Modular Housing to Replace Aging Housing Projects

The RentonReporter tells MHProNews the Renton Housing Authority recently received $2.1 million towards the construction of 18 modular town homes in this city just south of Seattle, Wash. The new Kirkland Townhomes are part of a larger project, the 100-unit Sunset Terrace redevelopment, and include affordable housing, part of a decades-old vision. The Renton Housing Authority has been purchasing land for about 20 years, knowing someday it would have to demolish the 60 year-old Sunset Terrace housing project. Fourteen of the modular homes will be two bedroom units and four will have three bedrooms. Costing about $4 million to develop, the $2.1 million includes a $1.2 million loan from the state Housing Trust Fund and a $950,000 loan from King County. The infrastructure will be completed before the modular units begin arriving in Aug. or Sept. 2013.
