Modular Homes will be moved to different First Nation Site

CBCNews reports from Manitoba, Canada about 40 of the 65 modular homes offered to the Lake St. Martin First Nation will be shipped to the Little Saskatchewan First Nation following the spring flooding of 2011 that displaced members of both communities. Only 13 of the homes at Lake St. Martin are currently occupied because tribal members are miffed the provincial government did not ask for their input on where the houses would be sited or how they were designed. As MHProNews reported here Nov. 23, 2012, the homes were placed at an abandoned radar base in Gypsumville, in central Manitoba, which some said was contaminated with radioactive material. Others noted they were afraid the modular homes would become their permanent residences, and have remained in hotel rooms in Winnipeg. Lake St. Martin Chief Adrian Sinclair says Lake St. Martin people hope to design a new community and submit it to the government in the new year.
