Modular Container Home in High-end Calif. Market

calif__san_diego__modular_container_home__realtor__creditPeople walking through a sleek new design home in San Diego overlooking the Pacific do not realize it is made of recycled shipping containers until they are told, as realtor tells MHProNews. There’s a stigma, a misperception,” listing agent Jonathan Sanders says of the modular construction which his company and another one designed and built.

The green design, 1,920 sq. ft. modular container home has three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a pine exterior stained in four shades, eight-foot doors, oversize windows, a modern kitchen with quartz counter tops and even a backyard. The 384 sq. ft. top deck offers unbelievable views, and because the weather is so mild and rarely rains, that space could easily be added to the size of the home.

At $799,000, and in one of the hottest markets in the nation, the modular home is not in the affordable category, but because of its structure based on containers, “You could ship [the home] to Bali in 10 years if you wanted to move,” Sanders says. “They’re international shipping containers. They go on anything as a standardized shipping method. There are a lot of perks.” He adds the price point is high, but the price per square foot in this market is low. ##
