Parish Council Votes to Allow Siting of Manufactured Homes

Residents of Lacombe, Louisiana, across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, filled the St. Tammany Parish Council chamber protesting a zoning change that would allow manufactured housing on a 3.5 acre tract in their neighborhood. The opponents attorney argued there are already manufactured homes (MH) in the Oak Lawn East subdivision, 35 percent of the 98 homes, but they were sited without Zoning Commission approval and in violation of restrictive covenants, according to theneworleansadvocate.com. Owner Michael Fridge had originally sought the zoning change in 2011, MHProNews has learned, but was denied. Although one resident alleged the zoning change would result in more manufactured homes and a threat to property values, the Parish Council voted to uphold the zoning change and allow MH to be sited. ##
