Single Women Buying Up the Land

TheGlobeandMail in Toronto says a study by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) last year revealed 20 percent of homebuyers in the U.S. are single women. In Canada more than 15 percent of the homebuyers in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland are women, about the same percentage as couples without children, according to an informal survey by B.C. Real Estate Association. Couples with children comprise 35 percent of the homebuyers, and single men make up about ten percent. MHProNews.com has learned six to eight percent are empty nesters or retirees. Toronto-based financial advisor Chris Horan says women are more patient than men with their investments, and make good equity investors. Sotheby’s International Realty Canada’s president Ross McCredie says, “We are seeing more and more single women buy high-end real estate, including condos and townhomes. In the last month, we’ve seen homes above $2 million purchased by women.”
