Plant Opens to Produce MODs in Kenya

MHProNews has learned from the-star.co.ke the National Housing Council in Kenya, Africa is opening a new factory to produce modular homes made of Expanded Polystyrene Panels (EPS) that can save 30-50% in construction costs. The panels have galvanized mesh on both sides which are then coated with concrete, resisting heat, moisture, insects and rodents, and is very durable. The goal is to increase the inventory of affordable housing. Factory manager Andrew Saisi says, “The cost of capital tied during the construction period is often significant. The use of the EPS building systems is expected to reduce the time taken in construction and therefore the time over which capital is tied up.”
