Three Major Indexes Barely Move; Most Tracked Housing Stocks Fall

Investors continue to cautiously wait for the Federal Reserve’s report tomorrow (July 31) following their two-day policy meeting. Even though housing prices continue to rise, the three major indexes moved little. CNNMoney reports the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down -1.38 points, -0.01 percent, to close at 15,520.59. The Nasdaq nudged up +0.48 percent, +17.33 points, to end the day at 3,616.47, while the S&P moved up +0.04 percent, +0.63 points, to close at 1,685.96. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite rose 1.87 percent to close at 1014.5. Most housing stocks we follow closed down, or even, although Affiliated Managers Group posted the biggest gain of tracked stocks, +3.17 percent, +5.43 points, to end the day at 178.00. CNNMoney reports the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up +3.22 points, +0.02 percent, to close at 15,558.83. The Nasdaq nudged up +0.22 percent, +7.98 points, to end the day at 3,613.17, while the S&P moved up +0.08 percent, +1.40 points, to close at 1,691.65. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite fell -2.54 percent to end at 995.9. Most housing stocks we follow closed down, or even, with Nobility Homes posting the biggest gain of tracked stocks, +5.88 percent, +0.50 points, to end the day at 9.00. The blue-chip index had fallen 150 points during today’s trading but managed to pare losses and finish the day +0.02 percent, as investors anticipate the government’s jobs report and a meeting of Fed officials next week. Although the Nasdaq index was spurred on by Facebook’s strong earnings report, the broader market was not terribly active today one way or the other, although the other two indexes did move up slightly, and all three are up 18 percent on the year. CNNMoney reports the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up +13.37 points, +0.09 percent, to close at 15,555.61. The Nasdaq gained +0.71 percent, +25.59 points, to end the day at 3,605.19, while the S&P moved up +0.26 percent, +4.31 points, to close at 1,690.25. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite fell -3.87 percent to end at 1000.8. Stocks for the most part drifted down in today’s trading, despite good housing news, but Apple’s better than expected earnings kept the tech-heavy Nasdaq just above the red line, as the Dow and S&P fell into the red. CNNMoney reports the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down 25.50 points, -0.16 percent, to close at 15,542.24. The Nasdaq nudged up +0.01 percent, +0.33 points, to end the day at 3,579.60, while the S&P lost -0.38 percent, -6.45 points, to close at 1,685.94. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite gained +1.23 percent to end at 1041.1.
