500 days of Mr. Trump in Oval Office should be evidence.

The opposition uses slanders and slurs, because that’s all that they have.

It should be noted that competitors in publishing in MHVille may or may not agree with the president’s policies.  But in practice, if other writers support what MHI’s ‘big boy backers’ want – admit it or not – then they are routinely on the wrong side of the MH Industry’s issues.

While Frank Rolfe has gone silent – allegedly due to a discussion between Berkshire Hathaway company members, ads, and certain benefits – several of the points he made prior to going silent about MHI were spot on.  Will Rolfe risk losing his support in favor of speaking out again?  Time will tell.

Frank Rolfe: Pressured into Silence? Manufactured Housing Industry, and Journalism

But neither Rolfe nor MHI can erase what that widely known MHI member’s already said on numerous occasions.  We keep track of the evidence and the facts, so that industry professional readers or investors can decide, and act accordingly.

Neither can MHI ignore the new national association that is forming.  They quit MHI because of the recognition that MHI has failed the industry.

‘Tip of Iceberg’ – Rick Rand; Marty Lavin, Communities have ‘No Confidence’ in Manufactured Housing Institute, New National Trade Group Announced

The evidence is clear for those willing to look at it with an open mind.

MHI has de facto been working for consolidation.  The case for that allegation is laid out in linked articles and reports. You can see a summary in the first Related Report, linked below.

Note that we’ve repeatedly given MHI and Berkshire brands in MHVille an opportunity to refute any of the facts we’ve presented.  For about 15 months now, they no longer even try to respond. Isn’t that a de facto admission that what we’ve been publishing is correct?

That may be a difficult pill for long-time MHI members or Berkshire believers to swallow, but it is what it is.

Please note, we’ve often made the distinction that just because someone is in MHI, or works for an operation associated with them, that doesn’t make them a bad person. Some state associations and businesses tell us that they have ‘no choice,’ but some of those in MHI are among our sources of information.  They support us as they can.

Life Hack Success Tip-Any Pro Can Do This-Monday Morning Manufactured Housing Sales, Marketing Meeting

May 21st, 2018 Comments off

CharlieMungerWarrenBuffettDonaldTrumpLifeHackSuccessTipManufacturedHousingINdustryMondayMorningsalesMeetingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews520x310

Today is going to be DIFFERENT.

Open your minds for something simple, yet profoundly effective for those who dare embrace it.

It’s a Success Tip that Warren Buffett’s over half-a-century partner Charlie Munger believes in and practices.

It’s this.

Reading for understanding.

Reading, and being able to admit that you were mistaken about something.

Reading with an open mind, looking for the opportunity, the gem that the reading is bringing to you.

When MHProNews first launched, our URL – the base web address – was and remains MHMarketingSalesManagement.com. Marketing, Selling, and Management are at the core elements of any successful enterprise.

We encouraged readers almost a decade ago to devote 15 minutes a day to reading. That was back before we introduced the industry’s first and still only Daily Business News, which is this module or blog within our broader trade media website.

Today, the goal should not be for 15 minutes a day. That isn’t nearly enough to keep up with your industry and the world that impacts your industry. An hour a day is the minimum.

You can split that hour-a-day of reading and viewing into 10-to-15 minute segments. You can do it all at once. How, where and when you invest that hourly daily has a lot of flexibility.

Watch the video, and see what Munger does.

Charlie Munger is a billionaire. He is the vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate that dominates much of manufactured housing. Munger takes reading with him, everywhere he goes. For example, he shows up early for meetings, and is reading before and after the meeting.

So Munger is wasting no time! He is reading during what for others might be down-time!

If you are reading and viewing at least an hour a day on MHProNews and MHLivingNews.com – and you do so for a deep understanding – that habit will transform your career, and your professional life.

That hour-daily habit would likely lead to improvements in every other area of you life too.

Foundational For Success

We don’t hide the fact that we believe in faith, flag, family, fellowship, and free enterprise. We celebrate what each of those words represent, because each are and should be cherished ideals.

DonGlissonJrCEOTriadFinancialServicesDailyBusinessNewsManufacturedHousingIndsutryMHProNewsDon Glisson, Jr. – the president of Triad Financial Group – told me a few years after we launched that he thought we were crazy to start MHProNews when we did. It was late 2009. The industry had just neared the finish of its worst year in over 50 years.  He said that as he publicly congratulated for our success in becoming the most popular trade publication in the industry’s history.

Third-party statistics prove that we are still the industry’s leader in trade media, by a country mile. MH “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use” © is more than a tag line.

That’s a mission we are committed to, in order to help industry pros and investors like you become all that you can be.

We practice what we preach.

We read and read, then we write what the evidence tells us we should know, which then suggests which way to go.

In our consulting, professional business development services, marketing and sales coaching, it is all based upon observations, evidence, feedback, real world experiences, and ongoing refinement.

For a time, we trusted the ‘industry leaders’ to a certain degree. But we admit that on some things, the industry’s leaders were mistaken in what they said and did. To the degree we listened, we were off.

The evidence of why the industry’s so-called ‘leaders’ have been wrong is in the chart below.

MobileHomeShipmentsManufacturedHomeShipmentChartMHIAShipmentsMHIndustryChampionSkylineHUDCodeDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

There are reasons why manufactured housing slid from 372,000 plus shipments in 1998, to under 50,000 shipments in 2009. Understanding what caused that, and navigating the realities of what the MH slide while America’s affordable housing crisis grew are fundamental.  Understanding the opportunities and the obstacles can make anyone with the time, talent and treasure commitments a success in this amazing industry.

If what those leaders wanted us all to do was so dang smart, why did the manufactured housing rumble and tumble as fat as it did?

When the nation has an affordable housing crisis, why will there only be about 100,000 new manufactured homes built this year?

The answers for that and more are found in reading for understanding.

The Trumpian View

Donald J. Trump has a similar belief to Munger’s and Buffett’s in this respect. The billionaire builder and businessman turned populist President of the United States (POTUS) believes this.  It pays to know all that you can about something that impacts your profession.

That Trumpian view is more than reading.  But it includes reading, plus viewing, asking questions, and listening to the answers. It requires the search for understanding.

Reading and viewing here and on MHLivingNews.com an hour a day. Every day. Do that for a year. Then, a year from now, tell me in an email, call, or other message what that practice did to make your professional life more profitable and effective.

Take that challenge.

Superficiality-is-the-curse-of-the-modernWorldMatthewKellyQuoteFancyInspirationBlogMHProNews720

Donald Trump, Warren Buffett, and Charlie Munger didn’t say it. But another successful business guru did. Want to understand something enough to benefit from it? There is no substitute to investing the time needed. Buffett says he reads 5 to 6 hours daily. Wow…but look were that got him.

Read for understanding, no less than one hour a day. Enough said for today. ## (Manufactured housing related marketing & sales news, analysis, and commentary.)
