Exploring Corporate, Association, Individual, Investor, and Governmental Corruption Involving Manufactured Housing

Go ahead, say it. Naïve, idealistic, rash, foolish, or a crusader who believes that the only way that positive change occurs is by intelligently challenging the status quo.

That challenge can and should be honorable, and it can and should be profitable.

So, pragmatism and reason are involved.

Over the years, perhaps more so recently, a periodic stream of tips and sources revealed a variety of insights into what can be termed corruption.

Submit confidential or on-the-record news tips, or comments at this linked email mailto:iReportMHNewsTips@mhmsm.com

Here are some examples, many of which have not yet been reported here on the Daily Business News on MHProNews previously. But in one or more cases, some of these may have already been turned over to the appropriate authorities.

  • Manipulating credit bureau reports.
  • Kickback schemes involving refurb, transport, or installation – among others.
  • Using undocumented labor in often dangerous ways.
  • Sexual exploitation.
  • Corruption involving local, state, or federal officials.
  • Political, professional, and other forms of backstabbing.

I’ve mentioned my brothers on occasion.  My younger brother Tom is rather an activist. We see some things alike, others differently, as is true of any two people.  One thing we’d agree upon is his latest quotation sent in his email ‘signature’ – it is this:

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

One should keep in mind that there are a variety of ways to fight what Donald Tye, Jr. called the rigged system.”  Fighting a rigged system can be as easy as a useful off-the-record news tip. Many of our tips come from major firms that are MHI members.   Support can also take the form of advertising, other forms of marketing, or using our professional business development services.  Our services have been highly praised by third-parties. Want to accelerate the process of positive, profitable change? Help us, help you, so that manufactured housing can advance.

Because what the recent trends reveal – see the linked reports below – is that accepting the status quo is taking the industry backwards. While a monopolist or the retired may be able to afford that – or may even want that for some period of time – thousands of our readers ought to avoid the risk the continuation of the current trend lines represents.

Happy Talk?  Really?

Happy talk doesn’t resolve an actual problem.  That’s like believing that looking the other way means the growing number of roaches you saw in the garage or a room will magically disappear.  Want to get rid of the vermin?  You start by shining a light — watching those roaches run confirms that they exist.  Then you have to use appropriate roach killers, because nothing else will do.

We opt not to live with ugly, nasty pests.

When it comes to people that are pests, obviously, you don’t poison them like you do an insect.

Rather, one must still deal with them in an ethical, lawful, and effective fashion.

Otherwise, they will keep doing what they have been doing.

ClaytonHomesBerkshireHathawayMarketShareofManufacturedHousingEndof2017DailyBuisnessNewsMHanufacturedHousingIndustryProNews

Clayton’s blog said that in 2017, they ‘only’ had 47.7 percent of the market share, but other sources place that market share at 50 percent. Rep. Maxine Waters accused Clayton of all manner of things. Let’s see what Chairman Waters will do – as she and other Democrats accused Clayton of being a near monopoly, alleged racism, and predatory lending – now that she heads up the powerful House Financial Services Committee, will she act?

What’s the Safest Place to Hide?

Why not take the example of Warren Buffett, Kevin Clayton, Tim Williams and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI)? Why not hide in plain sight?

See more on that and more in the linked reports below.

We’ve been public in pushing back against the Omaha-Knoxville-Arlington Axis.  While it isn’t always what I’d call fun, we’re still running the marathon.  Translation? Unless you are a monopolist yourself, come on in, the heated pools here in Florida make the water fine.

Resisting Fear or the Pressure – Publicly

Over the course of several years, there were allegations of this or that person tied to MHI pressured a firm or person into not advertising here, even though they had good results while they did. More recently, an apparent MHI surrogate has asked readers like you to cover your eyes to the truth. Why?  What does that person, or that organization have to hide?

As recently as a week ago, we gave MHI and their top names the opportunity to correct or respond publicly to our reports.  Their reply? Silence.  Maybe they plan on taking the 5th when their time comes?

Fearful? Feel intimidated? Why? They are silent in the face of the evidence. Like roaches with the light turned on, they are looking for cover.

We believe in giving credit where due, that metaphor came from a high-level industry reader who is in MHI, and says they are sick of what’s happening to our once great industry.  That pro and others do what they can.

Why not look at the example of Legacy? While others were self-admittedly fearful, Legacy went to where the largest and most engaged audience in MHVille is – right here on MHProNews.  See more on that, linked below.

Many of these quotes are from MHI insiders.

Peeling Away at the Onion

The more we peel away at the layers of the onion, the more evident the patterns of corruption and manipulation appear to be.

These deliberate actions and inactions have arguably cost honest women and men – collectively – billions of dollars annually.  That’s the logic of the math of one Jeff Bezos’ Amazon Alexa Fund.  If the Alexa Fund says that factory-built housing could be a large part of a $330 billion dollar a year market, you do the math.  In 2017, the industry finished with an estimated $6.5 billion in new retail sales. Divide 6.5 into 330 and see what you get.

DearTonySoheylaNoGreaterResourceSpeakstoIssuesOpportunitiesWeFaceAsIndependentRetailersGusRodriguezTejasHomesTX

Gus’ message came in response to a series of exposes on issues within manufactured housing, as well as tips, strategies and opportunities.

While that’s an imprecise way of calculating how much larger your firm’s sales could be, it sheds third-party light on the topic.  It explains why the consolidators want to squeeze as much market share as they can, before they take the foot off the break pedal.  If they win, you lose.  If they win, watch the day that the foot comes off of that break.  Because we believe manufactured homes could soar to over 1,000,000 shipments a year, in fairly short order.

FootOnBrakePedalManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

By artificially keeping manufactured housing smaller that it should be, through the types of direct and indirect actions we’ve been documenting and reporting in recent years, a few large firms are slowly “consolidating” – monopolizing – this once great industry. It’s happening in other industries too.  But as the report from the Atlantic below reminds readers, it is arguably more visible and pronounced in MHVille.

BarryColeMHInsuranceRVMHHallofFameCongratsManufacturedHomeIndustryMHProNews

Note, Barry Cole’s prior anniversary kudos message raises important points.

Recently, an industry pro that this writer had a ‘misunderstanding’ with cleared things up.  That person said he ‘now sees what you guys [MHProNews] are doing.’ We all need some patience with each other, as none of us are perfect – admittedly starting right here. But as Tim Williams and others have noted, once someone points out an error in fact, reason – or typing – we are happy to correct it.  It was patient input from others over the course of years that made us finally see what’s happening in MHVille.  My sincere thanks to those who did.

IfMHProNewsIswritingAboutItIWantToKnowAboutItQuote

The truth can be painful. Perhaps there are times when it may seem merciful to spare someone some piece of information. But unless the truth is known, how can wrongs be corrected?

Accountability is a hallmark of a good business or professional.  Mistakes should be corrected.

Corruption should be rooted out.

Children, Grandchildren, Family, Manufactured Housing, Money, and You

December 16th, 2018 Comments off

ChildrenGrandchildrenFamilyManufacuredHousingMoneyYouDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

Many if not most Manufactured Housing Professionals – MHPros – know the truth about our industry’s products and services. That said, millions of people don’t know.  You might say that they have been conditioned into thinking something that is untrue. Hold that thought, because in many ways it is a key to unlocking the future profit potential for your business and location(s).

For longtime readers, recall, that a manufactured housing professional – an informed MHI member – is the one who suggested that we research and report on Operation Mockingbird. Google it, we did, and then we did the report at the link below.  Family Jewels was a term used in a declassified CIA document about a once-secret operation, Operation Mockingbird.

.

“Family Jewels,” MHVille Insider Tips, “Info Wars” and Omaha, Knoxville, California, Seattle and Arlington, and DC Connections

A manufactured home professional also wrote to say, “I am ready for infowars.” Hold that thought too, because unlocking that is also a way to unlock the potential for your business, products, or services.

It is axiomatic that normal people love their children and grandchildren. As with all rules about humanity, there are exceptions. Exceptions – properly understood – often can be used to prove the rule.

The most basic social unit is that of the family. “Social engineers” have been trying to redefine the family for decades, and to some degree, one must admit, that has worked. Teams and businesses have used the phrase “we are family” for some time. The performers The Sisters Sledge in 1980 cut the hot tune – “We Are Family.” Dated now, it was red-hot then.

A hit song gets played over and over – repetition.

Repetition is either good or bad depending on the subject matter.

Repeat the good over and over, and it sinks in. Repeat the bad over and over, and sadly, that sinks in too.

If someone kept repeating something harmful to your child or grandchild, in time, they could come to believe it.  Depending on the subject, certain harmful beliefs could result in injury or death.

Poison often has an antidote, a medication used to counter the effects of the poison.

The antidote to poisoned information is the truth properly told, and told often enough. That’s infowars in a nutshell. That’s why fact checks and analysis are so important. We do those fact checks and follow the money here.

Call it what you will, but the severe divisions in America are a wake-up call. It is self-evident to thinking, informed business leaders that manufactured homes are misunderstood. It is also logically true that other falsehoods and misinformation are occurring.

Want to unlock greater potential profits? Understanding and then communicating to others the truth is an essential part of that process.

PEPProtectEducatePromoteUnlockingMindsKeyToAdvancementMHProNews

We created the graphic above years ago, because we understood in a broad sense what was necessary, and how to do it. What we didn’t fully grasp was how the biggest association and the biggest companies in our industry were arguably part of the problem, not part of the solution. But thanks to tips from various informed readers, now we have got it.

While he misused the term, mobile home, Frank’s point below was arguably spot on.

You aren’t getting that clarity of reasoning above from the Arlington, VA based Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI). That clear thinking isn’t coming from Clayton Homes or any other mega-firm in our industry. Why not?

You are getting it here on MHProNews. Which is why you and thousands of others have or will log on today.

Once weekly, we present the headlines for the reports published from the week that was. We curate – hand pick with intent and deliberation – each report we give you. In our industry, we are the runaway #1 as a result of readers like you, our sources, clients, and sponsors that collectively make this site possible.

If MHProNews is writing about it, I want to know about it,” said a company leader as part of a longer message to us.

As that tipster above wisely said it – for better or worse – we are in an era of infowars. Fake news has to be understood. Which is why we have, among the topics from the week that was, a Daily Business News report on fake news, and how to spot it. That features a short video by a mainstream media expert and award-winning journalist, who is now free from her mega-company.

Help us, help you, help your team. For the sake of your children and grandchildren. This is bigger than our industry, but logically – if you focus on getting the truth out about our industry – that’s an important start.

Here, thinkers like you are not alone. In our avoidably modest-sized industry today, north of 10,000 average logged on daily in recent months, per third-party metrics. For our boutique industry, that 10,000 average daily readers is incredible market penetration.

But it is also reflective of the fact that researchers about manufactured housing – who are often investors – are here day by day too.

The two most common words we get from readers, are “thank you,” and we in turn thank you – our readers, sources, clients and sponsors. Together, we advance.

Clayton Homes and 21st Mortgage’s Manufactured Housing “Spies”

September 7th, 2018 Comments off

ClaytonHomesLogo21stMortgageCorpLogoManufacturedHomesLoansLendingFinanceRepSpyingDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

It’s [a] standard operating procedure...”
–        Clayton representative, to the Daily Business News on MHProNews.

TimWilliams21stMortgageCEOMHProNews

Tim Williams, photo credit, MHProNews.com

At 21st Mortgage, we have access to a wide variety of resources that the independent business or professional in MH may lack.”
Tim Williams,
President and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway owned
21st Mortgage Corp., to MHProNews

It’s another example of the truth that is often hiding in plain sight.

Clayton Homes and 21st Mortgage Corp each have numerous field and other representatives. These men and women often see and hear things that are useful to Clayton, 21st, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance (VMF), or other parts of the Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate. They don’t carry the title of ‘spy.’

But the word “spying” is what an insider used to described part of their duties.  Another said, they wouldn’t be comfortable with the terms “spy” or spying,” but admitted that “reps” are in fact gathering information that’s reported and collected by management. As one Clayton rep put it, “It’s [a] standard operating procedure…”

A look at a dictionary definition of spy is revealing. The underscoring is added, but here is what the Oxford Dictionary says: “spy – a person employed by a government or other organization to secretly obtain information on an enemy or competitor.”

SpySpyingDefinitionGoogleClaytonHomes21stMortgageManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews600

This reporting work isn’t necessarily ‘top secret,’ as these representatives from 21st and Clayton periodically walk into sales centers or community offices as who they are.  That happens at locations across the country.

But there are also cases, per sources, where individuals are “rewarded” by the Berkshire manufactured housing brands to go and visit competitors under cover, pretending to be someone that they are not.

All of it has a similar goal. It’s to gain information on competitors, which Clayton, 21st and others they work with then use for their own corporate benefit.  That begs questions like these:

  • Do those who allow CMH or 21st reps onto their sales lots or into their offices realize that information they collect is allegedly being collected and reported up the chain of command, in ways that may be used against an independent’s business interests?
  • Do communities and retailers realize that files are reportedly being created, updated, and maintained, per sources within those Berkshire organizations?

Those are the case, per insider and informed sources to MHProNews.

The Motivation? “Competitive Advantages”

Corporate espionage is probably not what you think of when you hear the word spy. It’s not Sean Connery with his debonair manner, nor is it Tom Cruise hanging from suspension cable;” said Investopedia. Rather, its information being gathered – including online, though freedom of information requests, through reps and/or by other means – all of which can be legal.

Knowing a competitors next product line, bid price or any other sensitive data can give a rival company a competitive advantage,” said Investopedia.

MH Associations, CMH and 21st

Sources also tell MHProNews that associations are also “fertile ground” for collecting information on people, and businesses for Berkshire Hathaway brands in manufactured housing.

Here’s an example that was used, as to how innocently it can happen.  “What do you know about…” a certain person or business, comes an innocuous sounding question at a meeting or by phone.

Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) or state association executives and/or staff will routinely answer questions by the ‘big boys,’ say sources familiar with the practice.  They don’t think of themselves as “spies” for Clayton or 21st, but they will do and say things because of the how ‘gold rules.’

All of it is gathered and distilled into reports used for competitive insights, and thus advantages in the marketplace.  Some information is purchased from third parties, which can all be done legally.

It’s [a] standard operating procedure,” per a Clayton source, “and it’s been done for years.”

Files on competitors are maintained.  It can be accessed by management as they wish. The people involved may never think of themselves as spying, or as a spy.  But they report their findings to superiors just the same.

Information is power, just as capital or financing are power in business too.

Until positive changes are made by the powers that be, these sorts of issues, plus those in related reports (found further before), are all worth pondering before:

–        More business is placed by independents with a corporate giant,

–        before an association renewal check is sent,

–        or relaxed answers are made to reps, or at a meeting to a smiling face that reports what you said to others.

Factoid. If you look at the home page of MHProNews on Sunday Morning, it will look like what you see on this tablet screen shot, above.

Meshuggeneh

We were checking out at Walmart last night after dinner.  The woman who was ringing up our order was lightly conversing with my husband and family.  She was commenting on something the previous lady in line had said before leaving with her new goodies.  The lady at the register said to us, “What would my rabbi think about that?”  Without missing a beat, Tony said, “He’d likely think it would be Meshuggeneh.”

The woman looked with surprised delight, but apparently made the quick judgement that we were not Jewish.  “Yes, you’re right.  But how do you know what that means?”  “Because we have a number of Jewish friends and colleagues,” Tony replied, and in moments he and our son Tamas were both singing a few lines from Fiddler on the Roof to that woman’s amazement and joy.

The word “Meshuggah” is defined by the Free Dictionary like this: “Adj. 1. meshugga – senseless; crazy. meshuga, meshugge, meshuggeneh, meshuggener. Yiddish – a dialect of High German including some Hebrew and other words; spoken in Europe as a vernacular by many Jews; written in the Hebrew script.”  It’s use was perfectly suited for the occasion, and the exchanged clearly lifted the spirits of that woman — who doesn’t know us, and we did not know her save for those few minutes at a register.

There are times when the right words – including lyrical words – can bring joy, inspiration, comfort, or insight to others. Words can harm, and words can heal.

As trade publishers, it is never our intent to harm another, quite the opposite is true.

Journalism and trade journalism are relatives, but they are not precisely the same thing.

There is journalism for a cause, so-called agenda journalism.  Many in media try their hands at that, and to a degree, in as much as we advocate for this or that as a means of advancing manufactured housing in an editorial way, it would be fair to say that MHProNews and MHLivingNews have an agenda too. Every genuine trade media is a kind of de facto advocate for their respective cause or industry.

Ours agenda is out in the open. We want to see manufactured housing advance. Everything else, as my spouse might say, are details and commentary. During an affordable housing crisis, when the industry has done as much as 5 to 6 times higher levels of new manufactured home sales in the past, why isn’t the industry doing much better today?

Day by day, article by article, we strive to provide insights that address those kinds of opportunities and concerns.

Life can take surprising turns.

Neither Tony nor I imagined at the start of our studies and early careers that the course on our lives would bring us into manufactured housing.

My training was in medicine, and I’d been certified here in the U.S., and in a European nation, and my motherland too. Tony began his years of college studies in history, with a journalism scholarship, and a minor in business. As a medical scientist, I strive to look at things clinically. Tony uses decades of hands-on industry involvement in retail, communities, with lenders and producers, all aided by the lens of his education and other life experiences.

We naturally influence each other, as we aim to inform (and be informed by) you and the thousands of industry professionals, investors, and researchers who will check in today to read this among the total of 6.7 pages they will read on average before they go.

DisneySpringsTamasKovachPoliceSheriffsFirstRespondersDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

A child with serious medical conditions will altar your life’s paths. But what a joy it is to embrace life, including the challenges that life will always bring.  As thousands in MHVille know, Tamas travels with us to trade shows and other industry events.

Depending on the time of year, and what’s going on in the industry, page views per reader can go as high as 9 per visit.

But even our most recent third-party data demonstrates that our readers are twice as engaged as the average mainstream media news site (by comparison, mainstream news gets about 3.3 page views per reader). Wow, we have double the engagement – or more – than mainstream news readers get. Our sincere thank you to all who make that possible.

Webalizer and Alexa are among the sources of our traffic insights, and third-party data tells us that no other trade publication even comes close to us in the manufactured housing trade media field. Again, thank you. By the way, it was a challenge from George Allen who suggested that we generate this third-party data report.  We listen to a wide range of readers, and often respond to, readers comments, though not always instantly.

There are a handful of bigger websites than ours in what Tony likes to fondly call MHVille or HUDVille. But no one even comes close in MH trade media websites, or apparently in published MH media too.  These are facts. No one else in MH media even bothers to share their trade site or readership data. NOTE: It’s not how many of what you print, it is what gets read that counts.

That’s one of several ways that third-party data comes in handy.

Why are we successful, and have a MH Professional audience as wide and deep as we do?

Fair questions.

First, we provide professional services to the industry, so we aren’t sitting in some ivory tower. We know factory-crafted homes from the ground up. Tony began award-winning, record-setting work in MH retail in the 1980s.  He later shifted to working with lenders on remarketing, and then with land-lease MH Communities (MHC) and producers.  In the industry’s trade media, it’s unlikely that anyone in MH history has interviewed more people than we have: actual manufactured home owners, numerous industry professionals, experts, and others who touch or connect with manufactured and modular home building.

Next, we curate topics that ought to have meaning for you, industry professionals, investors, policy advocates, and other kinds of researchers.  Thus, it should be no surprise when a number of articles here get over ten thousand hits or more in their first month online on MHProNews. Millions of page-views in a year can yield the kind of statistics that generated the following factoid.

The industry needs inspiration as well as fair warnings, and de facto morality tales. We are guided day-by-day with input from industry readers from across the range of businesses of all sizes.  The Daily Business News gathers input from a variety of sources, including:

  • insights and interactions with members and staffs of trade associations,
  • the federal government,
  • state or local officials,
  • mainstream media,
  • experts in various fields, and much more.

Yes, we have typos, as detractors like to note, but we also bring the industry’s most read, most discussed, and hardest-hitting articles. Tony says, “chaff and wheat.”  Keep the good grain, please pardon any keystroke or autocorrection-caused glitch.  Please pardon as needed, and keep in mind that for me, English is my third language.  Keep in mind too that we are doing more articles than all others combined between doing other services for various members of the industry.

We’re not aiming for the politically correct. We call it as we see it, but not for the sake of mere clickbait.

We are willing to expose what is necessary – the underlying factors that are holding our great industry back from achieving its potential for solving the massive, and growing affordable housing crisis.

We are willing to name-names, and point fingers, when there is evidence to make a claim.

We are evidence- and principle-based writers, with analysis informed by decades of hands-on experience in manufactured housing.

We’re mindful that every article gets read by thousands, many of whom will make decisions about manufactured housing related issues.

When third-party researchers, the federal government, others in mainstream media read, cite or quote our work, that all says something.  When certain voices in MHVille attack us (usually, quietly), that says something too. When the naysayers won’t debate publicly, that definitely tells you something’s amiss.  If they thought the facts were on their side, why not discuss them publicly?

Doing anything less than giving you actionable insights based upon reality – when during this U.S. affordable housing crisis our potential as an industry could be 5 to 10 times more business  – could debatably be called Meshuggeneh.

If you want to sign up for our industry leading headline news, delivered twice weekly, you can sign up in seconds at this link here or after the end of this article.

Sunday Morning Weekly Recap – Manufactured Housing Industry Headline News 4.22.2018 to 4.29.2018

April 29th, 2018 Comments off

SundayMorningManufacturedHousingIndustryHeadlineNewsWeeklyRecap4-22-2018To4-29-2018

America is going through a time of upheaval. That’s not news, that’s reality.

When rapper Kanye West is making headlines for saying that its time for Blacks to get off the Democratic plantation, that’s a signal for just how turbulent the 2018 midterm elections could be.

Don’t count on a normal midterm cycle.  It’s a jump ball. Which major political party wants it the most, and is willing to work for the votes?

There’s a rising economy, but big time political shenanigans. Still, the landscape is potentially favorable to a manufactured housing comeback.

In MHVille, HUD Secretary Ben Carson has made the news several times this week, as has the U.S. Supreme Court, which will hear an MH related case.

CPFB, MHARR, and MHI are all in the news too.

A new production center is underway, and it’s going to be forged by and for independent retailers.

Another celebrity and her “mobile home mansion” [sic} is a headline on lifestyle and living focused MHLivingNews.

And a brave totter driver pulling a true mobile home in a tough spot on video are all among the headlines in the week that was.  Check ‘em ALL out…

…and then, last but not least.  The national news that impacts us all, in or out of manufactured housing.  The president’s approval numbers are rising.  Perhaps its because the economy has been steadily improving?  Or the various promises kept, with work being done on more?

Since the GOP Convention, the 45th president has had overwhelmingly bad press.  Love him, fear his agenda, or anything else along the spectrum, Donald J. Trump is as much our president as the 44 Chief Executives before him, going back to George Washington.  It’s worth listening to what he has to say about himself, his agenda, unfiltered. This video is from last night’s rally, courtesy of ABC News.

Now, let’s dive into industry news for the week that was.

Why is there so much struggle to “control the narrative” in media, politics, business, etc.?  It could be summed up in the two quotes above.

Michigan Manufactured Housing Association Announces Changes

March 31st, 2017 Comments off

Credit: MMHA.

The Michigan Manufactured Housing Association (MMHA) tells MHProNews that it is renaming the organization’s nonprofit foundation as The Tim DeWitt HARVEST Education Foundation, in tribute to his nearly four decades of service to the organization.

Dewitt originally founded the HARVEST Education Foundation in 1995, and to date the organization has awarded $304,575 in financial scholarships to 569 students, some of whom are interested in pursuing a career in the manufactured or modular housing industries, recreational vehicle or campground industries and the self-storage industry.

Renaming the scholarship was the least we could do to honor the leadership and dedication Tim DeWitt gave the organization over the past 39 years,” said Bill Sheffer, executive director of MMH/RVCA and the Self-Storage Association of Michigan.

As a result of Tim’s vision and passion, he has ignited interest in the business to a new generation.

Tim DeWitt. Credit: RV Business.

DeWitt also spearheaded a HARVEST fundraising effort in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Detroit Camper & RV Show in 2016, which raised nearly $50,000.

The generosity of our members is wonderful,” said DeWitt. “Their donations are spearheading the growth and development of the RV, manufactured and modular home and self-storage industries.

DeWitt began at MARVAC in 1977, and became executive director in 1984. Bill Sheffer, who has been with MARVAC since 1995, succeeded DeWitt on July 1, 2016.

The Ohio Manufactured Homes Association (OMHA) tells MHProNews that the Ohio General Assembly House of Representatives Finance Committee is currently reviewing proposed language in House Bill 49.

The bill proposes to abolish the Ohio Manufactured Homes Commission, delivering a potentially devastating setback to the industry in the state.

If the Commission is abolished, the Ohio Department of Commerce would regulate the industry in the state, resulting in bureaucratic delays, according to the OMHA .

The organization is asking for help from those in the state of Ohio, by calling and emailing state representatives and urging them to contact members of the House Finance Committee.

OMHA has set up links for ease of use in making contact and spreading the word.

You can have an email letter sent on your behalf here, or you can go here and enter your zip code to get contact information for representatives in your area to call.

A script that can be utilized is linked here.

As Daily Business News readers already know, the Ohio Manufactured Homes Association (OMHA) is a not for profit organization whose strategic vision strives to make manufactured housing a standard way of life in Ohio.
