Capitalism, Socialism, & Manufactured Housing

People are entitled to their own beliefs, but not to their own facts. Which should cause the open minded to ask, what are the facts?

Big government has been among the challenges for manufactured housing (MH) for decades.  So, this is a topic that matters to everyone who makes an honest living in America, including the professionals and investors working in MHVille.

Among the opponents for the manufactured home community sector, and other parts of the industry as well, is the anti-business group, MH Action.  They are often de facto arguing from a socialistic world view. The related report, linked below, can be read later for more depth about that group.

Manufactured Home Community Owner Alert, Rent Control, MHAction Plans Organized Action in Several States

Let’s state that the Daily Business News prefers to use the term ‘free enterprise’ rather than capitalism. Why?  Because the term ‘capitalism’ comes from the pages of the co-father of modern socialism, Karl Marx.

That disclaimer noted, manufactured housing professionals that have hired younger workers are likely to have people on staff who have been led to believe that socialism is good, and that capitalism is evil.

Thus the first video by millennial Ben Shaprio – attorney, writer and TV commentator – destroys the appeal of socialism during the first 2 minutes with a simple proposition that every open minded person can understand.  The rest of the video are useful additional insights, and related facts or logic.  Let’s note that it isn’t just the young that buy into or promote socialism, as Bernie Sanders aptly demonstrates.

Dave Ramsey isn’t a fan of manufactured homes, as the Daily Business News has previously reported. So, he is another example of the importance of selecting the wheat from the chaff, and we all produce both to various degrees.

These two videos are worth sharing with those team members who may have been propagandized into believing something contrary to the decades of evidence that proves that socialism doesn’t works.

Venezuela, Nazi Germany, Communist China or Soviet Russia-  before the later two abandoned pure socialism – are just some of the cases in recent world history why socialism doesn’t work.

It should also be noted that Nazis (“national socialist”) and communists in Russia and China are responsible for more deaths than anything else in world history.

“Death by Government,” Fascism, Communism, Socialism, ‘Big Brother,’ per Williams, Rummel and Owens

Socialism is un-American.  People have the right to believe in it, but they have the same right to believe in the tooth fairy.

People are entitled to their own beliefs, but not to their own facts. With socialism on the rise in America, each of us should do our part to fight off what is strangling Venezuela, Cuba, and other places past and present in the world. Each of us are either part of the solution, or part of the problem. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis and commentary.)

Promoting Home Ownership and Private Property is Premised by Understanding This

Private property rights are a foundational issue for the manufactured housing industry, and all other housing professionals, and consumers.

Nevertheless, those private property rights, along with many others, are widely misunderstood.

Primaries will be decided in several states today. How engaged are most Americans in politics?  How well do most Americans understand the U.S. Constitution, or the Bill of Rights?

For decades, the answer has been too few, and it’s getting worse.

Going back to Dec 15, 1991, the New York Times reported that “The bar association’s survey offered multiple choices. Thirty-three percent correctly identified the Bill of Rights as the Constitution’s first 10 amendments; 28 percent said it was a preamble to the Constitution; 22 percent said it is any rights bill passed by Congress; 7 percent chose “a message of rebellion…”

In September 2017, the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center revealed just how dismal the understanding of the rights of “We, the People” are today.

For example, the Annenberg report said in part:

WhatAreRightsGuaranteedbyFirstAmendment

The First Amendment reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Contrary to the First Amendment, 39 percent of Americans support allowing Congress to stop the news media from reporting on any issue of national security without government approval. That was essentially unchanged from last year. But the survey, which followed a year of attacks on the news media, found less opposition to prior restraint (49 percent) than in 2016 (55 percent).”

Why it Matters to MHVille

As noted, failure to understand private property and other rights defended by the Constitution have already encroached upon Americans, and our industry, for years.

The Daily Business News knows that a growing percentage of readers are millennials, and others who have had an incomplete understanding of their rights, and the strengths of the “American Way.”

That ignorance about the basics of the American way premised upon free enterprise, and a limited federal government system are pushing American politics.  While that trend is frankly easier to spot in the Democratic party – many of whom are openly embracing socialism – than the GOP, it would be foolish to believe that the tilt to the left hasn’t influenced both major parties.

It has.

Yet the historic wealth of the nation arose from free enterprise, which is founded upon what the founders called “God-given” rights, that are protected by a government of enumerated – meaning, defined and limited – powers.

PercentPeopleName3BranchesGovernmenAnnembergPublicPolicy2017ManufacturedHousingINdustryDailyBuisnessNewsMHProNews

The Constitution limits the government, which is a way of protecting the people from an overreach by public officials.

The lurch towards more government power, higher taxes and higher regulations, are among the causes of the economic stagnation that slowed the U.S. economic growth to a crawl.  The billions flowing into America now, were preceded years ago by the reverse flow of money out, as taxes and regulations became too onerous.

While the economy is moving more rapidly ahead now that even 18 months ago, the U.S. economy has not yet achieved it potential. Gains have been established by more pro-growth, pro-business – which tends to be, good for job creation and thus higher wages –  changes in policy.  But if cutting regulations and taxes are reversed at the polls next November, then millions could effectively and tragically be voting themselves into a more limited future.

Limited Government of Enumerated Powers Protects Your Rights

Was the Constitution written in a way that was designed to protect freedom and limit the government’s size? Has it been effective in doing that? And what’s the Supreme Court’s record when it comes to protecting our rights? Robert George, Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, answers these questions and more,” per the Prager University YouTube page the video below is found.

Political Limits on Power Protect Economic Interests and Private Property Rights

Even though the U.S. in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) is still the dominant economic power, our economic lead as a nation has been essentially cut in half in the years since World War II.

The video posted pushes 5 factors that are good, two frankly require far more nuanced attention to be accurate (trade and globalization). Free trade, as the Trump Administration says, must be fair trade, or else jobs have and will flow from the U.S. into other countries.

It is MHProNews’ editorial view that “free enterprise” is a better term that “capitalism,” which is a term actually coined by Karl Marx.

The above noted, the video above from Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, explains some key concepts in just a few minutes.

Think about this, hasn’t much of the problems that the industry has faced directly connected with some local, state or federal government over-reach, or failure to properly? Consider having your staff and colleagues take 15 minutes to read this, and watch the 2 videos. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Troubling New Study Reveals a Millennial Trend, Business, Economic, Political Impact

November 15th, 2017 Comments off

SocialismScreensWomanLookingDailyBusinessNesMHProNewsTruth can be taught and caught.

But so too can error, delusions, deceptions, and lies.

People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it,” said Walter C. Langer, a psychoanalyst.  That observation of Langer’s is very much in keeping with tenants of the propagandists who caused the rise of National Socialists – the Nazis – as well as of communist leaders, like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, and others.

MHProNews periodically hears and receives unsolicited comments about millennials and their attitudes on issues that impact their work, views and voting.

It’s an issue in the minds of many in management, employers and owners.

Also important, how do people who don’t grasp “the American way” discover the American Dream, including home ownership?  How do those who misunderstand concepts such as free enterprise, and private property respond to policies that may oppose that system and those rights?

HalfMillennialsCorrectlyDefineCapitalismYouGovVictimsOfCommunismManufacturedHomeProfessionalNewsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

A new survey performed by YouGov reveals that some 44 percent of Millennials accept socialism, slightly more than those who favor capitalism.

While MHProNews believes that the better term to use is free enterprise as opposed to capitalism – because the term “capitalist” was coined by socialist Karl Marx, and thus plays into their narrative – nevertheless the trend ought to be a concern.

Nor are they alone in holding that or other troubling views.  The study was commissioned by the Victims of Communism, a non-profit group.  It’s called their “Annual Report of U.S. Attitudes Toward Socialism.”

AmericansDividedOnEconomicSystemYouGovVictimsOfCommunismManufacturedHomeProfessionalNewsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews720

In a release to MHProNews, here are some of that group’s top-line discoveries.

Communism was and is still a problem—up 5% from 2016.

Americans still have a lot to learn about communism 5 7 in 10 Americans either don’t know the definition of communism or misidentify it.

The solution to the divide is more opportunity, not less. See video, below.

7 out of 10 underestimate number killed by communism.  It should be noted that a university researcher in Hawaii has published on a related topic, and he found that those that died under godless Nazi or communist systems far outweighed all those that died in so-called religious wars.

Is something happening in Venezuela? 6 in 10 are unfamiliar with Nicolás Maduro.

Communist leaders are cited as heroes to their countries by 10-20% of Americans.

The entire survey can be downloaded at this link here.

Why Should Business or Investment Professionals be Concerned?

Among the elements of concern that should be of concern to business professionals and politicos are points like these.

Millennials, per the YouGov research, while increasingly understanding of ills of communism, have a disconnect between communism and socialism.  More are willing to opt for socialist nation than a free enterprise based economy.  For those who believe that government is the solution for anything, the very issues – such as affordable housing, that free enterprise is proven for centuries is the best solution – will only increase.

Will Various PreFab, Factory Built Homes Become Los Angeles’ Affordable Housing Solution?

Thus, is it any surprise that so many millennials were willing to support Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic race for their presidential nominee?

America, Manufactured Housing & Debate Over Minimum Wage$

While the Donna Brazile book bruhaha has underscored the “rigged’ nature of that contest, perhaps equally troubling for business professionals and investors is this.  With millions of millennials embracing socialistic concepts, and given their growing influence at the ballot, could the day come that they vote ever more socialists into office?

“Hacks” – Explosive 2016 Campaign Claims by Former DNC Chair, Donna Brazile

Considering what took place in Venezuela, which a decade ago was a relatively prosperous nation, could that happen in America?

arutherBrooksPraegerUMythsLiesCapitalismManufacturedHousingINdustryResearchDataReportsMHProNews

MHProNews intended to continue to develop the industry’s first and still best professional resource that identifies opportunities, doesn’t ignore problem areas, while promoting common-sense solutions. Still from the video below.

The Republic of California…and a Direct MH Connection

An industry professional with deep ties to the community sector of manufactured homes said this to MHProNews in a recently emailed statement. “California does not believe in property rights, plain and simple. We want your single family home rezoned multifamily, so you can’t rebuild your dream home. What’s yours is mine what’s mine is mine.”

Indeed, others in various parts of the country have told MHProNews something similar about their difficulties with local officials, and not always from so-called blue states.

Solutions?

If the roots of the problem are misinformation, isn’t the only solution good information?

The parent company to MHProNews did a test, by hiring a millennial who was a Bernie Sanders supporter. While that person ultimately didn’t work out as a team member, by providing that person who specific reading and viewing assignments, several mistaken economic and political notions where significantly modified.

That person’s work product also improved as a result.

Just as many employers are finding it necessary to do remedial education and training, perhaps the same needs to be done for those workers who may hold to such demonstrably mistaken views.

MHProNews began a periodic series of reports some time ago that focused on general economic, political and other issues – for example, the minimum wage – and how that actually works in practice.

Only understanding and clear thinking can counteract propaganda and deception. Truth can and should prevail, but it will do so only if it is passed on, person to person. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

CATO CEO Says Free Markets Are the Answer

September 26th, 2012 1 comment
alison-john-cato-ceo-credit-united-liberty-posted-mhpronews.com-daily-business-news-The CATO Institute’s CEO, John A. Allison, is making the case that free markets not government are the solution to what caused the banking crisis. In his book,”The Financial Crisis and the Free Market Cure: Why Pure Capitalism is the World Economy’s Only Hope.” In a column to AB, Allison states that: “Many life insurance companies and other investors like having government guarantees on their assets (via Freddie, Fannie, or the FHA). However, this is very destructive public policy because it pushes the risk to taxpayers and not market participants.” Alison also said, “A major component of the solution will be provided by existing commercial banks that retain home mortgages in their portfolios the way the S&Ls did. One of the few major economic systems to have limited problems as a result of the financial crisis is Canada. One reason the Canadian banks did relatively well is that they portfolio home mortgages. While there are some housing subsidies in Canada, the banks do not have to compete with the government, that is, Freddie, Fannie, and the FHA. Also, since the banks were holding the mortgages on their books, they cared about the credit risk and underwrote the risk rationally.”
