Large Florida Manufactured Home Community on the Drawing Board

avon_park_fla__manufactured_home__realtor__creditWith unanimous approval from the Avon Park City Council on first reading, one hundred thirty-four acres of groves in Avon Park, Florida may soon become the largest manufactured home subdivision in the city, and one of the largest in Highlands County, as highlandstoday tells MHProNews.

Avon Park City Manager Julian Deleon said “all of the cogs were moving together” in formulating this community that may hold up to 900 manufactured homes. The county is extending the parkway, the city installed utilities, and the property owner is getting his zoning in place for a potential development,” he said.

Owner Robert Crews II of Crews Groves Inc. is seeking to have the zoning amended to further the possibility of an MHC developing. “It’s something we’re looking into. We have no set plans, but there’s potential there,” Crews said Tuesday, a year after the city installed water and sewer service to the area. One week ago Highlands County voted to lengthen Sebring Parkway, which could provide access to the property.

Deleon says the MHC would lower fixed costs and the tax burden on current citizens and businesses. The project, however, must still undergo review by the city as well as the Avon Park Planning and Zoning Board.

He added: “It will be a giant undertaking. I’m envisioning a gradual development of the property rather than adding all of the infrastructure in one shot to develop the property. I do think this project would be good for the city. ##
