Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report – T

Tax Reform, The “Witch Hunt” for a Trump Tie-In, and more…

Spoiler alert.  Democratic legal expert Alan Dershowitz said today that if the worst thing alleged about the Trump campaign where true, its not illegal.  Did you catch that?  Not illegal.

Which begs the question ‘why’ the federal government is spending millions of taxpayer dollars on what the Daily Business News reported weeks ago was a “big nothing burger,” per a source at CNN.

In the first video, House Ways and Means Committee member Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) discusses what will be included in the GOP tax reform bill and whether it will be passed.

There’s talk that a former Trump advisor who plead guilty today may have worn a wire.  But the president and his team seem unphased by today’s developments, because most of it took place before his campaign existed, and what’s alleged has no ties to the president.

The latest just minutes ago, is in the Fox Business video, below.

The still below is from the first video.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

What was heard a lot in the past decade by business leaders, investors, and economic experts was the phrase, ‘uncertainty.’

If the first video’s experts are any indicator, with the pro-business, pro-growth Trump Effect, those days of uncertainty are yielding to increased business confidence, which is another word for certainty.

The second video with the president of the NYSE is another example of how certainty is blooming all over.  If it is good for the economy, it can be good for manufactured housing.

The White House Press Room’s West Wing Reads Today…

————

In economic news, the Washington Examiner reports that data from the Labor Department on Thursday showed that “the total number of workers receiving unemployment benefits again fell to the lowest level in nearly 44 years in mid-October,” a sign that “job creation is strong.”

————

Regarding the phony Trump dossier, the Wall Street Journal editorial board writes on the hidden joint financial actions of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign that make it appear “Democrats paid for Russians to compile wild allegations,” about President Trump, as well as the credibility of the investigation as a whole.

————

The Christian Post’s Samuel Smith writes on Vice President Pence’s promise to Middle Eastern Christian leaders that the United States will begin providing help to “rebuild their ancient communities” following the order President Trump gave to the U.S. State Department to enable U.S. aid funding to go “directly to faith-based organizations actively supporting Christians and other religious minorities displaced by the Islamic state.”

————

At the Associated Press, Erica Werner and Alan Fram write on the unity within the Republican Party after a pair of prominent senators denounced President Trump and invited their colleagues to join them. Instead, “most GOP lawmakers rallied around Trump and his agenda,” and voiced unqualified support,” for the President, Werner and Fram report.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

There’s a lot of good economic news, as the Daily Business News has reported for months.

But there are also storm clouds on the horizon.  They have and will impact the industry. To learn more, see our spotlight report, further below.

CNNMoneyRecordRetailStoreClosingsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Hundreds of thousands of manufactured home industry customers work at stores like those that are closing. As the economy is in flux, it will create wrinkles for lenders, communities, retailers. Both problems and opportunities

Just as the hurricanes have impacted manufactured home residents who were working at places harmed by the storms, there is also an impact on the industry’s sellers, communities, lenders and others who serve the public working in retail stores that are suffering through record closures.

Per CNN Money,Since January 1, retailers have announced plans to shutter more than 6,700 stores in the U.S., according to Fung Global Retail & Technology, a retail think tank.”

That beats the previous all-time high of 6,163 store closings, which hit in 2008 amid the financial meltdown, according to Credit Suisse.”

Many are pointing their finger directly at Amazon, and other online retailers.

And this news comes on the week that MHProNews broke the story that Amazon is now selling factory made housing directly to consumers.

More_than_6300_storeClosingBusinessInsider2017DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The economy is going through a sea change.

Those tidal shifts could be successfully addressed by the Trump Administration, which is working to get tax reform passed that should spur more growth that will counteract the loss of other job.

The need to continue regulatory, tax, health care and other “drain the swamp” reforms in Washington is pressing. The Daily Business News will continue to track, summarize and inform the industry and its investors as these stories develop.

These changes could be positive for the industry in the medium to long run, given the right policies and implementation.  But the reality is that failure to enact parts of the Trump “America First” agenda could deal a series of blows to the industry.

The local news video below paints a quick picture of the pattern which is impacting communities, some likely in or near a market your company serves.

The Growing Harvey Weinstein Scandal, Why It Will Impact Business, Politics.

Deep blue New York is now doing criminal investigations into the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, per the video report on left-of-center Bloomberg.

TimeMagazineProducerPredatorPariahHarveyWeinsteinTimeMagazineMashableDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Because of his connections with Democratic politics, it will not be a surprise if this upends some political careers as the scandal progresses. The fact that left of center CNN Money and right-of-center Fox Business are both spotlighting this still emerging story are reasons why investors and professionals know this will impact your world in a variety of ways.

Given the scandals at Fox News last year and this, it will also likely highlight sexual harassment in the workplace.  Watch for more on this, as the circumstances warrant.

The entertainment-political-business hypocrisy and double standards may be coming home to roost, at least for a time.

How long will this shakeup last?

How much will it impact politics, and business?

These are questions the videos shown explore.

The Bloomberg, RNC Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel video also covers developments in the tax, Steve Bannon, Eminem, fund raising, 2018, and other political issues. But that too touches on the widespread allegations in the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

What we learn from history is that people don’t learn from history.”

Warren Buffett,
Chairman, Berkshire Hathaway. Parent to Clayton Homes, industry lenders, retailers, and suppliers.

It’s been 30 years today since one of the biggest market crashes, ever.

 CanWeAvoidNextBigMarketCrashDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Let’s begin with an extended quote, from Newsmax today.

NewsMaxLogoDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsThirty years ago, before heading to work at the New York Stock Exchange, Peter Kenny left his home in lower Manhattan and made a detour to the nearby Our Lady of Victory church to pray to St. Jude, the Roman Catholic patron saint of desperate and lost causes.

The reason was the stock market crash known as “Black Monday” on October 19, 1987.

“Blessed mother get me through this,” he prayed.

Kenny, now senior market strategist at Global Markets Advisory Group in New York, was a newly minted member of the New York Stock Exchange, having joined the exchange in February that year. He was stunned by the events that unfolded the previous day, the worst trading day in U.S. history.

“I don’t think anyone was prepared for what actually transpired in the overseas markets, which led to the bloodbath on Monday,” said Kenny.

When it was over, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had lost 22.6 percent in one day, equivalent to a drop of about 5,200 points in the index today. The benchmark U.S. S&P 500 index plunged 20.5 percent on Black Monday, equal to a drop of over 520 points today, and the Nasdaq dropped 11.4 percent, comparable to a drop of about 750 points.

In 1987 U.S. stock prices had climbed steadily all year, as they have in 2017, with each of the three major U.S. indexes hitting record highs in late August. But September turned into a difficult month, with each index falling more than 2.0 percent, though not by enough to raise alarm bells among investors.

But as the calendar flipped to October, the selling in U.S. equity markets intensified. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 fell more than 9.0 percent in the week before Black Monday.

On the morning of Monday, October 19, 1987, Art Hogan, then a floor broker at the Boston Stock Exchange, expected a possible rebound for stock prices. Nothing had prepared him for what was to unfold.

“It was clear in that first hour… this was going to be as bad as we’ve seen in our lifetimes,” said Hogan, now chief market strategist at Wunderlich Securities in New York.

Hillary Clinton, left, Warren Buffett, right. Credit – Boston Globe.  But Buffett’s stock has soared since the Trump victory.

Now, the shocking truth is that several times in the life time of every 40+ American, we’ve seen the markets and economy upended.

What we will posit today, that will tee up that upcoming report is that history could be repeating, if policy makers fail to do what’s necessary.

Watch for that upcoming, MHProNews Special Report, because it’s our country, and our money.

I will tell you how to become rich. Close the doors. Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful.” – Warren Buffett.

What we learn from history is that people don’t learn from history.” – Warren Buffett, Chairman, Berkshire Hathaway. Parent to Clayton Homes, industry lenders, retailers, and suppliers.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

Hans Olsen, Stifel on Economy, Markets. 18 to 24 months, POTUS’ Heritage Remarks, Videos 10YearTNoteReducingBalanceSheetofFedCNBCDailyBUsinessNewsMHProNews

The never Trump voices in the media, and those who are afraid to give the president and his policies credit for the record growth, business and consumer confidence, have a problem.

It’s the numbers.

The economy is moving in a healthy direction.  So says Stifel’s Hans Olsen, who gives his 18 to 24 month market projections and insights.

Here on the Daily Business News market report our take is nuanced.  Growth is a natural result of the right policies, and other conditions. If meaningful tax reform gets passed, the market recovery can be sustained, or may accelerate.  Without that, even voices in the Trump Administration admit the markets could turn if the anti-tax reform segments win the battle now underway.

The following from CNBC.

CNBCLogoDailyBusinessNewsMHproNewsPeople make bad decisions when they go to cash,” said Scott Bishop, head of financial planning at Houston-based STA Wealth Management. “Their guts are usually wrong.”

Investment flows show that investors typically get it wrong when they try to predict which direction the market will head, said Cory Clark, director at Dalbar, a Boston-based market research firm.

In 2016, investors guessed wrong about the market’s direction — such as by selling shares, in aggregate, right before a winning month — in seven months out of the year, according to Dalbar. Over the past 20 years through 2016, after accounting for poor timing of fund flows, the average equity investor has earned 4.79 percent annualized, or almost 3 percentage points fewer than the Standard & Poor’s 500 index each year, on average, according to Dalbar.

“A year ago there was a lot of uncertainty and fear, and concerns over a potential market top,” Clark said. “And we just saw the markets keep on keeping on.”

Investors who sell now risk missing a “melt-up,” such as if stocks quickly notch additional double-digit gains, said Thomas Yorke, managing director of Oceanic Capital Management in Red Bank, New Jersey.

If the market does top out soon, investors who sell run the risk of not getting back into stocks at the right time.

“Most investors do very poorly when selling in anticipation of a correction,” said Bishop. “It never feels ‘right’ to buy back in.”

One of Bishop’s clients went to cash in the summer of 2008 — successfully dodging the market collapse that followed Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy — but still hasn’t gotten back into the market, he said.

Investors generally experience their worst underperformance, compared with the market, during times of market turmoil for just that reason, Clark said. They pull their money out of stocks and fail to get back in as the market recovers.
