On Location in Alabama, Roy Moore vs. Doug Jones Special Senate Election

BlackSheepSacrificialLambsDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsVoting is already underway.

MHProNews is on location in Alabama this morning, and got some feedback from Alabamans who were watching local televised news about the special election race between Roy Moore and Doug Jones for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by now Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.

A woman in the room told MHProNews that she thought that “they are trying to get rid of all conservatives.”

They are trying to set it up where they can destroy anyone that ever tries to run for office that they want to destroy with [sexual abuse] allegations like these.”

A man seated near her said, “All of this took place over 30 years ago.”  A campaign message by Judge Roy Moore stressed that he had run several campaigns previously, and none of these allegations had ever been raised before.  Some of the claims against him, on closer scrutiny, have been at least partially discredited.

Another man seated with the woman said that he thought that “[Al] Franken and [John] Conyers are just sacrificial lambs, so that Democrats can claim the moral high ground against Republicans.”

Others in the room offered no opinions, so some may have felt differently than those who verbally spoke out in public.

The woman said, “None of this [sexual abuse allegations] mattered when it was a Democrat in the White House [Bill Clinton], it was all okay then.”

Besides local news and weather, the local news channel was packed with election day coverage, which seemed to be somewhat tilted toward Doug Jones, and nearly non-stop TV commercials being run by both campaigns.

Polling is mixed, with some polls tilting toward Roy Moore, but a late Fox News poll tilting toward Doug Jones.  President Trump has come out in favor of Moore, former President Barack Obama has made a robo-calls and other pro-Jones efforts.  Both parties have brought in people like Steve Bannon or Cory Booker to campaign for their respective candidate.

The fact that both Democrats and Republicans are pouring millions and many of their top names into the race speaks of the importance that both sides believe this contest represents. That said, some notably GOP members have come out against Moore.
