Will Current Political Currents Lead to a Top 70 Percent U.S. Tax Rate in 2021?

January 22nd, 2019 Comments off

Facts are what they are and should not be over or under stated.  For example, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-D) is a formidable political figure, a potent fund raise, and the most powerful elected female office holder in the U.S. today.

All those points about Speaker Pelosi are realities.

NancyPelosiTwitterFollowersDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But it is equally true that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez – @AOC – has more Twitter followers than Speaker Pelosi.

AlexandriaOcasioCortezAOCTwitterDailyBusienssNewsMHProNews

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY-D)’s Twitter following is shown below. Clearly, he holds the most powerful chair on the Democratic side in the U.S. Senate.

SenChuckSchumerManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But then consider Senator Bernie Senator (VT-I but caucuses with Democrats), who dwarfs the three above.  One reading of this is that the further left a candidate or politico seems to be, the more Twitter followers that they appear to have.

SenatorBernieSandersManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Or look at the Twitter followers for Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA-D), who has an exploratory committee launched for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. She has roughly an equal number of Twitter followers as Speaker Pelosi or Minority leader Schumer have.

What’s Up With That Headline?

This left-of-center MSNBC video does a decent job of running through some of AOC’s outline, and explains some of the reasons why it might not work out the way she claims.

What the video above doesn’t mention is that hundreds of billions of dollars have flowed into the U.S. since the tax cuts were passed in late 2017, and went into effect in 2018.

$500billionHalfTrilliondollarsRepatriations2018RepatriatedFromTaxCuts2017DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Those repatriated dollars brought money into the U.S. Treasury, and has provided huge pools of money that are being invested in various ways across the 50 states.

AOCTopTaxRate70PercentMSNBCDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But facts don’t matter for millions who may not understand the ways that proposals like AOC’s could cost the nation.

The election cycle never stops in the U.S., certainly not at the federal level.  No sooner than one election is completed, and the results are sorted out, the next election cycle is underway.  Democrats could have 20 to 50 candidates that raise their banner for their party’s nominee for the presidency.

What the Twitter followers data suggests is where the energy” is with significant portions of the “base” of the Democratic party. The experience of Venezuela is moot to those who don’t follow the facts.

One of the best defenses against having the economic shock that significantly higher tax rates would bring is education of those in your circle of influence.

Arguably no one in MHVille is providing more meat and potato intellectual meals for the reality checks needed to make more voters think.  That’s this evening’s look at the trends that are causing concerns among some investors, which in turn have caused more uncertainty in the markets.  It’s not the only thing, but it is a thing. “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

‘Use Government to Handcuff Your Rivals, Clever’ – Stossel

November 14th, 2018 Comments off

Still from video below, but the headline graphic is by MHProNews.

What’s the “Enemy of Capitalism?”  That’s a question that John Stossel asks in this thought-provoking video.

There are good reasons for taking a ‘wheat and chaff’ approach to information sourcing. Sometimes it will be the Washington Post, but at other times, it may be the Washington Examiner or the Hill. A progressive may be wrong on some topics but could be correct on another.  The same is true for a Democrat, libertarian, or a given Republican, etc.

MediaBiasChartSharylAttkissonLeftRightPostedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Full Measure’s Sharyl Attiksson’s media bias chart is useful in sorting out the agendas behind various headlines and news sources.

In a brand new video, John Stossel takes a look at the question, “who is the enemy of capitalism?”

The video opens with democratic socialist supporter Senator Bernie Sanders recent attack on: Amazon. Sanders said Amazon didn’t pay its workers enough and because of that, many qualified for government assistance.

Stossel build the narrative, one step at a time, until he gets to the headline statement, above.  So don’t bail 3 minutes into a video that is less than 7 minutes long, and has had 10x more views in a day than Clayton Homes’ image campaign video has had in a year.

EnemyofCapitalismJohnStosselFoxDaillyBusinessNewsMHproNews

To see our fact check of the Clayton image campaign, see the new report, linked here.

Stossel nails in a general way an issue that MHProNews has raised for years that is specifically impacts manufactured housing.  Namely, that Big Companies are using the levers of government power to outmaneuver, force out of business, or even gobble up smaller firms.

It’s a vexing pattern that goes beyond our industry, but must be grasped with open eyes by MH Professionals – including those who work for a giant company like Clayton. Ending Rigged, Corrupted Systems, & Manufactured Housing Advancement

There’s a swamp in Washington, D.C. But let’s be clear, there are swampy, rigged, and corrupted stuff occurring in states and local jurisdictions too.  Each of these impact manufactured home owners and professionals, day be day.

CashHandsEndingRiggedcrruptedSystemsManufacturedHousingAdvancementWithSundayMorningMHIndustryHeadlineRecapDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

It may seem odd at first to name them both in the same paragraph, but both Senator Bernie Sanders and President Donald J. Trump share this in common. They’ve tapped into the millions who believe that the systems been rigged and corrupted.

That’s almost where their similarities end. Senator Sanders (I-VT) is openly promoting a socialist agenda that’s failed almost everywhere in the world that its ever been tried.

By contrast, President Donald J. Trump – a former Democrat turned Republican – promotes an agenda that shares similar items what worked for Democratic President John “Jack” F. Kennedy and former democrat turned GOP President Ronald R. Reagan.

There are many reasons why Donald Trump captured 1/3 of the counties that previously voted for Senator (D-IL) turned President, Barack Hussein Obama.

Manufactured Housing and The Swamp

Manufactured housing could be roughly 10 times larger than it is today. So why isn’t it bigger? Several reasons. We explore those on a periodic basis, while spotlighting the factors that should result in more manufactured home sales.

The industry needs an independent voice – like this platform, and our publicly focused sister-site, MHLivingNews.com – that use a factual, evidence-based, and common sense ways of evaluating the realities and possibilities for manufactured homes in America today.

One of many things are certain. Like hate or no-opinion on President Donald J. Trump’s style, the future of his initial and planned reforms will depend on GOP victories from coast to coast.

Don’t dismiss – not buy-into – the so-called ‘blue wave.’ Keep in mind the same sources that say that anti-Trump candidates will win in November are those who crowned Secretary Hillary Queen… – err, excuse me, ‘president’ – in 2016.

There’s energized Democratic, Independent, and GOP voters. It’s always about who shows up.

PresidentDonaldJTrumpFirstLadyMelaniaTrumpPhotoLATonyKovachDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews505

We don’t hide who we support, and we proudly supported him in 2016 too. We proved correct then, and it can be so once again.  It’s all up to everyday people, like you, us, and others…by the millions.  The system can still work, but it means getting up and going to vote wisely.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the one we believed would be best for the manufactured home industry, independent businesses, and hundreds of millions of Americans. As the screen capture above proves, one of those pro-Trump stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

One Big Difference Between 2016 and 2018

The biggest difference between 2016 and 2018 are results. President Trump has proven he can do what Secretary Clinton and former President Barack Obama’s said he couldn’t and wouldn’t do.

That’s the reason you should start talking up President Trump’s record vs the false claims and smoke-screen distractions of his opponents.

Love or hate POTUS Trump’s style, he’s getting results he promised. If the House is held, and the margins in the Senate and House grow, we bet he’ll give us more victories for business and income growth in the future.

We’ll review the headlines on the week in review, starting with MHLivingNews, then the Masthead, and finally, the stories on the week that was etched into history on the Daily Business News on MHProNews.

Epic Battle for MHVille Mainstay Looms, With “Not the Most Popular Guy” and His Rival

August 29th, 2018 Comments off
CongRonDesantisMayorAndrewGillumManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Official photos, Ron DeSantis left, and Andrew Gillum right..

Florida is a top state for manufactured housing (MH). Battles like this one will define the business climate for years to come. Don’t be surprised if some resident group, like MHAction, gets involved.

Don’t let past habits or lethargy lull you into complacence, because what happens in this looming Florida contest matters to business owners, MH industry professionals, residents, and investors.

Congressman Ron DeSantis beat Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in the Florida Primary. Putnam received some digital ink from the Florida Manufactured Housing Association (FMHA) earlier this year, when he visited the Cavco production center in Plant City, FL.

Ag Commissioner, Gubernatorial Candidate Adam Putnam Tours Palm Harbor Plant

DeSantis modestly say in this first video that he’s “not the most popular guy” in D.C., due in part to his role in opposing the Congressional slush fund for paying off claims of sexual improprieties. So that race, in a state where about one in ten live in a pre-HUD Code mobile home, or a post Code manufactured home is an important one.

Both winners in the Florida gubernatorial primaries last night are big news.

Why?

Because the Democratic winner was endorsed by self-declared socialistic Senator Bernie Sanders. Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum Is the first black American who could become the governor of the Sunshine State. Gillum beat a rival with greater name recognition, and more money.

Gillum, like Senator Sanders, is also a self-declared socialist. Democrats will watch this development with mixed feelings.

Gillum’s GOP rival DeSantis trailed Putnam, up until President Donald J. Trump tweeted his support.

AdamPutnamVsRonDeSantisDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

After years of mostly anti-Trump media coverage – per third party studies, as much as 90 percent against the president – POTUS Donald J. Trump’s support still clearly matters. Mr. Trump’s approval has risen, in spite of the onslaught, a strong lesson for manufactured housing thinkers and doers.

More recently, President Trump held a rally in Florida, and gave his full-throated endorsement. Putnam has pledged his support to DeSantis.

So yesterday’s winners have this in common. Each received the support of a “big name” – POTUS Trump and Senator Sanders. Each man won after they were initially expected to lose.

The business environment in Florida has been good under Governor Rick Scott, who also won, and will face off against incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in November.  That too will be a tough fight, but the edge may be toward Rick Scott, who also enjoys the 45th president’s support. There are concerns in the Democratic camp about how Nelson has been doing in the polls.

Florida is one of the top states for manufactured housing in the nation. Factories for the majors and independents, and thousands of communities are here.  The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform’s list of top states is below, and lists Florida behind #1 Texas, and #2 Louisiana.

The Takeaways

The Daily Business News for several months has been reporting on the trend of rising support among millennials and others for socialism. This trade media platform has also been periodically reporting the meltdown in Venezuela, which matters because that’s socialism in action after just ten years.

There’s corruption around the globe, but it exists in socialist countries too. While socialist leaders dine well, Venezuelans are slowly starving. Over two million have fled the country.

It’s the subject that Bernie Sanders, who once praised Venezuela’s move to socialism, now wants to avoid.

The socialist Gillum will be pitted against the POTUS Trump supporting – and supported – Congressman Ron DeSantis.

For manufactured housing, it’s the question of someone who is pro-business and pro-growth, vs. someone who will try to tap the rising tide of socialist thinking among Democrats.

It’s serious. While DeSantis should win, as always, it will depend on turnout and avoiding stumbles.  Expect President Trump to be here during the campaign.

With a socialist on the ballot facing off against a pro-Trump wingman, it could be a spirited debate. It should be an epic contest, one important for business leaders and investors to get engaged in.  See the related reports, further below, for more details. “We Provide, You Decide.” ##

ObamaCare “repeal and replace.” Numerous issues of importance to manufactured housing professionals could be influenced by the shakeups taking place on both sides of the D/R political divide.

The GOP is watching as veteran senators and congressional representatives are announcing they will not seek reelection.

With a mostly left-tilting mainstream media, per third party research such as what’s shown linked here, it’s the GOP splits that tend to make more headlines.

But on the Democratic side, there are fractures too.  They can’t be over-emphasized, as in both the Senate and House, Democrats tend to hang together on the partisan issues.

Yet, it’s the growing scandals coming out of the 2016 race that threatens to upend some big names in Democratic politics.

The four videos shown – two from left-of-center media outlets, and two from right-of-center Fox Business – provide snapshots on issues raised last week on the Daily Business News on the Donna Brazile revelations, as well as some insights from MSNBC on how the so-called Russian dossier was bought and paid for mostly by the Clinton campaign, and the DNC.

With voting tomorrow, 2018 and 2020 on political insiders minds, these developments could shake up the Democratic landscape as much as Donald Trump has shaken up the Republican Establishment.

“Hacks” – Explosive 2016 Campaign Claims by Former DNC Chair, Donna Brazile

November 2nd, 2017 Comments off

HacksDonnaBrazileHachetteBooksWIkipediaManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Politico has published a 2200-word excerpt spotlighted by the Drudge Report from what promises to be a hot book soon to be released.

The title?

Hacks,” provides Donna Brazile view of what she discovered after her Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair predecessor, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was pushed out of the post, due to exposes from WikiLeaks.

The title sounds like a creative play on words, implying that the election was ‘hacked,’ but also perhaps a reference to politicos who are ‘hacks?’

Some of Brazile’s Top Line Claims…

Per Politico’s excerpt from Brazile’s book –Hacks,”

  • President Barack Obama left the DNC and the party in debt and in a mess,
  • Debbie Wasserman Schultz was a weak leader, who allowed ‘Brooklyn’ – code for Sec. Hillary Clinton’s campaign headquarters – to effectively run the DNC, even before she won the nomination,
  • She pledged to Bernie Sanders to let him know what she learned, and that what she learned was that his hunch that the 2016 nominating process was rigged was correct,
  • That Hillary Clinton was not a shoe in to win, because there was a lack of enthusiasm from the Obama coalition,
  • That Sec. Clinton was too close to the financial interests in this country (including, but not named in this segment, one Warren Buffett),

HillaryClintonPoliitcoGetty-postedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsHacks

Almost a year after the election, and not long after Hillary’s book, “What Happened?” – Hacks could upend the thoughts and approaches on both sides of the political aisle.

Quotable Quotes by Brazile from Hacks

DonnaBrazileWikipediaPostedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsSo I followed the money. My predecessor, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, had not been the most active chair in fundraising at a time when President Barack Obama’s neglect had left the party in significant debt.”

Debbie was not a good manager. She hadn’t been very interested in controlling the party—she let Clinton’s headquarters in Brooklyn do as it desired so she didn’t have to inform the party officers how bad the situation was.”

By September 7, the day called Bernie, I had found my proof and it broke my heart.”

The Saturday morning after the convention in July, I called Gary Gensler, the chief financial officer of Hillary’s campaign. He wasted no words. He told me the Democratic Party was broke and $2 million in debt.”

Obama left the party $24 million in debt—$15 million in bank debt and more than $8 million owed to vendors after the 2012 campaign—and had been paying that off very slowly. Obama’s campaign was not scheduled to pay it off until 2016. Hillary for America (the campaign) and the Hillary Victory Fund (its joint fundraising vehicle with the DNC) had taken care of 80 percent of the remaining debt in 2016, about $10 million, and had placed the party on an allowance.”

Brazile said she told Sanders that while ‘all the polls’ favored Clinton, she didn’t feel the enthusiasm that kept the Obama Coalition together.  That’s an interesting point, because about a year ago, the Daily Business News on MHProNews – using mainstream media polls, but digging into the “internals” of the polls and cross referencing them, made very similar points in saying that Donald Trump could win.

The entire excerpt from Hacks, per left-of-center Politico Magazine, can be download here.

Food for Thought…

It isn’t likely to be in Hacks, nor will it likely be said by Brazile.

wikileaksbulletsopenborderswikileaksfoxhannitymanufacturedhousingindustrydailybusinessnewsmhpronews

It should be noted that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has said that the Russians weren’t the source of the DNC documents he was provided.  He’s hinted on Hannity that it was a now dead DNC staffer, Seth Rich.

privatepositionpublicpositionwikileaks2016podestaemailsmanufacturedhousingindustrydailybusinessnewsmhpronews

Editorially – during last year’s campaign – MHProNews supported Trump over Clinton as better for Manufactured Housing and for the nation, based upon each campaign’s stated policies and their respective histories. Related, click here.

Assange has told a Republican Congressman, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher – that if the WikiLeaks founder is promised immunity – a deal that is always contingent on solid proof – he can prove the Russians didn’t provide him the information that some believe helped Donald Trump become president.

wikileaksbulletpointshannityfox-postedmanufacturedhousingindustrydailybusinessnews-mhpronews

Among the Clinton Campaign revelations by WikiLeaks are comments that disparaged Latinos as ‘needy.’ Credit, Fox News/Sean Hannity shown, which AdWeek noted has surpassed all other cable news shows in their most recent survey of viewership.

Also, while President Obama remained personally popular, the Democrats lost some 1,000 seats at the federal, state, and local level during his administration.

WikiLeaks Clinton Open Trade, Open Borders.

The “dream’ was in a paid speech by Hillary Clinton to South American bankers.

As MHProNews has reported,
markets have soared since President Trump has taken office,
consumer confidence is up, business confidence is up,
and much more.

The Trump administration works day-by-day to keep his campaign promises.  Those points also are unlikely to be in Brazile’s book. We’re proud to have supported the Trump team, then and now.

Bernie Sanders, Steve Forbes, Prager U – Tax Reform, Facts, Fiction, and Fake News

If you listen to Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Hillary Clinton or her supporters – such as Warren Buffett – you’d think that the rich aren’t paying enough in taxes.  Their answer?

Raise them.

Tax the rich sounds easy, especially when there are fewer of them to vote against the tax hike.

On the other side are those who believe that “The power to tax is the power to destroy,” as Supreme Court Justice John Marshall famously said.

Raise taxes too much, and capital flees.  The evidence?

Just look at the trillions parked overseas by big U.S. companies, say tax reform proponents, and you’ll see their point.

In fact, Sanders – who famously honeymooned in the Soviet Union – should realize that those socialistic programs ultimately fail.  A look at a satellite photo of Florida and Cuba, or North and South Korea, makes those points.

George Mason University study revealed that the cost of compliance and economic costs of the current tax system total hundreds of billions of dollars – every year. Forbes argues for tax reform to change a system that favors the rich, who alone can navigate a 10,000,000 word tax code. Image credit, still from a video posted on this page. Image credit, Prager U.

Resource rich Venezuela, after a decade of socialist leadership, is teetering on the edge of political and economic chaos.  That, say pro-free market, limited-government believers, is a current example of what America faces if changes aren’t made under the Trump Administration.

SouthFloridaCubaNorthSouthKoreaSatelliteNightSocialismFreeMarketsManufacutredHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsLess than two weeks ago, Millennial Julia Granowicz wrote a foundation commentary that set the stage to examine economic freedom, taxation, and other issues, and how they impact American businesses – including, of course – manufactured housing.

Yesterday, the Daily Business News reported on concerns that Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) expressed that forces on the left, and also from ‘the right’ – the GOP – were threating tax reform.

Prior GOP candidate for president, publisher and billionaire Steve Forbes has sounded the warning on taxes this week too.

In the two videos on this page, one tees up his general thinking on where tax reform should ultimately head, and why.

Forbes promotes the flat tax as the fairest, most pro-business, pro-jobs, pro-growth way to drain the swamp, even before that term was coined or mentioned.

The second video with Forbes expresses his concerns about tax reform.

For fair and balance, we share the video with Bernie Sanders, who lays out his vision.

Compare, Think

We Provide, You Decide.” © See which vision makes the most sense in the real world.  Ask yourself, why would so many billionaires say they support tax hikes, and then watch as they shift their wealth to foreign countries with lower taxes?

Why do so many of the ultra-rich – like Facebook’s founder – and soon to me factory built housing entry? – Mark Zuckerberg – promote “universal income,” and then use tax loopholes to minimize his own taxes and maximize his own power and wealth?

There is fake news in manufactured housing, and fake news about manufactured housing, reported RC Williams.

The taxation issue is one that it is time to dig into and deeply understand.

Universal Basic Income-The Evolution of Poverty Pimping?

Are Democrats looking to keep doing what they’ve done to the masses? Trump’s plans could cause them problems. Credit: Communities Digital News.

In what many have called “Trumponomics,” the battle lines became even more clearly drawn last week.

At the Harvard commencement speech, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made the call for Universal Basic Income (UBI).

Every generation expands its definition of equality. Now it’s time for our generation to define a new social contract,” said Zuckerberg.

We should have a society that measures progress not by economic metrics like GDP but by how many of us have a role we find meaningful. We should explore ideas like universal basic income to make sure everyone has a cushion to try new ideas.”

According to CNBC, Zuckerberg’s comments reflect those of other Silicon Valley bigwigs, including Sam Altman, the president of venture capital firm Y Combinator.

Because I knew I had a safety net if projects like Facebook had failed, I was confident enough to continue on without fear of failing,” said Zuckerberg.

Others, such as children who need to support households instead of poking away on computers learning how to code, don’t have the foundation. Universal basic income would provide that sort of cushion.”

Magic Money? Vote Buying Happy Talk?

While the thought of free basic needs money for everyone sounds like a wonderful idea, the inevitable question becomes… how do you pay for it?

Many Democrats have tapped into the “you need help, here you go” ethos for decades. With the revolution of social programs during the LBJ administration, the stage was set for generations that became dependent on social programs, and continued to elect candidates who promised to continue them.

And the perception of the promise has had tremendous value… to them.

Politicians and their media allies have learned a form of vote buying that may not require any deliverable payment… ever.

Promises are made, politicos are elected, and bills are passed…

…but no actual change takes place.

22TrillionSpentWarOnPovertyHeritagePostedDaillyBusinessNewsMHProNews

The estimated $22 trillion dollars spent on the War on Poverty, which turned 50, exceeds the total national debt of some 20 trillion dollars. The poverty rate was coming down in the U.S. through free enterprise, and the perhaps well intentioned, but still misguided, impact of poverty programs has not proven to move the needle of poverty, as the graphic above demonstrates. Or as MHProNews publisher L. A. “Tony” Kovach said in Poverty vs. Prosperity, a recent Masthead post, ‘whatever you subsidize, you tend to get more of it.’  The Trump Administration seems to be taking a phased approach to winding down programs and regulations that have proven not to perform as advertised.

Former President Barack Obama signed a bill into law that was supposed to give equal pay for equal work.

Yet the Obama White House staff, the Clinton campaign and the Clinton Foundation – for all the happy talk of wage equality – were documented NOT to pay women equally to men.

So… How Do You Pay For It?

Michael Steele. Credit: Atlanta Black Star.

In a recent radio interview, former RNC Chair Michael Steele posed an important question in response to Zuckerberg’s call for UBI.

Why doesn’t he start with his own organization and put in a standard minimum income for all of his employees and see how that works for his shareholders,” said Steele on the Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily.

It’s what you say when you want to sound like you’re with it and cool, you know, I’ve got this real progressive view on taxes and everybody owes everybody else. You do your thing, let me do mine and we’ll work it out. The government doesn’t need to be going around setting anybody’s minimum on anything.”

The Trump Effect – The Desert… of the Real

What President Trump started during the campaign, and has continued during his administration, is exposing many of the fallacies that have led to 20 trillion in federal debt, huge trade imbalances, a loss of manufacturing and energy jobs to other nations.

And, as the Band-Aid is now being ripped off… the painful process of revealing and then rolling these fallacies back, those who have politically benefited react in the way that they know best.

Democrats have long argued for $15 minimum wage, yet according to a class action suit filed by DNC campaign workers, the party failed to pay them even the current minimum wage. This past week, Democrats in Congress on Thursday introduced a bill that would increase minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024, and used their media allies to set the narrative.

What we are here today to say is that a living wage is $15… if you are working 40 or 50 hours a week, you should not be living in poverty,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT.)

If Republicans and President Trump are truly serious about standing up for workers, they’ll join us in fighting for a $15 minimum wage. … We’re going to continue fighting tooth and nail for this,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Meanwhile, President Trump has just returned from his first overseas visit, closing billion dollars of business designed to deliver hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs to U.S. shores.

President Trump’s triumphant visit to the Middle East is likely to be remembered as the occasion that changed not just United States foreign policy, but potentially the balance of power in the region,” a statement from the White House’s 1600 Daily email read.

The Bottom Line

BigLeaguePresidentialDealsUnderminesDCNarrativeofStrugglingTrumpAdministrationcreditWhiteHouse2-postedtothedailybusinessnewsmhpronewsmhlivingnews

The President sits down with the Saudis. Credit: The White House.

President Trump and his administration are working to get to the root cause of the multi-decade long problem of flat wage growth, which can be summed up in the widely approved phrase, “the law of supply and demand.”

By addressing and attacking low wage worker inflow, unfair trade deals, taxes and regulation, repatriation of billions offshore, public private partnerships and energy independence, the administration is using the law of supply and demand to deliver solutions.

The markets are betting that Trumponomics is already working and will continue to work, as record growth continues.

The NFIB, MHARR and others are calling for, and support, many of these same changes.

The Daily Business News will continue to monitor and report on the various groups – including advocacy media – that attempt to shift or spin the discussion from the realities that are necessary to properly understand and act upon needed changes for sustained economic growth. ##

Clinton Clinches, Sanders Perseveres, Trump Polishes

June 9th, 2016 Comments off

white_house__dc_dot_about_creditHillary Clinton, her win in the California primary officially making her the presumptive Democratic presidential contender learned from her mistakes in the 2008 election when Barack Obama’s team outmaneuvered her. This year her campaign manager, Robby Mook, and Marlon Marshall, director of state campaigns and political engagement, realized the strength of Bernie Sanders’ draw when he raised $25 million last Sept., just $3 million less than Clinton, reports The Washington Post to MHProNews.

They immediately went to work on mapping out a strategy aimed at shoring up the delegate count, realizing that even with the votes likely, the enthusiasm and money flowing into Sanders’ coffers meant he would likely be around for a while—and they were right, perhaps not realizing he would carry his delegates all the way to the convention floor next month, trying to get super delegates to vote for him.

According to newsmax, his staff has been cut in half since Clinton clinched the delegate count, letting go the logistics and field staff members although one current campaign official said some may work in his Senate office, others may return to work at the convention in Philadelphia.

Sanders’ appeal to the young voter, fired up about ending politics as usual, and may not have voted recently, is mirrored in Donald Trump’s appeal to a similar constituency who were also tired of politics-as-usual, felt they had been ignored and may not have voted recently either.

When Cruz dropped out in May, Clinton began operating two campaigns—one for the primary, the other the general election, but Sanders proved difficult, as he came close to winning in the Iowa primary despite arriving late, and he surprised her in Michigan March 8, winning by one-and-a-half points.

At the beginning of May when Trump clinched the delegate count in Indiana for the Republican nomination, Clinton did not want to be dismissive of Sanders, but needed to begin her politics-as-usual campaign against the unconventional style of Trump.

One staff concern was that Trump, having clinched the needed delegates, would become more presidential and change his style, as his chief strategist, Paul Manafort had assured members of the Republican National Committee.

But those fears were allayed when Trump, the night his delegate count hit the magic number, said, “Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get five percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card. And the beautiful thing is, women don’t like her. Look how well I did with women tonight.”

Clinton shot back with her often-used line: “If fighting for women’s health care and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in.”

But Clinton cannot count on Trump continuing to stub his toe. He is very tough, and her campaign has to assure that Trump will not take votes away from her.

As Karen Tumulty tells MHProNews, “Clinton has already made history by locking up the nomination. And she has shown that she can learn from her own mistakes. Now comes the biggest chance of all, and this time, there will be no margin for error.”

Meanwhile, CNN news anchor Jake Tapper led a panel discussion Tuesday, June 7 in which he alleges reporters are treating Clinton with kid gloves on the eve of her capturing the Democratic nomination, while Donald Trump gets the tougher questions. Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany said reporters were throwing softballs at Clinton. The Washington Free Beacon reports one third of reporters’ question dealt with her making history, and one even said, “People just come up to you and they get tears in their eyes. Do you feel the weight of what this means for people.” Boo-Hoo.

Tapper, noting the media claims that they are fair, says, Would the argument of reporters not be stronger if these ridiculously sycophantic questions that were asked of Hillary Clinton yesterday …would not that argument be stronger?” Tapper asked.

Newt Gingrich says Trump can beat Clinton if he remains focused and disciplined, “He’s going to be very formidable, and he’s going to beat Hillary very badly this fall.” Appearing on Fox News Channel’s Hannity, Gingrich said his speech Tuesday night was very presidential. “It was thoughtful. It’s what people want from a president,” and it is “a very big step in the right direction.”

Gingrich has been named as a possible running mate for Trump, although he has criticized him in the past, including his calling the judge in the Trump University case unfair.

She will not recover if she’s caught up in a big-issue election with a disciplined Donald Trump. They won’t be in the same league,” says Gingrich.

MHProNews notes that Trump promises to end Dodd-Frank, which gave birth to the CFPB and its choke-hold on free speech (the so-called MLO rule). CFPB regulations has driven out lending on the least expensive manufactured housing.  Clinton promises to keep Dodd-Frank, and will resist changes such as HR 650/S 682.  For a related report on Richard Cordray and pending industry legislative efforts, click here. Both candidates are promising major speeches and policy positions in the days ahead. ##
