Redevelopment of MH Community in North Carolina Approved

Mountain_View_Mobile Home Park__Paul_Kuehnel__york_daily_record_/_sunday_news postedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsThe Hendersonville (North Carolina) City Council approved a special use permit and four variances to redevelop the Whiteside’s Green Acre Mobile Home Park into the Claystone Manufactured Home Park, an age-restricted 55 and older community with 31 home sites, front porches and carports. Whiteside currently has 31 sites but only nine are inhabited and many are vacant.

The variances dealt with road and lot sizes, plus a zoning change from Medium Density Residential to Planned Manufactured Housing.

Developer Cheria Duncan said she gave more than 90 days notice to the residents of their need to move, well over the required 60 days and, she has met with them as well. “We are not throwing these people out; we are not walking away from them and not offering them anything,” Duncan said.

Two residents said most of the tenants are disabled senior citizens living in homes too old to be moved, and asked if they would be compensated, as blueridgenow tells MHProNews.

I know it’s difficult, and it’s really tugged at my heart for these folks, but we’re going to do everything we possibly can to help them to either relocate them or to sell their homes,” Duncan said.

Councilman Jeff Miller said he would follow up on the situation and keep the council updated. ##
