Minnesota MH Community Closing, Consultant Helping with Relocation

Minnesota__shady_oaks_MHC_closing___sctimes__credit_Dave_SchwarzShady Oaks Mobile Home Park in St. Cloud, Minnesota will close in August, 2016, and Le Sauk Township will enlist the assistance of Wilson Development Services to help with relocation efforts for the residents, according to sctimes.

The state requires communities that are closing to give residents a nine-month notice, which the owners, James and Mary Schwieters, did in December. Additionally, t he township is required to hold a public hearing 60 before the community closes to gauge the adequacy of closure statements and “to give people adequate notice, as well as set up a process to address the situation,” said John Krehbiel, township board chair.

The state has a trust fund for resident relocation costs that residents of all manufactured home communities (MHC) pay into annually. Pending state legislation, the current relocation benefits for residents is $4,000 if they move their home, and $5,000 if the home cannot be moved.

The community of 16 homes is set to close Aug 15, with a public hearing scheduled for June 14. The future of the property is uncertain, as MHProNews has learned..

Tri-County Mobile Home Park in Waite Park, which is closing this summer to make way for a hotel development, has also hired Wilson as a third-party consultant. ##
