Southern IL City Likely to Limit MH to Communities

MhproNews has learned from the Register-News in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the Mt Vernon City Council is set to approve a ban on mobile homes outside MHCs. Pre-existing manufactured homes outside designated areas would be grandfathered in, as long as they are not moved, according to city manager Ron Neibert. Zoning class R-M2 as revised would also permit multi-family housing as well as modular housing. He says if it has axles and a title it qualifies as a mobile home. Resident Ann Gaston, who has lived in a manufactured home for 20 years in Mt. Vernon, says if her home is destroyed by a tornado she would not have the resources to construct a stick-built home. Another resident says the ordinance discriminates against poor people.
