Manufactured Homes Protected by State Law

The Massachusetts Homestead Act protects homeowners from having their homes sold off to pay unsecured debts such as credit cards and lawsuits, providing they live in the home as their principal residence, according to thevalleydispatch.com. It does not apply to mortgage payments or taxes or liens on the property, but does protect up to $125,000 in equity on the home. The automatic protection applies to manufactured homes just as it does to single-family, condos, multifamily of 2-4 units and co-ops. MHProNews understands if the homeowner passes away the protection continues for the spouse and dependent children. ##
