pamela_beck_danner__google_imagesMHProNews has learned from Andy Gallagher, executive director of the West Virginia Housing Institute (WVHI), that prominent speakers will grace this year’s WVHI convention, June 22-24, to be held in Roanoke, WV at the Stonewall Resort.

Pamela Beck Danner, the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) administrator for manufactured housing, considered an ally of the MH industry, will address the convention Wednesday morning, June 23. Says Kevin Wilfong, co-president of WVHI: “It has been a long time since HUD filled Danner’s position and we are expecting great things from her. She knows our industry and the problem we face so we see her as an ally.

She will be followed by John Deskins, director, Bureau of Business and Economic Reserach at West Virginia University, who will speak about economic conditions in WV.

Bob Bender, Chief Operating Officer for the Commodore Corporation, will then present an overall view of the manufactured home industry. Commodore has been building homes since 1952 and has operations in Indiana, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

In other news, W.Va.’s Senator Joe Manchin is one of four co-sponsors of the U. S. Senate’s newest attempt to reform the Dodd-Frank Act to ease restriction’s on consumers’ ability to purchase manufactured homes; and W.Va.’s Rep. David McKinley was one of the first House of Representatives members to co-sponsor H. R. 650, the new version of the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing now before the House. Both supported the legislation last year as well. ##
