RV_MH_Class_of_2016_inductees_to_RV_MH_Hall_of_Fame postedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsIn a gala ceremony before 300 friends, family and colleagues, the Class of 2016 was inducted into the RV/MH Hall of Fame (Hall) Aug. 1, at the Hall in Elkhart, Indiana.

Prior to the induction ceremonies, Hall President Darryl Searer said after four years, with support from individuals and companies, the hall is closing in on its debt-free goal, and can now boast 90 percent equity.

Searer continued, mapping out future plans for the 40-acre site that include sustained growth with the MH and RV industries, the event center and the Scoular Manufactured Housing Museum. He says, “These plans will also insure a positive cash flow to make certain the Hall will be here forever. The goal would be to have the new expanded Hall of Fame, Event Center, rally site, offices and manufactured housing museum completed by 2020 or sooner based on how soon we can raise the funds so we are debt free when we occupy the new facility.”

In addition to the inductees, Searer presented the annual Hall of Fame Spirit Award to Barry Cole, owner of MH Insurance Services, Hall of Fame member and for chairman of the RV/MH Heritage Foundation.

RV/MH Leaders Applaud Darryl Searer’s Fourth Year Leading the Hall

March 9th, 2016 Comments off

darryl searer rv mh hall of fame president rv mh creditWhen Darryl Searer agreed to a one-year commitment to volunteer as president of the RV/MH Heritage Foundation and the RV/MH Hall of Fame (Hall), little did he know his passion for the position would grow to four years—and counting. Little did industry leaders realize the extent to which he would be able to raise the profile of the non-profit, significantly reduce its debt and increase its revenue.

As MHProNews has learned from the RV/MH Hall of Fame, the list of his accomplishments include reducing the debt from $5.5 million to $1.2 million, adding a manufactured home to the museum, adding several historic RVs to the collection, and developing the Northern Indiana Event Center (NIEC) into an entertainment facility that covers over 50 percent of the Hall’s operating expenses each year, among others.

He has been lauded by industry leaders for his selfless devotion to his position. RVDA President Phil Ingrassia said, “Darryl has done an outstanding job uniting the industry behind the RV/MH Heritage Foundation and the RV/MH Hall of Fame. As a volunteer, it’s amazing the amount of work he has done to improve the visitor experience, make the hall more inclusive of all industry segments, and diversify foundation revenue.”

Cavco’s President and CEO, Joe Stegmayer, said “Darryl, a successful businessman in his own right, offered to be president and chief staff person of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum. Darryl took on these responsibilities as a true volunteer–no salary, no incentive bonus, no compensation of any sort, no perks, no benefits!”

Barry Cole, former chairman of the board, said, “The RV/MH Hall of Fame is thriving and the building will be debt free shortly because of Darryl Searer. Not bad for a guy who would not accept any salary compensation in the four years since he took over.”

Stegmayer added, “I believe we owe a special debt of gratitude to Darryl Searer for taking the helm at a particularly tough and challenging time for the Foundation. The Foundation was mired in debt and was generating operating losses each year. Now, after four years of his volunteer service, the Hall operates in the black.” ##

RV/MH Hall of Fame Kicks off New Fundraiser Challenge

September 30th, 2014 Comments off

rv mh half of fame in Elkhart INDDuring the Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) 78th annual meeting, Darryl Searer, chairman and president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Barry Cole, president of MH Insurance Services and past chairman of the Hall, urged assistance from the attendees to help retire the Hall’s debt, which has resulted from prior unfulfilled pledges. To that end, Searer unveiled a five year fundraiser to take on the debt, which is less than $2.45 million, having been reduced by $3 million over the last 30 months, as informs MHProNews. Cole, noting that Searer has been a volunteer president for the past two-and-one-half years, said the idea resulted from his conversation with Kevin Clayton, CEO of Clayton Homes, who pledged $40,000 a year for the next five years after learning of the Hall’s improved financial position. The fundraiser will be called the “Kevin Clayton Debt Elimination Challenge” in honor of his generosity. Cavco Industries, Inc. President Joe Stegmayer said, “We are presently reviewing the amount Cavco will be contributing to this worthwhile cause and will announce our pledge in October.” ##

Searer will Lead Hall of Fame for Two More Years

January 30th, 2014 Comments off

President and Treasurer of the Recreational Vehicle (RV)/Manufactured Housing (MH) Hall of Fame Darryl Searer has agreed to continue leading the Hall for an additional two years, according to chairman of the board Barry Cole. Searer will also become chairman when Cole’s term expires in 2014 because Jay Hesse, who was serving as vice-chairman and was scheduled to become chairman, had to step down from his post due to family concerns.

In March of 2012, on a non-compensation basis, Searer volunteered for a two-year term to restructure the finances of the Hall in an attempt to sustain it for the future. He managed to reduce the debt from over $5.5 million to $2.5 million, MHProNews has learned.

Searer said, “I am pleased for the opportunity to continue for two more years, as challenging as it will be. My goal during the past two years was to get the Hall where it was financially viable — we’ve done that. But our new challenge of making the Hall debt-free is incomplete. During the next two years, we hope to move as close as possible to making that a reality.” The Hall has an outstanding $550,000 bank loan, as well as a $3 million matching loan from the “Boots” Ingram family that can be paid off with $2 million, according to the terms of the agreement.
