The markets have been sliding in recent days. But why? The fundamentals of the economy and most companies on the exchanges are good.


If you are over 35, and think back, you’ve seen this rodeo market-madness before. A few people already have – or soon will – benefit from this so-called “market correction.”  Those blanks can be filled in later.

A man guns down worshipers in a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. Why? That isn’t relative, it isn’t a matter of opinion. It tragically happened last weekend. One can flashback to a madman walking into a church in South Carolina, or another who did something sadly similar in Texas. The common point for all three is that the shooters justified their own misguided behavior.

A woman, man, or child is diagnosed with an illness. It’s real, that illness isn’t an matter of opinion. Be it temporary or incurable, changes occur in someone’s life, perhaps the lives of several people.

Medicine exists because of science. Medicine and science are predicated on the understanding that reality can be known. Houses stand – or fall – due to science. Manufactured homes are built based upon principles of engineering. One can recognize the behavior of a ‘madman,’ because there is at some level a deeper knowledge of ‘what is right and what is wrong.’

When people lament the lack of civil discourse in politics, part of the challenge is that two world-views are clashing. Are there absolute truths? Or is all truth ‘relative?’

The notion of relativism is a sad fallacy, and the examples above disprove the fundamental underpinnings of relativism. The markets have fallen. People lost money. People died in those places of worship. It would be delusional to think otherwise. Truth is what is real.

The video on relativism below isn’t perfect, but it is useful. It uses stark examples to shake people into realizing that there is a moral right and wrong. That moral truth comes from a Creator of all things. Millions have watched it, and it’s well rated.




The universe exists. Why? What existed before the universe? There is a simple principle found in science, mathematics or philosophy. Here it is. “From nothing, nothing comes.”

There is cause and effect. Nothing comes from nothing. You don’t ask a fireplace for heat, until you first put in wood, kindling, and light the flammable material to start fire. You don’t write a check for more money than is in your bank account, or your overdraft limit. From nothing, nothing comes.

The universe exists because an all-powerful Cause brought it into existence. That First Cause established a moral universe. People are free to choose between right and wrong.  But there are clear consequences to choosing what is wrong. America’s founders weren’t perfect, but they understood this principle very well. They understood too that a just society had to be founded on a lived faith that inspires morality.

Reality is what is. Right and wrong are real. Right and wrong are not ‘relative.’ Personal taste is relative – for example, you like this food but not that one. But there are absolute right and wrong. Ideally, the concepts of right and wrong are what laws are based upon. Then good laws should be justly enforced.

We may learn in time that the so-called market correction we’ve seen in recent days is perhaps an ‘October surprise.’ The strongest argument for the 45th president and his party is a strong economy. Shaking that belief in a sound economy, some voters still on the fence could decide to vote Democratic instead of Republican. Keep in mind that this writer is a political independent, but a pragmatic one.

If it sounds sinister to think that markets can be manipulated, haven’t those over the age of 35 lived through some things that are similar before?  For example, the causes of the crash of 2008 were not mysterious.  They were known to several, but not all, in advance. Those who knew and kept on going weren’t stopped by those who warned against it.  How where the guilty punished?  Yet, trillions in assets were lost by millions, and they were later regained by others. That is a matter of history only a decade ago, and we better learn from it.

You don’t normally blame the victim of a crime. You look for the criminal instead. One doesn’t blame the ill patient. Rather, you look for the cause of the illness, and with the patient’s cooperation, determine the cause and best treatment options. America is infected by several false notions.  Only steady doses of the truth – of reality – will set more people free.

Moral relativism isn’t the only problem that faces America, along with much of the world. But moral relativism is a real problem. The solution?  It is better to light one candle – by sharing an article and video like this he – than it is to curse the darkness.  It is better to enlighten some, than to do nothing.

We’ve reported for some time how manufactured housing is a victim, to a certain degree, of manipulation of people’s perceptions of reality. Realty and truth matter.

Manufactured housing is also a victim of a manipulation of forces beyond the means of most everyone in this industry to impact. That is why ‘causes and effects’ must be understood in the light of fact-checks. Then, based upon reason, prudent planning and action can occur.

About one week from today, the masters of most U.S. media, the major players in tech, the internet, and the richest people in America will find out – along with the rest of us – the result of most races in the House and Senate. Fear is being used to motivate the voters of both major parties. But common sense is being called for consistently by one political leader, and that would be the outsider that successfully challenged the political math of Washington, D.C. in 2016. That same leader has been tirelessly working to reset and improve the economic course of the nation, from years of a ‘rigged system’ madness.

One man is leading the charge to bring back to the USA once lost jobs, lost businesses, and once lost industries.  He’s succeeded at doing what his predecessor said could not be done. Given years of dirt thrown his way, the accomplishments are astonishing.

Millions of ballots have already been cast for the 2018 midterms. In several states, early voting as measured by party registrations has favored the GOP.  That’s a fact that sadly is being under-reported.  But we hunt for facts like that, and share them so that the illusions some paint don’t become reality.

The outcome of the election isn’t certain. Both major parties are giving it their all. For example, Netflix gave former President Barack Obama a huge contract. The former president is now out campaigning for Democrats, including Andrew Gillum, who openly says he is a socialist. Socialism doesn’t work, but one party is asking Americans to believe what is proven not to be true. This too is about absolute truths, and the struggle over relativism.  Note that Netflix, part of FAANG – is one of those monopolistic brands that could be facing antitrust action in 2019.

Is it a coincidence that Netflix hired former President Obama, who is now campaigning against President Donald J. Trump’s agenda?  Follow the agendas, follow the money, follow your common sense.

Because lies told well can cause people to want to believe what isn’t true.  Before ObamaCare ever went into effect, Thomas Sowell used common sense to explain why it wouldn’t work.  Truth is black and white, but when it comes to who speaks the truth or deception– that can come from people of any background.

There is a need for America to return to objective reality. There is a need to reject moral relativism, and to reject the manipulative methods of a few who strain for socialism or crony capitalism over free markets. There is a need to reject the methods of those who dominate tech, and most media. One must reject the manipulations of the uber rich’s power over markets, because logically only a few are capable of manipulating the markets in the ways that are being witnessed in the past week.

That’s the principle of Occam’s Razor.


That the clarity of reason. Occam’s Razor explains that the most likely explanation is usually the correct one.




But to buy into reason, one must believe in absolute truth. That means one must buy into objective reality, and objective morality – that it is wrong to manipulate markets, money, and minds – and for that, one must believe in our God-given common sense.

With objective reality, the truth of manufactured homes potential to ease the affordable housing crisis may break through. Absent objective reason and morality, that truth can be obscured.

Investors: D.R. Horton, Inc., America’s Builder, has been the largest homebuilder by volume in the United States for thirteen consecutive years,” says the publicly-traded company’s website.

Horton sells more than half the total number of housing units annually sold by the entire manufactured housing industry, and obviously at a far higher average price-point.

A report in Oct 2017, said their sales total in 2016 was $12.3 billion in revenues.

That’s more than double the retail sales total for all of the HUD Code manufactured homes sold in 2017 by the manufactured housing (MH) industry. The latest MH data can be reviewed later, at the link below.

Why does any of this matter to MHVille?

Fair question, let’s look.


The Site Built Housing Industry Reality Check  #1

ABC News did the following exposé of the host of problems found in the conventional housing industry.

This isn’t new, there are numerous other similar reports.  Check out this short one by a local news report.


These are similar to the kinds of problems that caused the old pre-HUD Code mobile home industry’s leaders to turn to the federal government and ask for federal standards.  Problematic pre-HUD Code mobile home builders in the early 1970s caused the builders of better homes NOT to want to be branded by those with a poor image.

The ‘quality crisis’ of the late 1960s and early 1970s led to exposés by CBS’ 60 Minutes and others.  That threatened the credibility of the then-booming mobile home business.  Are site builders heading toward a similar crisis? And will manufactured home producers, marketers and sellers be able to tap into those concerns?


What was accomplished previously in sustainable shipment levels, can clearly be done again.

D.R. Horton is far from alone in facing such concerns among conventional, on-site builders.  There have been numerous websites over the years – example, – that spotlight these kinds of problems with other stick builders.

The point here isn’t to trash D. R. Horton, nor any other, conventional housing builders.

Rather, it is to make a few points similar to what the National Association of Home Builder (NAHB) official interviewed in the ABC News video above made.

Namely, that housing isn’t perfect.

No product is, and that includes manufactured homes.

So why is it that conventional housing is roaring, and manufactured home shipments are snoring?

Part of the beauty of manufactured homes is that there are third-party inspections. Those avoid many of the kinds of problems being identified by site builders, noted in the videos above.

HUD Code manufactured housing consumers can take comfort in that inspection process. Furthermore, the dispute resolution process that is part of the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000 (MHIA) gives consumers a level of confidence that is frankly not found in the conventional housing world.  The MHIA of 2000 is found in the article linked below, along with other information that can be read later for greater depth of understanding on a related topic.

Two Great Laws Already on the Books NOW,  Can Unlock Billion$ Annually for Manufactured Housing Industry Businesse$, Investor$

Unlike many conventional builders, manufactured home producers are all third-party inspected. And the review process – per HUD data reveals – so few consumer complaints that it should make all manufactured home sellers proud.

The article from MHLivingNews last year spotlighted the relatively few numbers of dispute resolution complaints on HUD Code homes.

Federal Data Spotlights Manufactured Home Industry Quality, Regulatory Questions

There are so many ways to make the points to consumers that today’s manufactured homes are a good investment.

It should be noted that Horton Homes, a manufactured housing company that was based in Georgia, was not connected with D.R. Horton.

Per References for Businesses, “…the publicly-owned D. R. Horton construction firm, based in Dallas, Texas, is an entirely different company…Horton [Homes] had played a part in improving the industry’s prestige, however. For years, jokes had persisted about manufactured housing–or rather trailers, sometimes nicknamed “tornado bait.” The homes had been considered to be shoddy, unattractive, substandard, and (in the case of a tornado or even of high winds) unsafe. Starting in the 1970s, however, that began to change. In June 1976, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) set new safety standards for mobile home construction. In the wake of hurricanes Hugo (1989) and Andrew (1992), HUD increased its requirements, declaring that manufactured homes should be able to withstand winds of 110 m.p.h. Horton [Industries] decided that his own product should meet even higher standards, and in 1997 the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that some Horton Homes could sustain winds of 135 m.p.h.”


As an interesting side-note, Texas-based Legacy Housing, Inc. states that it purchased Horton Industries manufactured housing production facilities in Eatonton, GA in a January 2016 statement.

The D. R. Horton Takeaways for Manufactured Housing?

There are numerous top-line takeaways for manufactured housing in the D. R. Horton story. The Daily Business News on MHProNews will point to only one this morning.  It’s this.  There is a need for all true leaders in the manufactured home industry to stand up and fight for the reputation of their industry.

D. R. Horton proves you can have significant issues, and still be wildly more successful than those in our industry are today. D. R. Horton’s quality concerns arguably dwarf those of manufactured housing. D.R. Horton aggressively markets their product.

If that is obviously so, then how is it that on something as apparently simple as the use of proper terminology about manufactured homes, the MH Industry can’t get the media to get that right?  How can it be that 42 years after the first HUD Code homes were built, that the industry’s big corporate leaders can’t get many in the media to use the correct nomenclature?

Follow the Money – 100s of Immigration Protests, MoveOn, George Soros, The Border, Mexico’s AMLO, and Manufactured Housing

The signs the protesters are carrying speak volumes, and ought to be troubling to professionals, investors and all other thinkers too.

The economy is moving again. Hundreds of billions in capital have already poured back into the U.S. during the first quarter of 2018. But it could all be turned upside down, depending on the outcomes of the 2018 midterms. And big, “dark money” is backing efforts that led to hundreds of weekend protests that could stymie the economic recovery, and upend the progress being made for manufactured housing and investors.


The political left, centrists, and the supporters of President Donald J. Trump are making the border and immigration key issues in the approaching 2018 midterms.

Manufactured housing industry professionals know that illegal immigrants are among those who buy HUD Code manufactured homes, or even pre-HUDCode mobile homes.  

Some companies have set up special lending for those who are undocumented.

Several manufactured home producers found out the hard way that illegal immigrants are subject to arrest and deportation. MHProNews reported exclusively on a wave of ICE raids last year that impacted mostly independent producers of manufactured housing.

So immigration is a vexing, controversy-ridden hot-button issue for the industry and the nation.  

But with some of the lowest unemployment rates in the U.S. since federal record-keeping, recent polling indicates that the popularity of President Trump, and his economic plan are winning over Hispanics, blacks, women, and more independents. 

The coalition that former President Barack Obama and other Democrats before him organized, is being eroded. The normal playbook that progressive leaning politicos use against conservatives and the GOP in general has not worked as well against Donald Trump as it has against several others before him.


Democrats and their Supporters Are Concerned 

Chuck Todd from left-of-center NBC, whose coverage is largely anti-Trump per third party sources, said on Sunday that the president is winning. But that doesn’t mean that the left is giving up. 

Those large rallies that reportedly drew hundreds of thousands nationally didn’t spontaneously organize themselves. That many people requires planning, and money.  

Who’s behind it? 

The Daily Business News will hereby pull back the veil, so that professionals and investors can see who are the groups behind the weekend protests curtain. Their own statements will tell an important tale.



Weekend Anti-Trump Immigration Rallies  

The main rally was held in Washington, D.C., but 628 sister rallies were planned for locations in all 50 states. 

“(The) family separation crisis is not over. We have a situation where the Trump administration seems to be aiming to detain families,” said Karthik Ganapathy, a spokesman, said per USA Today.

That took place even though on June 20, President Trump signed an executive order designed to stop family separations, which were a policy used to varying degrees by Presidents Bush and Obama too.

Beyond the president’s executive order, on June 26, a federal judge in California ordered immigration authorities on the border to reunite families within 30 days. So why did the rallies occur, when the predicated reason for it the are already being addressed? 


What is MoveOn, and Where Did Their Money Come From?

Whether it’s supporting a candidate, passing legislation, or changing our culture, MoveOn members are committed to an inclusive and progressive future.” So says the MoveOn website.  

Our rapid-response organizing and campaigning, communications interventions, digital innovation, rigorous data science and testing, and culture of grassroots participation have repeatedly combined to produce real-world impact, changing outcomes and making our country better,” according to MoveOn’s about us page. 

In their short history section, MoveOn boldly states, “Since the 2016 election, we have formed a pillar of the Resistance to Trump.”

MoveOn came out big, endorsing Barack Obama before Super Tuesday in an unprecedented primary endorsement member vote,” stated MoveOn’s highlights page as of this morning.

MoveOn is strategic, and think big from the left.

In 2006, they touted their “unprecedented” mobilization efforts. “MoveOn member volunteers made 7 million phone calls, organized 7,500 house parties, and launched 6,000 in-district events.”

MoveOn led a multi-prong effort to brand the GOP as beholden to corporate special interests,” their website brags. What is interesting about that is the fact that third-party research indicates that more big corporations and big foundations are Democratic or progressive in their political and social orientation.

A list of the anti-Trump rally supporting groups involved is the weekend rallies is attached to this report, based on the organizers’ own website, and is found at this link here.  Many are reminders of a progressive organization’s “who’s who.”  

In 2016, “MoveOn Political Action is in the midst of running an unprecedented campaign to draft Senator Elizabeth Warren into the presidential race.” Warren, is the left-wing firebrand that President Trump has dubbed “Pocahontas,” for her disputed claim for having Native American ancestry.

Warren was one of the driving forces behind Dodd-Frank, which former President Barack Obama championed.

Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett supported POTUS Obama’s and candidate Secretary Hillary Clinton’s position on Dodd-Frank and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).  The linked reports can be read later for greater insight. 

But interestingly, Warren has also come out against some of Warren Buffett’s positions, as MHProNews previously reported at this link here. Buffett supported Secretary Hillary Clinton in 2016.









Follow the Money

MoveOn was started in 1998, says FactCheck, as a defense of President Bill Clinton, who faced impeachment. Censure President Clinton and Move On to Pressing Issues Facing the Nation.”  

FactCheck is supported by the “Annenberg Public Policy Center,” and other sources.  

A major funder of MoveOn is billionaire George Soros, said FactCheck.

According to FactCheck, “Initial donors [to MoveOn] included billionaire George Soros, a major donor to liberal causes, who spent millions in 2004 trying unsuccessfully to defeat President Bush.” 

Soros has been slammed by the Hungarian government’s Prime Minister Viktor Mihály Orbán.  

Soros is a Hungarian by birth, and has supported open border policies in Europe as well as the United States. “Most recently, Soros has supported a liberal immigration policy in Europe as a response to the refugee crisis,” said the Atlantic in December of 2017. 

MoveOn’sPolitical leanings: Democratic/Liberal,” stated FactCheck.

Last year, CNN reported that Soros gave a stunning $18 billion dollars to fund organizations and causes he supports.

Per CNN, “…George Soros has moved $18 billion to his foundation — the majority of his estimated $24.6 billion fortune.”


Sunday’s Mexican Elections… 

Leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrado, is known by the acronym, AMLO. López has tried and failed twice before to capture México’s presidency, noted the Times of Israel.

Mexican presidential candidate and Bernie Sanders doppelganger Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) declared mass immigration to the United States a “human right@realDonaldTrump to be prescient yet again in assessing the illegal immigration issue,” said Thread Reader, just days before the 2018 election yesterday of AMLO as México’s next president. That source claims Soros and his Open Society have been among those backing AMLO.  

AMLO promised Mexicans to end corruption in their country, and double the Mexican minimum wage.

The Trump Administration is currently in the process of seeking to revamp the NAFTA trade agreement. The U.S. reportedly had a $71.1 billion in 2017, per the United States Trade Representative (

So with the election of AMLO, Mexico is apparently about to embrace policies that have tuned once more prosperous Venezuela into in a socialist basket-case economy in roughly a decade. Will the U.S. see even more border crossings in the days ahead, if the Mexican economy falters?

A 2009 Gallup poll found that 165 million globally would like to move to the United States. Those kinds of numbers would totally destabilize the U.S. and our economy.


While the humanitarian concerns are often rooted in a sincere desire to help those afflicted. But illegal immigration leads to human trafficking, rapes, avoidable deaths, and drugs smuggling into the U.S. the FAIR – the Federation for Immigration Reform, in data also cited by Wikipedia, said in Sept 2017 that “FAIR estimates the economic impact of illegal immigrants to be over $115 billion annually.” 

The president, whose own wife – First Lady Melania Trump – is an immigrant, has said repeatedly that he is for legal immigration, but is opposed to all of the woes caused by illegal immigration. MS13 and angel parents – those who have lost children to crimes committed by illegal immigrants – are frequently by the Trump Administration as reasons for his proposed $25 billion dollar border wall.


Stage Managing News to Manipulate?

Protests are routinely followed by local, regional, or national news. So when hundreds of thousands turn out, and paint the Trump Administration as evil anti-immigrant racists, it’s clearly an effort to mobilize voters, and to tug at emotional heart-strings. 

But is it working?

On June 22, UPI reported that More than half of American voters say parents are to blame when child migrants are separated from families illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a Rasmussen…”

Fundraising on the left and the right are pointing to the immigration issue. While anything can happen between now and the midterms, this is the front-and-center issue in the past few weeks.

Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”  

Lincoln, America’s 16th President, also said that America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – according to BrainyQuotes.

The “Oracle of Omaha” billionaire whose Berkshire Hathaway owns several manufactured housing (MH) brands, backed Barack Obama for the White House, twice.

Before looking at what that Warren Buffett support for Mr. Obama did for Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage, Vanderbilt Mortgage and other Berkshire MH brands, let’s peek at what Buffett’s backing of President Obama earned Berkshire in a venture outside of the MH field.


Truth Hiding in Plain Sight (THIPS) – Buffett, Clinton, Obama and “Political Payoffs”

There are some things that analogies or parallel examples can clarify.

So, before turning to the affordable manufactured home MH industry, this report will begin by looking at how Warren Buffett profitably leveraged political relationships – outside of manufactured housing.

Specifically, Buffett’s Berkshire’s acquisition of the railroad giant, Burlington Northern, Sante Fe (BNSF).

Mother Jones noted that Warren Buffett supported the political career of Barack Hussein Obama some years before he ran for the presidency.

Buffett backed Mr. Obama’s successful run for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois.  He later twice supported Obama’s run for the Oval Office.

As POTUS Obama’s Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s State Department duly dragged their feet for years on the Keystone XL pipeline deal.  The State Department had to authorize Keystone for it to proceed. As ThoughCo wrote last year,  “The Department of State did not issue a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline while Clinton served as secretary of State.”

When oil isn’t moved by pipelines on land, it is commonly shipped by rail or trucks.

And whatever is good for crude by rail, is good for railroads. Particularly those with a northern footprint, such as Burlington Northern Santa Fe. In 2010, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway acquired BNSF for $26.5 billion,” reported right-of-center Forbes.

The Congressional Research Service estimates that transporting crude oil by pipeline is cheaper than rail, about $5/barrel versus $10 to $15/barrel, per the left-of-center NYTimes.

Lower oil and energy prices are better for most businesses and consumers.  So why didn’t the arguably safer pipeline method prevail during the Obama years?

The data on transporting oil via various methods of delivery demonstrates that none of the methods are error-free.  They all come with risks – environmental, and in terms of worker-injuries.



The left-of-center Huffington Post reported in 2013, “Using data from the U.S. Department of Transportation between 2005 and 2009, the study found the rates of injury requiring hospitalization in the U.S. were 30 times lower among pipeline workers than rail workers involved in shipping oil.

For truck transport, the difference is even more stark, with an injury rate 37 times higher than oil transport by pipeline.

When it comes to spills, road transport fared the worst, with nearly 20 incidents per billion ton-miles. Rail had just over two incidents per billion ton miles while pipelines had less than 0.6 per billion tonne [sic] miles.

The report notes that pipelines tend to release more crude per spill than rail, but much of that is often recovered quickly.

With pipelines such as the controversial Keystone XL pipeline — which would connect Canadian crude to Texas refineries — in regulatory limbo, producers have been increasingly turning to rail to get their crude to market.

But concern over the safety of using that mode of transport has intensified since a runaway crude-laden train derailed in Lac- Megantic, Que., this summer, killing 47 people and destroying much of the downtown area,” per HuffPo in Canada.



Interesting Buffett quotes, but how have they played out in practice?  Credits are as shown.

So, the Obama Administration’s “no” on the job creating Keystone XL pipeline – statistically-safer, said WaPo than trucking or rail – could certainly be viewed as a policy gift to Warren Buffett/Berkshire Hathaway, among others.

While often talking about the “Buffett Rule” on tax policy, heavy regulations and then-current tax policies were harming smaller players, in favor of big donors, during the Obama Administration.

The Buffett rule never became law during the Obama years.  Rather, the Buffett Rule was a nice-sounding talking point, suitable for appeasing the growing numbers who don’t understand the distinctions between socialism and free markets.  It was a way of appealing to a growing left-leaning base, while still rewarding big money “Wall Street” type donors.  To rephrase, it was a head-fake to voters, while raking in money from billionaires and big business, like Buffett.


Warren Buffett, along with left-leaning George Soros and others, says the Chicago Tribune, are among the supporters for the Obama Foundation.

The foundation is raising money by the millions, from mostly politically left-leaning groups.  It should be noted that Soros-backed groups have been heavily involved in organizing anti-President Donald J. Trump protests, and the related anti-POTUS Trump “resistance.”

The economy is demonstrably turning from tame to tiger since Mr. Trump became the winner of the 2016 presidential race.  So, why would billionaires – such as Buffett or Soros – support anti-Trump efforts?  While some prominent billionaires on the left claim to care about the poor or ‘income inequality,’ the still new Trump-era is already economically benefiting minorities, workers, and all other economic groups.  So where is their beef?

Or is it because once you have plenty of money, political power is next?

Big brother governments are necessary for ‘crony capitalism.’  If Mr. Trump was the fascist that left-leaning protesters errantly claim, POTUS is showing it in odd ways.  Because by rolling back regulations, the president is reducing executive power, not increasing it.


What President Trump’s policies are doing is helping American wage growth, should help public safety, and should benefit small to mid-sized businesses to compete more evenly with corporate giants.  That’s why National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) and other business groups have supported it.

As the Daily Business News has previously reported, Democratic President John F. Kennedy and GOP President Ronald Reagan both cut taxes, and watched revenues briefly, dip, then soar as the economy took off both times.



Surely, a genius who enjoys history, as Buffett does, knew about those historic events and outcomes.  Then why even pay lip service to support policies that harm small business, and the middle class?

Buffett’s Crony Capitalism, Heavy Regulations, and Manufactured Housing

Crony capitalism isn’t new.

But how media, messaging, and narratives are forged today as powerful tools of influence can create an impression that is different than the reality.

As right-of center Townhall’s Guy Benson said, “propaganda works.”  Part of the essence of propaganda is repeating a message over and over, until that message is accepted as true, even if it may be a half-truth, or is an outright lie.

Buffett has, as fellow Democrat Maxine Waters said, cast himself as a folksy billionaire.  Buffett’s politics have clearly benefited from those he has backed. Words said one thing, realities meant another.



Lavin is an MHI award winner, and a success story in communities, retail, and finance.

In the matter of allegations of racism and steering, it is interesting to note that Charlie Munger, Buffett’s right-hand man at Berkshire Hathaway admitted in a generic way during an interview that there is a likelihood that someone has done something wrong in their manufactured housing units.

I have no doubt that somebody, somewhere that’s cheated some poor person,” Munger said in response to a question about the allegations against Clayton Homes and their related lending units, per the video from left-of-center, CNN Money.


The Buffett Way?

As the Daily Business News previously reported, applying Buffett’s words to his actions reveals an apparent pattern.

That pattern?

Using the power of the government, leveraged by political support, plus capital that gives his operations an advantage.

Combined with Buffett’s “the moat” principle – heavily underscored by Kevin Clayton in the video interview found at the link below –

  • heavy regulations,
  • control over financing and capital,

yields a powerful pattern that people across the political spectrum believe is monopolistic in nature, when it comes to manufactured housing.

Monopolies – also known as ‘trusts’ – are harmful to free enterprise, and that is why anti-trust (anti-monopoly) laws can come with both civil, and criminal penalties.



While MHI’s SVP Lesli Gooch has denied the charge, Doug Ryan at CFED, and long time MHI member, George Allen, are among those who’ve raised the issue of monopolistic practices by MHI.

It must be noted that Clayton said in this video interview that Buffett told him they have ‘plenty of money.’

Yet, Tim Williams of 21st Mortgage, in the two “smoking gun” letters previously reported on the Daily Business News, claimed that capital had to be restricted.

That restriction of Berkshire’s capital tilted clearly toward Clayton Homes.  See it on 21st letterhead, with Tim William’s signature at the bottom. What more do regulators or attorneys need?

Before the time that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) was dominated by Berkshire Hathaway, MHI pointed to Eric Belsky from Harvard, claiming manufactured homes would dominate over conventional housing.

Before Berkshire’s dominance, MHI was promoting mortgages over chattel lending.  What happened?

Kevin Clayton, in the video above, noted the affordable housing crisis right from the outset of his video.  But he also noted that Buffett would not mind losing money for even 5 years, so long as it would build their “moat.”

Clayton said Buffett told his corporate CEOs very few things, but among them, was to push “the moat,” and to use every competitive advantage they could to beat their competitors.

Seen in that light, the Manufactured Housing Institute – whose revenues and executive committee structure are both dominated by Clayton Homes/21st and related Buffett brands – isn’t it clearly acting in ways that are, as Mark Weiss, JD, President and CEO of MHARR recently put it, ‘a pure gift’ to Berkshire Hathaway?

By cutting off capital to lending that was available, as Kevin Clayton said in the video from that same time-frame, that action over-time forced hundreds of manufactured home independent companies to:

  • sell out for less,
  • close their doors,
  • or struggle for survival and dramatically reduced levels of competition.


That in turn put several manufacturers out of business, at the very time that Belsky projected that manufactured housing would overtake site built housing.

Big business is widely seen as more able to endure heavier regulations.

All of this points to a troubling pattern of MHI taking positions that were contrary to common sense, and/or contrary to the interests of the small- to mid-sized industry players.

GSE’s Duty to Serve MH Rigged, Benefits 21st, VMF, Clayton, Buffett’s Berkshire, Harming Consumers & Independents, per MH CEO, Calls for Congressional Investigation

Yet, each of these stances obliquely beneficial to Berkshire Hathaway, Clayton Homes and their lending and other divisions.

How so?

Because they tended to increase, or maintain, or failed to mitigate, heavy regulations which in turn harms smaller competitors.

What the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) reports could be applied to manufactured housing producers too.




A combination of problematic actions – perhaps in violation of anti-trust or other laws – can explain why MHI, as a tool of Berkshire Hathaway, has routinely failed to perform in ways that benefited the majority of manufactured home industry members. 

The big players, however, do benefit from MHI’s behavioral pattern, say sources, many from within MHI.

Isn’t that in keeping with Kevin Clayton calling Buffett a genius in the video?

Or in applying Buffett’s words about long-term strategic thinking, vs. short term thinking that has plagued the industry for years?


Warren Buffett supported Mr. Obama and then Ms. Clinton.

Both promised no changes to the CFPB.

Without a GOP super-majority, with those Democrats in power, it is clear in hindsight that the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act was a fool’s mission.

MHI’s own vice-president said that in his own words, in the report linked below.


MHI’s own VP said in an on-the-record statement that with Obama back in the White House, the MH Industry odds of passing Dodd-Frank reform was minimal. So why waste millions of dollars pursuing it? Is it because it benefited MHI’s major player, Berkshire Hathaway?

Prominent MHI member Frank Rolfe, and others inside and outside of MHI said similarly.  In Rolfe’s case, he did so, until his own ties to Berkshire Hathaway’s 21st Mortgage, et al could have led to his ‘self imposed’ silence since he torched MHI’s failures.

And just days before the tight 2016 election, MHI had not one, but two paid speakers who were pro-Clinton, even though her stated policies were inferior when compared to those of Donald Trump.

So why did Buffett back Clinton?  Wouldn’t Clinton’s election be like stopping Dodd-Frank reform, yet again?  Isn’t it now obvious that MHI has been duping hundreds of honorable, smaller companies to the advantage of a few bigger firms that could consolidate them?

The Truth Hiding in Plain Sight (THIPS)

While in a technical, legal sense there may be conspiratorial/anti-trust/RICO aspects to the Buffett/Berkshire Hathaway/Clayton Homes, et al actions, the bulk of the evidence is now hiding in plain sight.

Using Sam Zell’s ‘math,’ it was a combination of leveraging their capital/lending, with their considerable political influence.  Let regulations, and a lack of capital, force independents out of business.

It’s simple yet brilliant, just as Buffett himself – or Kevin Clayton said – in the linked reports and video.

MHProNews has offered numerous opportunities for MHI and Berkshire Hathaway brands to explain and/or defend these actions, if they could.  Silence, ducking, dodging, and other tactics have followed instead of a sensible explanation.

As important as tax, regulatory, and other reforms are to industry professionals, safety and security can’t be overlooked.

It’s in that context that we look at the thoughts previously shared by Dr. Sebastian Gorka with MHProNews, immediately after related news from the White House.

Make America Safer

In a recent release from the White House press room to MHProNews, President Donald J. Trump announced his nomination of Kirstjen Nielsen as Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS).

I share the President’s profound commitment to the security of our country and the safety of the American people,” Nielsen said. Truly, there is nothing more valuable than to feel safe and secure in your homeland.”

The White House press room also shared the president’s recent video.  That video reminds Americans of our independence, which ‘founding father’ George Washington’s defeat of the British is celebrated today.  Defending the God-given rights enshrined by the U.S. Constitution, is vital for a free society.

Any high concentration of unarmed civilians is an attractive target for terrorists,” Gorka replied to MHProNews.Terrorism is about generating fear in a population to coerce change.”

MHProNews also asked Dr. Gorka, “During the Crusader era, the then Christian West responded both militarily and with an effort to convert Muslims.  Why do we hear so little discussion of that religious component today and do you think that might be useful now as then?”

The religious aspects of the current threat environment have been assiduously white-washed,” Dr. Gorka said in his emailed comments to MHProNews.  He cited prior administrations, saying, “and this began under the Bush administration so it is a bipartisan problem.”

During the Obama Administration, Gorka told MHProNews that, “U.S. counterterrorism [was] based upon a fallacious theory that poverty and lack of education lead to extremist violence.”

Of course, if that were true [then] half of India, or China would be terrorists. But they’re not,” the author of Defeating Jihad said.


It is worth noting that in recent months, the Trump administration changes in military tactics has resulted in a series of reversals for ISIS, the latest being the fall of their ‘capital’ in Raqqa.

Also during the Obama administration, Gorka told MHProNews that, “For political reasons, the policymakers refuse to recognize the religious ideology that drives global jihadist groups like Al Qaeda or the Islamic State. 

As long as that is the case, we will not defeat the current threat to the Republic,” Dr. Gorka concluded.

While he left the Trump administration, like Breitbart’s Chairman Steve Bannon has, Gorka is deeply involved in promoting the “Make America Great Again” agenda.

White House Shake Up, President Trump’s Made in America Plan, and Manufactured Housing

My fellow Americans,
On Monday, I signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring this to be “Made in America Week.”
We believe that our country is stronger, safer, and more prosperous when we make more of our goods and our products right here in the USA.  When we purchase products Made in America, the wealth, revenue and jobs all stay in our country – to be enjoyed by our people.
Since we first won our Independence, our Founders and many of our greatest leaders have promoted that we should afford a special level of protection to the products and goods manufactured within our borders.  They understood that as a nation, we have common bonds with our fellow citizens and common obligations to each other.  Making and buying made in America products brings us closer, and strengthens the ties that link us all together.
For too long, our government’s policies have punished production in America while rewarding and encouraging the movement of production overseas, which is totally ridiculous.  The result has been the loss of numerous industries, the decimation of entire communities, and years of sluggish growth and flat wages.
Throughout American history, our nation’s best leaders have believed in the importance of protecting our domestic industry.  This includes every President on Mount Rushmore.
George Washington encouraged Americans to produce their own goods so that our young nation could become truly independent.
Thomas Jefferson wrote that Americans should choose products made in America whenever possible – and by the way, I’m asking you to do that.
Abraham Lincoln warned that abandoning the policies that protect American industry would “produce want and ruin among our people.”
Theodore Roosevelt stated in his First message to Congress that “Reciprocity must be treated as the handmaiden of protection.”
James Monroe called on our nation to “cherish and sustain our manufacturers.”
James Garfield said of our nation’s manufacturers: “To them the country owes the splendor of the position it holds before the world.”  
William McKinley believed that when America protects our workers and industries, we “open up a higher and better destiny for our people.”
And Calvin Coolidge stated that protecting American industry “enables our people to live according to a better standard… and receive a better rate of compensation than any people, anytime, anywhere on earth, ever enjoyed.”
We are now, under the Trump Administration, reclaiming our heritage as a manufacturing nation.  We are fighting to provide a level playing field for American Workers and Industries.  Other countries will cease taking advantage of us, believe me.
We are going to build works of beauty and wonder – with American hands, American grit, and American iron, aluminum, and steel.
No longer will we allow other countries to break the rules, steal our jobs, and drain our wealth.  Instead, we will follow two simple but very crucial rules: We will buy American and we will hire American.
Already, we have created over a million new jobs this year – and doing even better than anticipated.  We are just getting started – believe me, we are just getting started.
For every job that comes back to this country, and every factory that reopens, and every town that is revitalized, we aren’t just restoring American wealth, we are restoring American pride.  We are restoring America’s future – a future where millions will be lifted from welfare to work, where children will grow up in safe and vibrant communities, and where our nation will stand stronger than ever before.
And most importantly, it will be a future in which you – our citizens – always come first.

MHARR leaders on President Trump
