MHC Reality Show Prompts MHC Souvenir Shop

Myrtle_Beach_Manor__reality_show__myrtlebeachonline__Steve_JessemoreThe manufactured home community (MHC) that has been the setting for TLC’s Myrtle Manor TV reality show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is in fact Patrick’s Mobile Home Park, according to myrtlebeachonline.

Owner Cecil Patrick currently sells souvenirs relating to the show but has to apply for a “special event” permit every 90 days. While the city allows it because Patrick’s/Myrtle Manor is part of a TV show, Patrick the owner seeks a permanent license that will allow him to continue like any other retail establishment. However, zoning would have to change from residential to commercial.

Intending to continue selling souvenirs despite the 90 re-apply, Patrick said little stores in communities cold be good for the residents. “We’ve got 120 families here,” he said.

City Planner Allison Hardin said she is working on a fix that would allow convenience style stores within communities of ten or more homes, without fundamentally changing residential zones to commercial zones, but there must be MHC management on site to regulate the appearance of the homes, and the store can not be a nuisance to residents.

MHProNews understands the proposal will be presented at a public hearing July 19.

Meanwhile, the plans for a fourth season of Myrtle Manor are on hold, but Patrick plans to continue the store as long as it turns a profit. ##
