Modular Home Offers Life on the Water

house_boat_modular___freshome__creditIn response to the tiny home movement, where the location is nearly as important as the home itself, according to what freshome tells MHProNews, Portuguese engineering firm Friday has developed a floating modular home, Floatwing.

Constructed of eco-friendly materials, there are four structural configurations, and while the width is fixed at 20 feet, the interior can be 33 to 59 feet long. The home can include two outboard motors, either partially or totally powered by solar power from the photovoltaic cells on the roof, which can move the home at 3.5 mph.

When fully charged, the home can remain self-sustaining for up to a week, with enough power for the motors and home appliances. A pellet stove that burns biomass or compressed wood opens the door for year-round living, and retractable floor-to-ceiling windows open on to a deck. ##
