Modular Homes for Dublin Homeless Finally Occupied

dublin_modular_for_homeless__utv_dot_ieUpdating a story MHProNews has covered numerous times, the last being March 3, 2016 about the modular homes for the homeless families in Dublin, Ireland, Dick Brady, the Dublin City Council’s housing manager said even though the timetable was off—the homes were supposed to be ready at Christmas, but were not occupied until late spring– and there have been cost overruns, he still considers the project a success.

The homes are supposed to be temporary accommodations for the 22 families living in Poppintree, the first of 500 planned modulars, until they can be moved to more permanent housing, according to dublininquirer.

Ní Dhálaigh said residents there are content. “The people who have moved into them are ecstatic, they’re absolutely over the moon,” she said. “It’s going to be very hard to get people to move out of there unless we have something better to offer them.”

United Left Councillor Pat Dunne echoes the same sentiment: “We had agreed that the rapid-build programme would be to take people out of emergency accommodation on a temporary basis,” Dunne said, “but if we have invested so much in these particular units, why would somebody want to move from one of them to less developed, inferior accommodation?”

This was to be a short fix and it isn’t,” he says. “We have a moral dilemma.” ##
