Parish Planning Commission hears from Manufactured Housing Commission

Aiming to adopt an new ordinance governing manufactured homes (MH), the Washington Parish Planning Commission in Bogalusa, Louisiana were given a history lesson of the industry by Lenny Kopowski, director of government affairs for the Louisiana Manufactured Housing Commission (LMHC), including required stickers, labels and registrations. The 1994 wind zone standards, established after Hurricane Andrew, prevent any zone 1 built MH from siting in the parish. Ten years ago, HUD compelled Louisiana to create the LMHC to regulate the industry in the state. According to gobogalusa.com, Kopowsksi suggested the parish adopt an aesthetic ordinance as well as an age ordinance, which would require skirting, a vinyl roof and the removal of all running gear. As MHProNews.com has learned, he also emphasized the importance of a licensed installer placing the homes.
