Manufactured Housing – Easy as 1, 2, 3

March 25th, 2019

ManufacturedHousingEasyAs1-2-3-SolutionProblemFIXmhIndustryTricksSpecialTunicaShowMeeting

1, 2, 3. Protect. Educate. Promote. P.E.P. It’s just that easy.

  • 1) Federal laws are already on the books and are favorable for manufactured home industry independents. Existing laws only have to be enforced.

  • 2) Furthermore, federal laws prohibit the use of fear, restraint of trade, market or financing manipulation, or other actions that limit the free exercise of the marketplace.

  • 3) Arguably there are external and internal industry challenges that are artificially limiting the acceptance, zoning, placement, and financing of more manufactured homes.

Just the Facts.

Ulycesse

Ulycesse told MHProNews that “I want to find a solution to the problem, so I don’t add to the problem, by letting the problem continue to exist.” That’s a concise and simple principle.

There’s an affordable housing crisis, and manufactured homes (MH) are the most proven solution in America.  So why isn’t the MH industry as easy as 1, 2, 3 today? That’s the multibillion dollar question we will be answering in the presence of other industry members, like yourself.

What could the manufactured housing industry achieve if it was made as easy as 1, 2, and 3?  Let’s look at what the world’s richest man’s operation had to say.

If you cut Jeff Bezos’ Amazon Alexa Fund 2018 estimate in half, there would still be a $165 billion annual market potential for affordable factory-built homes. Yet HUD Code manufactured homes only sold some $8 billion at retail in 2018. That means there could be 10- to 20+ times the current sales levels in markets like yours.

Rephrased, essentially most any business tied to the sales of manufactured homes could substantially increase their business, by profitably growing  results.

Who Will Participate in The Fix MH Industry Tricks Meeting on Thursday afternoon, 3.28.2019?

Among those committed to participating this Thursday are:

  • new manufactured home community group – NAMHCO,
  • MHARR representatives/members, and
  • other HUD Code retailers and independent producers that are with a variety of different associations, or are currently with no association.

Modify your plans. Be at Tunica on the afternoon of March 28, 2019 at this historic meeting.

3 Sessions, Each One Aimed At Making Manufactured Housing As Easy As 1, 2, 3

There will be 3 sessions that will run from approximately 12:15 PM until about 4 PM, with short breaks between each session. Refreshments, and snacks will be served to guests and participants. More about the three historic sessions are outlined at the report linked below.  These sessions will be moderated.  There is no cost to attend, but your travel or pre-post-meeting expenses are on you.

Fix MH Industry Trick$ – Special Meeting at Tunica Show

  • Beyond those noted in the report linked above, guests/attendees should anticipate media, public officials, and plain-clothes security at Session 1.

  • Before Session 2 starts, MH industry attendees will quickly discuss and the group will vote on this question. Do MH attendees/participants want public officials and media to attend session 2?  The meeting organizers will honor the vote results of meeting attendees, and that will decide that question.

  • Session 3 is only for independent producers of HUD Code manufactured homes, with MHProNews hosting/facilitating a discussion of common issues of interest to all HUD Code industry producing independents. HUD Code Independent Builders, regardless of MHI, MHARR, or Non-Aligned association membership status are welcomed.

All Independent builders of HUD Code homes are encouraged to have a representative attend all three sessions.

Because of Limited Seating, should we appear to be approaching maximum seating capacity, Independent Producers of HUD Code homes will get seated first. A few slots will be held as well for media, public officials, and attorneys.  Beyond those commitments, Meeting Organizers reserve the exclusive right to admit or deny admission as needed for Sessions 1 and 2, as seating and circumstances require. We are diligently working at getting a venue with more seating. That announcement should be made on Wednesday. Thank you for your understanding, but count on the sessions as outlined on Thursday afternoon after the Tunica Show proper concludes, which was made by agreement with Dennis Hill, of Show Ways Unlimited, so as not to interfere with the Tunica Show and their exhibitors.

Fixing the MH Industry Tricks

After years of problems that current Omaha-Knoxville-Arlington leadership either arguably accepted, supported, failed to cure, and/or caused, the time for something new is obviously needed.  Let those who want to stay in MHI do so.  Let those who want to work with NAMHCO, MHARR or other trade groups do so.  But the time for post-production independent MH firms to address the causes and effect the cures to the growing manufactured home industry crisis is now. Fixing the MH Industry Tricks will arguably be good for the economy and taxpayers.

Independent Post-Production Manufactured Housing (MH) Coalition:

  • Retailers, or so called “street dealers”
  • Communities that sell or plan to sell manufactured homes
  • Lenders and Financial Services Companies
  • Suppliers, Vendors, Installers, Transporters
  • Professional Service Providers – Attorneys, Business Development, All Others that do or don’t produce HUD Code manufactured homes, but are connected to the Manufactured Housing Industry

That organizational discussion and meeting will be this Thursday.  While MHProNews is facilitating this process, and plans to support this effort to establish an independent post-production manufactured home trade group – that new MH trade group will form and elect their own leaders.

  • Concepts are already available to establish bylaws that would avoid the kind of domination by those who apparently dominate MHI, their actions and inactions.

A good post-production trade group should Protect, Educate, and Promote (PEP). It is honestly as easy as 1, 2, 3.   The new trade group will oppose as needed the Omaha-Knoxville-Arlington axis and their allies in order to break out from over 15 years of historically low MH Industry results.  But the new trade association will work with anyone that wants to honesty achive the industry’s potential to grow to 10 or 20 times its current size.

Legacy clearly believes in the future of the business, because they are raising capital to expand their retail base.  The use of this graphic should not be construed to imply that firm’s position on this planned new post-production trade group.

No more whining and hand-wringing.  I want to find a solution to the problem, so I don’t add to the problem, by letting the problem continue to exist.” It’s time for next steps.

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord [i.e. rope] is not easily broken.”
