Fifty-six Room Modular Apartment Rises in Six Months

The Morris Plains Housing Authority in Morris Plains, NJ chose Simplex to build the 87 modules



New_Jersey_morris_palans_modular_apart_bldg__56_unitfor the 56-room apartment complex with Del-Santo Contracting Corp.

Simplex was first contacted in Sept. 2015, and production began in Nov. on this 58,259 square foot complex, with the first modules delivered in Dec. The last module was set March 30, as MHProNews was told. During the construction, as the floors were completed, the developer had the trusses installed, which saved a lot of time.

The blogger writes that the savings in money and time “would have on-site developers salivating.” ##

Modular Alabama Homebuilder Sold to C3 Design

C3_Design_modular_home_builder__Mississippi__their_creditLuxury modular homebuilder C3 Design, Inc. in Greenwood, Mississippi has purchased Franklin Homes of Russellville, Alabama which has produced modular residential and commercial buildings for 46 years.

C3 Designs owner Fred Carl, Jr. tells MHProNews he will invest in infrastructure and expansion of the Franklin line, but it will continue to manufacture its own product line as a wholly-owned subsidiary of C3 Design under the name Franklin Structures LLC.

Founded in 2013 by Carl, C3 Design intends to produce and market high-end modular homes and specialty buildings through a network of builders, dealers and developers, according to sanluisobispo. Terms of the acquisition were not revealed. ##

Keith Anderson Appointed New CEO at Champion

champion_homebuilders_inc_creditChampion Home Builders, Inc. of Troy, Michigan announced today that Keith Anderson, interim CEO since Jan. 2015, has been named President and CEO of the producer of manufactured and modular homes and commercial buildings. Having joined the company’s Board of Managers in 2013, he served as president and CEO of Green Tree Servicing (formerly Conseco Finance) from 1995 through 2012.

After Walter Investment Management acquired Green Tree in 2013, Anderson continued to lead Green Tree as Walter’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and also was responsible for Ditech Mortgage and Green Tree Insurance, according to PRWeb.

Timothy Bernlohr, Chairman of the Board, said, “We are very pleased to have Keith assume the leadership role at Champion. With the key role that financing plays in today’s manufactured housing market, Keith’s extensive experience in commercial finance and residential mortgage makes him uniquely qualified to lead Champion’s continued growth and expansion.

Champion to Partner with Winnebago for RV Park Models

park_model_rv_by_champion_home_buildersManufactured and modular home (MH) and Park Model recreational vehicle (RV) producer Champion Home Builders, Inc. has entered into a licensing agreement with RV maker Winnebago Industries, Inc. (NYSE:WGO) to manufacture a line of Park Model RVs.

Champion will introduce the first Park Model RV at Winnebago’s Dealer Days in Las Vegas this April, as cnnmoney informs MHProNews. The models will be sold at Winnebago dealers and at Park Model RV dealerships in the U. S. and Canada.

Oak Creek Opens New Home Center

PRWeb reports Oak Creek Homes announces the opening of its new home center, its 17th in Texas, in Midland, TX to sell manufactured and modular homes and commercial buildings. General Manager Craig Johnston says the shortage of affordable housing and the rise in apartment rentals spurred the company to open in Midland. The company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ronnie Richards, says, “Oak Creek has built over 50,000 homes and has continuously provided homes in the Midland – Odessa market since 1983.” Midland is close to the oilfield development in west Texas that has workforce housing needs. MHProNews posted a story March 28 about Oak Creek’s development of a mobile app that allows a shopper to search homes while driving around. Oak Creek is a subsidiary of American Homestar Corp., a vertically integrated factory-built housing company, primarily employee-owned, with operations in construction, financing, insurance, and retailing. The company is in its 42nd year.

Measure would Punish those Dastardly Few

In the 77th Oregon Legislative Assembly, the Senate is considering a measure that would punish unscrupulous “manufactured structure” dealers by revoking their license for up to five years, which includes all factory-built residential and commercial buildings. It would put the industry on the same legal footing as building contractors. Modular Manufacturer Sold to Investment Firm

PRNewsWire reports CoveView Capital Partners, LLC has acquired all the assets of modular builder HandCrafted Homes, LLC of Henderson, NC. Paul Jarvis, the new President of HandCrafted Homes, says, “The infusion of new capital will allow us to fund growth initiatives as the housing markets begin to recover, and is well timed for the upcoming spring selling season. We are excited to partner with an experienced investor such as CoveView to create a great organization around an already strong brand.” HandCrafted builds modular homes, apartments and commercial buildings. As MHProNews has learned separately, CoveView is a private investment firm based in Stamford, Conn., formed in 2009 by three former J.P. Morgan bankers. The selling price was not immediately available.

Cavco’s Earnings Skyrocket

AZCentral tells that Phoenix-based Cavco Industries, Inc. reported at its earnings webcast Feb. 2 its profits mushroomed compared to last year. Net income for the third quarter 2012 which ended Dec. 31 was $1.68 million, or .24 cents a share, as opposed to $24,000 for the same period a year ago, or one-half a cent a share. Cavco attributes the increase to its purchase of Palm Harbor in 2011 by Fleetwood Homes, Inc. Fleetwod is owned half and half by Cavco and Third Avenue Value Fund. Cavco is the second largest producer of manufactured homes in the U.S., marketing park models, modular homes, vacation cabins and commercial buildings. Cavco President and CEO Joe Stegmayer is also Chairman of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).
